T.V. Shows Talk!!

Anyone here addicted to any particular TV show?? Like...you HAVE to be home at that time to watch it...if you aren't you scramble to find a TV to watch it...you plan your activities around it...you tell everyone else in teh house to SHUT UP! MY show is on!!...etc... I want to know if I am alone in this or not. :lol:

blugirrl1 04-02-2004 06:56 AM

Noodles, oh yes. I was severly addicted to friends from season 1, then because this is the last season i seem to be missing them. mad that they are ending it i guess. every monday night we have family night and watch fear factor. I must admit to a slight soap addiction. I watch passions, and days of our lives. the bane of the sahm i guess. :p

SoCalBirdLady 04-02-2004 10:35 AM

Six Feet Under! Except that it is off more than it is on. I have never missed an episode since it began and I am on the HBO email list so that I can be notified when it comes back on.

I haven't been hooked on anything like this since Twin Peaks and St. Elsewhere.

mauvaisroux 04-02-2004 10:51 AM

I like home decorating shows and anything that involves forensic detective work/cold case investigations and British crime/mystery shows -if anything like that is on it is hard to tear myself away :lol:

The only t.v shows I really go out of my way to watch are Angel and C.S.I., Six Feet Under and OZ-if I can't be home to watch them then I tape them...anything else I can live without :shrug:

blugirrl1 04-02-2004 11:30 AM

mauvais i love csi, it just comes on to late for me i usually end up missing it. i thought six feet under was hilarious. but alas i chose dsl for the puter over cable for the boob tube so i miss out on most shows.

lizziness 04-02-2004 12:39 PM

The shows we are addicted to are mostly ones we rent on DVD - Sopranos, OZ, Six feet, oh and we love Dead like me though it's not on DVD yet. The only ones I can't live without on regular cable are ER and Friends.

Although, honestly the last time I was crazed over a show was my "Dawson's Creek" (stop laughing at me, you're all laughing at me, i just know it!! *LOL*) Though the way they ended it made me mad and I only watch old reruns from the first couple of seasons. I'm a sad sad girl. *L*

mauvaisroux 04-02-2004 12:46 PM

Dawson's Creek...:rofl:.... that's okay I am a closet fan of Gilmour Girls...or as DH calls it "the talky girl show" :lol:

lizziness 04-02-2004 01:45 PM

In my defence, I was like 15 when that show started. So I got sucked in at an early age. It wasn't like I was 23 and just started watching one day. So there!! :)

I'm also addicted to Jeopardy. My dad and I call each other every night to see who got more answers right. He almost always wins, but it's still fun. :)

Sojourner 04-02-2004 01:51 PM

Hmmmm...

Survivor is probably the only must-see show for me... like I will stay home to watch it every Thursday. I must say I enjoy some of the reality tv... I taped and watched every episode of America's Next Top Model and The Apprentice. :o :lol: We usually watch Fear Factor too. Besides that we always watch the crime dramas like both the CSIs and all of the Law and Orders and Without a Trace and whatever other dramas are on during that time slot. I'm a late night tv watcher so I usually catch Seinfeld and Simpsons reruns and watch Conan O'Brian. :) I will always watch Star Trek reruns and used to watch Buffy.

Other than that, there aren't any sitcoms that I watch regularly... there are very few that are actually funny. The Sunday night shows on Fox are good... like Simpsons, King of the Hill, Malcolm in the Middle, and that new one by Ron Howard is funny and quirky (can't think of the name right now). Now that spring and summer are rolling around, the tv basically gets shut off as I spend most of my time outdoors.

mauvaisroux 04-02-2004 06:10 PM

I like the Simpsons and Family Guy :D

For the most part I don't find sitcoms very appealing-most of them are not that funny and I don't like stuff like the OC etc. Never was a fan of that type of programming. I prefer Sci-fi and spooky/wierd stuff like Twin Peaks, American Gothic, Buffy, Angel...etc. I have watched that new show with Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy) a few times and it's not bad.

I can't stand most of those reality shows but Survivor is fascinating...and interesting study in human behaviour :lol: ....

The worst one was Nick and Jessica-Newlyweds or whatever it is called...DH was watching it one afternoon and I got so irritated by the two of them I had to leave the room :p And now they have their own variety hour....Sonny & Cher they ain't - :lol:

lizziness 04-02-2004 06:52 PM

i forgot one. we are sadly addicted to the old BBC show "All Creatures Great and Small" we're actually on the last episode that is available on DVD so we are pretty sad. Hopefully they will be releasing more soon.

Which reminds me, for any of you old fans of Mellinium it will soon be released on DVD - or so the rumour goes. :)

rachynymph 04-02-2004 07:40 PM

Ok... current TV shows that I can't miss? Honestly, none at all. :p

My favorite TV show of all time, however, would have to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Season six comes out on DVD soon! :D

Hey now! I too went thru a Dawson's Creek stage, and i was in my 20's <gasp> Gilmore Girl's always makes me smile when i catch it. i love thier banter.
I have spent whole days watching home improvment shows, even so far as to watch the "what not to wear"

squeaker 04-03-2004 04:11 PM

Gilmor Girls is one of the shows I tape because I am not home on
Tuesday nights. I just love it.

I watch all things Law & Order. I am also a huge fan of Cold Case Files & American Justice on A&E. And Crossing Jordan.

I have recently gotten into Judging Amy.

My guilty pleasure - Charmed.

SeekInnerThinChick 04-03-2004 05:23 PM

I live in fear that the "What Not to Wear" girls are going to descend on me with cameras blazing, on one of my bad days, when I haven't shaved, washed, combed, brushed my teeth, etc. but do have colorful food splotches on my shirt. *Sigh* there are days when I can give Homer Simpson a run for Slob of the Year.

Navi 04-03-2004 09:34 PM

I'm a cartoons gal. But I like the "Adult Swim" cartoons from Cartoon Network best-- especially "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" and "Sealab 2021" and "Space Ghost Coast to Coast."

I'm also getting into "mXc" on Spike TV. It's this hysterical Japanese show about people playing these weird kinds of games and they fall off of stuff into water and it's so funny.

Noodles913 04-04-2004 07:00 AM

I don't watch alot of TV. I am usually on the computer!! :lol: But..I can't go without watching Thrusday night T.V. I am a Survivor addict. Have been since Day 1, episode 1. Same with CSI, although I have missed most of this season... Also enjoyed Amazing Race, but I don't know if that is returning for another season. I like Friends, but I wait until re-run season so this way I have something to watch over the summertime. I also like to watch anything related to REAL medical...not the E/R stuff on NBC, but the real E/R stuff like Trauma: Life in the E/R...The Operation...Birth Day...Critical Hour...stuff like that. Also thoroughly enjoy those new re-decorating/organizing shows.
My old-time favorite TV Shows were: Little House On The Prairie & Growing Pains. Old time favorite cartoons were Felix The Cat & Pink Panther. Other honorable mentions are: 90210, Full House, Melrose Place, COPS, Americas Most Wanted, A & E Documentaries/Inside Report, MTV's Cribs, and those two new ones with Carmen & Dave and Jessica and Nick. It's nice to see celebs as normal people...burping...cussing, etc. :lol:

except they get paid to burp and cuss. i just burp and cuss because i am a fr%*&($% hog. :p

rochemist 04-04-2004 09:20 PM

I have had no interest in TV since Star Trek: DS9 went off the air, and now I watch those on DVD ;) I want to know how you ladies find time to watch TV? I know you Noodles are a run around alll the time person like me. I can tell you my husband leaves it on A&E all the time so I have seen more parts and pieces of shows about people murdering each other than I ever cared for. He also like History channel :yawn: and Court TV Network (more people killing each other :P ) Maybe I need to start to watch him closer ;) :lol:

Miss Chris :flow:

ellis 04-04-2004 09:32 PM

We haven't watched TV for about 13 years. But I "accidentally" flicked it on once a couple of years ago, and there was a double session of Law and Order on. I was FASCINATED! :lol: I can see how people get addicted to TV.

SoCalBirdLady 04-04-2004 11:36 PM

Rochemist--

I imagine that we are in agreement that, despite the fact that Scott Bakula was wonderful in Quantum Leap, Archer is just not up there with the rest of the starship captains! What a disappointingly written show.

Goddess Jessica 04-06-2004 06:14 PM

Six Feet Under! Ohhhh how addicting!

I have to agree with SoCalady about Scott Bakula. Yuck! Now, Patrick Stewart.... sigh!

There's also Myth Busters on Discovery and something called Cinema Secrets that tells the secrets of filmmaking.

Good Eats is my last guilty pleasure. Alton Brown is hot and the show is great.

Miss Chris - I tivo everything! Shows are much shorter when you can fast forward through commericals. And when you have five minutes, you can watch part of a show and come back to it. I love it.

Navi - Space Ghost rules! I love Brak. And Futurama.

SoCalBirdLady 04-06-2004 07:42 PM

Goddess Jessica--

Oh, yeah, forgot about Alton Brown! My #1 favorite on Food network.

Guess what-- Six Feet Under is finally returning on June 13. And, I will be out of town! I hope I can get someone to Tivo or tape it for me. I need to look into Tivo-- everyone I know who has it says it is fabulous.

Yeah, Patrick Stewart was a class act, but so was Kate Mulgrew!

lizziness 04-07-2004 01:29 PM

Wow, I didn't realize how much of a TV junkie I was until listening to all of you. Because I watch most of the shows you mentioned.
Plus I forgot some... like the Sheild. And MxC. oh and Oblivious. I'm starting to realize that I spend waaaay too much time with the TV.
Then there's my husband who loooooves his cartoons. Especially Adult Swim. I am partial to Brak and the Ripping Friends.
and then and then and then... *L*
Why don't I think I have time for exercise?? :)

I liked it when they did the one on Coca Cola...Cleaned that brown stuff off that penny! hahahaha :p

lizziness 04-07-2004 07:45 PM

I saw that episode. It was amusing. And it cleaned a bumper too and blood off the sidewalk? Eeew. And we put that crap into our bodies.

reminds me of that one episode of Futurama, you know the one that is a spin off of willy wonka, where he tours his favorite pop factory only to find out what the pop is REALLY made of.... :)

yeah, too much tv for Lizzie.

lessofsarahtolove 04-08-2004 04:47 PM

Oh that's funny -- I saw that one too! That show is great. I'm a die-hard fan of, in no particular order, Survivor, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, The L-Word, Soprano's, Six Feet Under, Queer as Folk, Law and Order SVU, Queer as Folk, The Apprentice, West Wing, and Will and Grace.

I could say that I'm appalled at the amount of TV I enjoy, but I won't....I'm not nearly that disingenuous! I love what I love.......so maybe I'll just call just categorize it as "current cultural anthropological research," and leave it at that. Yeah, that sounds a lot better than couch potato! ;)

lizziness 04-08-2004 08:12 PM

I like that Sarah!

Pop Culture studies would work too :)
That's it, it's just a research project. I'm too busy to exercise due to my research project, which I work so very very hard on. :)

:rofl: Yeah, that works for me...I'll think I'll use that!

lessofsarahtolove 04-09-2004 12:21 PM

Woopsie, I just realized that I made no mention of Trading Spaces and House Hunters! Love them, too. And of course 60 Minutes, I grew up with that show, and still love it. Love Morely Shaeffer (sp?) and Ed Bradley....Leslie Stahl's no slouch either!

blugirrl1 04-09-2004 02:43 PM

I have spent whole days watching cleansweep and everything else on tbs(?) even enjoy the what not to wear, and the new wedding one.

lizziness 04-09-2004 02:54 PM

Yes! I love house hunters too. And pretty much everything on Food Network (especialy Jaime Oliver -yummy- and Alton Brown). I miss nigella Bites, we don't have Style network anymore.

oh, and if you didn't make fun of me for Dawson's Creek, I gotta tell you I'm addicted to reruns of Roseanne too. :)

Ooohhhhhh I LIKE that show where the Double Dare guy hosts it...where they show you how the different foods/drinks/treats :chockiss: are made. Fascinating!! I want to go visit that original Dr. Pepper glass bottling plant in the middle-of-nowhere Texas. I bet that's some GOOD Dr. Pepper. :T

Navi 04-10-2004 03:46 PM

My DH-to-be is a HUGE Dr. Pepper fanatic and he *loves* the Dr. Pepper from that plant in middle-of-nowhere, Texas. I can definitely taste a difference but I'm not a huge Dr. Pepper person so I don't really care. But yeah, he grew up in Dallas so every so often he'd be able to get some Dr. Pepper from there and it still makes him happy every time he does.

I'm 100% jealous. :lol: Do you know if they make diet there?

~~~Kicks and Screams for some of the GOOD DR. Pepper.~~~~
blugirrl1 04-11-2004 09:23 AM
the things you learn. i never even knew there was a special dr. pepper. :p
Jayla77 04-11-2004 10:44 AM
Let's see...
I really don't watch a lot of T.V., but I am very addicted to the shows that I do watch- Chappelle's Show is my new fav, SO funny! I love Friends, South Park (I don't care, the show is BRILLIANT), I was a TOTAL Sex and the City addict, I cried at the series finale :dizzy: , and yes, Good Eats is mine and my husband's guilty pleasure. And the one we watch every day is the Daily Show. Sad, but that's really where we get most of our news! haha
Noodles913 04-11-2004 11:11 AM
There is this new show coming out on April 19th...about a family who runs a funeral parlor...believe on A & E. It's not a scripted show, but actually a real life family and the what nots...Call me crazy but I think it might be interesting to watch...Too bad I'll be without sight that day!!! (Eye Surgery Day).
emilyatau 04-11-2004 11:39 AM
Every show I ever loved has ended - Ally McBeal, Dawson's Creek (hey, they were the same age as me!), The Agency, American Embassy...
Now I just watch West Wing reruns on Bravo b/c I have class on Weds. nights when the show is really on. That's actually caused me to discover my new favorite show which is Significant Others on Bravo - if you have Bravo try to check it out its hilarious. And of course, American Idol on Tues. night.
blugirrl1 04-12-2004 08:41 AM
Emily : Ally ( which i loved by the way) had Gil ZBellows omit. He played in my all time fav. movie love and a .45 :love:
Noodles : call me crazy too? lol sounds pretty interesting.
Jayla: Dave is freacking hilarious!! i watched friends religiously from day 1 but since this is last season guess i have been boycotting only seen a few of them. but it will be sadly missed :( what will i watch now :?:
