60+
Every decade of life brings a new set of challenges and priorities. I am 62 and planning to retire from full-time work at 70. Maybe work part-time at a place I really enjoy - an animal shelter or senior fitness or the like. I'd like to get in the best shape of my life now. Physically, financially, happily. Pursue fitness, great healthy food, paying bills off, saving money, being a better friend. Can anyone else relate? If not now, when?

Hi and thanks for the thread. I just turned 69 and am working full time still. I have no idea when I plan to retire but I am working hard also at my health, fitness and finances, etc. I am working with a financial advisor to get things in as good a shape as I can. I am a photographer wannabee so my dream is to be able to spend more time working with that and graphic design to continue to develop those skills. I am also active in community outreach through my church and would like to have more time to devote to assisting others.
Looking forward to hearing more from you. |

I am 63 and have been retired for six years. I have been working hard to get my self in shape by exercising at least an hour a day and TRYING to diet. My high weight was pushing 200, today I am at 154, but I was at 147 last September - I had a hungry winter!
I am not on any meds, and my doctor told me that except for my weight, I am extremely healthy and all my counts are right on the mark. I start every morning feeling I will be sure to stick to 1200 calories, and by late afternoon, that has usually become an impossibility. But, I keep trying. I don't feel my age at all. I have great energy, and I get a great night's sleep. I have no financial problems. But, I am alone and am not very close to family members. |

But I see you are still in your 40s... there is a lot of wisdom to be gained in the next 20 years before you join our age group. :) |
I'm not even close to retiring (still in my 20s), but I thought your post was so great! I'm already planning to do things like that when I eventually do retire. I've seen a lot of people do just that, and sometimes they get busier than they were years ago! I know a woman who works with a volunteer group that helps train dogs to visit hospitals, nursing homes, special education sites, etc., and she says she tries to grab people just as they retire because otherwise they get too busy! But it's always stuff they love to do, which is very inspiring. :)

Hello! I am nearly 64. I have 15 pounds to get rid of. They are all around my middle! I got a fitbit a few years ago. After joining a community for it I noticed how it worked to stimulate me getting more and more steps. That is why I am here. I am hoping to be held accountable. I have used MFP and WW on line in the past.
I work 4 days a week, but now have summer vacation. It seemed like a good way to reward myself, getting fit! I look forward to getting to know you all! |
