Default 0 point drinks...

hey yall... I drink diet coke... A LOT! I really love it and it's kinda like my "vice" haha I've been drinking a lot of water along with it though because I know it's important.

my question is even though diet coke is 0 points if I drink enough of it a day would you add a point or so for good measure? Or can I have as much as I want all at 0 points?

I would say that as long as your getting in enough regular, plain water, then the diet coke counts as zero points. It can be dehydrating because of the caffeine, and some people find that diet drinks hurt their weight loss. However, lots of people drink tons of diet drinks and have no problems. You just have to make sure that your supply your body with the water that it needs. If it doesn't effect your weight loss, and it's something that you like, then enjoy your diet coke.

I agree. I am just like you, I drink diet coke all day along with water. I never count any points for it and I haven't noticed any difference w/ my weight loss. It's funny, the summer I switched to diet sodas (this was before WW) I lost 10 pounds in 2.5 months. It makes such a huge difference, and now the thought of regular soda makes me sick!

Caffeinated beverages do have a slight diuretic effect, but it isn't dehydrating. As my mother's kidney specialist pointed out, many people
only drink caffeinated beverages, and if the coffee myths were true, they would die of dehydration - they don't. It's more realistic to say that 12 oz of diet coke, might be equivalent to a lesser amount of pure water, say 10 oz. How close the equivalency would depend on how often you drink caffeinated beverages, as research has shown that the more regularly you drink them, the less the diuretic effect. That you need to compensate for diet coke, teas, coffees... with additional amounts of water is a myth.

My weakness is diet Mountain Dew Code Red. I gave up all caffeinated beverages and artificial sweeteners for a year (because many people told me they might be causing or contributing to my fibromyalgia symptoms). I learned that they did neither, and when I was still having a lot of fatigue and mental "fog" (a major symptom of fibromyalgia besides joint pain), my doctor recommended that I add caffeine back in before considering a prescription medication like Provigil (which I also sometimes have to take, but because of judicious use of caffein, I only have to take about one day in about every two months)

I do drink several caffeinated beverages most days, and usually it's diet soda or diet Crystal Light mixed with tea (I make strong tea and mix it half and half with Crystal Light or other diet drink mix).

I do notice that I will eat more of a salty food if I eat it with diet sodas, so now I usually only drink diet sodas by themselves and drink plain water with meals and snacks.

Also regarding calories, anything that contains less than 5 calories per serving can call itself calorie free. Since there's no fat or fiber in soda, you would have to drink more than 10 sodas to even theoretically approach 1 point, so unless you drink an outrageous amount of diet Coke, you shouldn't have to count it.

I am another one who loves diet coke. I have diet coke and work and at home. Before ww if a diet said i couldn't have soda I knew I was going to fail. There are a few things I am not willing to give up and diet coke is one of them.

I'm a coke zero addict myself! The only diet coke product that I didn't like was the one with the added vitamins & mineral (DC plus?) It tasted slimy and left an aftertaste.

I used to be addicted to Diet Coke/Caffeine Free Diet Coke but I've cut it out. I cut it out a while ago and every now and then I would have some but now that I'm back on WW I'm only drinking water (instead of pop). My mum is doing this with me and is completely addicted to pop and doesn't want to give it up. I'm trying to convince her to at least drink more water, because she can easily drink 8-10 cans of pop a day.
