Question The Scale Is Not Moving But the Inches are!

Hey there guys,

Hhmph - I'm in a mood (lol)... not that thats anything new. You see I just have this question that just BURNS in my mind and I'm asking here. You see I've rested on 195 pounds at the moment... and the scales haven't really budged for two weeks or so. What is wierd is that I'm losing inches but I'm confused - you see I thought you lost inches when you do exercise. I'm really not doing much (revision for exams) so I'm not quite understanding. I've lost 1.5" from my waist... and 1.5" from my hips... and an Inch from my upper thigh. It's wierd though - I just thought i'de see more movement from the scales losing 4 inches from my body... what do you guys think? Is it normal?

Absolutely. Everyone is different, so some people will lose inches and pounds together, some will lose pounds before the inches move, and some - like you - will lose inches before the pounds catch up. But they will! Keep at it

Well, that's an interesting question. No one knows what's "normal" for you. Those inches aren't a really big difference, so I'd just note them and continue following your plan. Think of them as a bonus!

What is your plan, by the way? Calorie counting? WW points? Or some other plan?

Let us know if the measurements change again, and if the weight changes.

Hey jayell...
no the measurements haven't changed much but I've lost a pound it seem!! So yay... 194. I did some research and found that an inch around your waist is about 7 pounds... not sure if its accurate but it would explain why I've lost an inch and a half from my waist and other places.

I wnet through the same thing the last couple of weeks. I was staying at 191 and began to get upset, but when they did my measurements again I had lost 11.5 in. I was very motivated after that and this week my number dropped to 187. So, do not become discouraged, everyone lose differently. Try not to think about the numbers on the scale, instead look at how your clothes are fitting.

Wooow what an achievement stevesprincess!! Well done!
Are you exercising!! Yeah it's hard not to get discouraged though especially because its just SO tedious. To be honest I just want to know the biology behind losing inches before pounds... It doesnt seem to make sense to me. The only theory I can come up with is that when the fat cells deposit the fat into the blood (to be used as energy) its still running around my blood and has not yet been used up for energy? Because then the fat cells have shrunk therefore losing the inches but because the body hasn't used whats deposited you still weight the same?
Lol I'm obviously not a micro-biologist... I'll just move back to reading Richard the 2nd... lol.

Seranab,
Yes I am working out, I workout for about 1.5 to 2 hr/day, but that is because my hubby is deployed and the gym keeps me busy while my kids are at school. Are you working out? If you are, you have to remember that muscle weighs more then fat. So, you may be building muscle and burning fat and that is why you are losing more inches vs weight right now. That was a very hard thing for me to understand because I wanted to see the numbers dropping also. So, just keep up the good work and try not to thing about the numbers too much.
