Nancy, no time today, but I did read the posts. You do know that you aren't supposed to eat RED popsicles, right?

Hi everyone!!!

[FONT="Comic Sans MS"][COLOR="Teal"Happy Friday Goldens!

This morning I walked 3.3 miles at a 15min/hour pace. It felt pretty good. I think I will be ready for the 5k next month. I have short little legs so it is hard to walk very fast. I just want to focus on walking faster because I don't want to be holding the others back. Lynn, what is a good time for a mile?

I weighed in this morning and I am down one pound this month. I am happy with that for a couple of reasons: Due to scheduling, it has only been about 3weeks since the July weigh in. I was on vacation for 11 of those days and enjoying quite a few treats. I was almost anticipating a gain so the loss is good. It has been a long time (20 years +) since my weight was in the 170's. I am just over a month away from one year since the start of my journey. I want to really hit it hard and see what I can get done. But, I am pretty happy if I just continue to lose as I live this way. I also will be going to the county fair and having treats with my dad next week.;)

Ds is working til 9 tonight and then has plans with friends. I am spending the day with little guy. I want to get some work done in the garden and have some play time. Going to talk to friends about maybe hitting the drive in movie or catfishing tomorrow night.

I will be back this evening for personals.

About NMDJ’s – I decided that they will be my reward if I finish the ½ marathon within 4 hours. BTW – I first tried on size 12 P and they were too big. The size 10 P fit perfectly.

About my shoes – I wear Asics. Rie, you ABSOLUTELY need good running shoes. What size are you? If you are walking fast and/or running, you need to get at least 1 size larger for your running shoes. Yesterday and today I wore these new wider shoes. So far I have not had the pain problem, but I also didn’t go over 5 miles each day. I will know better on Sunday when I will be doing 8 miles.

Tonight I am taking my DD & SIL to a new Japanese restaurant. I think it is the kind where they cook the food in front of you. I’ll let you know. I am looking forward to shrimp and veggies.

I talked with the LLS director about my volunteering work. We are going to have a meeting next week to plan a different role for me. I feel MUCH better. I know I am being arrogant, but I really do want to use my experience and knowledge – I do NOT want to stuff envelopes. Sometimes it is just better to choose to feel guilty.

Take care Everyone,

Lynn

Donna, I rememer having Grand Junction peaches when I was a teenager. They are the best peaches I've had with the exception of the ones I had in Thailand.

Nancy, you're a good partner to go through the liquid diet with SO. I'm thinking I wouldn't. :)

Val, yep I'm still swimming, ellipticalling and doggie hiking. Although the doggie hiking is reduced since DH and I are alternating days since he wen tto swing shift. I'm sort of liking ellipticalling in the morning instead of walking every day.I just figured since I do the same thing every day, you all probably didn't need to hear about it. ;) I'd be able to use copy/paste for my posts.

Zoe, LOL, LOL, LOL at overusing your horn. I can so see that with you.

Hi to everyone I missed. Work is hectic so I must get back to it.

Well, got on the wii this morning and my weight stayed the same this week. When I got on the wii this morning it said I have tested for 200 times!! When I think about it that way I really should have lost more than I have! I guess things will even out and once the weather starts turning cooler I will get back to working out with it on a regular basis. I think there has just been too much "STUFF" going on here and in my head this summer so I'm not going to worry about just the 19 pounds gone since I've started and just be glad that they are gone.
Everyone have a good day!

jess1 08-13-2011 11:11 AM

Good Saturday, All…

SamCat was weak with hunger and got me up earlier than I usually allow. Now I’m getting to be weak with hunger, too!

Gayle – I hope your family dramas are calming… that’s never good for the tum, is it? Did you like that movie “New in Town”? The teasers looked stupid, but that’s usually not a reliable indicator! PT/Zoe – thanks for the “Water for Elephants” recommendation.

Nancy – are you having a colonoscopy, too, or are you just being accommodating to SO?

Rie – I can SEE you dancing the “boogie dance”!! Good for you!

PT/Zoe – are you able to see baby Isabella frequently? Maybe your DD could bring over the baby and leave ISIL at home (Idiot son-in-law)? Good luck with the new business endeavor!

Freda – why not red popsicles? Does the red food coloring affect something in the scope? Interesting, and I've never heard that, so today I'm going to learn something!

Lynn – I’m glad you’ve asserted yourself with the LLS director! You’re much more valuable than they’ve used you… and you might enjoy the volunteering more, too.

Rosey – hope your DH is better soon! Did you take all three dogs with you? Oh, my!

Mustang – you’ve done REALLY well and should be proud of yourself!

Not much to report. The job is going well. I have a few concerns, but I’m hoping for the best and that it lasts a long time. I do like it, and I really like the people.

I do want to ask you all to put Granny/Mom on your prayer lists, please. Her surgery is on Thursday, the 18th, and I’m very, very nervous about it. My sister is bombarding the Archangel Raphael, who is supposed to be in charge of healing!

I need to go feed the tummy and then do something. I had hoped that less time would then give way to more motivation; alas, it hasn’t happened yet... and so the house is a PIT. SamCat is a typical male and just lounges around on the couch, drooling! Bah! ♥

Hope your weekend is a good one!

I'm thinking of you all and will catch up on reading the last couple days post tomorrow or monday. We're off to open sympathy cards and send thank you's. I just wanted to post this email I received this morning. I sent it to Donna, KarenMo and Lynn. The only addesses I have.

Quote:

A young man sprinkling his lawn and bushes with pesticides wanted to check the contents of the barrel to see how much pesticide remained in it. He raised the cover and lit his lighter; the vapors inflamed and engulfed him. He jumped from his truck, screaming. His neighbor came out of her house with a dozen eggs, yelling: "bring me some eggs!" She broke them, separating the whites from the yolks. The neighbor woman helped her to apply the whites on the young man's face. When the ambulance arrived and when the EMTs saw the young man, they asked who had done this. Everyone pointed to the lady in charge. They congratulated her and said: "You have saved his face." By the end of the summer, the young man brought the lady a bouquet of roses to thank her. His face was like a baby's skin.
Healing Miracle for burns:

Keep in mind this treatment of burns which is included in teaching beginner fireman this method. First aid consists to spraying cold water on the affected area until the heat is reduced and stops burning the layers of skin. Then, spread egg whites on the affected are.
One woman burned a large part of her hand with boiling water. In spite of the pain, she ran cold faucet water on her hand, separated 2 egg white from the yolks, beat them slightly and dipped her hand in the solution. The whites then dried and formed a protective layer.
She later learned that the egg white is a natural collagen and continued during at least one hour to apply layer upon layer of beaten egg white. By afternoon she no longer felt any pain and the next day there was hardly a trace of the burn. 10 days later, no trace was left at all and her skin had regained its normal color. The burned area was totally regenerated thanks to the collagen in the egg whites, a placenta full of vitamins.
This information could be helpful to everyone: Please pass it on

maryea 08-13-2011 12:33 PM

Bobbi - I got this from Snopes for additional info on the egg white for burns thing.
http://www.snopes.com/medical/homecure/eggwhite.asp

Stayed on plan yesterday but my weight is staying the same. I had quite a bit of sodium I think yesterday so that's probably why. After three days the same, surely there will be a breakthrough if I just stay OP. For breakfast this am I had a George Foreman shake...it fit the mini-meal criteria to a T and is very nutritional, supposed to even have greens in it...but it didn't taste very good.:(
But hopefully it will hold me for a couple hours. It's difficult when your food isn't tasty!

Donna - praying for granny/mom!

Karen31 - 19 lbs sounds really good to me! You are doing fine. They say losing slowly is better anyway. hope so because that's the way I'm doing it. :dizzy:

Rosey - Hope they find a solution soon for your poor dh! GFY for keeping OP despite eating out. I am scared to eat out! I remember your egg muffins. Think I have the recipe even. I have so many recipes it is hard for me to get to them all but I thought I'd try it sometime. I rarely really cook for breakfast beyond preparing oatmeal or a shake, or pouring a bowl of cereal or toasting some bread. The cold cereal and bread is seldom these days! I can have so little dry cereal for the calories let alone after the milk is added, its not worth it. Toast I could have but I forget it, I guess. Anyway, it'd be nice to have something different now and then.

Lots to do again today...with the window guys here yesterday I didn't get some things done in the rooms where they were working and anyway I'm still really behind since the trip. Plus need to go get a few groceries. We are having Balsamic chicken tonight and probably zucchini and a potato. Unless they are really little, dh and I usually share a potato. He doesn't care that much for them and I LOVE them so it works out well. ;)

You all have a nice day...I'll probably pop in and out on FB.

Mary

Riemontana 08-13-2011 08:17 PM

hello all,

I did 65 minutes of walkitout today and I have been on plan. I even enjoyed a couple glasses of wine this afternoon with my fishing buddy. He came over to hang out and we grilled some steaks and enjoyed the afternoon.

I have spent most of the day creating supports for the tomato plants and watering the garden. Tonight ds has a friend over for supper.

Bobbi, hope the weekend is going as well as can be expected. Thanks for the reminder about the egg whites.

Donna, I will be thinking of YOU, and granny/mom this week. Isn't it just like a guy for Samcat to lounge around while the house is going to pot. LOL

Karen31, 19 pounds gone is terrific. I think you look wonderful.

Rosey, I watched Soul Surfer last night. I really enjoyed it. And Dennis Quaid is one of my favorites.

Marie, glad to hear that your active lifestyle is intact;) Are you and the doggies doing ok in your solitary?

Lynn, I think a fantastic, expensive pair of jeans is a wonderful reward! Wow, I wish I was that size.

Nancy, so dh doesn't have to do the whole "cleanse thing"? Just clear liquids for a couple of days? That would be so much better.

Freda, Karenfl, Lyn, Koala, Gayle, and everyone else, I look forward to your weekend tales.;)

Good evening GG's,

I've spent the evening getting things on my computer organized. I had all these pictures that I had saved from my family's e-mails or facebook pages, images from the internet or from the phone that I had e-mailed to myself then saved to the computer. I would always be in a hurry and just save them to the computer, but hadn't set up folders to organize the stuff. I had even found that I had accidentally saved some word documents to the picture library because I wasn't paying attention when I hit save ~ where it was going. So, I got that all straightened out and organized into folders. Should make finding the stuff easier now.

I had originally wanted to work on something else (trying to get my sewing room cleaned up and usable), but by the time I got some of the other things I needed to do, done ~ it was sort of too late to start. That is a project that is gonna take a big chunk of time. So, I didn't want to get that stuff all spread around and not be able to get back to it and have everything all in a mess. At least right now the mess is confined to that one room.

My stupid head had been aching all late afternoon/evening. Not a horrible one like I used to have, but an annoying one that takes the enjoyment out of my day off. I feel guilty complaining about it knowing that Bobbi puts up with them all the time. The only thing that really helps is Excedrin, but when it started aching it was already too late in the afternoon to take it (it has caffeine in it, and I don't want it to keep me awake at night).

Guess I'll say good night all. Hope you all are having a nice weekend.

Take care

jess1 08-14-2011 10:26 AM

Good Morning, All…

It’s 64 degrees here, very sparkly and beautiful!! I can smell Fall in the air! (really, I can!)…

Bobbi – thanks for the info on the egg whites. I thought it was fascinating! Isn’t it amazing how everything we need is provided?

Mary – I’m glad you put the wedding picture on as your avatar. It’s so pretty!

Gayle – hope your headaches are better. Are they weather related? I get cluster headaches from the heat. I’ve been told that these are very similar to migraines, which I’ve had on occasion, too, from the heat. Excedrin Migraine works wonders, but I found something else, too! WalMart has a product, Equate Headache Relief, which covers everything from menstrual pains to dirty dishes! They sell these in two-pack bottles for, get this!, $4.00. It’s the best stuff I’ve ever, ever, ever tried! I’ve totally replaced the Excedrin Migraine. It might be a boon for you, too.

Nothing much to report. I indulged in Almond Chicken last night, so I won’t get on the dreaded scale. I know I’ll be temporarily punished for that. I know that I did so well all week that it’s not going to hurt me for longer than a day or two, and I think that an occasional massive indulgence isn’t lethal. Too bad I didn’t wait until Sunday, when it would have been calorie free!

Hope you’re all having a lovely day!

Hi Everyone,

It is pouring here this morning. I wimped out and did NOT go the team training (at the HILLY park). I did my 8 miles in the nice (and dry) gym.

Yesterday, my DD and SIL and I went to my great-nephew's graduation party. Up in north Jersey, so 4 hours driving round trip. We got home around 9pm and I was VERY tired, but too stiff to fall asleep. I REALLY had trouble getting up this morning.

I am just taking it easy today.

Have a great Sunday,

Lynn

Karen31 08-14-2011 11:08 AM

Good Morning! Just wanted to pop in and say Hello! Getting ready to go to church and then to Bob Evans to meet the family for lunch! I enjoy having our Family Sunday get togethers so much but I hope I can make smart choices at Bob Evans...They have too much good food!! But at least it isn't a buffet!!!!

Be back later....

Riemontana 08-14-2011 11:47 AM

Good Morning!

I think we have become the "aching, hurting group" LOL. I have muscle spasms in my back so bad that I can't move and can't sit still. I am trying to aviod an emergent care visit but I don't know if I will make it. So, didn't work out at all today. It was a rough night.

Donna, it is bright and crisp here today too and I can smell fall in the Rockies headed our way. (Pay no attention to the summer lovers in the group. LOL)

Ds has to work for about 4 hours today. He just took gs to the park to wear him out a bit so it will be an easier day while he is gone. We live across the street from our school. However, we drive to the park so gs never gets the idea that he can go there by himself. From our home, the playground is hidden by the building so I don't think that he realizes where it is ;) Anyway, after an hour of climbing around he should be ready for a good nap today while his dad is gone.

I am going to try to eat sparingly today with lots of green veggies because my activity level will be so low. I will be back later for personals and checking in.

Good afternoon...Just checking in. I walked on the treadmill this am, but knew we had to grocery shop so didn't push the walk very far. Dh is still going with me shopping....who is this strange man....he never went willingly before or does it have something to do with the tastes he gets at the deli? Says it's like having lunch. I got a broiled chicken and made chicken salad for DH and left a breast for me. Thinking lemon/pepper over angel hair would make me happy.

Just checked weatherunderground and all the TS, think there are 6!, are curving right up into the North Atlantic and high tailing to England. Phew! We have started into peak season for hurricanes. So gotta watch daily now thru NOV. Staying hot and humid down here. Almost time to plant the Fall tomatoes. DH had moved a couple of our spring plants to the Northside of the house and they survived the summer heat. Have 2-3 small tomatoes right now. Full/half sun and they boil on the vine.

Rie...I was treated all last Fall for back spasms. I had been using ice packs and then heating pad. Found out the heating pad was bad. Now I just ice....Ice is my friend....Have those gel packs and wrap one in hand towel and it's good for 2-3 hrs. Keeps me moving.

Sounds like everyone is getting some kind of allergy attacks. In the NE it is usually hay fever/golden rod. What is it would West....My DM had hayfever so bad moved to Cal and when the SanAnna winds blew she found out she was also allergic to sage. Time think about Tylenol pms.

Just realized I am straving. Made lunch for DH and forgot me...I was busy prep stuff from the store. If I eat now will screw up dinner. This when I get in trouble. With all your eyes on me I will be good....bbl k3

Karen31 08-14-2011 05:55 PM

Hello this afternoon. We spent the afternoon just goofing off!! Drove by and looked at some houses (peeked in the windows) Then drove over to Main st. in Joplin to buy a "Restore Joplin" t-shirt to find that they aren't open on Sunday. Then headed home, spotted a roadside stand with fresh corn! It is "Peaches and Cream" corn and is so good! But we asked for just a half dozen and he gave us 10---says he always gives more than what we ask for... for $4. I have heard that you can freeze corn---any ideas the best way? I've heard you can leave it in the husk and freeze just like that, others say you need to shuck it and then blanch and all that stuff. I need a good way to do it that will keep it good and tasty without a whole lot of work....ideas?
Gosh, now it is 5:00 and time to think about supper and I'm still full, but Tim isn't so need to at least fix something good for him.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Good afternoon GG's (woops ~ guess it is actually evening here now)

Went to bed with that headache last night and didn't sleep very well. I guess I should have taken that Excedrin anyway in the first place. Oh well.

So, I was awake at 3:30 am and took some excedrin then and had a snack and of course had to get on line. I had an idea about one of the pictures I had tried to post here before. It had come in an e-mail from my daughter, and I tried to right click and save to my computer, but it wouldn't save the enlarged pic ~ only the smaller one before I had done any clicking. I saved anyway and attached it here, but when you clicked on it, it was small and you couldn't see it very well. So, I thought ~ maybe I could take a picture of the larger picture with my phone and e-mail to myself, save to my computer and see if that would work. I think it did ~ I attached here and this time you could see it bigger. It was a picture of DGD Evie at the beach ~ on her stomach on a beach towel reading something ~ with this studious look on her face ~ I just loved that pic. I am enjoying my phone for the ease of taking pictures and sending to myself and then saving to my computer. Don't have to pull out some card or stick or anything ~ real easy and quick. If I could change anything about it, it would be the ability to zoom in when you are taking the picture. Oh well ~ can't have everything.

It has been a nice day. Got to talk to my sister this morning ~ our schedules make it so that it is hard to catch up with each other. We could catch up/communicate with each other even when we can't connect by the phone, if she would use the computer ~ e-mail and Facebook. But she doesn't enjoy that like I do.

Then Sara texted and asked if she and Maddie could come over. That was fun. Then Maddie (DH's shopping buddy) went to help him with the shopping and Sara and I had a chance for a nice "grown-up" visit. When Maddie came back, she was all excited about the rain and getting to use an umbrella. And I got to give Sara and Maddie the matching dresses I had finished for them. They seemed to like them.

Well, the evening is flying by ~ got the getting ready to go back to work stuff to do. Sorry I didn't get any personals done.

Hope you all have had a nice weekend.

Attached pics are of: DGD Evie reading at the beach, and Sara and Maddie with the matching dresses, and Corbin and Maddie with their doggy Zeplin who they had dressed up.

Karen31 08-14-2011 07:59 PM

Gayle, On my Iphone when you are seeing the subject you want to take a pic of, you can tap the screen and across the bottom a slider bar will come up and then you can move it to zoom in.. I don't know what phone you have but it might work like that on all of them

maryea 08-14-2011 08:07 PM

Something happened to my favorite browser, Google Chrome. Just stopped working. I cannot even find the exe file! Checked for a virus but none turned up. Tried to reinstall (using FF) but when it went to install it said there was a conflicting application of Chrome or Chrome Frame already on my computer and to delete that first. Well fine but I cannot find it. First tried using Control Panel..could see the Chrome icon but it could not delete it and said it was probably already deleted. Found the file in My Computer but no exe file. So now don't know what to do. Any ideas? Meantime I'm using Rockmelt...it is very like Chrome. I have trouble with both IE and FF.

My weight was up a pound today, I suppose it's just sodium. Hopefully it will be down again by Thurs which will be a week since we returned from our trip.
Went to church and then fast food...our usual shared meal. At last I know the calories/carbs. ;) I'll try and get in some veggies tonight. After lunch we did a little shopping. It is a nice sunny day but the breeze is pretty cool. I was a little chilly in church this morning.

I'm tired so will skip personals this time, sorry.

Riemontana 08-14-2011 09:26 PM

Hello all.

I have spend most of the day icing my back (thanks Karen) and feeling crabby and miserable. Ds came home and told me that a problem at his work will mean that we will not be able to go to the fair as a family this week - and his schedule is all changed around. I feel unreasonably mad at him.:( On a postive note, it is WW ice cream bar night.

Mary, sorry about your compputer troubles.

Gayle, thaose are sure cute grandbabies.

Karen31. This is a little work (not bad) but trust me, it is so worth it. shuck the corn, blanch quickly then cool under running water. Cut off the cob and store in ziplock freezer bags. It is so worth it and such good corn. Everyone will think you are a genious. If you freeze on the cob, it takes on a bit of a "cob" taste. We have always used a "fempster" veggie cutter - it makes it easier but I don't know if they even make them anymore. Anyway, good luck.

OK, I am going to play some computer games and try to get in a better mood. ttl

Rie

Hi everyone.i spent a lazy sunday.reading the paper, drinking coffee, playing with the dogs and watching old movies. chix stew simmering in the crock pot. a great way to spend a rainy day:D daisy and gizmo where playing this am,gizmo was under a blanket and all u could see was a lump moving around and daisy going beserk at him and both barking, daisy high and shrill and gizmo with this little tiny yip like the mouse that roared, then we let sadie in and it was like a 3 ring circus..so cute and intertaining. i did something amazing today and wanted to share. i parked my wheel chair in a closet and am now walking around the house using the walker but mostly hanging on to counters chair backs and tables.its the best feeling to sit in a real chair and have coffee, i feel free. more like i used to be. sry for those that are in pain,or have puter issues,or gains, hang in there (((hugs))) for all rosey

ladyinweighting 08-15-2011 09:41 AM

Hi Everyone,

VERY tired today - probably the weather - VERY dreary. This afternoon is my OB/GYN appt. to do the annual check on my ovarian cysts. I've had them for years - I'm pretty sure they are OK, but he still thinks he needs to check them every year.

My DD wants to plan a January trip. I am kind of reluctant. They are under such stress about the B&B (wanting to retire, unable to find good help) that they are doing a lot of arguing. I'm not sure I want to spend 2-3 weeks with them. I think we should wait until they can go away with more confidence that the B&B will be OK. Maybe I'm just in a cranky mood.

Wednesday is the endoscopy - still having the pain when I eat fat & having swallowing problems several times/week.

Take care Everyone,

Lynn

ellabella 08-15-2011 09:53 AM

Hello, GG’s! This chickie has been pretty busy all weekend long – and it went by far too fast! Little IzzieBee is home and doing well. I’ve been cooking for everybody because dd’s mil came up from Rhode Island to “help out”, which she does by sitting on a chair in the living room with her feet up on an ottoman busily pecking away at her laptop. Taking care of business, you think? Nope. The woman is a year younger than I am, looks (and acts) 20 years older, and has been on disability for about five years now. She does absolutely nothing but sit. Okay. I’m shutting myself up, now. (It just annoyed me to see her with her plate piled high with my pork roast, roasted sweet & white potatoes, spinach, corn on the cob, homemade apple sauce with cranberries, and corn bread yesterday. She ate it in the living room and left her plate on the coffee table for someone else to pick up and wash.) Fooey! Speaking of eating, though, I am STILL on plan and have lost 10 pounds!!!!!!
I’m back at work this morning for three weeks, and then will be out again for ds’s wedding over the Labor Day weekend. (Hoping to lose at least another 5 pounds in the meantime.) I’m feeling very much in a countdown, now – not just for the wedding, but I’m going to apply for my social security on Sept 1st so that I can begin collecting in January. I’m planning to continue working until my birthday in April, though. Then, DONE, except for some consulting stuff, which I can do on my own schedule and hours. YAY. In October – over the Columbus Day weekend - my best friend, whom I only get to see a couple of times a year, and I are meeting half-way (She lives in Richmond, VA) somewhere around Lancaster, PA, and spending a long weekend together shopping, eating out, and talking, talking, talking….I’m looking forward to it. Then Thanksgiving, Christmas, and one more winter commute to get through before I can pack it in. Seems like a long time, but I know it won’t be.
Oh, Rosey! How fabulous is THAT? You’re getting your own self back! I’m so, so happy for you! Just keep plugging away like you have been, and you’ll soon be dancing!
Rie/Val – I’m so sorry about your back pain. I’ve been plagued with back pain a few times in my life, and it’s no joke. I seem to have a flare up just a couple of times a year now – no warning, just one morning go to leap out of bed (okay, crawl out…) and practically fall on my face because my back hurts so bad. Usually lasts a day or 2 and then goes away for another five or six months. I have no idea what the cause is, and it doesn’t happen often enough for me to look for a diagnosis. Sounds like the icing is about the best solution – that, and staying in your most comfortable position. Feel better soon, you hear?
Mary, that’s why I don’t weigh myself too often – that up and down fluctuation of a few pounds, even when you don’t eat a thing off-plan. It just discourages me, even though I know it’s just about temporarily retaining fluid. I hope you got a good night’s rest!
Gayle, you have a truly beautiful family! Thanks so much for sharing the pics! That dgd of yours is just precious!
MustangK – dh and I did some house-peeping on Friday! It was fun, and it’s helping us kind of get a feel for what’s out there, so that when I retire and we get ready to make the change, we’ll be sure about what we want and where we want it to be.
Be safe in those storms, K3! I’m glad to hear that you’re doing so well – don’t want you blown away after working so hard to get back on your feet!
Lynn, I think it’s probably okay for you to take it easy for ONE day! I swear, I could NEVER keep up your schedule!!! I know that “if you don’t use it, you lose it”, and I’m willing to do some brisk walking, honest. But as for all the rest – and all the training and such – nope. I’m just far too lazy and good-for-nuttin’ ;) . I sure hope they get to the bottom of your health problems. Oh, the kids. No, you're not just being irritable or cranky or anything like that. It's no fun to be around your kids when they're bickering with each other. Maybe by January, things will be more settled though? I know how much you enjoy traveling with them.
Bobbi – it sounds like egg white could very well do some good, and I plan to keep it in mind. Thanks!
PT – I see lil’ IzzieBee every day, Isil be danged. I exchange courtesies with the fool; not a word more. Yesterday, I fed the multitude – dd3 came over with the twinnies and her dh & dd. On Saturday, I made pasta sauce with turkey meatballs and turkey sweet Italian sausage and cooked up a pot of spaghetti – brought it next door along with garlic bread and chicken salad sandwiches on bulkie rolls for later on. Otherwise, dd wouldn’t be eating enough (and she’s breast feeding) because Isil and mil don’t know enough to go to a grocery store or even attempt to put together a meal for anybody. Those two would just live off take out junk.
I seem to have developed a sore throat and a touch of laryngitis. Just in time to get back to work. Tsk. Well, at least I didn’t have it last week, and was able to hold and admire IzzieBee all I wanted.
Marie – My horn use is a constant subject of discussion between dh and I. He is a very calm and unruffled human being. I, on the other hand, am EASILY ruffled (as I guess you’ve noticed) and feel compelled to let other drivers know when they’re driving poorly. Surprising how many poor drivers there are out there, you know? And they all seem to be traveling the same roads as me! :?:
Freda – hiya! Come back and chat when you have a chance! (I always look forward to your posts). Have a good week!
So, Nancy, is the colonoscopy over with now? (Hope you didn’t eat any red popsicles!!!)
Well, hello and have a good day to all those that I’ve not mentioned – I’ve got to get back to work now. Sayonara!

Good Morning!

Well, my dr is out of the office today so I will head to the walk in clinic this morning. I seriously can't handle this anymore.:( I don't think that I can move well enough to drive) so I will have ds drive me because he is off work today.

He was really tired last night after working 9 in a row and I feel a little bad that I was irritable with him. They are saying that they will make him the manager of this new store as soon as he passes 6 weeks of probation. I should be happy, and I am, but it is going to be a lot of responsibility for very little money - the typical retail situation. Ds has this easy temperament that he just goes along and never gets upset. Last night, I was agitated because he was really calm and appeared unconcerned that child care for the week had now been messed up and our family plans were gone. I think I was being unreasonable but I just couldn't help it. So, this morning on his only day off, I am letting him sleep for a while before he has to take me into town.

Rosey I am so happy for you! You Rock!:carrot::carrot::carrot::D Most of us don't appreciate the freedom of movement that you are now experiencing. Did I miss something? your ticker is at 106? WOW.

Lynn, Sorry that you don't feel well. I hope your appointment goes well. I spent years ignoring my health and now that I am taking care of myself I get really tired of all the dr appointments. Don't you? Hopefully, your kids will be in a better space by January. Being around people who are bickering or tense is not fun.

Gayle, hope you have a good day at work.

Karen31, Did you take the house off the market?

Karenfl, don't blow away. I watch the storms in fl with new attention now. Keep on getting better!

Lyn and Freda, hope you had a fun weekend. Looking forward to hearing about it.

Koala, how are things with you?

Mary, sorry about the pound. It will melt away along with the dang water that caused it. I just know that you are headed for a whoooosh!

ds is up. Off to the day.

Good Morning. WOW!! I can't believe I slept until 10:30 this morning!! I did get up and let the girls outside at 7:00 but went and laid back down on the bed and the next thing I knew it was 10:30! A pretty nice day here and only 79 degrees right now It is only supposed to get up to 89 today and then tomorrow and the next three days we are getting thunderstorms again. At least we haven't had to add water to the pool but it has made the temp. of the water really cold!

Lynn, good luck with your Dr. appts. Let us know. I don't blame you for not being too entusiastic about traveling with someone who is so stressed that they make it not so much fun! Maybe things will turn around for them soon.

Zoe! WOW!!! 10 pounds! That is fantastic! You really need to be proud of yourself. I need to find that commitment again! Congrats. Sorry about your sore throat but glad you were able to spend so much time with Izzie. My grandchildren are all out in Colorado and I never did get to spend much time with them, even when they were little. The son was always going through "Stuff". Summer before last though we had our youngest grandson here for about a month and that was nice. He enjoyed the pool and I felt that the money I put in to getting it cleaned up was well worth it just for him. Our older two grandsons(brothers) are out there too. The first one we didn't get to see from the time they were 2 years and the other was 4 months, up until about 4 years ago. There was a nasty break up with their Mom and our son so we ended up being the ones that hurt the most. But it was wonderful when one day out of the blue the oldest one called me on the phone and I heard, Hi Grandma, this is Travis. WOW! They are now 17 and 15! So hang on to all those moments you can and don't let ANYBODY get in your way--- they grow up way too fast!!!

Rie, I hope your Dr. appt. goes well and you can get some relief from the pain. Back pain is so darn miserable! Please keep us updated. And I know your son probably knows that you weren't really snapping AT him, but TO him because of the pain. Just give him and extra hug!

Well, my morning is competely gone so I guess I'd better get busy and do something before the afternoon is gone too!

Hello to everyone else and hope you all have wonderful days!!

maryea 08-15-2011 03:05 PM

I haven't done so well recently on my eating plan. Made the mistake of buying some WW ice cream bars...thought I could handle them but no, I'm still not ready. So my weight is now up almost 3 lbs but I still hopefully have time to straighten out before my weekly weigh-in. I just have to get back on track...was doing so well and I don't like this.

Zoe, I used to have issues with the scale but no more. I take it in stride now knowing it will flucuate no matter how I eat and when I have been eating wrong, I simply use it as a reminder to be more careful so it is just a tool to me now. But whatever works for you and obviously what you are doing IS working! Congrats on the 10# lost!! I find it really hard to get 10# off ...I do well and almost get there then mess up as I've done recently and back up I go. So I admire your perseverance! You will look great at the wedding! :D

We went to the gym this morning....good to be back at it. We had a substitute instructor in our stretch class and she did different things which we enjoyed. In the beginning, she had us stretch at the bar and I really liked that. Then I did the bike 15 min, treadmill 14 min and used three weight machines.

It's a very nice day and while outside I noticed my lilac bush is in bloom again! Jut the top part but there are more blooms this time and it smells really nice. I'm so glad we got it...my dh wasn't so sure but now he is glad too!

Rie - the first pound was water but the other almost 2# is because I've been overeating. When I overeat I tend to binge and I can gain really fast, so right now I'm upset with myself but I hope to get myself back on track now.

Karen31 - We are in a similiar situation. We have four children scattered about in three states so we seldom see our gc. The ones here in WA we rarely see due to family conflict and the ones in other states we see once or twice a year. Our 11 year old gs is supposed to come here the end of this month for a few days.

Well, I have much to do so better get off this computer and get to it. Hope everyone has a good day!

Hello all,

Just a brief checkin from my dr appointment. First, the good news: I will be better in 2 - 3 days. The bad news: it is muscle spasms caused by a lupus flare. It has caused an acute arthritis inflamation in my spine. No weight lifting for at least a week and only gentle excercise. I am stuck at home on rest for today and tomorrow. Trying to have a positive attitude. Once again, I am reminded that I can't cure Lupus with weight loss. Bummer. :(

Be Back Later.

Hi everyone,

Worked the weekend, as you probably all know by now. when I'm not on here it's usually because i'm working. 12 hours mean I don't get home untill too late to cane about anything except a shower and couch. The weather here is sooo wonderful! Mid 70's with a nice breeze. all week! I have even been outside doing yard stuff. I might even go for a bike ride this evening. At least take a walk. I did laundry and hung it outiside this morning. I always hang my bed linen outside. I just did it the other day, but I used some kind of fabric softner that I had just bought and found I couldn't stand the scent!

Z, congratulations!! 10 lb.? Wow, that is so awsome! If you think that isn't a lot, try carrying 10 lb.s of something around for an hour or 2. You are going to look smashing at the wedding. Why did the other MIL come to help if she didn't intend to help? sounds like they just got another person to take care of.

Rie, Oh, I'm sorry you're feeling bad. I'm sure exercise and eating better won't cure lupus, but I bet it make the symptoms and the instances of outbreaks less. We can't always make things go away, but we can make them so much better. Feel better. I'm glad the ice helps you. It just makes my muscles tense up. Heat is the only thing that helps my back. We're all different, and isn't that a good thing!

Mary, Wow, I knew there were some Lilac bushes that bloomed more than once. I really want to get one. Once a year just isn't enough.

Karen, it's always hard where there is a bad divorce and the kids are used as collateral. I guess the parents are more concerned for themselves than they are for the kids. there is nothing like a grandmothers love, and your ex-DIL robbed them of that for a long time.

Lynn, good luck with all those Dr. tests!

Nancy, is the colonoscopy over with? The prep is the bad part. the reason you aren't supposed to have "red" stuff is because it can look like blood.

Rosie, that is amazing! I knew you would get there, but isn't it wonderful when you actually do? And the best is yet to come. As you continue to lose you will be able to do so many more things.

Freda

Hey GGs,
Had a nice weekend, hated to see it end. Even though I no longer “hold down a job”, I still hate Mondays. I guess because getting up with SO, & getting him off to work, sort of seems like a job. But, at least I get to go back to sleep afterwards, so I shouldn’t complain. His colonoscopy went well. Quite painless for me, but then I wasn’t the one having it! Actually, he said it was painless for him too. Everyone at the dr.’s office was very nice, & they explained everything. They even showed me where to wait, & told me how long it would take, & when they would come back & get me. It was actually a very pleasant experience (& SO says so too), which I think is very unusual for a medical procedure! Rie, if by the “cleanse thing” you meant taking all the laxatives, SO did have to do that (I didn’t do that part, because I didn’t think it would be good to have both of us running to the bathroom every 10 minutes, at the same time, even though we have two!). He had never taken laxatives before (that shocked me), but he said it wasn’t bad, & he didn’t have any cramps (I always do, with laxatives), & he had everything “out” within a few hours. I think I would like to do the “cleanse thing” sometime though, & SO said he might like to do it every 6 months or so.

Freda, I did know to stay away from red popsicles, & anything else with red dye, I assumed. Thank you for telling me why. The instructions weren’t too clear about that (just mentioned no red Gatorade), but my mom had a colonoscopy a few months ago, & she told me she couldn‘t have anything red. But, since banana popsicles are my favorite, & SO’s too, that wasn’t a problem. And, I was down a pound for the week, to139.4 lbs. (Yay! - the 130‘s), but I don’t know if it will stay gone.

Yay! to you Rie, for the pound you deleted! I’m so sorry your back is giving you so much pain, and that it will be 2-3 days before you get some relief. It’s sad that weight loss doesn’t cure everything, but, like Freda said (sort of), it helps. And, you’re entitled to be irritable when you’re in pain, & I’m sure your DS understood.

Zoe, 10 pounds deleted already! Yay! for you too! I guess now we know why your ISIL is such a pain! He gets it from his mom! Sorry you & your DD are having to put up with her, & him!

Rosey, you just continue to chalk up those NSVs! And the scale ones too! WTG! Did you think, back in Nov., that you would have come this far, this fast? You’re amazing!

Lynn, sorry you’re feeling under the weather. Hope you’re back to your old, energetic self soon. I agree with Zoe, you can afford to take it easy for a day. Good luck with those appts.

Gayle, I enjoyed your pics. Those dresses are beautiful, & so is your DD, & the DGKs (even the four-legged one)!

KarenFL, glad you’re doing so well. I think it’s really sweet that your DH is keeping a watchful eye on you. I’m sure you gave him quite a scare! And with all us GGs wishing those hurricanes away from you, I just know they won’t come anywhere near your part of FL!

Mary, hope you got those computer problems worked out. And I also think that losing weight slowly seems to be best for keeping it off, at least that’s how it’s seemed to work for me. You’ve been doing so good, I’m sure a little slip-up won’t have a lasting effect. Hang in there!

KarenMO, good for you on getting to sleep late. I think the cooler temps definitely help with that.

Donna, I’ve been thinking I can feel fall in the air too. I am sooo ready! And, I’ll definitely be sending positive thoughts your way for Granny/Mom’s surgery on Thurs.

Well, I know I’ve missed lots of you, but I need to get outta here for now. Before I go, I’m going to put up a pic of the food I ate yesterday for my pig-out meal. I debated with myself about showing it to y’all, because it’s one thing to tell you about what a pig I can be, but it’s different letting you see for yourselves. But, since I’m constantly amazed I can actually eat a meal like this every week, & still not regain (as long as I stay pretty much OP the rest of the time), I guess I will.

It’s been a busy weekend and week too. Does it seem to any of you also, that when social events pop into your life, that they all come at once? We had 4 cookouts this week. First was for my DH’s New Horizons Band (I think I may have mentioned this band – for over 50’s who want to play an instrument again – my DH is playing first clarinet after a 40 year break from it.). Anyway that was last Monday night, then a Red Cross cookout on Thursday, (my DH volunteers as a mental health counselor), then a post wedding celebration for some friends who were married in the Caribbean this winter..This was for local friends and family. It was at this cool place called "Bass Hole" on the CC Bay. I took lots of pics. Then yesterday one more cookout..the hostess for this one is a professional cook and needless to say it was fantastic. So as for the scale- I am avoiding it for the time being!

I also got to go Kayaking with a friend on the Bass River. Saw an osprey nest and family. I think a kayak is in my future.

Rei – Hope the flare-up passes quickly. My sis has lupus too – it can be a frustrating challenge!

Rosie – CONGRATS on the wheel chair retirement!!

Z – 10 POUNDS!! Wow. You’re an inspiration. Sorry about the lazy MIL.

Nancy – Glad the SO’s colonoscopy went fine.

Lynn – hope you feel better soon. We’re getting all that rain today – not as much as you though. I actually have a sweatshirt on – fall is in the air.

Hi Freda – glad you’re back and the weather there is cooler for you!

Love those GD pics, Gayle!

No hurricanes for you, KarenFL!!

Hope you computer is better, Mary.

Well, I’m typed out. I’ll try and post later this week.

Helllooo GGs

Busy work and busy otherwise have conspired to limit my time on the 'puter, so haven't been on here for a while now. We had some warm(ish!) weather over the weekend - so I took the opportunity to wash all my bedding - doona, doona cover, blankets, everything, and dry them in the sun - plus I've got new pillows. Hoping all this will help my allergies which are giving me gyp with the onset of spring. I've had two nights of good sleep, so I'm feeling a bit less like I am trying to run through treacle :dizzy:

Lyn - lots of fun outings :) I'd love to go kayaking, maybe one day. It's a constant challenge balancing social activities with not straying too far off plan, one at which I have variable success :o

NCNancy - WTG getting in the 130s - awesome :D The Chinese meal looks derlish! Whatever you're doing is working for you, and that's what matters.

Freda - it's nice having your bed linen smell like sunshine, isn't it? :)

Rie - sorry to hear that you have been suffering from a flare up of your lupus. It might not be curable, but imagine how it would be if you hadn't made all those lifestyle changes. Hang in there, chickadee. LOL at your and your DS experience with the wii - that would have been proof positive to your son that his caring and cooking was really helping you to keep a healthy lifestyle.

Mary - you're keeping yourself in the ball park by keeping a close eye on your eating. You will be back on track soooon

Mustang Karen - nice to hear that the weather is becoming less extreme, but sad that your pool is getting cold. That's such a nice story that you are now back in contact with your DGSs. Yay on the 19 pounds - sounds like they have been well and truly deleted.

Z - WTG on the 10 pounds - that is a fantastic achievement :D Hope your sore throat didn't develop into anything worse. Maybe the cause was biting your tongue to stop yourself being less than civil to the MIL? Unbelievable ... I think I would have dressed myself in a maid's costume and DH in a butler outfit - just to be sarcastic  Your future plans sound so exciting - lots to look forward to in the next phase of your life/career - there is no way that it could be considered retirement ;)

Lynn - hope all goes well with the OB/GYN appointment and endoscopy. I hope you get to have a relaxing fun holiday with your DD. Good to hear that the new shoes are helping with your foot problems.

Rosey - how wonderful that you have improved your mobility, that's such a gift. Hope DH gets a diagnosis soon. That road trip sounded fun - the beautiful puppies sound like they bring you much joy!

Gayle - gorgeous piccies of your grandies, DD and dear puppy :) Hope your headaches have improved.

Karen3 - so nice that DH is so caring. Here's hoping those hurricanes stay away. Yep, I'm another one on the "not feeling in top form" list - allergies have hit me for six, they are really debilitating.

Donna - glad that you are happy at the changing seasons! LOL at SamCat not helping around the house - you do realise that we are their staff? :D Keeping you and Granny/Mom in my thoughts. It's tough whatever their decision - and all you can do is support their wishes. The egg recipe sounds yummo - it's a bit like the fritatta that I make, basically a pastryless quiche.

Bobbi - hope you are going OK

Marie - they have good peaches in Thailand??? That's the last place I would think of finding nice peaches :dizzy: Hope you are going OK with less time with DH. It's good there's a positive of more time to do your own thing.

Wannabe - *hello*

Toodles!

glynne 08-16-2011 08:41 AM

Good morning GG's,

One day down ~ three to go. Actually got out on time yesterday, so that was nice.

We are on a streak of heat here. We have set a record for days on a row of temps in the triple digits. Today will be the 16th day in a row like that.

I have been waking up before the alarm for several mornings in a row. So, since I had a few minutes of extra time ~ I walked on the treadmill while listening to an audio book. It was only 10 minutes, but it's a start.

Ok, better go do some getting ready for work.

Hope you all have a good day.

Take care

Karen31 08-16-2011 09:44 AM

Gayle, We have you beat on the heat record--- we went 28 days straight of over 100 degrees! Good job on the treadmill. I really enjoy walking on the treadmill too, wish I would do it more often!

Wow, Nancy--congrats on being in the 130's-- Even when I had to do all that to get ready for a colonoscopy I didn't lose anything!! Bummer!!

Lyn, you kayaking sounds fun but I would be to chicken to try it.

Well, I wanted to pop in here for a minute before the day gets away from me! At least I was up before 8:00 am this morning, but it sure felt good sleeping late yesterday.

Have a great day!

Regarding your post Bobbi :D

ellabella 08-16-2011 11:27 AM

Y’know, Bobbi, every time I hear of a jogger – or a runner, or any kind of athlete, really – dropping dead of a heart attack, I find myself questioning all of this fitness stuff. Maybe at heart, I’m a tortoise, and have some solid statistics (the ones you gave) for why I am one…. <ducking> I know, I know GG’s – I really must change my way of thinking about this. Did I mention in an earlier post that dh & I did a trek around the lake on Saturday? Yes, I did indeed WALK a few miles!!!! And, we made a pact to do so more often – but it’s been raining and icky ever since. ONE real advantage to the way I’ve been eating for the past several weeks, though, is that I’m not having heartburn or acid reflux or dare I say it….gas :o …any more. Tends to suggest that my digestive issues over the past few months have been related to eating wrong, and eating too much. (I knew that). Time to reconcile my eating to what my system will best tolerate over the long term and permanently rather than just dieting like crazy for a certain event. Hopefully, I’ll be down another 5 pounds by the wedding over Labor Day, but I really, really intend to continue well beyond the wedding and keep *deleting* pounds until I get to a place where I’m comfortable in my own skin. Nancy, you’ve just really inspired me, getting into the 130’s and all. I can’t get down that far – I look TOO thin and haggard at that weight, but I’m a couple of inches taller than you, so for me, 140 – 145 is about ideal.
It’s been such an icky couple of days hereabouts – not just wet, but chilly, too. I started with a sore-ish throat on Sunday, and now I’m hoarse, and my throat is still tight and scratchy-feeling. No respiratory issues until I lie down on my pillow at night, and then I do some coughing and my nose clogs up. VERY annoying, and I need some uninterrupted sleep right about now. I’m wanting to just close my eyes and drift off sitting right here at my desk!
MustangK – I never realized that it got that hot in MO! Good thing you’ve got that pool to cool off in! What’s up with your real estate situation? Is it looking like you’ll be staying where you are? Honey, if I had your place – and the pool – I wouldn’t even think about moving anywhere! Your place seems just about perfect to me!
Gayle, I’m on day 2 (of the work week) with 3 more to go. On the one hand, I’m in no rush for ds’s wedding, but on the other hand, I WOULD like my work week to go by as quickly as possible. I guess I can’t have it both ways, can I? I wonder what it would be like to work at a job that you actually can’t wait to get to every day? Does anybody have that – or did you have it before retiring? I think I did once, but not now for sure.
Nice to see your post again, Koala – I just LOVE some of your terminology – doona, doona cover – is that like a duvet? And being “gypped” by allergies…interesting and imaginative, when you think of how “gyp” is used in the States, and it’s origins.
Lyn, we have been contemplating the idea of getting a kayak, too. Looks like great fun. What are the chances of dh & I turning it over and drowning ourselves do you suppose ?
Ooops…gotta run! BBL to finish up!

Riemontana 08-16-2011 11:50 AM

Good Morning Goldens!

I am feeling a little better this morning so I was thinking about stopping the pills and getting on with it. However, I want to actually get well so I took them and I am going to comply with another day of rest. I guess I will be a netflix girl today.:D

We got all the grain combined and didn't lose any to the storms. And, it was all accepted with only one load needing to be cleaned. Explanation: We raise malting barley for Budweiser. The grain needs to meet very strict guidelines for moisture and protein content, and for not having too much debris. (debris is most often rabbit or deer poop) Cleaning a load costs about $1000.That is good news for my Dad. I am happy for him because he has been really stressing over the stock market. He feels poor these days. He must be feeling better because they left yesterday to spend a couple days at a casino resort in Riverton, Wy. They will be back tomorrow night.

Zoe, wow! 10 pounds? You are doing so well. Sorry about Isil and mil. Hopefully she won't stay too long to "help".

Bobbi, "!'m retired, go around me". :D I love it.

Karen31 I am so jealous of your sleeping in ability. I sure wish I could do that. I am up soon after the sun most days. Our temperature has been in the mid-80's here for a while. It is very pleasant. Daily rain showers have been putting a damper on our fair but it is keeping the crops looking good.

Nancy I think your plate looks wonderful. You sound like you are in a much better space these days. And, the 130's??? Wow, I don't think I will ever get there.

Gayle, I am so proud of you for getting in some treadmill time. The time doesn't matter at this point, just the fact that you are doing it. I hope you feel proud.

Lynn, Kayaking? I haven't done that in years. I would like to go white water rafting this year but I don't think I will get it done. You always have such great adventures.

Koala, one of the unrecognized pleasures in life is new pillows. Paired with bedding that has been dried in the sun, and bed becomes a luxury. How lovely.

Freda, once again, nice post. I always enjoy reading your comments. 12 hour shifts are really long. How many do you work in a row? Wow. My employees work 4 tens (it is a good schedule for people) but they are spent at the end.

Donna, you have a busy and stressful week ahead of you. Is Samcat allowing you to store any rest in advance?

Mary, how nice that your lilac bush blooms more than once a year! That sounds wonderful. I am sorry that you are having eating struggles. This too shall pass.

Well, sorry to anyone that I missed. I am feeling a little muzzy from the meds. Time for a nap. TTL

Rie
