Hola, Goldens!

Dee - it's so nice to see you back! I'm glad your weight loss is coming along so well... you'll be so svelte for the wedding! Are you doing any better with the soon-to-be DIL? How's your mom?

RAINY here! From the time it took me to run in to pick up Mom's prescriptions and getting back to the car, it went from sunny to a gully washer! I couldn't believe it! I love the cooler weather, so I am not complaining!

Nothing to report. Life is good, status quo.

Rosey - are you still doing well?

CK - hope you feel better!

Gayle - hope your DH survives (hehe).... and any news on the job front?

Bobbi - sorry that the package came back to you. At least, though, they did return it instead of just either trashing or pocketing it! Best laid plans... dontcha know?

Later, lovelies!

Lost 5.9 pounds on my 1st full week of Weight Watchers. Now I am stopping and thinking about what I am eating, and not just grab something quick. I hope I can keep the pounds falling off.

Hello GG
It's been awhile. I've been reading but not taking time to post. Food plan is going good and bad. I'm off and on. No motivation. I really need to get motivated. My jeans are getting right. I didn't want to buy more jeans but dh and I are taking a vacation next month to the smokey mountains and I need clothes.
Dh and I are still working at ds house doing forms for concrete. It's time to finish. This weekend we are going to the camp to clean everything for the fall. We have not been there since February. We usually take everything out of the rooms and wipe ceilings, walls and floors. Oldest ds is finished with his night turnaround so him and his gf will come up help up. Youngest ds may have to work. The next 2 weekends will be work days for the hunting club. Then hunting season opens the first weekend in October. We are going to tennesse October 12. Then it's back to the camp every weekend until march 1. I love the fall when the cold fronts start coming in and I can sit by the fire.
Dh and I are settling into our home with no boys in it. Sure is strange not having 5 to 6 loads of laundry every couple days. The small amounts of food I've been cooking is taking some getting use to also.

Rosey I'm so glad you are doing well after your surgery.
Deelee is was good to hear from you after all this time. Our boys are fine. I don't know if you know but they both bought houses. Dh and I are empty nesters. :-(
Karenfl I need you to start yelling. The rolling pin might come on handy about right now.
Mary I wish I had your willpower. I'm a all or nothing kind of dieter. You seem to be able to get back up after 1 mess up.
Donna I can't wait for cooler weather. We are still on the 90's.
Bobbi I'm loving the pics of your special hideaway upstairs. Very lovely.

Hi to all I missed.
Hugs cajun

Default Hello Golden Girls! May I Join Y'all?

My name is Jill.....I'm 62....and suddenly woke up to realize that I'm now officially fatter than I've ever been in my life!! Of course, it's my husband's fault lol. Have started back watching calories and carbs and logging everything that passes my lips into the My Fitness Pal app on my iPhone/iPad. Not much of an exerciser, but I am trying to at least walk some...and a little more each day. Luckily, Hubby is also at his all-time fat, so he's joining me in my effort to get back to a healthy weight. He's great support...don't get me wrong...but I still need some gal-pals to cheer me on. I belonged to 3FC for a good amount of time but was not able to sign in under my old name...so here I am a Newbie once again. Nice to meet y'all!

Good Morning.... Welcome Jillie and Kris. Good luck to both of you on your spiral down in weight. Jill...I laughed when I saw your avatar, 5' 6" to 5' 3". I'm happy to see I'm not the only shrunken skeleton on the board.

Bruce sanded two sides of the exterior yesterday in prep work for painting today. I'll be helping with the paint. We have a North side and West side that needs a really high ladder to reach the peaks, scary! Bruce is afraid of heights and I'll be doing the peaks. My balance isn't what it used to be, we'll see how that goes.

I just sent a healing prayer to you Rosey, you're in my thoughts.

Good Morning Everyone!

Good Lord Bobbi....prayers for your safety up and down that ladder...maybe you could head on down to the hardware store and convince some cutie to paint those peaks for you And yes...my skeleton has shrunk....it prob has to do with 2 spinal surgeries. Hmmmm...I'll have to ask my Neuro if he can do one to replace what he took the first 2 times!

Kris...have you tried logging everything that passes your lips? That's how I know I'm serious about losing pounds. If I'm not committed enough to log, then I know I'm not really in the mode to do it. I use My Fitness Pal, which is an app for both iPhone and Android phones and tablets. There are also some online logging sites.

Raining here in The Blue Ridge / Smokies today....the small river right off our deck is really running right now. Cool front for the weekend, 75 degree days with 50 degree nights. My favorite temps!

Have a great day y'all...and... !!Lets Stay on Track Today!!

Hey jilly. Can we please switch homes for awhile. My favorite place on this earth is those smokey mountains. You would love living in the swamp land. Heat and Mosquitos. Abundant seafood. Lol. Dh and I are going to the smokeys October 12. We have gone 4 times before but always in August or 1 st week in September. I'm wanting to see the fall foliage. Any advise for our vacation.

Good morning to all. Rosey hope your healing nicely without too much pain.

Hugs

Hey Cajun! I spent my **** raising years in South FL and many of my adult years too. So I feel your swamp and 'skeeter pain! I used to love the sun, heat and humidity...but since menopause, just can't tolerate it anymore! We have an RV that we keep in the furthest western part of NC and spend our summers here from mid-April through mid-October. We're near a tiny town called Andrews, NC, population 2,500. Love this little town nestled along the Valley River in the Nantahala Natl Forest at the mouth of the Nantahala Gorge. We're only about 1800FT, but our summers are cool and comfortable here along the river. We have fun exploring rivers and creeks, waterfall hopping, gem mining, gold panning...all kinds of stuff to do!

Much of our family is in Ocala, Florida...so in Late October we head back down there for lotsa birthdays and the Holidays. We have a park model on a small lake in the Ocala Natl Forest near Silver Springs. The family keeps us hoppin all winter so by April we're definitely ready for our laid back mountain life. We've definitely found a way to have the best of Both Worlds on our SS budget!!

I'd really recommend that you begin your journey in Chattanooga, TN (our closest large town) where you can see Ruby Falls and Lookout Mountain. There's also a cool aquarium downtown. Then head East through the Ocoee Gorge along US HWY 64. Explore the little town of Murphy, then head East on US 74 to Andrews. There's a beautiful bed and breakfast here. The rates are decent for a B&B....so maybe you could make that your home base. I'll have to send you the link another way, it won't let me post it here.

There are many beautiful rides around Andrews, like the one to Nantahala Lake, where there are lotsa cabin rentals. You can also head on up through the Nantahala Gorge and catch the Blue Ridge Parkway if you want! Or if you want to stay closer to this area, you can zip over to nearby Robbinsville and explore the Fontana Dam and Lake...and/or take a gorgeous fall drive along the Cherohala Skyway. If you go over to Franklin, NC (another day trip) HWY 64 will take you up through the Cullasaja Gorge where there are 3 magnificent waterfalls. We have a few here in Andrews, as well, but 2 of the 3 over there are just awesome!

If you love the mountains, this it where you will find nature, nature, nature. There are no rides, or putt putt kinda stuff. You have to go on over to Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge for that kinda thing. Although we do have a casino in Cherokee.

Hi Everyone,

Having a bad knee day. I have an apt. tomorrow morning with a Sports Medicine Dr. so far, the cortisone shots and the PT have not worked & the pain keeps getting worse. I have a feeling knee surgery is in my future.

Had to replace my computer. Other one got a bad virus. Saved some data, but no programs. Lost all my Diet Power - years of data. Oh well, a good time to start over.

Still teaching my courses.

Have a good week-end,

Lynn

Jill we have been to tn and nc 4 times and have seen rock city ruby falls and some of the places you've mention. What we plan to do is take the cherkola skyway to ribbons ville then to highland to see the waterfalls then to Bryson city to see road to nowhere then to Cherokee to see the Cherokee village and then to mt Mitchell then to grandfather my, blowing rock, Boone, Johnson city to seveirville for Dixie stampede, then to gatlinburg to roaring fork and old distillery tour then to our favorite place Cade's cove and thru the park. That's the plan. Just visiting lots of falls. Doing some hiking and some museums. I'm hoping by October 12 the foliage is turning reds yellows and beautiful. I read that it starts turning in the higher elevations first. Would you think by October 12 foliage is turning? That's what the computer is saying.

Good morning to all GG. We did more work on ds concrete forms yesterday. Tomorrow we are headed to the camp to open it up and clean it. Going to be a hot sweaty job. I have stuff to do do ill get to personals later. Have a good weekend everyone.

Hugs

Hi Everone! Happy Weekend to Y'all!

Hope each of you has fun and is able to stay on track! So far, so good for me. I'm not going to weigh myself this week as I've just started my healthy eating plan. I made a scrumptious chicken skillet dinner last night, only 217 calories, virtually no fat and no bad carbs. It was yummy and satisfying. Even my vegetarian pup loved it! Let me know if you'd like me to post the recipe here. They won't let me upload a pic of it (which I think is ridiculous, btw).

Today is sunny and cool....about 75. I think we're going to hop in our Old Jeep Wrangler and go explore the Fontana Dam and Lake area near Robbinsville, NC.

Cajun.....your trip will be a great one! Sounds like you will get on the Cherohala Skyway near Tellico. There's a wonderful waterfall on your way. It's called Bald River Falls...one of our favorites. Out of Tellico, not too long after you're on the Skyway, in the Cherokee Natl Forest, be watching for River Road off to your right. Just follow that road along the river til you get to the falls. It's right off that road, so no hiking involved! If you haven't already seen it, I'd recommend it since you're so close.

When you get to the end of the Skyway, follow the signs to Robbinsville....go through Robbinsville and out onto 19/129/74, which is the Nantahala Byway. At that point you're just a few miles east of Andrews, which is where we live! You'll turn left to get to 28, which is the road to Franklin and 64, the waterfall road to Highlands.

I'll keep you posted on the fall color. I too hope it comes at mid month since we head back to FL for the winter on Oct 20 in time for granddaughter's birthday.

Hugs....Jill
