Hi Everyone,

No special plans today. Students are pretty quiet - probably getting ready for Thanksgiving, so I will play here for a little bit.

Rainy day here today. Making my turkey gravy today - dressing and cranberry sauce tomorrow - pie on Wednesday. Of course, turkey and potatoes and veggies on Thursday.

Have a GREAT Monday!

Lynn

Hi Redballoon, WELCOME!

Hi Zoe, so sorry to hear you have that bronchitis again. Feel better.

Hi Chickadee, CONGRATULATIONS on your 3 lbs. lost!

Hi Karen3, My strategy for Thanksgiving is to eat REALLY light this week. Then, on Thanksgiving, have a LITTLE bit of everything. Then, freeze stuff in packets so that I will not overdo on leftovers.

Hi Rie, my DD had a GREAT marathon. 26.2 miles in 5 hrs & 20 min. The funniest sign – “It’s 26.2 because 26.3 would be stupid!” Another great one – “Toenails are for sissies.”

Hi Carol Sue, I start my cooking today. I like doing a little each day. Today is gravy. I use Turkey wings.

Hi Karen, my DD & SIL are still trying to sell their B&B. We are starting to think it is NEVER going to get sold.

Hi Mary, good luck for your doctor visit.

Hi Nancy, Weekend was VERY nice, but VERY tough. Basically, standing and cheering for 5 hours. I am VERY stiff today – and VERY proud of my DD.

Hi Marie, I am looking forward to seeing your new tattoos.

Hi Donna, my DF’s cat has diabetes & gets an insulin shot every day. He’s had it for at least 5 years and is VERY healthy.

Hi Darcy, glad to hear you are happy with your new doctor. I get rid of them FAST if I don’t like them.

Hi Freda, I LOVE carrot cake AND cream cheese icing.

Good morning GG's,

Weekend over ~ back to work. Three days then off Thanksgiving day.

Went to the Renissance Festival yesterday. That was fun ~ seeing the crazy "get ups" that the people (people who worked there and also the visitors) wear ~ a lot of walking. It was Sara, Robert (appaently he is behaving better again ) DH and I, Maddie, Corbin and his friend Brandon. The boys are old enough to go off on their own. I had thoughts about one of the costumed street vendors. They are often rude and outrageous ~ I guess that is how they are supposed to be. Anyway, as I was hobbling past ~ concentrating on trying to walk on that uneven ground without falling down, he says ~ geez lady at least try to smile. I felt like taking his jerky and stuffing it where the sun don't shine.

Maddie and Sara offered me some of their funnel cake ~ yea for me ~ I said no thank you and told my daughter it was "pain on a plate". Actually at the end of the day ~ was under my points for the day.

Ok, guess I'd better stop playing around and finish getting ready for work.

Hope you all have a great day.

Take care

Me too...I've been MIA too. It's been a difficult month, with my DD (the one with bi-polar) - finally out of the hospital, but I still worry about her. She's living in our old home town about 300 miles away, in an apt house we still own. At least she has a roof over her head..but no money coming in right now. She has chosen to distance herself from us right now - and that's hard. My friends keep telling me its a good thing..she is learning to take care of herself on her own.

I have been going to the fitness center about 4-5 times a week, and have managed to lose 2 pounds. A little discouraging, but I feel healthy and that's very important, right? I do read your posts - just haven't had the initiative to respond. Sorry. I give thanks for my GG friends.

Just a quick flyby:

Tea Granny, Of COURSE you can come back!!!! Are you kidding? This is the group that you can always come home to anytime Pull up a chair, bring your tea, and relax with us. Tell us about it if you feel like it...

Lyn, same goes... If lurking here is good for you, lurk away.... if posting is good, join in. I was excited when I saw your name on the "recent posts" notification. So sorry about your daughter. As a mh person, I have always cried inside for families. Have you ever been involved with NAMI? Are they in your area? Some groups are better than others but sometimes they are helpful.

Lynn, your dd time is AMAZING! You must have been so proud!

I have to run to work now, but I will be back later for personals. Just in case anyone is heading off before the holiday....

I just want to say that I am THANKFUL for this group! It means so much to me that I can't even say. Sometimes I am so surprised when I realize that I have only been here since March - it feels like I have known you forever! to all and

Donna, Kai is worried about SamCat. They are soul furbabies and Kai said he must get better. Now. She's worried about you as well.

Darcy, wow on the insensitive a$$ that once was your dr. I'm glad you're liking you new one better. Again, wow on that jerk. Congrats on bringing your lab numbers in the good range. That's hard work.

Freda, what a great idea to make the gravy early. Do you cut the wings off the bird and do what? Please tell more as I love that idea!!!!!

Gayle, way to go for saying no to pain on a plate. You are doing great!

Tea, welcome back. I hope all is well!!!!!

Lyn, I'm happy to hear your daughter seems to be doing all right. I can't say I agree with your friends on her learning to take care of herself. Being Bipolar II, I know some of the ins and outs of "playing the system". I was a pro at hiding stuff from my DH and I worry your daughter is hiding her problems from you. Keep vigilant to make sure she is learning to take care of herself because it can be the opposite. I don't mean to worry you, I just read your post and saw my behavior in what your daughter is doing. To me no money coming in and distancing herself is a pink flag. And though it all you are getting healthy. Congratulations!!!!

Rie, I ditto your post on being thankful for our group. It's unbelievable I joined only in May. Best group on the 3FC site!

My body is at work and my mind is not. So here I am. Posting here is better than twiddling my thumbs, right? The doggie hike wasn't as bad as I thought it would be this morning. I expected to slip and slide up and down the hills. But there were only a few bad spots and the rest was good. Hopefully it doesn't snow again. Not likely but I can dream. Especially since I don't seem inclined to work.

Welcome back Teagranny and Lyn!! Good to see you both here again. I've caught you a couple times on FB Lyn. Sure hope things get better with your daughter soon.

Donna, sorry to hear about Samcat. I told Ginger and Sissy and they both send him hugs. I've noticed lately that Gingers little face is getting whiter and whiter... Sissy probably too but you can't tell on her. I always hate to think about them aging. Hope he feels better soon.

I have so many personals to catch up with but I think I'm going to have to get back to them later today. I want to get some laundry done and have a few more things to finish up that I didn't do for the open house-- But I had the house looking good for people to see. Now I need to do the things that people don't see!!

It is gray and yucky here! Only 39 degrees so don't think I will be enjoying anything outside today!! Just cold and damp!

Have a good day everyone and I'll catch up later.

Good Morning, All…

Busy wasting time at work, but certainly not wasting time by posting here!

I’ve changed the configuration of my desk here, hoping that will help the hip. So far, it isn’t. I’m wondering if I can just go barefoot here? Do you think that would be professional, if I kept my nails painted? I don’t hurt at home; why do I hurt so much here?

Mary – I think you hit the nail on the head… the reason we keep beating our fists against the wall is because we feel out of control and think that we should be in charge.

Nancy – enjoyed your chatty post. Are you going to change your name? Maybe I should, too, since DonnaMarie is now on the site. I can’t think of anything, though, and it seems like a lot of trouble! I’m in a very unmotivated, blah mood!

Marie – is Kai okay? SamCat is doing fine, all things considered. Just like GM, he’s OLD. He eats well, poops, peeps, cuddles, and purrs, so I think he’ll hang on for a while longer! He always appreciates words from Kai and you! Wowsers! SIX tattoos!! Where are they? I got mine a thousand years ago, and I think it’s still there. It on the underside of the belly skin I play with, and I haven’t seen it in years.

Red – how goes it? You sound pretty feisty, my new friend! Even though your abode is wee tiny, I still want to hear about it… and see pictures, if possible.

Freda- is your Benny a pup or a cat? I hope he stays well and healthy for a long time!

Lynn – you sound really good… are you feeling well? Your DD did GREAT! You must be so proud, and rightfully so!

TeaGranny – hello! HOW IS YOUR SON?

Lyn – lovely to see you again, too… and I really like your avatar picture! I hope your daughter does well... what a worry for you!

Rie – it seems like you and Marie have both been with us for a long time. You two just seamlessly joined the group. We’re glad you’re here, too!

CK – SamCat says thanks to the Divas and reciprocates with good wishes for them, too… yes, I’m afraid we’re all in for some sorrow in the next few years. Except for TurtleTut (Zoe’s kitten), I think all our furbabies are in the elderly or soon-to-be elderly category! I enjoy him every day. He’s just a perfect pet!

GM had decided to have tv dinners for T’giving (yuck and ptuii!) and then she decided to do nothing and just blow off the day. My sister and I got the guilties, so I’m baking a turkey, making gravy and potatoes; she’ll do stuffing and veggies, and Granny can make cranberry stuff. I don’t want her alone; even though she says she doesn’t care, I know she does. Tonight will be a visit to the grocery store on the way home. Since tomorrow is her shower day, I’ll deliver everything then. Neither of us is much interested in dessert (if I don’t taste it, I don’t miss it!), so it should be a quick, easy, and good day. Other than that, I have nothing of interest or import to report. Status quo, baby, status quo!

Have a good rest of the day. Hope everyone is feeling well and healthy and warm!

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Rie, Yes,I took NAMI's "Family to family" program about 6 years ago and got a lot out of it. My DH and i are part of a Depression/BiPolar support group here on the Cape and that has been extremely helpful. My DH is BP II, but he has accepted it, takes medication, and is doing very well. He has some irrational guilt from passing on the genetic pre-disposition that our DD ended up with...but hey..we all have challenges of some kind.

Marie, No, I haven't abandoned her..just taking care of myself at this point. I can't keep riding the rollercoaster with her...I will continue to reach out and if she is receptive - great. if not, I will keep reaching, but can't "fix" this illness. Thanks for sharing your experience. it helps.

I hurt my knee this weekend, so am taking a break from the gym and walking. Will get back at it soon.

My doctor's visit went very well!! They have just gone to everything on computers...yes, finally, and I think my doctor thought a mistake was made when he saw the change in my weight! I had told him (through the nurse) that I was starting MF back in Sept but he had forgotten. Besides my weight, my A1C was down to 6.5 (from 7.1), my bp was down to 106/68 and my triglycerides were down to 169 (still a bit high but getting close to normal). So I'm very happy and so was doctor! I went in early for the lab work, ate a MF bar in the car and went on to the gym for our usual machine workout. Then back to the doctor for both our appts. Joe and I weighed the same, and our A1cs were the same!

Jess - I'm glad you're having Thanksgiving dinner with granny/mom. You'll be glad you did. I'm thankful for all the times I had with my parents now long gone.

Karen31 - Only 39 degrees now...your temperatures sure vary a lot! Gray and yucky...yeah that sounds like the NW!

Rie - I feel like I've been on this site forever however not always so active as I am now. I am thankful for this forum. And I am thankful that you are here too! You never fail to inspire me!

Mom - Actually that's a pretty good drop in your A1C so please be happy about it...also usually the A1C is a bit delayed from your efforts so it may show better next time if you just keep up your good work. I understand how doctors can make you feel...once I lost 10# and my doctor didn't even notice. I told him to look at how much I'd lost and he said, well, yeah, ten pounds like it was nothing! He had no clue how difficult it had been for me. He's usually not that way but that day I was so depressed. I had to learn that doctors like the scale have to be thought of as tools to our success. Use them, learn from them but don't allow them to control your emotions. We are in charge of our success and we have to make good decisions and keep on making them. No promises that weight loss will reverse diabetes and other conditions but it is more likely to help. Sounds like your new doctor is a gem!!

Marie - Tattoos, piercings...you are a brave woman!! You seem like a strong woman too...sounds like you get it from your mom!

Take care you all, I'll be back...
Mary

Hello there! Just a quick post here for now. Rosey, I was watching TV while we were eating supper and a commercial came on that blows a Police Whistle really loud at the beginning and end of the commercial. Ginger was barking and begging (in general being loud) and when that whistle blew she shut up and was looking all around. Then she was headed into the living room and had one foot on the carpet when the whistle blew again and she was right back over by me and very quiet.... I thought of you and Sadie and thought -- this might be the thing that would work well with her. So had to share it before I forgot it! You know the memory is the second thing to go and I can't remember the first!!! LOL!!! Be back later...

Hello Goldens!

Today has been a busy day. I did get in a workout today and had a good, on/plan breakfast and lunch. I am trying to be really conservative with calories and stuff because I hope it will balance out the week. Ok, maybe it doesn't work like that. Tonight is pool league and I am not hungry yet so I plan to stop by the deli and pick up some salad.

Rosey, it is cold here too! I don't mind the snow but the cold gets to me these days. How exciting that you can go to the movies! It sounds like you have a great weekend planned.

Karen, good idea on the loud noise. It might really work. "Cleaning the places that people don't see?" My mom would tell you that I am not familiar with the concept!

Mary, great dr appointment! Your results are getting so much better. I am sure that he was pleased. It is always nice to leave the office feeling better - not like some slug!

Lynn, take care of that knee. Ouch!

Donna, my secretary is often out of her shoes She is just more comfy in bare tootsies. Maybe you can at least slide in and out of them as needed all day.

Marie, I am glad that the walk was good. I have been wanting to walk outside but there has been lots of ice these days and I just know that I will slip and fall Maybe soon.

Gayle, way to go at turning down funnel cakes! My kids are involved in Ren fairs. Even though the walking was rough, did you enjoy the fair?

Lynn, oh, those signs are so funny! Runners are a strange and wonderful breed!

Nancy, what are you doing for Thanksgiving. Did I miss it?

Darcy, I liked your description of your current doc. I love my dr - it is the first time that I feel like I have a heath care partner. It sounds like you have found the same. You are doing great with your results. I am on 2 oral diabetes meds and a small blood pressure med. I can probably come off them soon, but I will probably stay on at least some. I am so predisposed to diabetes that it is really tough!

Well, all, I am late for pool league and I need to get going. Zoe, Karen and others that I missed - promise to do better tomorrow.

Hi Goldies,

Everyone is sure busy on here.

I just got done talking to a personal trainer at our local gym. This is something I have thought about for awhile, and I am a bit nervous about it. I want to do this for two reasons, help with my goal and to get some strength in my body, esp my lower back. I have no grip, that is what happens when you spend most of your adult life behind a desk. I have a lower back issue that I am hoping I can help with exerise. ( I think I over did it this past weekend in the woods and am paying for it now)

Have any of you gone this route. I need the trainer, because I have no idea where to start or what would be best for me. I need to decide if I want him to come to my house or go to the gym. (now the werid thing, part of me doesn't want to go to the gym, because I won't know anyone or even know what I am doing - now I know I shouldn't care, because that is why I am going - I am such a wall flower!)

I get my other stitches out of my thumb tomorrow and I know it is going to hurt. One more week, and I am so over talking about the whole episode.

Hope you guys are all staying warm tonight, it is going to be cold here.

Yeah, Rie, that slug feeling is NO good! LOL I've felt kinda like that lots of times!

Chick - I haven't tried a personal trainer but have thought about it a lot. Personally I'd go to the gym. Once you do it it's not so bad. It was hard for me at first too because I didn't have a clue. Fortunately I started out by going to a senior circuit training class, loved it and started trying out the machines before the class..just out of curiousity. My dh was there too but he did his own thing then...and I was scared to join him, but gradually I began to walk on the treadmill next to him before the class. Now I prefer the machines but do like the classes for stretching. Makes me hurt to think of your thumb, I hope it heals fast as that could make it difficult in the gym if you are thinking of lifting. You could do the bikes and treadmill though.
