"Take a bob for Mr. Howard". Brianna, the woman in my book, was being forced to meet Mr. Howard. Stephen, her captor, was pushing her towards Mr. Howard.
It sounds to me like, in this instance, as if the 'bob' referred to would be the sort of half curtsey that a housemaid would make to her employers. (Sort of like a little bend of the knee - intended to show respect.)
I can't think what else it might be - another 'bob' is a hairstyle and yet another 'bob' is a slang word for an old fashioned unit of currency.
