Buggy Polenta?
If there are little black specks in your Polenta does it mean it is buggy?
Lynn |
I think it does.
I've only had bugs in mac & cheese |
Is it fine, coarse?
Black specks are normal in the whole/coarse ground stuff (from Bob's Red Mill or similar), not in the superfine kind. |
I found a bug in an air pocket of one of my tortilla's last week. So nasty.. I thought it was a flax seed at first, until I saw the legs. :barf:

I hate bugs.

Lynn - I would throw it out and buy new, just in case. I'm thinking I wouldn't be able to enjoy it once I cooked it.

I lived in a third world country for a while (8 years) and we had a saying:
The first year when you find a fly in your tea you throw out the tea The second year, you fish out the fly and drink the tea. The third year, you drink the fly. I think it's all relative. If you can, throw it out. If you can't, cooking it will kill the bugs and it's extra protein. (ewww) |
Did you read the ingredient label? It could be black pepper or just the natural color variation in corn (it's not all yellow). Also, if the flecks are confined to a small area then it might be a contaminant, but if the flecks are evenly distributed, it's more likely to be a legitimate ingredient.
