Well, damnit, I bought another pedometer. I went out yesterday with DH to buy a new battery and left the damned thing at home... had no idea what battery size to buy. So I thought, "Screw it!", and splurged on another 20 dollar pedometer. (same brand) DH wasn't happy, but I was ready to burst into tears at the thought of having to go home again.
Now I've got my trusty pedometer clipped on and am feeling a little more in control. :D

sflake 09-01-2003 08:19 AM

I was on the treadmill...my butt was draggin for the first 15 min. then I don't know what happened I found my mojo, hit the wall , found my stride whatever...I just got into the music and started running. The more I ran the more I wanted to run... ended up running for 45 minutes

I felt so good! so alive! What a great strees reliever. Not sure if I was running away or running towards something. It was great!~

ellis 09-01-2003 08:22 AM

Holy MOLY, Sflake! Good for you!! :cb:

Ruthxxx 09-01-2003 08:30 AM

OMG, Flakey! RUNNING! I flunk walking on the damn thing after two minutes! Good for you!

ellis 09-01-2003 01:55 PM

Well girls, I promised DH that if the Y was open today we would go. To my dismay, it WAS open. I did half an hour on the bike, and a good 45 minutes on the Life Circuit machines. I can barely type. My arms are KILLING me! I've just picked myself up a little (okay, a big) treat, because D-day isn't officially until tomorrow. I AM still on holiday. At least I've kick-started my body...

Oh, and so far my pedometer is reading 8870 steps. Just going to have a little lie down with my snack and book... :D

Lidian 09-01-2003 03:19 PM

Ellis and sflake! My goodness! You guys are terrific!

I will prbably use my backup pedometer (same brand too, Ellis!) - had got the girls each one and never gave it to them...they are not a good brand anyway, which will be my excuse for not giving them the backup ones! Anyway their mother needs a pedometer more than they do...

Played tennis today with girls and DH, and ran a tiny bit (younger DD ran a LOT, she is a very good distance runner and did about 2 miles to my 1/2 a mile). More tomorrow, I think, as they will be in SCHOOL!

Wildfire 09-01-2003 05:08 PM

I walked today. To the waterfront. For RibFest. :o

And then....I walked HOME.

sflake 09-03-2003 05:20 PM

35 minutes on the treadmill going really really fast!

ellis 09-03-2003 06:16 PM

Wildfire! RIBFEST!?!? You exercise demon, you!

Sflake, do you have your own treadmill?

sflake 09-03-2003 06:25 PM

yes, but it's been a clothes rack for a long time.

mauvaisroux 09-03-2003 07:31 PM

sflake- I used to have a stationary bike -great for hanging laundry! ;)

I got my walking in today :)

Lidian 09-03-2003 08:10 PM

Ran for 15 minutes and it d**n near killed me! Walked some of it too. And walked the school route, 4 round trips, with pedometer. Will sleep well tonight!

Wildfire 09-05-2003 07:08 PM

Ya know, it's the weirdest thing. I posted that on Monday, then *poof* it was gone for the last few days. Now it's back.

ellis, yeah, I figured I'd TRY to offset some of the caloric value of the ribs, sweet corn, and fully topped baked potatoes....oh, and the fresh-squeezed lemonade... :T It was a couple of kms round trip. And worth every finger licked.

I started a walking club at work! :dancer: Every day at noon, we walk for 30 minutes, then we still have a half hour to eat lunch. This accomplishes two things, I get my exercise AND I take my full lunch instead of 15 minutes to eat and back to work. So far we have four people, which is great because if one or more can't go there's still company. AND we're all watching our food, too, so I'll be more accountable at work.

ellis 09-05-2003 07:24 PM

A walking club at work... oh, you clever girl, you!
Pretty much everything you ate at that damned ribfest is NOT on my diet! I haven't had a potato or a cob of corn in MONTHS!

Okay, exercise. Right now I'm at 13 700 steps on my pedometer. Damned good.

Ruthxxx 09-05-2003 09:46 PM

Frass, Ellis! Go to bed and turn the damned thing off or you will be completely unbearable tomorrow!
Good Night!

sflake 09-06-2003 07:00 AM

Holy Moly Ellis~ thats alot of steps...yay for you :)

Wildfire...stop it your making me drool all over my keyboard

Today exercise for me is yardwork and closing the pool

ellis 09-07-2003 08:36 AM

Thank you, Sflake. Thank you, Ruth. :snooty:
Yesterday I did over 12 000 steps. But I ate like an oinker, and gained a pound. Thanks to Ruth.

Sflake, you have a pool, huh? Lucky girl. Do you ever think, "This is ridiculous! I need SERVANTS!" I do. All the time.

Ruthxxx 09-07-2003 12:09 PM

Well, I didn't walk as much as usual but the company was better. My Girls don't chat or shop on our walks.
Today we will do a long walk to the park and then I'll be doing lots of gardening. That sure counts as exercise - bending, stretching, weight lifting - my body always tells me the enxt day that it was exercise!

Jennifer 3FC 09-07-2003 02:51 PM

What kind of pedometer do you use? I've been thinking about getting one.

Lidian - I am impressed with your running! I did 3 - one minute jogs on the treadmill today and it nearly killed me!

ellis 09-07-2003 05:51 PM

I am honkin' exhausted. A friend and I walked to Hull and all over and back. I'm at ummm... 17 650 + steps so far. (Omron pedometer, Jennifer. From the drugstore.)
We stopped at a pawn shop on the way home. A new experience for me. I felt very shady in there. :D

Lamorgan 09-08-2003 08:55 AM

I am leaving to go workout now.

Lidian 09-08-2003 10:42 AM

I went for another little run - am building up again slowly, last week 15 minutes' worth and today did 20...I am investing in orthotic inserts to offset runner's knee, which I am amazed I did not think of last spring when my knee was starting to twinge a little. I do it after I drop the girls at school as I am already outside and might as well. Otherwise I won't, no WAY! It has to be very easy and obvious for me to do stuff. Which is why I like walking too.

Jennifer, I find running (and walking) on a treadmill really hard - much harder than doing it outside, I don't know why! We have a pretty good quality treadmill too. So I think you are doing really well! I can't do more than a minute or so on the treadmill myself (really!). Don't have a clue why!

ellis 09-08-2003 03:40 PM

Lidian, I got orthotics a few years ago, and they are GREAT! (expensive little buggers, though) I guess I should really get a new pair made, but I so rarely wear running shoes anymore... I'm usually in my Birkenstocks, which have been a GODSEND where my feet are concerned.
That is too weird about the treadmill! Maybe it's psychological. ? You and Jennifer have inspired me... I may just start running a little at the Y again soon.
Congratulations to both of you on your running!!

sflake 09-08-2003 03:51 PM

Ellis~ yep we have a pool it's actually for my sister (thats what we tell dh) as with MS she can't get in alot of exercise cuz its dangerous for her to have her body temp. elevated....speaking of exercise you are quite impressive all those steps and yoga too, good for you, I'm proud of ya. Hugs & smiles

PS....yep on the servants, know where I can get some cheap?

ellis 09-08-2003 03:58 PM

Thanks, Sflake. :)
That's so interesting about the body temperature thing... I had no idea. You must be constantly researching MS and hoping for new meds/etc. :(
Hugs back, hon... :grouphug:

sflake 09-08-2003 05:34 PM

Yes I certainly have done my share of reading up on the subject. Poor thing get shot 3 times a week now and the side effects are awful but it seems that new meds are coming out more quickly this is the 3rd one for her. Thankfully the results are good so the side effects are so bothersome. My SIL has lupus and the two are somewhat similar. I think they are very close with viable treatment/cure for MS, lupus and parkinsons. Hopefully...

mauvaisroux 09-08-2003 09:08 PM

Lot's of walking today - walked to WW and home again, probably had about 2 hours of walking in for the day.

ellis 09-09-2003 07:22 AM

Good going, Mauvais!

An hour and a half of yoga last night. :D

Sflake, is it Interferon Beta 1a that she takes?

sflake 09-09-2003 07:38 AM

Yes Ellis it is, and she has had very positive results with it. Way to go on the yoga. Is it hard to do?

ellis 09-09-2003 07:59 AM

Well, yes it is. :D It's actually a low-level yoga. It's called "serenity yoga", and is a combination of physical and meditative. (well, all yoga is meditative, but there's more emphasis placed on Kundalini yoga in this class)
Some of the poses are quite intense, though, and we seem to hold them FOREVER! And we do a lot of breathing exercises. "Breath of fire". I always have a good night's sleep when I get home. :)
My daughter and I get a LOT of tension related headaches (plus migraines), and the yoga helps tremendously.

sflake 09-09-2003 08:30 AM

I just might check it out as I could use a little serenity :D

Lidian 09-10-2003 11:28 AM

Ran again today, 25 minutes. With walking breaks. It was a little warmer than I like for running but it was OK!

Ellis, my orthotics are $15 from Shoppers Drug Mart! Can't remember the name, not Scholl's, though am going to get some of those too...they are great though!

ellis 09-10-2003 12:04 PM

15 bucks, huh? I had to go to a foot specialist and get 300 dollar ones. With 200 dollar running shoes. :D Fortunately all paid for by insurance.
Maybe I'll check out the 15 dollar ones... thanks, Lidian. I had terrible heel spurs. From gaining 80 pounds while pregnant. They've pretty much "healed" now.

ellis 09-10-2003 12:30 PM

Oh, I forgot to mention... I did a half hour weight workout this morning. :)

Wildfire 09-10-2003 08:03 PM

I walked today. TWICE.

Half an hour at lunch, then 2 miles on the treadmill while supper was in the oven.

I need to get a pedometer.

chervata 09-10-2003 09:39 PM

I can only count mowing the lawn, sweeping the walks and around the pool (I can never get the &*%@ leaf blower to start). and changing all the pool filters, hosing them off, and skimming for grass in it. Whew. FEELS like a workout! :p
