Just when we start to think that we are finally heading in the right direction -- and we are, we are -- along comes an article like this one . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/public...betes_20080402

Gah! I guess it proves the importance of being healthy while at the same time losing weight. Exercising & eating right has a place in everyone's life...

The term 'skinny fat' has described the set of people who are a normal weight but with a high body fat. I don't ever think I've seen information though on the effects of being 'skinny fat'. That is one reason it is important to exercise, build muscle, stay active, etc, etc. It also proves that the scale is a poor measure of health but it is difficult to get accurate body fat percentages to really see where we are at.

Hm, I don't find this to be troublesome! This is stuff we already know, after all -- the scale as a faulty measure of health.

Constantly amazes me how something I've been thinking about pops up on 3FC

We were at a river resort last weekend which meant people were minimally dressed. I was noticing how many people just looked out of shape - even the "sknny" ones and both men and women. I saw girls who couldn't have been more than a size 6 but looked "soft" and kind of wobbly. I had thought it was just my new perspective since I've been so focused on getting myself in better shape but I guess the perspective is not just mine.

Just goes to show you that the folks at 3FC are very, very smart - exercise and the right kind of food is every bit as important to your health as what size you are. You might be a size 14 and still be "in better shape" than someone who's a 4.

I think 3FC has a ton of fat-skinny people (or whatever the opposite of skinny-fat is!) too...people who are heavier, but who are really healthy in habits and in body. The scale is definitely not the end-all-be-all (see signature!)

This isn't surprising at all. I see many people who look like normal weight, but are very soft or flabby looking. Like the heaviest weight they pick up is the remote LOL!

These same people will also diet endlessly (when it isn't necessary) instead of exercising and strength training.

I would definately qualify my high school self as "skinny-fat". I weighed 125 lbs, but I was ridiculously out of shape compared to my current overweight self!
