I hope you are all having a good Sunday! It is very warm here...dh is sleeping on the patio but I got too warm out there and it is nice with the AC in the house.
We went to church this morning and stopped at McDonalds for lunch on the way home. I took a nap and since I woke up have been reading...just finished 1000 White Women ..this is a book recommended by Karen3. I LOVED it and hated for it to end even though it left me feeling very sad. I can see, Karen, why you questioned it being fiction...the way he writes it makes you wonder even though he himself says it is fiction.

We went to a BBQ yesterday. I made far too much fruit salad and now I'm left with a lot left. I'm wondering how it would do if I froze it? It is good but very sweet and we can't eat much. I made it from a recipe given to me...it uses canned fruit and sweetened condensed milk, coconut gelatin and shredded coconut. Dh wanted jack fruit so I added that too but didn't care for that. If I ever make it again, I will use fresh fruit mostly (I do like the canned palm..I drained the syrup of course and it tastes kinda like gummy bears to me!), regular coconut and just drizzle a little of the sweet milk over it rather than following the recipe. It is tasty though...somewhat addictive..and I esp like it when I added nuts to it once. I loved the sweet/salty combination!

I'm really lazy today...think I may lay down again...but I may never sleep tonight if I do. Glynne I hope the doctor can help you with your pain.

Quick hola, lovelies!

Cleaned two rooms... in this heat!! It was so bad that even I couldn't stand it, so you know it was bad. The bedroom and the bathroom are clean. Since I'm on vacay this week, I'm hoping to get to the living room, kitchen, office, and, maybe, the basement. We'll see! Since I've been dealing with Barb's house, I've totally neglected my own... and I'm not a good housekeeper on the best of days. It was BAD. I took a nice shower and am revived.

Made a yummy smelling dinner of chicken breasts, pineapple, a mandarin orange simmer sauce and rice. It looks and smells wonderful... I have five meals to freeze. Yay.

Nothing to report. The hip has been giving me fits the last couple of days, but I'm so full of Advil right now that I feel pretty good. I must have zigged when I should have zagged. It doesn't take much to throw it into conniptions, it seems. I've been going for a couple of weeks without pain and then, blammo! Anyway....

Gayle - I'm thinking about you. I hope your rheumatologist can help you on Wednesday and doesn't poo poo your symptoms. INSIST!

I'm reading a silly little book (completely mindless, which is fun), and I'm going to get back to it. I just wanted to check in.

Later, goldens!

Good Morning girls
I just spent a little time going back over some of your post to try and catch up. Seems like a few gals missing, what ever happened to Isabella?
Bruce is working on the trim inside the house while I laid down pre-stick tile on the stairway going up to the loft. (It's not a real loft, but that's what I call it) What do you call the whole top level of a home with one big room?

Today I'm putting up white racks on the top of the stairways going down to the basement. It's just off the kitchen and I need them to store all my plastic wrap, waxed paper, tin foil, zip bags, etc. Since my kitchen is so small, I don't want to waste a drawer for those items.

The cement was laid for the double garage and the carpenters will be here next week, crossing my fingers on that one. Our basement is full of garage stuff plus we've rented two garages for other garage items. I think everyone should have to move every 10 years, then we'd not pile up soooooooooo many treasures.

Rosey...I thought of you the other night as we watched a new program on T.V. It was about 3 different people living in Alaska, one above the artic circle. I can't remember the name, below zero or something like that. It was so interesting, some of those places are so remote.
I had to scroll back a ways to see where you posted about your fall. How's it going? I see you posted a weight gain, sorry about that but when you're a good cook, it happens. What's happening with your surgery to remove the extra skin? Sorry I haven't kept up with everyone, maybe you already have your appointment scheduled.

Lynn...I'm envious with all the fun place you travel, taking the train must have been a blast and so cheap. I live in a one horse town where the highlights are the county fair............boring.

Donna...are you working on Barb's house alone? Didn't she have family, kids?

Cajun...You and Lynn always have such adventures to go on, can I come live with you? Camping was my ideal vacation, we loved tenting when Tiffany was small. We purchased a trailer with a tent on top, what do you call them? We hated it, after one summer we sold it and purchased a tent again. Ruffing it was great!

Mary...your fruit salad sounds divine, more like dessert. Send some my way. I'm wondering why your dh likes sleeping in the heat?

Glynne...I had to jump back on post to see what happened to your wrist and hands, didn't find it. Only someone asking about it. As to your daughter and grandkids, yup...put it all in God's hands. I know how hard it is worrying about our kids, my own seems to be going thru trials. She took on a foster kid and he likes to play with matches. Ask me if I worry about him burning the house down?

We have black raspberries in the woods next to us, we harvested a bunch yesterday. I mixed them with a bag of thawed strawberries, added some blueberry pancake syrup and a little corn starch to thicken up the sauce. It was yummy on the sugar free cake I made.
how many calories? I don't even want to think about it.
later gators

Bobbi ~ the wrist/hand pain started back the end of April, but I think it is all a part of a big arthritis flare up. It started with my wrists/hands then other areas (knees, ankles, sometimes - hips, neck, shoulders) were affected. Some mornings, I can barely walk. Life is not very enjoyable right now. The pain will let up a wee bit during the day, but never completely goes away. I have missed many days of work. I got FMLA to help with that.

I have an appointment with a rheumatologist on Wednesday. I hope so badly, she can fix me up.

My boss had told me a couple times that stress affects the arthritis. I think that is what happened. Because I stressed/worried so much about Sara and her situation, ~ I stressed myself right into a great big arthritis flare up.

Hello to everyone else ~ I wish you well.

Quick check in...

Bobbi - so good to read your newsy post. Sounds like all is coming along as it should! To answer your question about Barb's house... no, she was alone, had no family or kids. Just my brother and I are in town (two others live out of town). That brother is off on his third vacation since June 1 and won't be back for another week. He and his wife have been a huge help, but most of it has fallen on my shoulders. These are the same two that had to vacation when GM had her carotid surgery, too... they don't do well in a bind, I guess. Today I see the realtor.

It's so nice and cool this morning. We're into our monsoon season (seems like such an odd term for our area!), and the rains have been wonderful! One more bad month and then Fall will start... I cannot WAIT.

Gayle - good thoughts about your hurts. I can so much empathize and sympathize, although mine is just the hip. I can't imagine how awful you must feel! Good thoughts!

Better get rolling! Later, lovelies....

Donna, good luck today with the house. Hope everything goes smooth for you.

Gayle, thinking about you and sending prayers and good thoughts.

Bobbi, good to hear from you. Sounds like you are keeping busy for sure. How are you liking the new house, other than all the extra work at getting it set up the way you want?

Need to get going today. have a bit to get done here this morning. Have a good day everyone!

I've been eating too much of the fruit salad I guess as my weight was up again today. I've gained 4# since the BBQ! I'm sure a couple pounds is sodium, plus I ate a little too much yesterday. This is why I weigh so often because it gives me time to make corrections in my eating before it gets out of hand. At least that's my theory. I think mainly it's because of the fruit salad. It's too addictive! I love fruit anyway and the sweet taste and different textures in it just draw me back. This morning I took 1/2 cup of it and blended it with 1/2 cup milk and a handful of ice for a delicious smoothie. Very yummy but very sweet...I think I could have used 1/3 of the fruit salad and it would have been just as good. So its a way to get rid of it and there isn't much left. Dh is helping me eat it but I tend to eat more.

Today I'm going to be more careful with my eating. And I'm happy to say that my bs was great just now...two hours after breakfast and exercise!! At the gym I only did cardio...walked/jogged a mile, biked 28 min and 6 min on the hand bike. Not sure the hand bike is considered cardio but they only have one of them so when it's free I try to do it as part of my PT for my back. Oh and I also went up and down the stairs an extra time...I'm going to try and increase the times each day or week...see how it goes.

It's going to be a hot one today. I didn't sleep very well, so may try to slip a nap in but also want to bless my home with some cleaning too. I've kinda neglected it last few days.

Jess1 - Good luck with the house! It's a lot on you with your working too. Glad you have taken some time off.

Glynne - Have you seen the specialist yet? I hope she can help you. Worry/Stress can definitely cause health problems or exacerbate existing problems.

Bobbi - Your house will be such a nice comfy home for you and your dh. Very happy for you! I wish I could send you the fruit salad so I'd stay away from it! Dh was sleeping outside but on the patio which has a roof so he wasn't in the direct sun. He does try to avoid the sun but he loves the warmth. He tends to be cold a lot up here in the NW. He came in happy and saying he felt like he was back in the Philippines! Those berries sound yummy!!

I ordered some tops and a bra from Onestopplus.com last night. They have plus size clothes many from Woman Within. They used to always be too big on me but I now realize you have to check their sizing as their clothes are made already adjusted for a larger size. I can actually wear a medium there! One medium was just right, another just a little large. So hoping I'll have good luck this time too. A little bit large is usually ok because their clothes are kinda cheap and may shrink.

Ok, I need to eat a bit and then get busy...you all have a good day and stay cool! (like we'd ever lose our "coolness!" )

Donna--- I should have been cleaning but not!!! Did two car shows on Saturday (didn't win anything) but still had a good time and met some other people. The first show was from 2 to 4 and I was pretty much wilted by the time we got to the second one at 5! It lasted until 8:00 But once we got set up and registered we went to a little sandwich shop (Minervas Candy Store) and had a sandwich and a drink. Sure lots of nice cars and some junk but fun!!!

Hi everyone. its been a few days since i've been here. i was feeling sad over a funeral that we went to on sat. there was an awful plane crash at one of our local airports. all 10 on board where killed. the pilot was alocal man who took over his fathers business when he passed and made it bigger and stronger. he loved to fly,was in my oldest dd's class, son, husband and father of 3 little kids under the age of 5. so very sad,he was anice person. they dont know what caused the crash yet,but the plane exploded on impact. the other folks where 2 familys here on vacation with their children. such atragedy,we went to the pilots service and there where so many people there, over 500 i'd guess.his relatives and mom go to our church.
on a happier note ive lost 2# of the 5 i gained,my plastics dr called and wants me to have all the tests all ready done so when i get the ok from the ins company i can be good to go. it also means loosing as much as i can safely befor this all happens. im excited and nervous about it all.
Bobbie i have watched that show, its good but not always truthful, for inastance, most folks who burn wood for warmth all ready have there supply cut, split and covered befor it ever snows. steve and i chuckel over some of the small details, however its pretty close on most things, your house sounds so nice. i have new house envy glynn hope the dr can find a solution to your problem. my dd and dh have arthritis and they take an older drug call ed amatriptalene (spelling? but it sounds like that) it helps with the pain and sleeping. would you be able to get a medical disability from ss and just retire? just a thought. jess, i wish i was closer so i could help you,how sad to deal with your sisters stuff maryea i buy from one stop too,and romans adn women within. most of my clothes come from them. hello to k3 k31,lynn and any others i have missed. hope your evenings good rosey

I will come back here tonight to do personals.

Big news - I FINALLY broke the 145 lb barrier - hit 144 this morning!

I liked the train to Philly so much, another friend and I are going back this morning. The museum is having a program called "Scandalous" - describing the scandals related to various Renaissance paintings.

Check back later.

Good evening GG’s,

Way to go Lynn on reaching 144. You’re doing great. Your trip into the city to the museum on the train sounds like fun.

Rosey ~ so sorry for the sadness of the loss of those lives in the airplane crash. So sad. Yeah ~ for the 2# loss and getting closer to that surgery.

K31 ~ your car shows sound like fun. How are Ginger and Sissy doing?

Mary ~ is that fruit salad gone now? I would have a hard time resisting that too. You do awesome on your exercise.

Donna ~ how did it go with the realtor and the house. I’m sorry that you are having to do so much of this on your own without more help. And sorry that you have to do it while in pain. Hope it sells quickly. How are Samcat and GM doing?

Bobbi ~ I’ve been wondering about Isabella too. Loved seeing the pictures of your house. Probably tiring and fun all at the same time.

Cajun ~ your long weekend sounded like fun. Was K3 in your head keeping you in line?

K3 ~ how are you doing? Did your eyes check out ok? Hope your joints aren’t paining you too badly.

Deelee ~ how are you doing? Hope you are hanging in there ok.

Finally tomorrow is the rheumatologist appointment. Hoping so much that she can fix me up. It would be such a relief to feel better. I hate missing work. My job can be frustrating, but I really do like it, and feel badly that my absences have made it harder for my coworkers.

My brother-in-law (a doctor) recommended a book to me. Eat to Live. He has tried it and found it helpful to him and recommends it to his patients. I learned from him that he has struggled all his life with his weight. I never knew this. He has never looked over weight to me. I guess it is because he works at it. He said he lost 28 pounds without hardly trying. Anyway, the book came today and I have begun reading it. I figure I have nothing to lose by trying it. One of the things it says about it is that you don't go hungry. No counting. Lots of fruits and vegetables. Hoping it helps me.

Hope you all are having a nice evening.

Take care

Gayle - good luck tomorrow. I hope you get some answers.... DEMAND some answers!

Spent a goodly amount of time at DS's house today, and I think this is it. It looks (to me!) like it's in show condition, and I hope the realtor agrees. It should be online by Thursday, with maybe an open house this weekend. And I hope there's an offer that soon, too! My nephew will be my go-to guy for any repairs that need to be made, and he fixed a switch in the bedroom this evening. He should be able to do whatever might be needed.

I'm very, very tired! I don't have anything pressing to do tomorrow, so I'm going to try to have an actual day to myself, since I'm supposed to be on vacay!

Good thoughts, please, that the house moves quickly!!!

Oh, I emailed Isabella yesterday but haven't heard back from her. She's hatching a new g'baby, I think, so I'm sure she's very busy these days. If she responds, I'll let you know.

Everyone, be well. Gayle - KEEP US POSTED!

It is a little past midnight and I'm still up but going to bed soon...just want to be sure I can sleep when I get there. Just realized I hadn't checked in here yet.
It was a beautiful day ...we went to Joe's retiree's brunch. I had NW blueberry pancakes and shared bacon with dh. I also took 3 swallows of his OJ. We also went to Costco and shared a pc of pizza tonight so ended up one over on my carb servings, but otherwise I did ok today. My calories were 1501.

We froze the fruit salad and it is almost gone...it tastes even better frozen...LOL! Yesterday I took a 1/2 cup and put in blender with 1/2 cup of NF milk for a really tasty smoothie! Then dh told me it tastes like ice cream so today I had 1/2 cup as dessert and he's right! Not sure about the calories/carbs but it sure is good! If I make it again, I'll write down the numbers while making it so I will know. But maybe I really don't want to know...

Lynn - I knew you would do it...you are very disciplined when you put your mind to it. I wish I were more like that. I am getting better though. Maybe by the time I'm 80 I'll have this dieting thing all figured out.

Jess - You have worked hard on your vacation! I hope you do get some rest before you have to go back to work!

Glynne - I hope the book Eat to Live helps you. I've read parts of it but I'm not disciplined enough to to follow it exactly. I do try to eat lots of fruits (as much as my diabetes allows) and veggies though and I'm not much of a meat eater but I do like some. Oh, forgot to mention...we made the most amazing beef country ribs last night! I cooked them differently...I usually bake them or dh grills them...but yesterday I boiled them in water AND BBQ sauce. Then after they were cooked, dh put them on the grill just til they dried a bit but not too much and looked grilled. They were SO tender and good! I think I'm always going to fix them this way from now on. I only had a small one but I wanted more.

Rosey - So sad about the plane crash! GFY on losing the pounds.
