Default CrossFit?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone around here is doing CrossFit training. There is a new facility in part of the world. Before I gained all of my weight, I was heavy into lifting free weights. When I saw an advertisement for this facility, I became quite interested. However, I want to get y'all's expert opinion on it.

Any advice/suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

From what I've heard of and experienced of it online - I like it. I have a friend who has transformed her body into a very strong and lean body at a Crossfit gym. She lives in the Bay area. She fills me in on great WOD's and other things she learns. I belong to 24HourFitness, but I often look up the WOD online and do/attempt (usually a modified version!) it. I also loosely follow their version of The Zone Diet. The have it in a very simple, easy format. I'm considering looking at an affiliate here locally. I want to lose more weight first though.

Thanks, Nori, for the quick response. I am looking forward to getting started. I hope I can keep up in the beginning and don't make a complete fool of my self. Hopefully, I can catch up pretty quickly. The exercises look like "fun", if exercises can be classified as "fun". *lol* I don't think I will get bored, like with just plain weightlifting.

How have your responded to the WODs? Do you enjoy them? Do they keep you interested? Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks!

They are HARD. There are many I simply cannot do. I wear a HRM and my HR gets way up there.

One of my favs so far is Cindy:
  • 5 Pull-ups
  • 10 Push-ups
  • 15 Squats
As many rounds as possible in 20 min. (I have to modify this since I cannot do true pull ups and push ups. I use the Gravitron and do modified push ups. I can do a few honest push ups, but not 10 over and over and over again!)

I'm going to try Angie soon:
  • 100 Pull-ups
  • 100 Push-ups
  • 100 Sit-ups
  • 100 Squats
For Time - Complete all reps of each exercise before moving to the next. (I have an idea of how long it'll take me to just do the 100 pull ups on the Gravitron!)

I love their youtube clips and get a lot of training ideas on them.

I tried the WOD today:
Run 1/2 mile
50 back extensions
50 sit-ups

I did sets of 25 on the first 2 rounds, then went for 50s on round 3. I was going by the "michael" demo video, and did GH sit-ups on the swiss ball, which apparently wasn't necessary...they were supposed to be regular sit-ups. By the end of round 3, I thought I was gonna puke, but I finished. Wonder if I'll be able to move tomorrow...lol!

Oy! That WO kicked my...abs! All the crunches I've done, even weighted ones, cannot compare to the torture of those GH sit-ups! 2nd day out, and I'm still sore. I took yesterday off, because every time I tried to start my lifting working, it just was too tender. Crossfit is evil!
