Default Muffins - substituting applesauce for yogurt? Yes/No?

I have a delicious muffin recipe for BLUEBERRY BRAN MUFFINS (link below)

1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 cup oat bran
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup vanilla or lemon nonfat yogurt
2 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

I absolutely love them. I've used strawberry yogurt as a different flavour, and I use flax seeds instead of eggs.

I'd like to try using applesauce instead of yogurt to eliminate the dairy (I've used soy yogurt and I didn't like the taste as much). Has anyone done the applesauce - yogurt switch in baking? If so, has it worked out?

Thanks! And if you like muffins, these are absolutely YUMMY and so easy to make! I bet they're amazing with strawberries and other berries too!
