That is a very basic way. There is also a more acurate way. Take the calories and divide it by 50 to start. Then add the number of grams of fat divided by 12. Then subtract the number of grams of fibre (4 is the maximum numbre of grams that counts so even if there is 6 grams of fibre you only use 4 in calculations) divided by 5.
For example an honey nut all bran bar has 130 calories 5 grams of fat and 4 grams of fibre. So to calculate points:
130 divided by 50=2.6
5 divided by 12=0.5
4 divided by 5=0.8
2.6+0.5-0.8= 2.3 points. Rounded up to 2.5
