Ah... grateful that tomorrow is the start of school.

Grateful for this:
Yesterday DH and I drove over to the Middle Eastern bakery where I get my marvelous coffee beans. (and other things, heh heh) I was in a MISERABLY depressed mood. Well, the damned store was closed. DH insisted on walking up the street to another little store where they sell pita bread from the bakery if it's closed. To my surprise, the owner of THIS store was the son of the baker! Didn't he close his store down for 5 minutes and walk to his Dad's bakery with us and let us buy some coffee. (and pistachios!)
God, I was so grateful to him. His Mom and Dad had gone to Montreal for the day... the bakery is normally open.
That man just MADE my day! I'm thinking of putting him on my Christmas list...

I am grateful that I got through a difficult weekend (20 year memorial mass for Mom) with the help of my wonderful family & friends. It was a wonderful celebration of life! :)

I will never underestimate the true value of kind words. :grouphug:

Sflake, I'm so glad that the memorial went well. :grouphug:

Thanks sweetie I tend to imagine that things are gonna be worse then they actually turn out to be. (does that make sense?)

Bet you can't wait til tomorrow Ellis or should I say Marlena (sp)?

Lidian 09-01-2003 03:22 PM

It makes perfect sense, sflake - that's what I always think too! Glad the memorial mass went well. Fourth anniversary of my mom passing away coming up in a few weeks, so she's much on my mind too.

Ellis! One more day! We love them, yes, but the going back to school is GOOD!

Lidian

Sflake, who the **** is Marlena? If you say my real name, I'll kill you. ;) Uh huh... I always "think" worse than the reality, too.

Lidian, hugs for you, too. I've been blessed having my parents for so long.

sflake 09-01-2003 05:06 PM

Wasn't it Marlena Dietrick (sp)? who said "I vant to be alone"

ellis 09-01-2003 05:15 PM

Oh lordy... Sflake, I'm so sorry. I thought you were going to say my REAL name on-line.
I'm SO slow witted. :D

sflake 09-01-2003 05:17 PM

I would never do that hon. :)

mauvaisroux 09-01-2003 06:33 PM

Snowflake-Glad the memorial went better than you expected :)

Ellis- is that that little Iranian place where they have baked goods, baskets of dried figs and dates and those yummy roasted almonds tossed with lemon juice and sea salt? I was there about a week ago for the first time -loved it- and DH is now addicted to those almonds.

Funny I was talking to my mum the other night and told her DH was out with his friends and that I stayed in because I didn't want to be around anyone and then I said "I vant to be alone"

ellis 09-01-2003 06:43 PM

Ummm, not the one on the corner, Mauvais. I know the one you mean. I'm talking about the dirty little place next door. We used to go into the Iranian place occasionally (yes, I LOVE the pistachios with lemon and salt!), but I find the owners very unpleasant. When one of them commented on the filth of my beloved bakery, it was the last straw, and I determined never to darken their doors again. It IS dirty in there, but the food is clean, and it's divine.
The owner's name is Norman Hannah. He is such a sweet old man.

mauvaisroux 09-01-2003 06:45 PM

I will have to check that place out Ellis :)

ellis 09-01-2003 07:46 PM

Try to ignore the dirt. :D I just tell myself that all places are that dirty... they just hide it well. ;)

mauvaisroux 09-01-2003 09:00 PM

Is it really dirty or just grubby and shabby looking because it is in an old building and the shop hasn't been fixed up in decades?

Is it that place we went to for those buns last time we had dim sum?

twodogmom 09-01-2003 09:07 PM

What a great thread idea!! It's nice to stop and think about what we're grateful for once in a while.

I'm grateful that I discovered the SBD and found the 3fc site, before my impending health problems took a strong hold on my life. Rising blood pressure, insulin resistance, elevated blood lipids, and being overweight.....I am working hard to conquer and reverse all of these problems.

So ellis, you know I have to ask....why are you afraid to share your real name? I've heard the Rock Star theory, but I'm not convinced! ;)

sflake, I'm happy to hear your Mom's memorial went well this weekend. :grouphug: And Lidian, {{hugs}} to you too for losing your Mom.
