Menopause vs my therapist

Hello ladies :D

I'm feeling hopeful that I've found this community. I'm about to turn 52 and I'm getting really overwhelmed.

The weight has been slowly creeping up over the past couple of years. Emotionally this has been very draining on me.

So much so, that I've been going to a therapist. She asked me a question the other day that's been in the back of my mind ever since...

She asked me why I wanted to lose weight - and what that would do for me when I got to my ideal weight.

This has got me thinking about some of my motivations for losing weight.

For me, it'll give me a sense of freedom :carrot:

For anyone reading this - if you were to lose the weight you wanted to lose - what would that do for you emotionally?

Glad to be here,
Amy

Interesting question - I've never thought of it like that. For me - feeling better about the way I feel and look.

Good luck on your journey.

My blood pressure and blood sugar would go back to normal, and my clothes would fit better.

I should have been a little more clear. I meant to say - what would it do for you emotionally?

I'll have a sense of freedom and control in my life :carrot: :dancer:

This therapist showed me a pretty cool technique to help keep me motivated. I'll try to write down this technique a little bit later. I've gotta hang out with the DH for a little while

But what if emotionally isn't your motivator? For me any emotional shift happened at the moment i took action, or more accurately was necessary in order to TAKE action. There really isn't an additional emotional payout at the endgame for me. It is about being able to DO things without pain and medical advantages and stuff like that.

OTOH, I do not have an "ideal weight". I've made the changes to diet and exercise that feel pretty damn sustainable. My ideal weight is wherever these actions land me. Probably somewhere between 135 and 170. Most likely between 142 and 156.

I think it would be a feeling of accomplishment and being in control.

I'm with you on the freedom thing. I don't want my weight to hold me back.

I Hate How Larger Size Clothes Fit on Me

Plus my health is always better, lower BP and healthier feeling overall if I'm at my lighter end of the scale of acceptable body weight for me , personally. So,i suppose health would be my 1st motivating factor to lose weight, and fashion would be my 2nd motivator. Snug jeans just dont turn me on. I cant even think straight when my belly is feeling pressured by the front zipper of my blue jeans. Thats a physical weight control reminder for me to "Get it Together" and begin increasing the exercise, and reducing the water retention inducing foods and table salt too....I still allow myself to eat chocolate for PMS. Dark chocolate is good for me, I sleep better even .....:)
