Question about words that are starred
Hey all, I have a weird question. What words aren't allowed? I understand that profanity isn't allowed for good reason and are starred as such, but I am asking because I used a word that wasn't profanity and when I went to post, I noticed that it was starred. Is there any way to get a list of non-profane words that are not allowed so they can be avoided (I hate having the stars in my posts so I make an effort to find synonyms). Thanks!

Some words that are perfectly fine can have a double meaning, maybe a slang meaning and they will be picked up as profane.

Now my wandering brain is totally going to spend the rest of the afternoon trying to figure out what it was....

Apparently if you "preview" your post, you'll see what is starred and you can try again.

Were you typing $hitake noodles or pu$$ywillows? Those are two that shock the censor aside from the usual profanities.
|
We also censor brands/companies/websites that spam us. It eliminates repeat offenders :)

Thanks for the replies! I guess I'll just have to use preview or edit. Although I do think it's kind of funny that ****take is edited, especially because I love those kinds of mushrooms ;-)

Banditbear - it's only censored if you spell it incorrectly. The correct spelling is shiitake, and the extra I makes all the difference.

One time I was making a post in answer to a question about what foodstuffs were proper for Passover, and the site censored the last four letters of the word "A-s-h-k-e-n-a-z-i" (so I went back and had to say something like "whatever subset of Judaism they are"). There's a name for this; it's called the "S-c-u-n-t-h-o-r-p-e problem" after a town in England that often gets caught in filters because of a certain string of letters
