Default Thanks for the advice

Thanks for your advice, I think I was going through a bit of a freak-out. I am feeling better now. I got some books from the library and have been reading for about a week now and with a BMI of at least 53.5 (my scale doesn't read above 330lbs, so I have no idea what I actually weigh, other than more than 330lbs and I weighed 438lbs at a doctors office in April), I decided to work on exercising and eliminating items from my diet (i.e. soda) that I really don't need to be eating. I am VERY lucky that I am in good health and can still get around well. My daughters have encouraged me to start walking, so hopefully we can get out today (It's raining here pretty good right now).
Did anyone start to "diet" before the surgery? I have ALOT of weight to lose and I would like to put myself in the best possible position of losing it. For those who went through it, what did you do before the surgery? My first meeting is in a week and a half, August 8.
Thanks,
Michelle

Instead of worrying about food I am focusing on:
1. Having lots of energy for husband, children, and work
2. Having more comfortable love with husband
3. Shopping at Old Navy with my girls

Michelle, I went on a liquid diet for about twenty days. All liquids during the day and a very, very sensible dinner at night. I understand that's it is to get the fat away from the liver to make the operation easier. I lost about eight pounds and no one fussed at me.

Michelle - we're ALWAYS glad to help. the REAL answer to your question will come at your doc appt. that's the person who'll provide you with the right guidance. we all share our experiences and that's based largely on what our docs have told us. please remember that docs differ on many things, so whatever you learn here, you need to discuss with your doc.

NOW - here's the deal. if the doc says that you have to lose a lot of weight quickly, there's really nothing wrong with one of the liquid fasts. REMEMBER - you'll be doing this for a short time, and the goal with the fast is to lose weight quickly NOT to keep it off. and when done under a doc's supervision, it's not the worst thing in the world.

having said all that, that's not what i did before surgery! and many other people DID NOT RESORT to liquid fasts and were just fine.

it's a matter of what you and your doc decide is right FOR YOU!
