Yup, I like the strawberry flavored ones.

I wish pizzelles had something to do with sex. They are a thin Italian cookie, normally anise flavored, made on something that resembles a waffle iron. They are really yummy.

Hi there Wildfire!

Den - Do you need a kick in the butt or something? :drill: Have you seen the VH1 special on Warren? It is really cool.

Sflake - mmmmm Peanut M&Ms. I did have a handful of those last night. They aer yummy.

Ellis - I am glad dinner went well. But what the **** are Bog rolls and sugar pies????

Lidian 08-27-2003 11:38 AM

Hi everyone!

Sflake, I think this is a reference to my putting dish soap on chocolate chips when throwing them out as they are is NOT ENOUGH! Dish soap is of course Canadian English for dishwashing liquid...

Please, what are bog rolls, Den? Is this something to eat?

Ellis, I have not had Smartie ice cream...but each DD has a favourite that I (alas) love - President's Choice dark chocolate with chocolate crackle, and Our Compliments Moose Tracks (vanilla with fudge ripples and pieces of chocolate peanut-butter cups, sort of generic Reese's, in it). They get these on birthdays or once in the summer because I just can't have this sort of thing around. I sent them and DH for the first post-vacation shopping trip and wouldn't you know, they got Oreo ice cream (can't trust them! which is why I usually do the grocery shopping!) And I love pistachio, and of course mint chocolate chip.

What are YOUR favourite ice cream(s)?

I have heard of sugar pie, never had it.

Oh and by the way I looked up pizzelles on CalorieKing awhile ago, as my DDs adore them - and believe it or not they are 60 calories apiece! Those thin little things I can eat 10 of at a time(could and did!). So I don't get them very much either (they got some of THOSE too on their shopping trip! I'm taking over the groceries again!)

Lidian;)

dentrassi 08-27-2003 04:07 PM

Lidian-"Bog roll" is Britspeak for toilet paper or toilet rolls. So, I personally wouldn't want to eat them.....(Okay, yes, I'm a brat!!!) LOVE Moose Tracks Ice Cream!!! Or any ice cream with huge chunks of chocolate in it!!!!!

Squeak-YES PLEASE!!!! KICK MY BUTT!!!!! Butt seriously.....I have been eating a lot of BAD stuff lately. French fries last night!!! EEK!!!! We don't have cable, so I have NOT been able to see the special. Bummer. Sorry, I think peeps are a non-food...(petro-chemical creation like Cool Whip and Twinkies),
But I still crave kraft macaroni and Cheese every so often, and THAT is too, so I'm not in much of a position to gloat!!!!

Ruth-We miss you when you are gone, so PLEASE check in more often!!!! I know you are usually crazy busy too though.......

Sflake-THAT SOUNDS LIKE A BLAST!!!!! Too funny! There is a website that shows stuff like that, but I can't remember the address. They did a LIGHT BULB, and it lit up briefly before it blew!!!!

Ellis-Feeling any better yet? I took a nap, listened to a sales pitch as a favor, (didn't buy any of the overpriced knives however!) and will soon be taking kids to music lessons.....DIDN'T work, DIDN'T go shopping, DIDN'T clean,cook,wash.......DINNER?!?!?! How the HE!! should I know what's for dinner?!?!?!?

Goddess Jessica 08-27-2003 05:58 PM

Squeak OMG, please tell me you are talking about the VH1 special on Warren Zevon. I cried my frickin' eyes out. The Cute Boyfriend is a HUGE fan and he tivo-ed it for us. We watched it a couple nights ago. He was such a cool guy.

Sflake I once glued a Peep to my computer monitor and took pictures of it for my website each month. I was hoping to show some deterioration but.... those things last forever. (And if you stick the peeps in a bowl of water when you microwave them, they can fill the entire microwave!)

Okay, sweets that I love:

Chess pie (you find it in the south, it's like pecan pie without the pecans).
Double Deckers (Brit candy bars)
Maple cookies (the canadian ones with the maple filling, shaped like leaves)
No-Bake Cookies (my mom made these things, they're chocolate and oats and pure heaven)
I too love the chocolate mint combination.

Lidian My new favorite ice cream is Ben & Jerry's Oatmeal Cookie Crunch. I can't stop thinking about it. :)

sflake 08-27-2003 06:10 PM

Den ~ LMAO I thought that a bog roll was some kind of pastry.

Lidian~Thanks for the dish soap idea. We call it that too.

Favorite ice cream is Ben & Jerry Choc. Fudge Brownie. :)
And just about anything selse chocolate. Oh yea Napoleans.

Jessica~ Im gonna have to see that Zevon special. I just heard about his cancer. Always liked him.

Squeak ~ I wish I only ate a handful last night insted of the entire bag. :(

mauvaisroux 08-27-2003 07:30 PM

Mmmmm....President's Choice coconut icecream and Bourbon Vanilla gelato but I think my total fave is orange chocolate tobelerone gelato from our local gelato shop :T

My fave goodies:

Buttertarts
Canadian maple doughnuts
Ginger thin cookies from Ikea
Jalapeno cheddar popcorn
Green & Black's Organic milk chocolate with almonds
and any kind of cheese with crackers

Lidian 08-27-2003 08:43 PM

I once ate an entire container of President's Choice chocolate gelato while surfing the Web, trusty spoon in hand! It was so dense and bittersweet!

Squeak, I LOVE M&Ms, as much as Smarties, plain and peanut kind. I ate a packet of M&Ms every day of the last trimester of both pregnancies (a little packet - well, TWO little packets some days) which explains my post pregnancy stomach...esp. since I ate about 3 bags of chocolate chunk cookies the first week after youngest DD arrived. I figured that since I was losing all this weight (water weight, it turned out to be, not cookie weight) that the cookies would kind of BURN off somehow. hahahaha!

Oh by the way, the pizzelle packet claims they are only 30 calories each but I SWEAR CalorieKing says 60. And they have whole eggs and oil in them so...who knows?

Den, I was glad to hear bog rolls are not edible! I have never heard my in laws use this phrase but then we haven't discussed toilet paper (thank goodness!). Though we might have as I nearly plugged up one of their loos with it in July - (ugh!)

Lidian

mauvaisroux 08-28-2003 01:11 PM

I forgot to mention Kraft caramels but alas! :( I can't seem to find them anywhere - but maybe that's a good thing

ellis 08-28-2003 01:19 PM

maybe in the bulk bins at Pretoria Bridge

dentrassi 08-28-2003 02:07 PM

Ellis and Mauvais-My teeth can't take caramels any more (They HURT when i eat them!!) But I still like a good piece of toffee, butterscotch (the REAL stuff!) or treacle!!!

Lidian-I don't think it is a term used in polite company (DIDN'T learn it from my grandmother!) I heard it first in one of the British comedies. I did the same thing with food after kiddies were born! I figured I was burning off the calories because I was nursing, so was eating sausages and ice cream. Well, when the kids moved on to solid foods I gained a LOT of weight because of it!!!

Jessica and Sflake-Thanks for the tips on the peeps!! I told DS16 about exploding them, and making them grow in the microwave, and got the first laugh in a week out of him!!!!

Squeak-TIME TO CHECK IN SWEETIE!!! I still need that butt kickin'!!!!!

ellis 08-28-2003 09:15 PM

that's because you don't brush your teeth often enough, Den

dentrassi 08-28-2003 11:19 PM

BALONEY!!! (I mean I DON'T, but that isn't why the caramels hurt......They are just too darn SWEET!!!)

mauvaisroux 08-29-2003 08:00 AM

I forgot to share this last week....

Last Friday I got off work early and went to pick up DH at his work. I was walking past Parliament Hill and there were all these people there obviously demonstrating against something but I was to far away to read their signs. Somebody was shouting through a bullhorn but of course it sounded like the teacher from the Charlie Brown cartoons. I guessed that it was probably some group protesting against the same sex marriage law we have up here.

So I picked DH and his buddy up from work and as we are heading towards our house a group of these protesters were standing on the corner opposite to where we were crossing. As we got closer we could see that the protesters were all wearing red t-shirts that said " Marriage = 1 man + 1 woman". I then heard DH say ever so quietly to his friend "Hold my hand" and without hesitation his friend cassually slipped his hand into DH's! You should have seen the looks on the protesters faces!:s:

Well we walked like that with the protesters for about 2 blocks and none of them said a word! It was all I could do to keep from laughing!

My DH is such a quick thinking smartass!

ellis 08-29-2003 09:03 AM

I just remembered... when I was a teenager I used to regularly buy myself a bag of caramels and eat them in my room with a book. (didn't eat the book...) Never gained an ounce.

Mauvais, that is THE BEST! What a story... I LOVE IT!! My gay friend Jim is coming over this morning, and I'm going to share it with him. :)

squeaker 08-29-2003 09:16 AM

Sorry I have been MIA. I have been busy.

I do have a bunch to do this morning so this will be quick -

DEN GET YOUR BUTT IN GEAR! :D Is that a good enough kick? Honestly - you were kicking *** on the SBD and you can do it again!!! Now I need one - I have got to stick with WW (and I like the new plan so I have a shot of sticking with it). I no longer fit into my jeans. I have gained 10 lbs this summer.

Hello to Ellis, Mauvais (LOVE that story), Lidian, Jessica, SFlake, Wildfire, Ruthxxx, and any other lurking chicks.

I promise to be back later tonight to really check in. :)

sflake 08-29-2003 09:25 AM

Morning Everyone :)

Quick thinking is right! ...What a great story. I have some friends that do stuff like that all the time...Me, I'm just not that quick.

Yum caramels, My brother & I used to fight over them all the time. Yikes fighting over food no wonder...

ellis 08-29-2003 09:38 AM

Sflake, I just noticed your quote... I love it!

Damn. My laundry is getting SOAKED!!

Wanttolosealot 08-29-2003 10:04 AM

Hi girls
I am still alive! Sorry have not been with it lately. Hope to get back into the swing of things soon. Kids go back to school next week, so my free time will be my own then. Yeah!!! Going to start walking again and finish up my membership at the gym. Think of you all often. CHat again soon
Virginia

Lidian 08-29-2003 10:09 AM

What a cool DH you have, Mauvais! Great story!

Hi to you all...

Ellis, I used to buy candy expressly for eating while I read in the afternoon, sometimes every day (ugh!) and in grad school the candy sometimes was a big old Tobler bar (the 800 calorie kind) and I never topped 138 lbs. WHere's that old metabolism when I need it? Why didn't I put the Tobler bar down and go for a run! No kids - no housecleaning - my own little carrel to work in - staying up all night in Kensington Market (guess I was too tired to go for a run!)...

Den & Squeak & all, we will ALL get back in gear after this weekend! I swear every summer I get out of shape, put on at least a few lbs - and it has got to stop, I HAVE to get moving again! Since I eat after I have served the girls their meals, I feel like I am always in the kitchen - which doesn't happen so much when they are in school, of course. Tuesday I will get serious again -

Lidian

dentrassi 08-29-2003 10:17 AM

Lidian and Ellis-You two USED to have the metabolism....I NEVER did!!! I used to eat potato chips during finals, but I could NEVER get away with it. The only time I came CLOSE to having a good metabolism was when I was nursing the kids, and when they started weaning themselves I kept right on eating!!! OOPS!!!!!

Wanttolose-HI!!! Good to see you!

Sflake-My sister and I did that too, but SHE is thin!!!

Squeak-HARDER BABY!!!!! But seriously, I am going to start up again on Tuesday. Just too much stuff going on this weekend. (THANKS, bby the way!!!)

Ellis-Try eating the book....GOOD FIBER!!!!

Mauvais-FANTASTIC story!!!! Your DH is DEFINITELY a great guy!!!!

ellis 08-29-2003 12:22 PM

Den, you should never have weened them. The Bionic Woman (Lindsey...?) was still breastfeeding her son at the age of 9. (ick)
Yes... after this weekend we'll get back on track. That doesn't mean you can go hog-wild this weekend though. :drill: (says she, popping a tray of chicken balls in the oven)

 Lidian, in high school and college I used to run a measly mile a day. And I'd eat a bag (a large bag!) of chips after school (pre-dinner) plus about 3 bowls of cereal and maybe a bag of caramels or a couple of chocolate bars. What the heck HAPPENED!?!?

Virginia, get your butt in here next week! We miss you! :grouphug:

Hello everyone!

ellis 08-29-2003 12:23 PM

Wagner.

dentrassi 08-29-2003 05:19 PM

Flight of the Valkeries.....

Wildfire 08-29-2003 08:06 PM

 Mauvais, your DH is the best!

I'm on the Gettin-back-on-track train, too...departing Monday, destination unknown!

 everyone!

mauvaisroux 08-29-2003 08:18 PM

Yeah he's hilarious

Flight of the Valkyries always makes me think of Bugs Bunny...
You know the one where Elmer Fudd is dressed as a viking and singing "Kill the wabbit, Kill the wabbit.....with my spear and magic helmet!"

Everything I know about opera I learned from Bugs Bunny!

dentrassi 08-30-2003 12:37 AM

I KNEW there was a "Y" in there, but couldn't remember WHERE!!!!! I LOVED that cartoon Mauvais!!!!

sflake 08-30-2003 08:12 AM

Me too Bugs Bunny world opera sensation...Love it LOL!

dentrassi 08-30-2003 11:51 AM

OOG!! Now that DH has started the new job and we are within a few paychecks of being middle class ( ) I hope we can QUICKLY save up for that new dryer!!! We went to the laundromat with a house full of dirty clothes, and spent hours washing, drying and folding!! The washer works here, but with all the rain and laziness we had gotten WAY behind on the laundry, and needed to take desperate steps to get caught up. The up side: the kids stayed home and DH and I had some "alone" time......GEEZ! the romance never stops around here!!!!

ellis 08-30-2003 11:58 AM

 Glad you had a good date, Den. I can TOTALLY relate.

mauvaisroux 08-30-2003 01:27 PM

Ha! Ha! Nice "date" Den!

When I was a kid we used to go to the laundromat when I was a kid to do all the bed linen, comforters and towels. I used to enjoy passing time reading with the comforting drone of the dryers in the background and then helping my parents fold the towels. My mum also used to give me some change for the candy machines :)

I mentioned going to the laundromat to DH to get caught up on the post blackout laundry heap and he looked at me like I was insane.

 guess I just have fond childhood memories of being there!

Wildfire 08-30-2003 09:05 PM

I worked in a laundromat when I was 18. I did the evening shift, from 5 'til 10pm. I really liked that job....the hum of the machines, the radio playing, chatting with the regulars, even the scrubbing of the machines and mopping every night. Weird.

ellis 08-30-2003 09:12 PM

Uh huh. Very soothing. My sister used to work in Wringers, Mauvais. Did you ever go in there?

dentrassi 08-30-2003 10:01 PM

We were there from 8:30 until close to 11 pm. The place stays open until midnight!! I love the music they play there too. We used to go a lot before we moved, and almost every time we go that Pretenders song that has the line, "Watching the clothes go round...." comes on. People are usually pretty friendly there too. THIS time we had so much laundry it was a DRAG though!!! My shoulder blades were actually sore by the time we came home!!

Wanttolosealot 08-31-2003 06:51 AM

I hate laundry and it never ends here, we do at least two loads every day if not more. Oh well, beats going naked! At least for the neighbors Ha, ha!
I gotta get back on track girls and I think part of that is daily contact with my GIRLS. You guys are inspiration in some strange demented way. Just joking! I love you guys. Need to get my life motivated again.
Chat soon
Virginia

mauvaisroux 08-31-2003 11:21 AM

Glad you are back Virginia - stay strong, get back on track- you can do it :cb:

Ruthxxx 08-31-2003 12:07 PM

Whew! I will never be able to keep up with all this. Yes, we all need to get back on track. SBD is working for some of us but everyone has to find their own plan. OMG! I'm sounding like Little Mary Sunshine! Anyhow, the nickel has finally dropped for me and I'll try to keep chatting away in here.
Enjoy the weekend!

dentrassi 08-31-2003 12:24 PM

Ruth-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.......That's us Ruth, YOU are Little Mary Sunshine and I'm Pippy Longstockings!!!!! (Theme starts up....."Always look on the bright side of life....") MOTIVATIONAL THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: If you have lemons, bite them and pucker up!!!

Wanttolose-I'm hurt.....first you say we are strange and demented, and then you say we are joking. Why Why compliment us and then take it back?!?

squeaker 08-31-2003 12:58 PM

Hi there Alternachicks!!!

Time to check in for me. Sorry, I have been out more then in. Wed. was another out with Mom night. Thursday I had a "dentist" appointment so I had to leave work early. I went out with a friend to a community full of mediums. That would be the people with psychic-type powers, not the size. ;) I had never been, and it was a lot of fun. I didn't have a reading done, but that was ok with me. Friday, I did something I haven't done in a long time. I came home from work, and slept on and off from 5pm to 9am. It was wonderful. Yesterday, I just cleaned some more around the house. It has been a slow process, but it is getting clean and staying that way. I have really been focused on organizing my house & myself.

Welcome back Virginia! That is not the first time I have been called strange and demented.

Hi Ruthxxx! Glad you can pop in sometimes :)

Den - I am glad you had a wonderful "date"

Ellis - I have NEVER been able to run a mile. I am impressed.

Lidian - Things are easier when there is a set schedule. We will get back on track

Wildfire - Hi there! Thanks for poping in too. We miss you

Mauvais - That was a great cartoon.

HELLO to everyone!

:mouse:

Forgot to add - Went Midnight Bowling last night with sis#2. I haven't done that in a long time but it was a blast! Bowled for 2 hours. It has to count as exercise right?? :D

ellis 09-01-2003 07:14 AM

Squeak, what a busy life you're leading! Woof!
Sounds like you really needed that sleep, hon.
Hey, did you feel new muscles after bowling with your sister? What a hoot... I haven't done that for ages, either. I wonder if my sister would like a bowling night out...

Den, are you still feeling good today? I think you had a good day yesterday... hope it lasts, sweetie!

Ruth, I cannot BELIEVE you said that!
;)

Virginia, get your butt in here. :drill:

Mauvais? Update on your Mom, please. :grouphug: Thinking of you, hon.

Speaking of butts, where is Wildfire, Sflake, Lidian, Twodog, Chris, Jessica, Ginya, Soozie, Merrylegs, Sandi, ... and everyone else?! And where on earth is Sojo?

Ummm... I'm thinking that perhaps we should start a new chat. Perhaps a September one? :D

Ruthxxx 09-01-2003 07:23 AM

Nor can I, Ellis! I've decided to be nice for the month of Spetmeber so I've edited it out.
(It is sooooo boring being nice but I'll try if it helps me lose weight. Actually, I'll do almost anything except skip dim sum to lose weight!)
