Hi Everybody:

I have attended 3 OA meetings and I feel sorta bad that I haven't really attempted to get a sponsor. The meetings have only 3 other members (1 who is eligible to sponsor). What is the role of a sponsor? I know that the one sponsor has given up all sugar and flour, but I don't feel those are my triggers. Should I try to find a sponsor who is more like me, by going to other meetings?

I am so grateful to OA for helping me to face my problems squarely and to know I'm not alone.

Hey there-

That's great that you've been going to meetings. Nope, a sponsor doesn't need to be just like you. Everyone's trigger foods are different. Everyone's abstinence is different. A sponsor is someone who has walked before you, worked more steps than you, been abstinent longer than you, and can share what they've learned.
