Cajun-Boiled Crabs--yum!!!!
Me and Leslie are walking, not fast and not long but the dvd is ok, would love to get in enough good shape to do her more intense ones-one day!!
We just had rain and it was nice while it was raining, but now we have a sauna outside. One of the drawbacks from living near the Gulf.

Hush...Boiled crabs smothered in real old bay....ahhh, after 25 yrs living on the Chesapeake Bay.....instant 5lb swell next day. And worth every morsel. Now days I make oven fried crab cakes top with real old bay. Real old bay is seasoning made up by local markets instead of the canned stuff they make in Baltimore. blah!

Spent the day doing errands and after 2 hours getting oil changed I'm weary and feeling unproductive. Have to do a Mary declutter Thurs.

Mary...my knees are 1000x better. The pain now is the stiffness and creaky feeling that should pass in about a year. I complain of cranky knees after a day of up and downing. They get stiff. Sometimes so stiff I walk like a drunk sailor....get me a pipe and a tattoo and I sing "poppye the sailor man I am I am" Came out of oil place and car was parked on a steep ramp. you'd have thought I was walking a tight rope. I don't even need to take an Aleve. thank you for worrying.

Cajun...we have never had kennel dogs. Everyone has been raised in the house. One time we had 2 German Shorthairs, Lab and a Bassett...oh a whitetail deer named Faline. Plus 2 kids all in a 3 bedroom ranch. Everyone was housebroken and slept in a big puddle. And everyone ate the same food. No not the kids.

BBL making a SF pumpkin dump cake for a friend....k3

Good morning, ladies --
Well, those stubborn two pounds are still hanging on. Ugh.

Tonight I am getting my hair colored and cut/styled. I am a natural redhead but the red has faded and needs the occasional help from a bottle. It's on the long side - midway down my back - and I am thinking of having it cut to shoulder length.

Do most of you ladies still work? More and more, I am finding I am losing my enthusiasm for it. I had a promotion three years ago and took it, excitedly thinking I could make a positive contribution to the employees (involves HR work as well as accounting). However, management is averse to changing anything and I feel as if I am just spinning my wheels much of the time. Always doing mental calculations to see if I can retire early. My husband is four years younger and will be working for some time yet.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Not so good morning. Today is weigh in day. Up 3/4 lb. I know it's sodium based and lack of exercise. ( I hate sweating). I'm going to try floor exercises today. Might not be so bad on my knee that is hurting. Played pokeno last night. Not a good game but fun. I got back at 9. Ds and dh were eating and discussing building new pens for the lab puppy and hunting beagle rabbit dogs. I went outside to play with Molly Belle. Then they all came outside at 930 last night. She is so spoiled. I'm dog sitting again today.

Mary I love when our boys come for supper too. With them in their own houses I miss not having them here.

Tam I know exactly what you mean when it rains and then the sun come out. Steam. We ate boiled crabs and shrimp Friday night Saturday and Sunday night. Sodium you say? I'm trying to flush it out with water but it's taking a few days.

K3. Dh say dogs are for outside. But if course all we ever had was hunting dogs. I don't have time to care for a small pet in the house with the kids I keep. Not too safe either. Maybe one day I'll have one. When I'm retired. My sister has one and we all spoil him. So you like crabs huh. They are worth the sodium gain. I think. :-(.

Deelou congrats. I'm up 3/4 this week. Hopeful for next week though. If I can stay away from the boiled seafood.

Cherry hang on we can do this. Don't give up. I'm not!! Find an incentive to do it. My ds is getting married in March. I have 7 months to give it my best shot. Sometimes short term things help too!!!

K31 do you know when Tim will be home?

Rosey I can picture you on your deck with a cup of coffee. Rosey can you see mountains from your house. I think mountains are just about the most beautiful thing on this earth!

Gotta go babies need attention.
Hugs

Cherry Tomato, my husband retired early, 8 years before I did. I didn't want to retire. I finally did it at age 64 because of health issues. Now I am not sorry that I did it, except that money is tight. I had to pay for my own insurance until I was old enough for medicare. That's what really hurt for the first few months. If your husband is still working and you are covered on his medical insurance that should really help out.

Mary
, I tend to eat very low carb at breakfast and lunch. If I'm gong to eat carbs, it's usually at dinner. Yesterday before dinner my blood sugar was at 67, my lowest ever. It's scary. I ate a small baked potato with dinner and at bedtime I was at 97. Perfect, for me. I was still at 130 this morning. I can keep it low during the day but it goes up overnight. I am so afraid of having a low while I'm asleep.

We only pay $20 per month each for our medicare supplement. We have copays and % to pay, but they are not high IMO. I am satisfied with my insurance, so far. It is a very popular insurance in this area and it is accepted everywhere. Insurance has changed so much in the past few years. When I get my notifications, I am surprised at how little is paid to the doctors. They go through a lot of education to be paid so little.

I slept in until almost 11 this morning! I went to bed at 12 but it was one of those nights when I just could not sleep. Dh went to the gym but I just could not get out of bed. Was so surprised when I woke up and saw how late it was! I feel much better though.

So all I've gotten done was eat breakfast, set out the trash/recycling, did budgeting and quickly checked for messages from family/friends online. I plan to do some cleaning in the kitchen and maybe a little decluttering. I didn't get much of that done yesterday.

I was thinking last night how even though I have complained about the insurance thing, I can see how God is working it out for good too. I was sad mostly for dh and the other vets about TriCare, but for now at least we can still use it for our meds and we will also be able to stop paying for our gym usage since that will be covered by the advantage plan. So although I complained I do know that ".... all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Another thing is that the specialists have not yet complained about our Medicare/Tricare supplement so I think we can still use that for them. We seem to have several specialists these days. I have looked at all the plans our clinic will accept and think we will go with Providence. The changeover doesn't take place until Jan 1, and we will not switch over until late Nov or early Dec, just in time to have the application processed etc. It will be a big change for us but we will be ok. I will be setting aside some money to cover the co-pays and other expenses as they come up. Means less travel money but I realize that many people can't travel at all, and who knows maybe that will be provided in some other way...I am often amazed at what my Father does for me. So I apologize for all my complaining.

Wannabe -Yes the low payments is why doctors (here at least) will no longer accept supplements with Medicare. You have to have a Medicare Advantage program now. This is different than a regular supplement or gap insurance and while often more expensive they usually offer lots of benefits. We are choosing the cheapest plan which is $56/mo for the two of us.

I agree low carb is the way to go....in the beginning, the diabetic nutritionist had told me I could have three carb serv a meal, but these days I try to limit to one or two, but sometimes esp at dinner I do get three. Usually I do ok with that, but it's my evening snacking that messes me up. After dinner I have trouble keeping to the rules. I've tried eat three carbs at every meal to fill up and hopefully prevent the evening eating, but it didn't help and I just ate more. I even get lots of fiber either with food and if necessary supplements. So I think it's not hunger, it's habit. And honestly I can't even tell by my am bs...it can be high when I've been good and lower when I've over eaten...I'm sure it's related to how much glycogen gets released but for now I've given up on controlling the am bs and concentrating on those later on in the day. I have been getting enough test strips for 3x day but now Medicare has decided I cannot have that many so may put me back to 1x day. My carrier is trying to prevent this and I will find out the end of this month.

Cajun - I have never wanted dogs in my house but have very slowly mellowed through the years. When our last two kids were young we had a little Dachshund and she was a house dog. When she was killed (car) I said no more house dogs. We had a large collie who was outside, a beautiful dog. She got sick and we think she died of CA as doc found a large mass in her abdomen. I said no more dogs because of our frequent traveling...at the time we were traveling for up to 3 mo at a time. But since then our kids have been bringing their dogs over when visiting and I'm once again getting used to having a dog in the house.

Cherry - Just wait it out and eat more veggies, fewer carbs, easy on the fat, exercise more if you can...you will see those pounds drop off again. You can do it! Some of us work, but I don't, I've been retired for 19 years and love it!
Thats the way I felt toward the end of my working...just lost my enthusiasm.

Karen3 - Glad your knees are so much better...and it is just a time thing. I read somewhere that even when we feel good that complete healing from surgery inside, takes up to a year and I suspect in us older ones even longer. So sounds like you are doing fine. Happy for you. BTW, I haven't had surgery and I get awful stiff sometimes too...getting up off the sofa is the latest issue...once I'm up I do fine, but getting up is not easy. Takes about three trys...sure makes me feel old and it makes me think of my dad when he was about my age. But we are still moving and that's something to be thankful for! Popeye was quite the guy, wasn't he? So grab that can of spinach and keep on keepn' on!

Lucinda, remember when I bought the spiru-tein packets to try. I didn't like the vanilla so put the other one aside for a while but this morning I decided to try it and it wasn't bad. Only thing was not enough fiber but I took a supplement and will try to add some more fiber later this morning hopefully in the form of fruit if my bs will allow.

While sweeping, I discovered this item. Pretty clever though knowing me, I'd find someway into it. Might help someone though. I entered the sweep so if I win I'll let you know how well it works for me.

Hola, Goldens!

Miss a day… and there are two pages to read! I’m so glad!!

Deelou – I LOVE the “gotcha day” concept! It’s every bit as special (and maybe even more so) as a birthday. Also, congrats on hitting the 16# mark!!

CarolSue – so far so good… of course, I’ve been retired just two full months (and I don’t count June since I was dealing with the hip surgery and recovery). For now, it still feels like a vacation. I am loving this, though, and my former boss has agreed to not browbeat me about coming back. I thanked her heartily! I’m not ready and might not ever be ready.

I hope your tendonitis is better!

For years, I’d take one afternoon a weekend and cook large quantities of food and portion it out. Some I’d give away, and some I’d freeze; I always had a good and healthy lunch and dinner ready-made. It sure helped when I wanted to hit the drive thru on the way home from work!

Cajun – are you still babysitting that puppy?

Bobbi – I’m so glad your dressings are changed and that your doc is happy with your foot! When are you planning to do the other one? You seem to have bounced back quickly once the initial pain subsided. Is everything else better in your life, too, I hope?

KarenFL – I’ve been watching “Breaking Bad” and I think I broke my Kindle. It’s easier to watch it on the Kindle, instead of sitting in front of the computer, but the Kindle keeps knocking itself off the internet. It makes me VERY testy. Do they have batteries that go bad? Maybe I need a new battery or something. I’m going to call them tomorrow and see what they say.

Are you still seeing your PT, as well as doing the pool stuff? It hasn’t been even six months since your surgeries, so I think you’re doing marvelously! Mahvelus, dahling!

Did you have skin tags burned off or moles or what? That can be painful! Oh, poor baby! (did that help?)…

Cherry – I’d love to see a picture of that new little GD. They’re so sweet at that age!

Lucinda – are your blisters healed?

CK – I’m anxious to get the latest update on Tim. Geez, things went south really fast, didn’t they, mostly just over the last week or so… Thoughts and prayers continue for you and Tim.

Rosey – hola! How’s your boy doing? Still feeling better, I hope?

Gayle – I’m so glad you had a good birthday… and I think it’s very way cool that your DGS brought his little girlie to spend time with you. You must be a good granny (I KNOW you’re a good granny!). How’s he doing with his new job and are you still taking and picking him up from work? You have beautiful grandkids!

Mary – your BBQ chicken dinner sounded SO GOOD. That’s one of my favorite meals, could eat baked, grilled, or BBQ chicken OFTEN… and, of course, corn on the cob… oh yummo! I admire your de-cluttering perseverance! It can be overwhelming! I’m slowly getting my house into shape. Before I got fixed, I just couldn’t physically do housework, and my house turned into a horrible pit of yuckiness. Slowly but surely, I’m getting it back to where I want it.

Tam – glad you and Leslie are still buds. I just ordered a DVD by Peggy Cappy, titled “Yoga for the Rest of Us” and it’s geared to arthritics. Since my doc has warned me off such things until December, I thought this might be the answer, and I can go easy on the right leg. It should be a much easier routine, which is what I need. I need the stretching and flexibility. I’m plenty strong, but I have no stamina. Sigh.

Nothing else to report. I've been busy... but doing what??? I'm not sure! Weather is good, and I really can't complain about summer so far. Three more weeks of potentially awful temps... I can stand it!

Hope life is good for all... Later, lovelies!

Went up with my sister to see Tim today. I paged and texted the Drs. and Social workers and said we would be there about 3:00. Met with just about everyone. They have determined that Tim will need to have 24 hour assistance, so this means they will be placing him in a Hospice facility. They are checking to see if they can get him in somewhere a lot closer to home. So far they are looking at a place that is about 50 miles away but that is still better than 150 miles away. They are giving him morphine and keeping him comfortable. They may be able to move him as soon as Friday or it may be Monday.

Good Morning
Karen...prayers to you and family. Having Tim closer might help you get some sleep, our own beds are always better.

Donna...I have my dressing changed again this morning, will ask doc about the other foot. I was thinking I didn't want to go thru all this pain so quickly again, might leave it until January. I will ask him today how long until the pain is all gone, I'm still taking pain pills, down to about 3 in 24 hours.

As to the worst thing that could happen to my grandson, he doesn't know about the alcohol intervention yet. We're having a first time meeting tomorrow morning with the gentleman that does the intervention. He wanted to meet with all the adult family Dami has, parents, grandparents and siblings without Dami there. He wants to make sure we're all on the same page and nobody will enable him.

Last week I felt like I was down at the bottom of a pit with no way of getting out. I'm just not up to posting much, sorry.

Good morning GG's

Understandable Bobbi ~ you and Karen MO are both going through some pretty rugged stuff right now.

Bobbi ~ glad there are people who know how to help your grandson ~ thoughts and prayers for him and your family.

Karen MO ~ I'm glad that hopsice is there to help Tim. They have so many things that help keep their patients comfortable and are such a big help to the families too. Glad they will be able to get him closer ~ so he will be nearer to the support of family. Prayers continue for Tim and your family.

Hellos to everyone else ~ DH has stuff lined up for us today, so I will have to do the personals (address each of you individually) later today.

Take care

Good morning! I am still getting the hang of this board and getting to know everyone.

I can be on my husband's medical insurance if I don't have any available myself. His is very inexpensive - works for a hospital group and it's $4 a month for him. Or maybe it's $4 a pay, but even if that's it, very inexpensive. Mine is not much worse; it's $29 a month. It is one of the things that is keeping me working, because I worry about what if he lost his job. Or couldn't work any more.

Weight still the same this a.m. Although part of the problem seems to be my scale. It's a Weight Watchers digital scale, and I can step on it five times and get five different weights. I'm thinking of replacing the thing. My son has a Homedics in his bathroom and I tried that out; seems a lot better.

Some photos were taken at the party after the Baptism; I'll see if I can figure out how to upload them! I'm not so good at this uploading thing.

Sorry to hear your troubles, those of you who are going through a rough patch. I will remember you in my prayers.

Good morning. My day started at 6 this morning. Feed puppy and then 1 st child here at 620. Today I only have 4. The other 2 are on vacation.
Last night we were invited to a fishing camp by a hunting buddy and his wife. The have a camp with floating dock. We will also be fishing from a party barge. It will be good to get together with them. The last time we were invited I was having those stomach issues. I think that's better. But it's going to be a hot weekend. 95degrees with heat index over 100. I'm going to do my best I can with my eating.
My oldest son was supposed to take a test last week but they found out he needed a class of somekind and so he wouldn't be able to test. He just missed the class and the next class is not until November. Pretty upset. Frustrated. But yesterday he told me he got a 3.22 raise anyway. He is happy now!!

Bobbie maybe all your grandson needs is reassurance that his family is there for him and he is loved. I may not be an addiction yet at this point but more of a depression/rut in his life. He may bounce back quickly. Praying for him and for your family to have the strength to see this thru. What a trooper you are for wanting to do the other foot so soon after all the pain you've gone thru. But when your done you will be glad I'm sure.

K31 prayers continue. Can you feel my hug. My arms are around you hugging tight tight.

Donna 3 more weeks of hot weather? Can I please please go live with you? We have 2 1/2 more months of this hot stuff. I'm still puppy sitting. She is getting attached to me more than ds. He's working and she knows I'm the one caring for her. Yesterday afternoon we were out died and ds got back from work and she would follow me instead of him. He would call her and she stayed by my side. I don't think he liked that too much. But he has to work.

Mary how is the sugar levels today? Hopefully you can get it stable. Is that possible for a person to have stable sugar levels? I know very little about diabetes. 12 noon!!! I would like to know how it feels to sleep until 7. Even weekends when I don't have to work my internal brain says wake up its 5am. Glad you got much needed rest.

K3 ouch. I had 2 warts burned off my hands about 17 years ago. I was supposed to go back the following week to burn off a couple more. That dr never saw me again. I think he burned my bones on my hand. Glad the burn is better!!!

Cherry did you get your new haircut and style? Pampering ourselves always makes us feel better.

Hi Rosey, CarolSue and Deelou!!

Be back soon.
Hugs
