Ellis: Is the "Sally Anne" something like the Salvation Army? :chin:

I try to donate too, but some of the stuff I am afraid is not good enough --so down the chute it goes!! ;) --Pookie

ellis 02-19-2004 08:05 PM

Yes... it's the Salvation Army. :D Or whoever will pick it up.
And no... I don't donate my "junk", either. I shop in those second hand stores, and I have a great time finding bargains!

MY KINDA PERSON!! Canada, here I come! :tread:

I have been selling things on EbaY again. Sure, I sort & de-clutter slower, but I make more $$ than I would at a yard sale. It gets addicting when checks come in the mail!

blugirrl1 02-20-2004 06:01 AM

lol, by the time we are done with something here it is good for nothing but the trash bin, plus i buy a lot of things second hand already.

yesterday i went over to good friend's and helped her CLEAN SWEEP the **** out of her kitchen. oh the mess before and during. but after what a sight to behold :dizzy: and i think the effort goes in the exercise thread because i was a sweating..

POOKIE88 02-20-2004 10:22 AM

Heather, You are right about your effort belonging on the exercise thread. By the way that was very nice to help out your friend that way!

Yeah ellis, I was just telling my friend about the donation bin in the laundry room of our building. I keep seeing stuff in it that is so worn out that it can't be reused by someone else.

I always donate things that are in good shape and things that are not go in the trash. The stuff has to be wearable and sellable for the Sally Ann -you can't just donate crap with holes and wear marks in it or they won't be able to use it.

lizziness 02-20-2004 08:11 PM

Now now, ladies, if you read flylady you'll see that if you have so much stuff you need to declutter, and all you do is bag it and wait for some magical day in the future when you know you'll donate it, but you never ever ever do....
then just toss it! it's better to have it out of your home then donating it all, even to charity. If you are so behind you get too overwhelmed. It's better to get it out then to worry about it going to a good home.

Now if only i could talk mom and mil into believing me... oh, and hubby because he has a box in the garage which i am frequently slipping things into the trash. i know he's not going to take them down there! *LOL*

ellis 02-21-2004 04:47 AM

:D I do FlyLady, too, Lizzi. I missed doing the 27 Fling Boogie yesterday...

mauvaisroux 02-21-2004 07:39 AM

yup! I am slowly implementing Flylady into my life - my shoes are on and my sink is shiny! :D

Thanks Pookie, and it must worked ( scale stayed down today, lol) plus she is so happy when she sees her kitchen ( as a kitchen now, it was a utility room that was cooked in before.)
I am one of the ones, that love to clean, and organize. :)

What is this Flylady? sounds interesting.

POOKIE88 02-21-2004 10:37 AM

Heather

www.flylady.net

It's a great website (and book) about organizing your life.

It also includes great tips about getting rid of clutter. Like setting your timer for 15 minutes and declutter for those 15 mins. It gets you started because it doesn't seem so overwhelming and you often go over the 15 mins once you get started --Pookie

Big magazine purge on the weekend and more shredding! :D

Noodles913 02-28-2004 03:59 AM

Well, I weeded out all of the junk in the yard and trimmed the trees, bushes, etc..and picked up all of the garbage that seems to wind up in our yard and threw it all in the trash! Yahoo!!

Next on this list...home improvements!! 1st up is to build the attic storage access. Today we went to get the materials for it. There is a GIANT attic in our garage, but the idiots that built the house left us NO way to access it so the Father In Law is going to build access to it with 1 of those pull down ladder things. Then he is going to install lights, fans, etc..up there so we can store the holiday bins and other miscellaneous things up there. Then I can CleanSweep even more junk in the garage!! I'll take pics for you girls. :)

After that it's time for a garage door opener to be installed, and then another ceiling fan, a new faucet, then start working on landscaping the back yard. Maybe even put a swimming pool in.
:D

yesterday went to my friend's mom ( kinda my adopted mom, :) ) and we scrubbed walls, floors, cabinets, windows. her kitchen looked so much brighter and it was nice to help out someone who can't do some things due to health problems.
today my to do list is to repot plants, fix washer ,purge kid's toys clothes. hang all the odds and ends hanging around, lol i made a funny. oh it is early and i am goofy today.

mauvaisroux 03-01-2004 12:32 PM

Way to go Noodles and blugirrl! :cp:

Did some more book and magazine purging this weekend - they are going to a good home :D
