Default ~~November Golden Girls~~

We are about Fun and Friendship after 50...
We are the Golden Girls...

There is Value in us
There is Power in us
There is Wisdom in us
And Laughter....
We are a rainbow of unique wonders,
There is love in us.
(poem by Dorothy Holmes)

Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark? 60 mark? 70 mark? Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!

Hi Bobbi.....I had to chuckle at both of our wrong conclusions! I didn't know that about the birds, etc! My name is Decorlover because I like decor, as in decorating my house! Thank you for the warm welcome.

I guess I am suppose to tell a little bit about myself....I am happily married to my wonderful husband, Mike. (38 yrs.). We have 3 grown children and 10 grandchildren. I am a Christian and involved in our church, and have a group of friends who are a blast to hang out with. I like to decorate and give my humble opinion to friends who ask for help in choosing paint colors, etc. I am passionate about politics, but will refrain from that subject here! I started drinking IdealShape shakes as a way to lose weight, and hope to lose around 25 or so lbs. I am looking forward to learning anything I can to help me achieve my goal, and hopefully be an encouragement to you all, as well

Good Morning...my vacation time is about an hour away. That's when DH leaves for deer hunting and I love, love, love the time alone. Well, Charlies here. He's been whinning since yesterday because he see Bruce packing and he thinks he's going hunting too. Bruce usually has to sneak his rifle out to the truck without Charlies seeing it or he goes radical.
I've been gluten and dairy free for two days now and still got a headache at 1:30 this morning. I'm going to stay on the gluten free diet anyway while DH is gone until all traces of gluten are out. It can't hurt.
Thanks for the bio decor, that's a nice talent to have. (Decorating).

Good morning GG's,

One day down ~ two more to go. Then off the weekend.

I had been having a headache the last couple days ~ not a horrible one like I use to have, but enough to be annoying and take some of the enjoyment out of my free hours. I know it was from stress and worry about my son. He told me to stop worrying ~ that a wise woman he knows (you mom) had told him that ~ this too shall pass and that everything will be ok and work itself out somehow. Why is it so hard for that wise woman to follow her own words? LOL.

Any way ~ glad the headache is gone. Feel better this morning.

I didn't get out of work on time to get to be here when Maddie came around trick-or-treating. DH is good at taking lots of pictures though, so I got to see those.

Welcome Decorlover. Looking forward to getting to know you more.

So happy for you Cajun that your son is almost home

Bobbi ~ enjoy your alone time for you too. You and Charlie

Hello to everyone else. Off to work in a bit. Hope you all have a nice day.

Take care

Good morning Goldies,
Another sunny day here. 35 degrees right now.
I STILL didn't get up in time to get to the Y while they have open swim. You can only use the pool while there is a lifeguard on duty, and they only have them for open swim from 6 to 8 AM, and 11 AM till noon. The rest of the time is different groups, and classes, and Handicapped exercisers, so the times are limited.

Bobbi, I have forgotten if you're diabetic, but, when you get these headaches, have you checked your blood sugar? It might be bottoming out in the middle of the night and causing your headaches. Also, check your blood pressure if you have a cuff or machine. I don't know if you take a BP medication, but, if you take it in the AM, it's possible it may be wearing off in the middle of the night and you might need an adjustment to the dosage.
Another thought is cluster headaches. They usually woke my niece up in the middle of the night, and she had pain (headache) behind her one eye. She also was sensitive to sunlight in that one eye and has to wear sunglasses if the sun is really bright.
Another thought, .... have you got carbon monoxide detectors that are reliable? It usually builds up during the night when the house is closed up tightly.
Just a couple of thoughts. I hate to see you having pain, especially when it interrupts your sleep.
Thanks for starting the Nov. thread.

Gayle, you're a woman after my own heart. I'm not happy unless I have something to worry about, my kids say. I made some remark the other day about how I'd feel awful if one of those guys got hurt while working on my house, especially while under the porch etc when it's just sitting on jacks. My son just shook his head and laughed. he said "they know what they're doing, Ma".

I just called that Express Scripts last Thursday to have my maintenance meds delivered by mail, and they delivered the first one on Monday. Then they called Tuesday and left a msg that they were shipping another one that day, and I received it yesterday already. Fast service, free and cheaper.

Cajun, your son is most likely home by now, so you wont probably read this for a while, but, I'm happy for you, your son and your whole family. It's so warm feeling, having them close to home. Enjoy your day.

Decor lover, I'm glad you're here. Maybe I can call upon you for some ideas if I have questions when painting etc after the contractors get done here.
I'm thinking gray in my bathroom, but not 50 shades, just 2 shades. There wont be much wall exposed anyway by the time the shower is installed and I put the new cabinets in. It will even go with the flooring.

I hope everyone has a great day. Take care, .....

Bobbi - I copied the potato recipe. My husband (Mr Potato Head) is going to LOVE them! We get seasoned fries at one of the casinos but I have never made them at home.

Thanks,

I will be back later to answer more posts. I have to finish making dinner.

Evening all...still cool down here about 65 and in the 40's tonight. Lovin it! Just sit and shake my head at the folks up North with post storm problems. You got plan plan plan ahead. Like tank up gas on all your vehicles, bottled water stockpile.(we filled the tub as a kid) and lots of easy meals...like tuna salad, p&j sandwiches, and my favorite canned hash that I can heat on grill or over sterno. Never had free ice/water/food from Fema or Red Cross. Have a real question what happened to all the bugs and rats down in the tubes????eeeewhie!

Next year come the end of October will someone hit me across the back of my head...I take the house apart looking for the tax bill which of course arrives Nov. 1st. Would you believe they charge you 1% interest if you pay online? Why they would actually get it faster.....I'll write a check before I pay that fee.

My darn left knee just won't ease up. I sit and feel good and as soon as I stand it explodes. Oh well less than 3 weeks until the appt. Getting old ain't for sissys!

Cajun....so glad your DS is home and safe. Prayers do work.

Gayle...Hey you don't listen to us when we tell you you're wonderful so why would you listen to you?

Rosey....Is Steve okay? I saw he had lost weight in the last pictures and was gonna comment....he's had enough trouble this past year.

Bobbi...All alone! Wow enjoy...I have 3 days next month that am counting down to....sighhhhhh

Zoe, Marie, Isabella wherefore art thou? Missing you bad

Off to find some new books for my kindle.....k3

Good Morning...I miss Isabella too, she's laying low I think. I miss Lynn and Donna too.For those newbies, she lives in Newfoundland.

Carbie...no, I'm not diabetic and know nothing about my blood sugar. We do have a blood pressure cuff but my blood pressure has always been very low. I suffered with these nightly headaches until I went to have allergy tests. Found out I was allergic to Maple trees, cats and dust mites. I was doing great until we closed up the house and put the heat on. I've got a really old carbon monoxide detector, I will buy a new one next time I go into town. (we live in the country). Thanks for that thought.

Rosie...love the pink boots. Where on earth did you find them? I have a pair of Redwing leather boots that look just like them, only tan. Steve is going to miss deer hunting huh?
K3...I wouldn't pay the 1% interest either, is that property tax? What are you having done with your knee?

Carol Sue...I made those fries Wednesday night and they are too herb-y for us. DH likes them better with just garlic salt. Me too. You might want to cut down on the amount you toss the fries in.
How many of you are 'receipt savers'? I save all mine and put in individual files. Yesterday with DH gone, I went thru them early and tossed most of the grocery receipts. I usually do that at the end of the year. Around here, if you take something back to a store without the receipts, they give you a sale price back or even clearance prices.

Cajun...Yup, we are a very caring group.

Have a great day everyone, I have about a dozen Facebook games going at one time. I need to take my turns and see who I can out smart today. I play Scrabble, Words with Friends and Word Twist. Love them and they keep my mind active.

Bobbi - The word to describe me is "recipe hoarder." First of all, I have a recipe file in Microsoft Word where I put all the recipes I copy from the internet. I have been doing that since 2000, and I back it up occasionally on my jump drive. Then I have a collection of cookbooks that have overrun my step-daughers old room. Over 50 cookbooks. Then, I have tons of recipes that I cut out of magazines etc. Several file folders full of them. Do I cook these recipes? Rarely. I don't know why I do this, but here's a clue. My mother did the same thing, cutting them out of magazines etc. When she passed away, I found the box of recipes and that was the first thing I removed from her home. At least my mother would try a lot of the recipes!

Carbie - I am amazed at all the things you do. I am beginning to think that this is because you were raised a "country girl." Rie is the same way, and she was a country girl, and Bobbi, who lives in the country, is similar. I am a little "princess" who can't do a darn thing. One time my husband was hospitalized and I was appalled when I realized the next day was garbage day and I had to take it out to the curb! I grew up in the city. Not a big city, but a little city outside of Pittsburgh. We had sidewalks, and everyone walked to the little neighborhood school, grocery stores, churches. Cars were not needed, because the bus ran right through town in case you wanted to go "downtown." I am deathly afraid of any animal except my 10 lb Maltese. Several years ago, my step daughter coaxed us to go to the county fair in the next county. I don't know what I expected, but the smell just about killed me. I couldn't wait to get out of there. LOL I saw these little kids, 10-12 years old, barefoot, dragging their cow up to the milking station. "How can people live like this?" We went back the next year, and now I'm used to it and we go every year. I even entered an afghan and won 4th prize. But I still don't know how to do anything. I have no idea how to start the lawnmower, or even where to put the gas, for that matter. If there's more snow than the broom can handle, I'm lost. If anything ever happens to my husband, I'll be in assisted living.

Well, my cardiologist called and changed my appointment from 3PM to 1:45 so I have to go get a shower.

Have a good day everyone!

Morning......Sorry if I sounded heartless yesterday about the Sandy survivors, but I grew up in Jersey and we had alot of storms back then. The blizzard of '48 we were without power for 10 days. We built our 1st house with things like drains in the lines so if we lost power we could drain the water out of the radiators. Hurricane Hazel blew a path thru us.....Have lived in huricane country my whole life and past 30+yrs at sea level on a flood plain. You all have teased me about my plans and preps but they work. The scarest thing I'm reading about is the gangs are taking over areas and helping themselves to stuff....The smells and waste that is floating in the cities must be awfull and disease can't be far behind. We have already sent a check to The Salvation Army because they will get stuff directly to the survivors. I can still see them handing out clean socks and tooth brushes to workers after 9/11....and hot meals in N/O.

I have dear friends and family on the Shore and waiting for word about one son who took his fishing boat out to sea to ride out the storm. That is standard practice and even the USN does that...couldn't get me on one of those boats/ships.Nope no way.

How can people like Bette Meddler have a hugh Halloween party while so many are suffering just blocks away.....something like "let themeat cake" rings my bell. And now they are having the NYC Marathon which starts on Staten Island where people are still buried in muck and without power????
ARRRRRRRRGH

Okay rant over...I am ticked off and don't feel better but at least I said my piece. k3

Oh but one more rant. Gov Christie brags about "Union" busting and then turns away linemen from Ala because they are nonUnion.....what!
