Thanks Meowee...
You always have good information to share...
I used to take Avandia for my type 2, did well on it, but one night I couldn't lay on my side or belly without being short of breath (I never get sob)... uncomfortable enough to go to ER... i was in moderate congestive heart failure..., I was 42 !! When they saw Avandia on my list of meds, doc said, "oh its the Avandia"... "we see it all the time"... He was right though, a little lasix overnight in hospital and I was fine... I'm so leary of everything now... Scared enough to change lifestyle, weight and get the heck off of everything.

ak! I take Actos, have for three years. Not a
very big dose though.
And I did have a bad fall on a hardwood floor
a couple of weeks ago and didn't break anything
(teenage boy's floors should be classified as a
dangerous weapon!).

I was taking Actos until the beginning of April and had been for quite a few years. My doctor had been "gently suggesting" that I drop it for a while (well since the first scares about Avandia came out) so I finally did, although a little reluctantly because I'm so afraid of having to go back on insulin. So far the BGL levels are running a little higher than last month, but not too awful as long as I'm careful with my carbs, of course.

It (well both of them) were good for blood sugar control but the side effects seem to be a lot too risky for my tastes; so I'm glad to be off it.

You might want to discuss it with your Doctor again, Frogponder. Are you on any other oral meds? I'm still taking max doses of Glucophage and Metformin.

Metformin, Starlix and Actos.
I'd love to be off all meds and that's *one* of my
reasons for weight loss.
otoh, I know about not wanting change when my
ins. co tried to switch me to a generic I was on the
phone and not happy until they switched me back.

It is possible . . . I've lost 60 pounds (another 60 to go mind you) and that allowed me to cut all my meds by about 1/3 or 1/2 and totally get off insulin last October. Now that the Actos is gone, too, I've had to go back to max on the other two . . . I do not want to go back on insulin if I can avoid it.
