PT, I DON'T get it, either!!!! No matter how well-informed I am in general, AND how well (I think) I've become informed about my own body, I STILL can go way overboard with my eating...probably not to the point of making myself sick, as I know some do...but still overeating to the point of ridiculousness. I've simply NEVER been able to identify with people (like you, Bobbi) who can be satisfied with just a little bit of something they like. Yeah, Mary I'm SO with you about one serving just not being enough...and that's why for me, it's usually better to just avoid those "bad" carbs altogether rather than try to limit my eating of them. And there, of course, is the crux of my problem when it comes to weight...if I could just avoid food altogether, I'd do better than trying to cut down and limit myself. :?:
Sooooo, I'm hoping against hope that these hypnosis tapes that I've ordered will help me to recognize when I'm full and send my brain a signal that I've had enough. Well, today's your "back on track" day, PT...I'll be thinking of you while we BOTH work at exercising some self-discipline....:^: DH has gone up to New Hampshire for three days to help out friends with some carpentry projects. Yay. Last night, I swear I had the best sleep I've had since giving over the "guest" room to my son back at the beginning of June. I woke up this morning sprawled diagonally across the bed, and for the first time in nearly two months, felt well-rested and not wanting to hit the snooze alarm. I know that my sleep is disturbed two or three times every night when DH is in the same bed because of his snoring or just moving around, or getting up to use the bathroom. NOTHING woke me up last night, and it was heavenly! I'm quite sure that these little breaks are good for any relationship.:D Okay, my favorite authors. Well, a lot have actually been named, but I would also say anything by John Lescroart - if you like a good, well-written mystery. And if you decide to give him a try, start with one of his earliest books, because his main character, Dismas (The good thief) Hardy is an interesting character study, and with each new book, Dismas is a little older, and his life has moved forward. Of course you know I love Diana Gabaldon...and then there's Ann Rivers Siddons, Marge Piercy (If you haven't ever read her "Gone to Soldiers", you are missing out on the read of a lifetime!). I buy every Harlen Coben book as it comes out in paperback, and Wally Lamb. "She's Come Undone" (by Wally Lamb) is terrific, and so are his others. Well, Bobbi....you've got quite a list, now. We'll expect book reports on them all! Oh - and I've started "South of Broad" by Pat Conroy, and am absolutely loving it! Congrats on the book haul, the bridge championship and the two pounds gone, Karen3! Looks like you're on a roll, girl! Bootsie, I'd love to make my own salsa - do you suppose, since the way you make it is to cook it, that I could freeze it in serving sized containers? I've never done any canning, and don't really think I want to. (Lazy, here). But if I could cook and then freeze it, like I do with my soups and pasta sauces and such, I'd be a happy camper. I bet you're glad to have that yard sale over with, Rosey. I don't think I could be so brave... Freda, one of the things I really always insisted on doing with my kids...and now, gratifyingly, they do it with theirs...is reading from an early age. My daughter - and her husband and little girl - have been reading to the twinnies since they were just a few months old, and newly home from NICU. In fact, I think I recall their reading to them when they were IN the NICU!! Now, of course, they have their favorite books..."Goodnight Moon", naturally...and a whole pile of others that they go to the toy chest and pull out whenever they hear the word "read". Good for Kenzie! I love to hear about kids reading...I just hope that the language doesn't eventually deteriorate to the abbreviated forms of text messaging...just one MORE reason, why I dislike those multi-function phones! I trust you're okay, Isabella? Hi Lynn, and have a good day, GGs wherever you may be! :grouphug: Z |
Good Morning Girls,
I do hope today is nice than yesterday. It was one of those dreary days, hot, damp, sun behind the clouds. I hate it when the house is damp. Z, Yeah for you, Some time alone. And for getting a good nights sleep. I was still up at 4:30 this morning. Just couldn't get to sleep. I tried the steps thing. maybe i was getting it wrong. I have to check it out again. Rosie, Those puppies are so cute! We do love babies. Any thing tiny just brings out the mothering instinct. Bootsie, I am not ambitious, but I do love homemade salsa. It's healthy and filling, and you can adjust the heat. I make a bean dip that I like with the baked chips too, with black beans and corn. Mary, I'm one of the lucky ones I suppose. I can have just one piece or serving of something great and be happy. One great piece of chocolate with my tea in the afternoon, one small piece of dessert. Do you eat fast? It takes the brain 1/2 hour to register that you are full, so if you are eating too fast you're full way before the brain can recognize it. Looks like you, me and Karen3 are nurses. Ever noticed how many ove weight nurses there are? I think it's, like you said, rushing to eat when you can, and the stress. Glad to hear that your hubby is coming alone well. I'm a rehab nurse, and the more fit you were before the accident, the faster you're going to recover. Karen3, You're set for a long time with all those books. I usually get mine from the library. I would have to have a spare room to house all of them if I didn't. Jo, I go online to order my books from the library too. We have a new system where you can order books from all over, and thankfully, it is still free. I love listening to books too. It's much easier to work with a good book. Lynn, Hope you are well. I think that the classes are over soon, right? Isabella, miss you. Have fun with that baby. Donna, you've had lots of company this year! And while that is always fun, it also interupts your routine. And I know I am a creature of habit. And while company is there you don't feel that you can serve them "diet" food. Just do the best you can. This too shall end. Freda |
Good Morning, All...
It'd take a lifetime to get through all those authors! I've read many of them (include Nelson DeMille on the list, too). I had LASIK a dozen years ago, happily... but now that I'm a crone, the presbyopia is seemingly totally resistant to correction, and I can read just for a very short time before I have headaches and eye strain. Big bummer, believe me! I got my box of Outlander books yesterday! I think the relatives are leaving today. Regardless, I'm snug in my nest, am finished with visiting, and am getting myself back on track. I hope I can remember how crappy I can make myself feel. Remind me, lovely ladies, regularly!! PT/Zoe, the good thing about being alive is that we can start over again and again and again, ad nauseum... and I do and you do and we all do, and it might work sometime! I guess we must be human. Freda, aha, YOU'RE the one who bags chips and then has the moral fortitude to "just have one"... I always thought Bobbi was my hero, but I think you've taken over. I could NEVER do that (and just sabotaged myself, didn't I?). You two are AMAZING with your self control and won't power. I bow to you both. Freda, I spent a year working at a general hospital here and ran screaming away from it. I liked being an angel of mercy, and my patients loved me... but it was the MOST toxic and hateful place I've ever worked. I have no interest in nursing again. Ever. I did renew my license last month, though, just in case......... Rosey, KarenMOFLO, Lynn, everyone..... hang in there! Isabella, again, I hope you're okay! Have a cool one... be safe! |
YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!
I just reviewed and graded all assignments & submitted final grades. I AM FREE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! Will take some time to read everyone's July posts and get back to you later today. Lynn |
About books. I read about 3 books/week. I have started recording my books on Shelfari.com. http://www.shelfari.com
If you go there & sign up, you can add me as a Friend & see everything I read and what I think about each one. If we all do this, we can get ideas from each other's shelf. Lynn |

Hi I'm New
Hi
I am new to this group. I had lost 50lbs. and let myself gain 25 back. REALLY I am so disgusted with myself. I do have a really bad back and it's a great excuse for not moving....but I can't stop eating. I think I have started to get control this week but it is only Wed. I need some of you to support me. Thanks for listening:) Peaches |
Hi all -
Peaches, I'm new too and I also gained 25 pounds back that I had lost. At least you stopped before you gained the whole 50 back. I also have a bad back, but I've found movement is really the only thing good for it, so I do walk every day. Don't be so hard on yourself!!! I started to regain control last Monday, then found out one of my employees wife died unexpectedly last night. It's been a rough day at work and I did eat some chocolate - like that would help!!! Hi everyone else - just trying to stay accountable by posting here. Not much to say. |
:welcome:Happy to have you Peaches and Poppy!
I started going thru the list of books, starting with Donna Andrews, apparently this is a new book, none of the libraries have it. I put my name on David Baldacci's True Blue and will get notified when it's returned by previous reader. It looks like this author has some series. I need to get some more ordered, my Stephanie Plume books are just about finished. I take my book outside around 7am to read for about an hour and soak up some rays. Then read for 1/2-1 hour in bed at night. Love it! |
Hi
Thanks Poppyinboulder. No the chocolate won't help but it sure tastes good. I guess the idea is to have some BUT a small amount and count it in your food totals. I got it when I was loosing the 50lbs. Now a little is really hard to do. I started Monday also...of course that's a whopping almost 3 days. Well so good so far. Bad news is that I am going out of town for the weekend. Not the best idea. Peaches:) |
Ellabella, don't know.... there is one way to find out ,just do it! You may have something there. Let me know how it turns out. Freda that sounds good , care sharing the recipe?

Hi everyone! Today was a nice day...nice and warm, just pleasant although I couldn't have stayed out in the sun too long. But being out there watering the flowers and gardens and setting up sprinklers was very nice. My dh sat out on the patio and we were out there about an hour. He has been a little bored today...should have gotten him out again later today when it was cooler but we didn't get to that. I think tomorrow we may try going to Costco. This is a guy that's always running out for something (I'm the stay-at-home) and the only time he's been out is to the doctor once since June 18! I think if he can get in one of those carts they have for the disabled he'll be fine at Costco. My only concern is getting him into the cart.
Z - glad you got a good rest! :D I read a lot to my kids too and I think it's a very good thing too. I hope hypnosis helps you with your eating. I did well today so maybe it is helping me. I do hear her voice in my head but then wouldn't i anyone who spoke to me about it? And I do have days when I eat less, soo not sure whether it actually is the hypnosis yet. But I am willing to keep trying it. Freda - yes I tend to eat fast..goes back to those old nursing days...but I know you shouldn't so I really try to slow down. Only way I seem to be able to keep chocolate to a minimum and still have it is to just buy a small amount. Today my dh requested a chocolate bar when I went to the store but he said we would share it so think he's beginning to realize how very difficult it is for me. I shared it and it was great and I was ok with just that. Then he also wanted a doughnut and we planned to share that but I decided not to...and just walked out of the room so I wouldn't change my mind. Maybe the hypnosis IS helping! Jess - interesting you renewed your license "just in case!" I have not renewed mine now for many years. I think I only renewed it once after I retired in fact. I have NO desire to work again and doubt anyone would hire me now anyway. But probably I'm older than you. Lynn - glad you are free again! :D Always like having you on the forums! You and Bobbi I think are the first people i met on here. Rosey - evening snacking is the hardest thing for me. I can do great all day and then blow it in the evening! Peaches and Poppy - WELCOME!! Hey if chocolate helps and you can limit it I say it's ok! I've lost 33 pounds before and gained 2/3 of it back before...it's discouraging and it's harder getting it off again, but I know it can be done. We just have to be persistent. I haven't listened to my hypnosis tape yet...think I will do it now before going to bed. Hope everyone gets a great night's sleep and a good OP day tomorrow!! |
