Default Let's talk PEDOMETORS

Okay so I probably spelled it wrong. I've been outside all day with the kids in the sprinkler and listening to Blues Clues music. I'm hot and tired.
Anyway........I heard someone talking about a Pedometer and how you should strive for 7000 steps per day.
Does anyone have any info on Pedometors. I'm realizing with no longer being cooped up in the cold, I'm out at the parks with my toddlers and running around on my feet almost all day, I need to put my pedometer on and see how I'm doing. Is there a chart or something that explains how many steps you should be taking if you are working toward a certain goal??
Thanks!

I have the Omron pedometer (about $18 at Walmart) I love it. You program your hieght, weight, stride, etc. into it. It tells you how many steps you take and how many aerobic steps you have taken too. If this one broke, I would go out and get another one just like it the same day.

So what is your goal per day? So many steps, or miles?

I love my pedometer. I wear it every day. My goal is 12,000-15,000 steps a day. I have a very active job now and 10,000 is easy to make. I've never heard of 7,000 used as a goal marker... only 10,000. Here are a few sites that talk about steps.

^-^ Just wearing a pedometer makes me want to move. It feels like a competition to me.

I love me Omron pedometer and wear it every day. You need a minimum of 10,000 steps a day to be healthy - shouldn't be hard with kids. Be sure to invest in a good pedometer. The cheap ones are not accurate.

Yep - 10,000 is the base level. I try for 12,000 now.

I don't think doing 10,000 will make anyone healthy per se...but 10,000 is a good goal to have if you find that you don't walk that much. At school I average about 3,000-4,000 depending on how much I'm walking around. By the time I'm home I've done about a mile. It takes a little over 2 miles to do 10,000 steps. 10,000 steps is hard to reach if you're not going out and doing some extra walking. But 10,000 is a good goal to have, and once you reach it, you can try to do 10,000 steps a day on average. And then you just compete with yourself.

You see...it all depends on how busy your day is. I didn't exercise everyday this week.

3998, 11741, 4755, 5613, 10489, 5295 have been my numbers so far this week. And this is just steps in general. The higher days are the days I went out for a walk. The 3,000-4,000 day is where I didn't do much walking.

You should set a number goal for yourself. For me, I suppose my goal would be to do 8,000 everyday, or even 10,000. I just try to do one mile a day aerobically. I don't worry so much about the steps.
