~~January Golden Girls~~
We are about Fun and Friendship after 50...
We are the Golden Girls...
There is Value in us
There is Power in us
There is Wisdom in us
And Laughter....
We are a rainbow of unique wonders,
There is love in us.
(poem by Dorothy Holmes)
Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark? 60 mark? 70 mark? Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!

So what worked for everyone in 2012? What are you going to change in 2013?
This is what I learned from my latest Dr. Fuhrman book/diet. Anyone want to buy the "Eat To Live" book cheap? There is no way I can eat 1 pound of raw veggies and 1 pound of cooked veggies a day!
Yes, the smiley is me barfing. Yesterday I made the attempt, I weighed out a huge bowl of radishes, celery & carrots, it was only 6 ounces. I had all I could do to get it down. So I cheated with some peanut butter dip which is low, low calories made with pb2. That helped but I just couldn't look at 10 more ounces. The cooked veggies I don't have a problem with. So what I learned in 2012 is to stick with counting calories. I don't relish the thought of counting again but since I was such a pig thru the holidays, I deserve to be punished by counting calories. One thing I will keep from the Dr. Fuhrman book, up my veggie intake, cut my meat portion to 1/2. I have been meat free until last night, ate a tiny portion of pork loin. The scale is down 3.5 pounds so filling up on veggies definitely will stay in the plan, raw veggies, nah!
Later gators.
You're welcome K3.

Bobbi - you're a good way to start the New Year! You made me guffaw delicately! Counting calories has always seemed to work for you in the past, so maybe that's your best idea?
Working two hours today, off tomorrow, back to the grind on Wednesday. It'll be good to get back to a normal schedule again; I feel like it's Sunday every day!
Not to be too Pollyanna, but have you all heard about the gratitude jar? Write down something good that happened that day, put it in a jar, and read them all at the end of the year. Also, there's a 26-day kindness that was started after the Newtown shootings... do something unexpectedly nice for someone every day for 26 days. I like that one!!
Happy 2013!! I hope it's a good one for all of us; in fact, I expect it to be a good one for all of us!

Just spent 3 hours waiting at the doctors...blah....they got a copy of my EKG and yup Afib. So lucky me I get to go back on coumadin asap. They'll call me with appt with specialist soon. That will blow my diet to smitherines....nothing green basically. Limited vegies. Oh cheers....scary stuff but I don't wanna a stroke.
Happy New Year...I can't wait to try this new one...things gotta get better k3

Karen3 - Oh, I think I could do PB dip with radishes. Kill the taste! LOL Actually, I like veggies, but I like them cooked.
If you guys think Rie is OK, then I will wait patiently for her return. I didn't know anyone had heard from her re the cold. I didn't see a post from her since 11/2.
Bobbi - I took a look at a picture of me from Christmas and decided my Christmas picture next year is not going to look like that. That's not actually anything new for 2013....I probably said the same thing when I saw my Christmas picture last year. But I will keep trying. When I was eating lots and lots of veggies I was losing good, so I guess I will go back to that. But I will not do vegan. Meat and carbs in small quantities.
We are getting snow for New Years Eve. That does not mix with the drinking and celebrating. We will be staying in and trying to stay up til 12 AM.

K3...I love radishes, will try it with Pb2 like Carol Sue suggested. Radishes are also good sliced paper thin on top of thin sliced coctail rye and fat free cream cheese, salt and pepper. KarenMo, what are you going to do different this year?
Carol Sue, yup...lots of veggies sure helps fill us up. We had steamed brussel sprouts tonight with our left over pork loin, kind of dry without butter. But if you're hungry, anything goes down.

Good New Year, All...
It was too cold for any of the idiots to go out and tear up the streets with celebrating last night. A good night's sleep was had by all, I hope.
The chore de jour is to update the new calendar with the birthday dates from last year's calendar! I've plowed through all the trash mail, and I'm ready to begin the spartan splendor program! Yippee!
This week will be discombobbed, too. Instead of being off tomorrow, I'm off today. Working 3 in a row will wear me out, so expect feeble whining, if you can even hear me at all!
It's cold. I'm in the mood for some Wendy's chili, so I might just make a foray to the grocery store and get the ingredients. Yum.
Everyone, have a fine day! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hi Everyone,
Happy New Year. What works for me is "eating half." I eat pretty much everything, but only eat half.
Things are REALLY up in the air with my DD's B&B. LOTS of change in our lives.
I will try to check in more often.
Take care,
Lynn

Okay, I see a lot of one or two letter abbreviation on a lot of the different threads...is their a thread that explains what they all mean? I have no clue as to what a lot of you are saying?

Rhonda - keep a list of what confuses you, let us know, and we'll decipher for you. Also, if you go to the very bottom of this page to Forum Jump, scroll until you get to Age 50+, click there, and you should find a thread with common acronyms. If that still doesn't help, keep a list and then holler!
I'm doing domestic drudgery today. Changed the sheets, did laundry, and now I'm about to head up and watch "Magic Mike"... yum. I'm looking forward to that!

Hi!
Hi, Ladies! I'm Texanatheart. I love Texas but I currently, temporarily have been transplanted to the East Coast. I am happily married with two teenage children. They are all thin!
I like reading all your posts. I love gardening, dogs and cooking. I also love to be outdoors and I like the mountains.
I'm so glad I found this site. I could use the support. I have to lose 40+ lbs. I haven't thought too much about how I'm gonna do it yet. I've lost weight before, but mostly just by keeping busy and cutting out the sugar!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday -- Christmas and New Year's and whatever your family may celebrate.
