Default Reintroduction

Hello everyone! End of an old year and I'm ready for a new me. The last time I was at this whole-heartedly I lost 40 pounds. I've gained 39 since then (a year ago+, maybe?). I could put the blame on health issues but ultimately I'm responsible for everything that has gone into my mouth. It was easier to blame the hypothyroid for the weight gain and eat what I wanted. Later, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and I could say "I'm seeing what I can and can not eat" but none of it was true. I just didn't want to discipline myself and I'm now taking that long look in the mirror and admitting it.

Calorie counting works. People suggest all types of plans but as the old adage goes...if it ain't broke don't fix it.

The first thing to mark off the new year's check list is getting back into the habit of journaling everything I eat. I've put a restriction of 2000 calories on myself for starters (I will lower it gradually over the next few weeks) but I'm more concerned with putting everything I eat into the fitday and actually getting that "real" calorie number to stare me in the face everyday for a week. Nothing like reality-checks to open your eyes.

And lastly, I know I need a place like this to come to for ideas and motivation. My family support is awesome but being the only one in the house formally counting (they'll informally be counting through my cooking) it's good to have a bit of me-time too.

Ready. Set. Go-away pounds!

HI Carrie and Welcome

I agree with you - calorie counting is a tried and true method.

Glad you are here.

HI CARRIE

I too am going back to the tried-and-true. Like you, it's all about really knowing what I am eating. I put cream in my coffee today and when I calculated my FitDay I almost fell of my chair! I guess I just zoned out how many calories are in a tiny teaspoon of that yummy white stuff. Having that "real" calorie number stare me in the face was a true wake up call. This is going to be the best thing we ever did for ourselves. Good luck!!
