I know how many calories you need to eat to lose weight, but what about fat grams? A long time ago, I was eating low fat and keeping it at 10 grams per day, but I just don't think I can go that low right now. How many can you have and still lose weight fairly quickly/
With my diet, I don't worry about fat grams too much (anti-candida diet) but I believe, from regular dieting years ago, that it was around 20 grams per day to lose. Don't want to deprive yourself too much because you need the nutrients.
I am sure there are tons of information on this. I usually eat between 15-25 grams of fat, I don't eat poultry or red meat, but do eat healthy fats: avocado, nuts, . Today I ate 17 grams of fat so far, and will probably have another 6 with dinner. I am loosing weight as you can see by the ticker.
We need some fat in our diet, just not too much, but I can't give you exact numbers. sorry.

My understanding is that healthy fats should make up 20 - 30% of your total calorie intake. One gram of fat is approx 9 calories, so if you're trying to stick to about 1600 calories, you should be eating between 36 and 53 grams of fat depending on what percentage you want to use. Personally, I like to stick to below 50 grams total per day if I can.
We do need a certain amount of fat in our diet, so don't cut it out completely...
nicolen is right. You should not restrict fat grams too much! 20-30% of total calories is the recommendation. The guidelines also generally recommend keeping saturated fats (from foods like red meat and butter) low.
10 or 20 grams of fat sounds VERY low, even for low calorie diets (1200 calories)
10 grams of fat per day? Wow that is pretty low. Fats are essential for our bodies so I would agree with the 20-30% of fat per day advice. My fat grams are usually somewhere about 20% of my total calorie intake for the day.
I followed an extremely low fat diet in college. I lost weight, but I skipped a period (the only time in my life) and my hair fell out by the handful in the shower. I was also ravenous and bingy. I couldn't maintain a low fat diet, so eventually started eating "normally" and regained all the weight I lost and more.
Like the others I'm trying to keep it at about 30% a day. Somedays I go over because I have been eating walnuts, olive oil, and too much half-n-half in my coffee at Starbucks. I do know that two of those are good for me and the half and half is something I'm working on.
I agree with the others - 10% is too low! When I first started I watched my fat intake, but I found that as long as I was eating foods with healthy fats (chicken, nuts, olive oil, etc.) that I always seems to be right around the 25% mark so now I don't really even track it.
I'm also right around the 25% mark on most days. As long as your fat intake is reasonable (not over 30% or so), I think it's really more about total calories consumed than fat grams. If you're consuming 10g of fat per day but are eating 2000 calories worth of carbs, you're going to gain weight.
