Awakenings makes me cry. My favourite movie is "In the Name of the Father" about the Guildford Four, four innocent Irish people who were imprisoned for blowing up a pub in Guildford, Surrey. Quite a good time to watch the movie as yesterday Tony Blair, English Prime Minister made an official apology to them.

I'm going to have a treat afternoon on Sunday, going to see Magic Roundabout and have Sushi at my favourite Sushi Bar, my reward for sticking with my eating plan and upping up my exercise.

Hi All -

I'll have to check out Napoleon Dynamite, since it's garnered such wonderful reviews from you all!

DH and I watched Citizen Kane for the first time over the weekend, and it was really excellent. The story was absorbing and interesting, and the acting was wonderful for its time - more stylized than what you would see today, I think. And hey, young skinny Orson Welles is a handsome hunk-a fellow!

We're checking out Y Tu Mama Tambien tonight, heard it was really good, too.

Ciao!

Has anyone seen "Pay it Forward"?

Just thinking of checking it out and wanted some opinions....

We own the special DVD edition of Citizen Kane - terrific film.....Rosebud....

Kykaree-"In the Name of the Father" is a fantastic film. Can't believe it took the British government this long to apologize! I guess most governments are like that though...the US sure should be issuing some (long overdue) apologies.

Maybe I just didn't give it enough of a chance but I had to turn off Napoleon Dynamite before I ceased to live. I thought it was horrifying. Although I laughed my butt off when the kids uncle threw a steak and it hit him in the face and knocked off his glasses. That was awesome.

We watched Shaun of the Dead and I would definately recommend it. I laughed quite a bit, and the DVD version has quite a bit of fun extras. If you need a laugh, and can stand a bit of humorus gore - watch it.

So, Y Tu Mama Tambein was really great! Lots of sex and frontal nudity, but hey, that's not alawys a bad thing. Great characters, interesting interactions, unusual directing choices.

And just reading this post must have cast some magic, since I've been invited to see Napoleon Dynamite at a friend's house tomorrow night. Looking forward to it!

And Kino's Journey is coming from Netflix for tomorrow. Yahoo!

Ciao!

The Notebook

We loved Napoleon Dynamite. Rent The Notebook. It's a tear jerker (towards the end), but an excellent movie!

DD and I watched Raising Helen last night. It was a cute chick flick. :D

Watched a foreign movie called "The Eye" and it was okay. Probably would have been better if the sub-titling was better. I don't know what it is but lately all the foreign movies we've seen have had the worst sub-titles ever. It's really frustrating, because I know the people can't be saying what it says, and I especially cannot tolerate errors in spelling and grammar. Annoying.

mauvaisroux 02-15-2005 07:38 AM

The Eye is an Asian film and I find that the subtitles in Asian films is not very well translated and as you said, lots of spelling mistakes and grammar. If you watch enough of them you get used to it and are able to ignore it

Just watched Kill Bill. Weird.

solarmama 02-15-2005 04:55 PM

I just can't watch Quentin Tarrantino movies. I think he glorifies violence in a way that nauseates me. See my rant on 'Seven' back a few weeks. :D

Kino's Journey was as good as it was billed on this thread, thanks Liz! I'll be getting the second disc in a week or so from NEtflix.

Napoleon Dynamite was absolutely hilarious! Turns out the local radio station was using that character in its advertising, and I didn't get it until I saw the movie. The DH says all his students at school are talking like Napoleon, too - SWEET!

Ciao, Chickies!

Kill Bill should have been called Swish - Thunk. That is all I heard through the whole movie. I didn't watch part 2 - I heard it is less violent, so maybe I will.

mauvaisroux 02-16-2005 01:24 PM

Reservoir Dogs was great, Pulp Fiction was great but I didn't really care for Kill Bill 1 or 2 - they were okay but not great....did I tell I met David Carradine? :D

Went to see Hitch on Sunday night. Funny movie!
Looking for a feel good, care-free movie, that is it!
