Default The wonderful world of beans..........

OK, I haven't really eaten a ton of beans on my plan, black eyed peas and green beans yes, beans, not as much.

Yesterday I had red beans and rice for lunch. I think I could have probably skipped dinner it was sooo filling! Today I had low-salt minestrone soup for lunch with a grilled cheese s/w made w/ ww bread and one slice of 2% cheese, no oil or butter at all. I'm stuffed and not hungry for the dinner that's going to be ready in a few minutes. And the scale is going down.

So should I lower my portions? Or is it unique to "beans" and their gas that I feel bloated and full? I know they're healthy, but I also remember the old adage about poor farmers filling up (and out) on beans cuz they were cheap.

Do you feel good? Are you losing? Keep some non-plant protein in there too, as long as you don't have other objections, but I don't see a problem. I count them as a carb. Turkey breast chili with black beans and chick peas is one of my favorite meals.

I eat beans every day, sometimes twice per day. I love beans. My favorite is black beans with cheese (sigh) but I haven't had that in a long time.

I, too, LOVE beans. They are VERY filling because of all the fiber, which is SO good for your digestion (insoluble fiber) and for your heart (soluble fiber). You definitely will not gain weight when you eat beans as long as you don't overeat! A serving of the kind of beans we are talking about (black, kidney, white, pinto, cannelloni, navy, lentil, garbanzo, etc) is a half cup and this has anywhere from 90-140 calories (and about 8 grams of fiber!) depending on the bean. So enjoy! Your body will be hungry again eventually; fiber makes you feel fuller longer, but eventually your body still reminds you it needs more fuel.

I must be a freak. . .

I, too, LOVE beans. . .but I have to steer clear of them b/c I can EASILY sit down and eat three cups of beans for supper. And even then I stop not because I WANT to but because I know that 3 cups of beans is easily 800 calories, so I HAVE to.

Maybe my full-o-meter is off. . .

Me too Su. I took a bowl size (like that comes in a dish set) and went back for more, bc it was sooooo good. It's also my body craving good food instead of the crap it's used to getting for me. So I went back and had a second bowl. Definitely a full one cup serving if not 1.25 or so. But if it's good, and like Mel said, I feel good and am losing weight, I should enjoy the treat I guess! The scale was down again this morning after my mighty minestrone yesterday, so I'll just shut up and say, PASS THE BEANS PLEASE!

I love beans too... My fav new concoction are a can of chickpeas, a can of tuna, drizzle with olive oil, the juice of half a lemon, salt and pepper to taste... Delish ... Eventually the bloated feeling goes away... I have to measure my beans too because I will over it them...

Beans beans good for your heart, the more you eat, the more you *art! I remember that silly rhyme from elementary school. I'm not a major fan of beans, except black beans, chili beans and green beans. I love mixing green beans, chili beans and chick peas with low fat ground turkey meat and taco seasoning. It's a healthy kind of taco salad that fills me up good and satisfies my craving for different textures in my food.
