Default Soup

I loveee soup. I eat it year round, even in the summer. At school the soup they had was actually really good (it was the only thing I would eat from the cafeteria). Now I have come home and I can't find a good canned soup that I like! I would make my own soup but its always such a hastle and takes too much time. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good canned soups, that are low in sodium and calories. The thing I find about most canned soups is they lack the home made taste. They taste like they have been sitting in a can (which they have, ha ha). Thanks in advance

Amy's soups are good and come in a few low-sodium versions.

They still taste like canned soups though, because they are!

I don't eat canned soup usually though. I just wash and chop many veggies and throw in some red lentils, water, spices and put it in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes or add a can of beans or chickpeas later. I am then left with a HUGE pot of healthy, no oil added, delicious soup!

Is there a crockpot in the house? Why not chop up whatever you like in your soup, add seasonings, beans, etc. and just let it cook all day? A crockpot won't heat the house up in summer either. I like to make large batches of soup and then freeze them in smaller portions for when I really don't have time to cook.

I agree with Soulbliss, Amy's soups are good, but they still don't match the taste of homemade. Plus, it's much easier to control the sodium in homemade soups.

I recently discovered this soup at the grocery store and yesterday I had some little zucchinis leftover from the CSA box from last week. I sauteed the veggies for all of 30 seconds and threw it in the soup with some sesame seasoning. It was amazing. I'm having it again when I get home tonight.

I find that soups in a box taste MUCH better than canned soup (although Amy's cream of mushroom is anohter favorite of mine).

^^I second the crock pot and the boxed soup suggestions.

The "Imagine" brand of boxed soups is great and if you use them as your base, all you need to do is throw in frozen or fresh veggies and beans and or rice/grains you have a hearty meal in minutes! The tomato soups are especially good with quinoa!

I completely forgot about the Imagine brand "box" soups! Those are great! I love the butternut squash one!

ohhh thanks for all the great advice! I have a can of amy's sitting in the cabinet that I really have to try. I dont have a slow cooker, I really want one though. All of the crock pot recipes I see online look sooo good! But yeah I'll try that boxed soup idea, sounds good! I love corn soup hehe.
