How long did 100 lbs. take you?
(This may have been posted before, but I searched and couldn't find a thread)
I am curious to find out how long it took those who have lost 100 lbs to do so? Or, if you are getting close to your goal, how long do you feel you have left? (How much time would that be in all?) I realize there are ups and downs and that different people's bodies vary greatly, but I would like to know what you feel is realistic for you. I really don't know what to expect. I am not putting any date-related expectations on goals exactly, in part because I just started, but how has it gone for you?

Well, LAST time I did it, it took me a year of fat and calorie watching, along with DAILY intense workouts. (I gained it back, slowly, and then some! ).

Well, I'm not quite at 100 pounds, but I'm only 2 pounds away, so I'll tell you my experience. I started this journey at the end of last September, so it's been about 8 months to get here (and I'm not done yet). That works out to just short of 3 pounds a week on average, but there's no doubt that it came off faster in the earlier months than it is now. That's ok, it's still coming off, and the trend is what matters. I never set a date deadline for the "big" goals (like hitting 100 pounds, which is right around the corner ), but I have for smaller steps along the way.

I started on April 19, 2006 and have been calorie-counting and exercising (almost daily) since then.
I crossed the "100 lbs lost" mark on 2/21/07. So...it took me 10 months to lose 100 lbs. in the two months since, though, I've only lost 10...so the rate has been cut in half. Ah well - has to slow down sometime.

I started on June 1, 2001 and lost the first 100 by February 17, 2002 (funny how we remember!). So it was nine months and 17 days.
It's definitely faster in the beginning and slows down ... my first 50 only took 16 weeks.

I've lost 91 pounds, so I can only estimate how long the 100 will take me, but I believe it will end up being 11 months. I started on July 17 of last year and unless something horrible happens, the other 9 pounds will be gone by the middle of June. I've lost 1-2 pounds most weeks, with more the first week (of course) and a couple of slow periods when I went out of town and had a bit of a stall (because of eating too much, not because of a plateau).

I started my journey on September 4, 2006. 25 weeks to the day later on February 26, 2007 I was 100 pounds lighter.
In the next 11 weeks, which brings us to now, I've lost another 32. So yes, it's slowed down for me as well.

Rockin Robin if that is slow I wish I was you.
I started this journey in 2002. I have stopped and gained back along the way and I'm still not there. My point is this don't worry how long it takes. I know I will get there someday and that is all that is important to me. I didn't always feel that way but what matters is I know in my mind this time is the last.

It took me 11 months to lose the first 100 lbs. It has taken nine more months to lose the next 50 lbs. My rate of loss right now is just slightly over 1 lb a week, so my "goal" is to be at goal on 9/1/07, which would make the total length of time about 2 years for 175 lbs.

It has taken me a year to lose the 33lbs!! So im a slow coach compared to most, BUT i feel this time the weight will stay off for me. I am a classic yo yo dieter. I say do it in your own time, sometimes you might get impatient ( i know i do!!) but the slower it comes off the more likely it is to stay off!! I have been losing on average 3 lbs a month, which isnt much, but its means i dont feel like im missing out on my social life or feel like im denying myself things.

It really depends on a lot of things... I lost 75 lbs in 3 months and then I stopped losing for well over a year. When I started again, it took me about 2 months to get the 100 lb mark.
I'm the kind of person though that I get motivated and lose weight, then I'll stop for a while and maintain, then lose weight again, then stop and maintain. Right now, I'm trying to get to under 200 before I stop again

I'm sorry, but I beg to differ with you. Of course we are all entitled to our own opinions. I am of the opinion that the rate of speed with which your weight comes off has absolutely, positively ZERO affect on how long it will stay off. IMO the weight comes back on only if you have not learned new habits. If when you do hit your goal weight that you go back to your old ways. The ways that made you gain all the weight in the first place. If you've lost your weight by incorporating healthy habits and then of course remain doing those healthy habits forever and ever, then there is no reason at all for the weight to come back on. Regardless of the time that it took to get it off.
I don't feel like I'm missing out on a social life or denying myself either. Not even a little bit. I feel that I've made healthy changes and can socialize without overeating and don't feel as if passing up on caloric foods is denying myself. I look at it as treating myself well. Habits I plan to use for a lifetime, therefore helping me to keep the weight off.
Bottomline is - we've all got to find out what works for ourselves. There is no one across the board right way to lose weight.

I would have to agree with Robin I've been losing and maintaining my weight loss for nearly 3 years (anniversary in a few days). When I do lose, I do tend to lose fast but then I stop and maintain. It would've been nice to just constantly lose but I'll take what I can get.
It has really been a change of lifestyle that got me to lose weight and also to be able to maintain the weight I did lose. I don't feel I am denying myself anything. I travel, I go out to eat, I do whatever I want but I am better at controlling my food now more than ever. I exercise every day now and I feel really good about that.
