What are your favorite tv shows?

Okay - give me your top FIVE (5) tv shows! Not 10, not 20, not 6, only 5. :p

A couple of my favorites are ending this year... so I'm looking for interesting stuff to watch again. I'm not huge on tv, but it's nice to have an hour or two to look forward to every week, ya know?

My faves:

Sex & the City (last season coming up)
Six Feet Under
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (in its last season)
The Sopranos (last season coming up)
Will & Grace

As you can see... only two shows will remain after next season... and Six Feet Under has short seasons cause it's an HBO show.

ellis 03-06-2003 08:23 PM

Ummm, I'd love to join in, but I don't watch TV. :D (although we DO have two of them... the kids watch it, but DH and I can't stand it)
I could tell you what five BOOKS I'm reading right now!

I think I accidentally watched half of Will and Grace once. And Survivor.
I can see how addictive it can be... when we're at my MIL's house, the TV is usually on fulltime, and I can't take my EYES off it!! It draws me. It's like candy.

rochemist 03-06-2003 09:21 PM

If I like something they take it off the air so I have about given up on TV

1. Oprah
2. Birds of Prey
3. Dead Zone
4. Outer Limits
5. Reruns of Hercules, Xena, Seinfeld

Miss DS9 but now they are all coming out on DVD.
Miss Chris

#1 House Hunters HGTV
#2 Design on a Dime HGTV
#3 Curb Appeal HGTV
#4 Surprise Gardner HGTV
#5 Weather channel-well not my favorite, but I watch it enough!!!

Sojourner 03-07-2003 12:54 AM

Tv...

Well, I do watch tv although it usually drives me nuts. Shows I watch regularly are:

1) NYPD Blue
2) Law & Order (any of the three... but especially the Sunday one)
3) The Practice... although they switched nights and now I keep missing it
4) Fear Factor
5)Survivor

Ok... and since I refuse to follow most rules, here are a few more...

6) Oprah
7)Seinfeld reruns
8) Simpsons
9) King of the Hill
10) ER
11) Star Trek reruns
12) Will & Grace
13) Conan O'Brian

And I admit that I like to watch American Idol. :o I've never had cable, but when I am at my mom's I watch Trading Spaces, the Home & Garden Network, and Sex and the City. Ok, I'll quit now.

Lamorgan 03-07-2003 06:38 AM

Hello, I'm back again. :dizzy:

I watch:

1 ~ Buffy
2 ~ Enterprise
3 ~ Survivor
4 ~ Blind Date ( :o )
5 ~ Trading Spaces

Not all the time, but I do indulge my tacky side.

:)

I also don't really watch television. I've been watching a half-hour of Oprah on my break at work, but that will change since I'm moving offices on Monday and there are no TV's where I'm going.

I do like some shows, but I just can't be asked to find out when they are on and then actually watch them. TV is such an energy drainer for me.

Suzanne 3FC 03-07-2003 07:06 AM

1. Coupling (bbc-america)
2. Conan O'Brian
3. Six Feet Under
4. Door Knock Dinners (foodtv)
5. Leave it to Beaver :)

Ruthxxx 03-07-2003 07:42 AM

I prefer to read but have watched Masterpiece Theatre a few times. I did watch Bush's press conference last night. Harry watches every damned sporting event and I get really sick of TV. Before dinner we tune into Galaxie - just music, no picture. Hmmm - like radio!

OI812 03-07-2003 08:01 AM

Here is my list...

1) CSI:Miami
2) Third Watch
3) The Sopranos
4) CSI
5) Oprah

OI812 03-07-2003 08:03 AM

Since I can't make a list of 10 shows....I'll do two posts of 5 shows! LOL

1) Dr. Phil
2) Judge Judy
3) Trading Spaces
4) Everybody Loves Raymond
5)Investigative Reports

squeaker 03-07-2003 08:06 AM

Um, here are my 5 (kind of)
1. Law & Order (but I like all 3 kinds - does that count as 1 show or 3?)
2. Ed
3. Gilmore Girls
4. West Wing
5. Charmed - yes I know it's an awful show, but for some reason I like it.

blackbird 03-07-2003 08:08 AM

I don't watch a lot of T.V. either, cable is too expensive...and addictive and just plain stupid most of the time.. I'll give you my top 5 of all time.

1)The X-Files
2)Kung Fu Theatre
3)HeadBangers Ball
4)I Love Lucy
5)Malcom in the Middle.

Here's a true confession though....
I did watch most of Joe Millonare, but I don't really think it was me watching...I think someone from the spirit world inhabited my body (every Monday night) and forced me to watch.
blessings,
blackbird

Rockette 03-07-2003 08:42 AM

Oh man, we don't get Headbanger's Ball anymore over here! *weeps*

mauvaisroux 03-07-2003 09:11 AM

My top 5

CSI
NYPD Blue
Buffy
Angel
British crime shows (way too many to mention - I am adicted to all of them  )

ellis 03-07-2003 10:00 AM

Oh... Masterpiece Theatre! I forgot about THAT! You know who I miss? Elwy Yost. What a weird, cozy little man. With great movie choices.

ginya 03-07-2003 10:11 AM

am i the only one out here who watches the total flatline brain candy???
Drew Carey Show.
Who's line is it
Animal cops
Animal Precient
emergency vets

and while I am on the tread mill...
state of grace
discover health channel, body challenge

and just for morbid fun:
any shows with true crime involved
investigative reports

trading places (like watching a train wreck!)
what not to wear (car wreck)
monty python (brain wreck) spam, spam, spam, spam.....

and yet...amazingly, I think I don't watch much TV...

katrinabgood 03-07-2003 10:27 AM

Ooh, I wanna play too!

#1...absolute favorite show:Seinfeld reruns
2...Buffy
3...Survivor (guilty pleasure)
4...CSI
5...The Osbournes

That's about it for me...I do put on the "Show Tunes" channel quite frequently...no picture...no commercials...all show tunes, all the time! My family mocks me for this...

Lunula 03-07-2003 10:34 AM

Bah! Buncha rule-breakers!!! /point Ginya, OI812 and Sojo! :p

LOL, and don't feel bad, Blackbird - I watched a couple episodes of Joe Millionaire myself... but he just totally ruined it for me, lol. I wasn't at all interested in him or any of the women... and I hated that pretty much all the women looked like complete gold-diggers. I know Fox set it up that way, but it just turned me off completely.

And I love Oprah & Dr. Phil, but they're not on at optimal times for me, so I never get to see them (unless I play hookie!!). I have a VCR, but it's not even set-up - I only have it so I can do work-out tapes in the kitchen, hehe. I hate recording stuff, I end up never watching it later. And I love Animal Planet shows, but sometimes I just can't watch it because the shows make me sad, lol. My husband came downstairs one day and I was bawling because of something that happened on Animal Cops... just breaks my heart.

Glad to see a few more Buffy fans out there... even though it's ending this year, I can't wait to see what Joss has in store for us these last few episodes! ;)

mauvaisroux 03-08-2003 01:50 AM

Yeah Ellis! Saturday Night at the Movies with your host Elwy Yost!
I always found that funny that his name rhymed with host -don't ask me why  He used to show some great old movies :)

dentrassi 03-08-2003 02:09 PM

YES!!! When we briefly had cable we got in Elwy Yost. I LOVED watching the movies he ran......I used to call him "Whole Wheat Toast", and I used to tell my husband that I had a crush on him and wished that he could be more like him!!!!!

dentrassi 03-08-2003 02:13 PM

Okay, shows I watch:

1) 24
2) Angel
3) Enterprise (not as good as the others, but I still have to watch!!)
4) Malcolm in the Middle
5) ER

There are a few others I watch too, just turning into a couch potato!!!
6) Gilmore Girls
7) Will and Grace
8) Buffy

Unfortunately, some of the shows I like are all on at the same time!!!!!

ellis 03-09-2003 07:29 AM

My sister met Elwy in a bar several years ago. (not a pick-up bar, a COZY bar) Canada is so small-town. heh heh. She said he was the sweetest old darling. I love his voice.

You know, I recognize pretty much none of the shows you're talking about. I USED to watch .... something "Blues". I forget... a New York cop show. And Barney Miller. The Twilight Zone. Dallas. Faulty Towers. All in the Family. Tommy Hunter. Hymn Sing. Bugs Bunny. Emergency. Hawaii Five-0. Get Smart. M.A.S.H. The Partridge Family. The Brady Bunch. Happy Days.

You know, I figure it's been about 20 years since I watched TV...

Oh wait a minute!! I DO love Pengu and Fireman Sam! :dz:

dentrassi 03-09-2003 10:55 AM

DH says, "I bet it was a pick-up bar." But he's just jealous.

ilovemyluckycat 03-09-2003 09:05 PM

This was fun and I had to put my two cents in..

I don't watch much TV. When I used to have cable my cat loved "Big Cat Diary" on Animal Planet. He just loved seeing his wild brothers. I still watch the silly mindless Fox cartoons like Simpsons and King of the Hill and I love Malcolm in the Middle. I used to wathc the HBO shows like 6 feet under and Sex in the City. I prefer mindless TV that is met to be funny. I don't like dramas like ER or the whole reality fad. I'm trying to think what I miss about cable, but you know, I don't!

Sandi

mauvaisroux 03-09-2003 10:24 PM

That's Hill Street Blues, Ellis. I used to love that show too and watched it faithfully.

You know, it's funny, a lot of people love that Sex in the City Show and I just hate it  I have tried to watch it 2 or 3 times now and I just can't. I don't know what it is about that show but I just don't find it that funny or entertaining, and I find the characters annoying, especially Sarah Jessica Parker's character.

I wish we could get 6 Feet Under on regular cable here - it sounds really good.

RavenToy 03-10-2003 07:03 AM

I second your opinion on Sex in the City, Mauv. I thought it was rather insulting, myself.

I'm a National Geographic, Learning Channel, Discovery Channel, Biography, Forensic Detective show kinda gal.

Though I really do enjoy SG1. Dean Anderson just cracks me up.

That is when I can find the time to sit down.

ellis 03-10-2003 07:38 AM

Hill Street Blues! That's it, Mauvais! :D Ah, a trip down memory lane with the TV...

Wait a minute... something is coming back to me...
I think this was just last year, so someone should know what I'm talking about. I was up in our bedroom one evening, and for some reason I flipped on the TV. There was this show on about lawyers... I can't remember the name. (go figure) Not a comedy... a serious thingy. There were about three lawyers... two men and a woman. One of the men is older. Slight, light receding hair. (I've actually seen him act at a theatre in Ottawa)
Anyhow, I was totally taken with it, and to my delight, there were TWO shows of it back-to-back.
Okay, so what the heck is it called? :D
It may have been total trash, but ****... when you never watch TV, it's all total eye candy. heh heh.

Lidian 03-10-2003 10:43 PM

I used to love watching Oprah but now she is on mostly when the kids are home so I let them watch Arthur instead...My fave show is Lonely Planet (I want it to be me with the backpack having cool adventures, except for the bungee jumping), and I used to love Iron Chef but am a little tired of it these days. I also like Alton Brown on Good Eats, and the Food Network in general when there is nothing else on.

I used to have to watch stuff like Barney (though my dear daughters deny it! well, I wasn't watching for ME, that's for sure!) so life is much better now round the TV!

My mom and I used to love Masterpiece Theatre and...I like a lot of English stuff like French & Saunders, early Ab Fab, Keeping Up Appearances, Monty Python sometimes, Mr. Bean.

But now I am too tired for TV and am off to bed! Talk to you later,

Lidian

ellis 03-10-2003 11:03 PM

Oh, I LOVE Arthur! That show is GREAT!! I'm serious. :D

Lidian 03-11-2003 09:16 PM

Yeah, I love it too...only I am not supposed to point out when Arthur or DW remind me of the girls, cuz they go "MOOOOMM! I am NOT!" in loud DW-esque tones...

(P.S. Yes they are, too!)

Lidian

ellis 03-11-2003 09:54 PM

Arthur is very deep.

Lamorgan 03-12-2003 08:25 AM

Oh I love Lonely Planet too! But it's on too late for me , and I hear it changed it's name.

Ballykissangel ~ I used to watch that one.
