Hi ladies,

Mary - a big Whoo Hoo for your success last night! You are on a roll!

Chicpanda - how cool to be able to view the manuscripts of your author! Yep, journaling is very important, imo. It's even more successful when it's done ahead of time. Something about having the plan on paper is almost like a promise to yourself.

Trish - have fun on vacation! You will be missed here.

Hello to all others.

After a weekend of being out of town, and too much to eat, I'm back OP, and feeling good. I've begun cleaning the carpets, although I wanted to wait for the rainy season to be over. Seems like it's never going to stop, though.

Have a good day!

chicpanda 05-19-2011 06:04 PM

We just heard from the mortgage lender. We have been turned down for the first program (pass the muffins.. er no hold that thought). We may be accepted for the next program. They wanted us to re submit all the documentation yet again. . So please keep the prayers and support flowing. My DD and I need it.

Official weigh in day and I have a conundrum. Which scales should I use? I guess I will choose the scales in public at my grocery story. It is tempting to use the ones at the other house, because I stand there skyclad and weigh ever so much less. <wink>

Tomorrow I will be fogging my house. sigh Living in FL is wonderful, but 6 legged critters so love it here as well. I expect to burn a few calories capturing the cats and eliminating the vermin.

Hope all is well with you folks
Coralee

maryea 05-19-2011 10:48 PM

Well, don't celebrate yet..LOL...as I did go over on the calories today! Was so mad at myself! What happened is that I received the chocolate diet drink I like so much today and I just had to have some....and I ended up drinking two glasses!! I felt SO full, don't know why I did it but I did. :o I waited for dinner until dh was finally hungry because I was so full. I had a healthy dinner....3 oz grilled tilapia, grilled asparagus, red peppers and a tiny bit of leftover potatoes which I added to the grill. I had 1 t. olive oil and a bit of oregano, salt and pepper on it. I fixed instant brown rice cooked in chicken broth for dh, but I didn't eat that. Ordinarily this would have been a great dinner but because of my afternoon snacking it made me go over. But I promise I'm back on track tomorrow as I cannot bear to gain weight again!! I'll try not to eat tonight much because I notice even when I overeat if I do it early in the evening it is doesn't affect my morning weight so much but even so I expect a slight gain. If I get too hungry tonight I will just eat a few fresh blueberries. Sure wish I'd gone to the gym today then these extra calories would be no problem. We have only been going Mon, Wed & Fri.

chicpanda 05-25-2011 05:10 PM

Gearing up for the 3 day holiday. then going on my first long vacation with my DP.. will drive down to Key West. I will be away from the computer, and from scales for 2 weeks. I plan to do a lot of swimming, so lets hope the jelly fish and sharks aren't hungry.

maryea 05-25-2011 07:31 PM

Have a good time, Coralee! I haven't been doing so well with my diet recently. Strange thing is even though I've been going over on calories and gaining, my bs has been better than ever! It always is when I drink my chocolate/vanilla milk mix as I don't eat as many other snacks that are higher carb, BUT it is kinda high in calories with the NF milk. Seems like I just can't get both right..calories and carbs. I always thought calories follow the carbs but that is not necessarily so...depends on what you eat/drink.

Hello

Hello 50+, I will be 60 in August. My name is Sue and I will be counting carbs and proteins so just looking for some support and friendship along the way. I have a lot to lose and have a goal to make a certain pants size by vacation in September. There are 13 weeks until my birthday so about 16 weeks until vacation. Going to Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone and of course, some small side trips. So looking forward to the trip and would like to wear some of the clothes I already have. Would also like to be more fit for some of the hiking.

Look forward to getting to know you all. :)

maryea 05-27-2011 01:32 PM

Welcome Sue! I count carbs and calories as I am a diabetic and trying to lose weight too. I'm also from the NW too (WA)! There are some great ladies here and hopefully we can be a support to you.

Marie 05-31-2011 11:22 AM

Yes, I've been MIA and my scale shows it. Last week I researched the HCG diet and I planned to do it, then read the full literature. The diet has documentation to it but for success it requires at lest 2.5 months of total dedication. In the 2.5 months, I have a trip to SF planned with my daughter, her b-day in July (5 day 4th of July celebration) and my 50th b-day in August (celebrating in SF at 6 Flags). So dedication to very stringent eating? Nope, can't do it. So I'm sending the kit back when it arrives today. Back to just counting calories. Yesterday was a good day. 1368 cals and that was good. Even with company. Now the harder day - day 2 of being on plan.

Hi Sue, I'm from Oregon as well and it sounds like you have some great active vacations planned. I like that you have a pants size you want to reach. Congrats on the 21 pounds you've already lost!

Mary, what is the chocolate/vanilla mix you like? I'm not much of a meat eater and am allergic to soy and peanuts. Hence my protein intake is usually pretty low. I'm always on the lookout for a protein source that doesn't taste like vitamins or dusty.

Coralee, I am jealous. Very jealous. I love the FL keys. Have a great time! And what is your chocolate diet drink?

Marie

maryea 05-31-2011 02:44 PM

Marie it is called the Ideal Chocolate Milk Diet. It is very filling and very tasty if you like sweet creamy things. My biggest concern is over drinking it since it tastes so good but so far I haven't. It fills me up so I don't want so much other stuff but it does have quite a lot of calories (180 with skim milk), so I find I have to be careful. It has a lot of protein and there are not many carbs in it so I use it to avoid eating so many other carbs. If they are healthy, I still eat some but not as much. I don't have any right now but will probably buy it again. It comes in chocolate and vanilla. There is a banner on this site and that's how I found it. The Ideal Chocolate Milk Diet site gives you ideas on how you can use it. I have a few more bad eating days with our gs here....just not being as careful, but I'm back on track today so far. Even with not being really OP, I have just basically maintained...up a few, down a few, up a few etc. :dizzy:

maryea 06-03-2011 08:49 PM

I heard about this on the news the other night but just found the link:

Great idea!

:) Hi Everyone - I haven't posted here for awhile but do read all the postings. :welcome: to the newbies, "atta girls" to those that there are less of ::cp: & to those like me that haven't lost or have gained a bit - Back at it, right?! I'm doing WW Points + & have slipped off the wagon. Had company & the points counting just flew out the window. And I find it's really hard to get back on the wagon. So yet again..........I'm back at it today. So glad to have 3FC & all the support, help, etc. TTYL

Laffalot 06-14-2011 03:43 PM

Oh :dust:

maryea 06-14-2011 03:57 PM

Just a quick message to say I'm still around, but am just busy with grandchildren. Not counting these days just trying to be careful...weight went up but is now dropping again back to where I was. The grandchildren are giving me some exercise too I guess! :-)

emaline29 06-15-2011 11:54 AM

Not been posting for a while due to poor health issues but pleased to say I have been able to maintain my weight to a degree - just a few pounds up and down. Am still not feeling too well so am not Calorie Counting or anything else for a little while till I feel a bit better.
Have set a target to start again in about 2 months time (beg Sept) and just hope that things will improve a bit by then.

WebWoman 06-16-2011 08:39 AM

Hi everyone,
Like most of you, I'm busy with graduations, parties, and getting my son moved home from college and soon off to a summer of internship in Nebraska. It's so hard to stick to a plan when there are so many balls in the air at once. I've not been sticking to the WW plan as before, but generally use their guidelines and have managed to lose a couple more pounds, mostly because I'm too busy/stressed to eat as much. Hope things settle down soon and we all can get back on track. Good luck to you all!

maryea 06-19-2011 09:40 PM

I'm back to counting both calories and carbs as the few pounds I lost have jumped back on me. I'll have to do this the rest of my life! :^: Oh, for the good old days when I could eat whatever I wanted without a thought about calories and carbs! I have to accept that those days are gone forever and just accept it like a big girl!

geoblewis 06-26-2011 02:53 AM

I have been lurking here, off and on, since I turned 50 in February. I can't seem to commit to joining your group because I don't feel 50 (whatever that's supposed to feel like). But last week, I went to see U2 in concert in L.A. and reality hit me...everyone else in the Angels Stadium was also quite middle aged. Even Bono! At one point he grabbed a hanging microphone connected to a heavy line and swang out over the crowd, briefly. He had one of those, "I'm too old for this crap!" looks on his face. I will pray for him, that he never becomes a lounge act in Vegas.

I'm coming here with all sorts of pre-conceived ideas about what 50+ women talk about in the forums...I don't like the idea of discussing what my kids are doing or suffering the after-effects of X's midlife crisis or dealing with my elderly mother. (And yet I've mentioned them all here!) I don't knit or crochet or quilt (but I know how to do them all), I don't garden. I've lived my whole life caring for other people and right now I don't feel like slowing down. I want to LIVE! And that's why I'm working hard to lose the weight and get into shape, finally!

So, I'm here because I can't bear to read about those little 20-somethings and their five-day plateaus, or how someone muscled through losing 100 lbs in a year only to find out they're still in their early 30s. I want to melt my a$$ off and it's taking forever! I am so angry that as my belly fat slowly melts, my excess skin is puddling in front and my waist measurement won't decrease. My doctor won't even talk to me about the effects of PCOS causing difficulties for weight loss because I no longer want to have anymore children.

I'm here to find help trouble-shooting why it's taking me so long to lose weight, or to learn how to accept that this is my lot at 50+. I've tried every other sort of weight loss method, short of surgery (not going there!) and have accepted that it really is all about cutting calories. I eat really clean, very minimal with the processed foods, no refined carbs. In fact, I get most of my carbs from non-starchy vegetable. I eat as organic as possible, and source my protein from wild-caught or grass-fed meat. I love to cook and I am a food snob.

May I come here, soak up your wisdom and find comfort in your sisterhood? I promise to be opinionated and saucy, but I won't offer advice unless asked directly. I believe we all have to find our own way in this. And our full and busy lives get in the way of our efforts, a lot. I will happily offer up encouragement and friendly challenges, because I need it too. And I need to be accountable to as many people as I can be, because it helps me stay on track.

And now I need to go to bed, because I still need sleep. And I'm burning calories without even trying. Awesome!

WebWoman 06-26-2011 10:12 PM

Welcome Georgia!

Glad you're no longer a lurker! Hey, none of us feel like we belong in the 50's group, at least not me. I think that deep down most of us have the same personality we had in our 30's and can't for the life of us figure out what happened to the mirror! The idea of knitting in a rocking chair when I could be power walking (or power washing my deck for that matter) is inconceivable, unless knitting is my favorite hobby of course!
I've tried several crazy diets during my weight loss journey, and the basic facts remain - calories in must be less that calories expended to lose weight. Although I love the new weight watchers plan, I will also start counting calories this week to see how my food choices jive with my calorie allocation (I'll give myself 1500 IF I also walk 4 miles a day). The more I move, the faster I lose. As long as the scale keeps going in the right direction, I can be patient with it.

Do you have an upcoming wedding, reunion, or other event you're looking forward to attending? That can be another motivator. Good luck, and glad you're with us!

geoblewis 06-27-2011 01:26 AM

At the end of July I do have a high school reunion. It is giving me a sense of urgency to lose as much weight as possible by then, but the last time I saw most of those people, I weighed a little less than half of what I weigh now. I know I'm not going to lose enough to be happy with myself within the framework of going to a reunion, but I would be thrilled to drop up to 20 lbs by then. I would be thrilled to lose 10 too!

I really struggle with cutting calories. I do great most of the day, but as I close in on the end of the day, my appetite really ramps up. Giving in to the cravings and hunger...frankly, I can't tell if it's somatic or limbic hunger. I've been working on not eating when I'm truly not interested in it, and I'm doing very well on it. But the evenings are tough. Tonight, I'm struggling to stay out of the refrigerator and pantry until I'm ready for bed. I ate a late brunch earlier today, and very nearly all my calories in one meal. I had a bowl of Miracle Noodles in chicken broth with lemon juice this evening, trying to fill the void. I drank a lot of tea and water. I had a long nap, so I'm not sleepy now. I'm going to be up for awhile. Mentally, logically, I don't want to eat. Somatically, I'm feeling hunger! I know what I usually do...I snack until the feeling passes but end up overeating. I'm trying to hold out for 20 minutes to let the feeling pass. I'm keeping myself busy. But if I can't get on top of this hunger, I'm going to go for crackers and sardines, because I know nothing "filling" will do it for me.

But I'm motivated to hold off on eating. I just weighed myself. I weigh the same as I did this morning. I believe that will show a loss by morning. That's what's keeping me holding on.

I'll let you know how the night went...thanks for the welcome!

chicpanda 07-06-2011 10:32 AM

A big shout out to Georgia. I so identify with every thing you wrote including turning 50. I really don't feel like 65 .... but what does 65 feel like, eh?

I have been away from the boards trying to maintain my sanity. My mortgage lender, who is shall be unnamed.. but does resemble a boa, is still squeezing me.. Gads ladies, this has been ongoing since 2008 and I am so tired of stuffing my face over it. (ahem!) wonder what excuse I will use when this issue is resolved.

We are kinda quiet right now.. looks like our summer business is affecting us all. How is everyone?

chicpanda 07-09-2011 10:57 PM

Okay now I know what i am going to count: sticking to my food plan. Have been on the plan again beginning 1Jul11. I am the puffy ankles are gone/no high salt diet at the moment.

chicpanda 07-17-2011 02:24 PM

Oh dear, it looks like I am talking to me. However. I got serious with diet on July first and am happy to report that my blood glucose has dropped from averaging in the 160's to the 120's. this works ODAT

Jane 07-17-2011 04:33 PM

Hi again Counters,
I've been AWOL for awhile, but have been reading the posts. I've also been following the BFC plan, which is a low carb, VERY low sugar plan which seems to be working for me. Since I still have to count something (15 g of sugar/day, 120 g of complex carbs/day) I'll pop in from time to time and let you know hot it's working. The good thing about this plan is that after you cut out most sugar and ALL artificial sugar, food cravings disappear. You still get hungry, but it's not the craving for junk - especially in the evening - that I had previously. Anyway, it's easy to follow and I like it. Have a good day and stay cool!

I have found the same thing. I have cut out sugar and most artificial sweetners..My cravings for sweets have dropped.
I am going to do a fasting test and hope my gluscose count is low!

Have a good day counters!
