Hello all,

Boy time gets by fast ~ I haven't been able to read here or check in and post. I've started the new job ~ first two weeks were orientation. The next week (days off) were spent cleaning getting ready for company (my husband's father and his wife). They were here end of the week and begining of this week. Had a nice visit with them.

Haven't had a chance then to sort of get my new routine down. The weight has crept up ~ I think because I am not on my feet so much with this new job. Gotta get on the ball and get an exercise routine and do a better job of planing and making better choices with the food.

I'm liking the new job and liking sleeping at night at last. Starting to feel better. I'm happy to be able to finally start tackling the stuff at home that I had not been able to get to.

Hope things are going well for you all.

Take care

Hello everyone! I just walked outside and look wht I found!!!! It has to mean that Spring is coming!!! Me? I'm still feeling yucky.... think I am on round 3 now. I may have to break down and go see a Dr. although everyone that I have talked to said it is taking anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks to get over this with or without a Dr. I just know that I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.

I'll try to catch up with everyone soon. Just need to find some energy.

Hi Everyone,

Had a major breakthrough with research on one of my ancestors – my maternal grandfather. Found his parents and their parents in Gnesen Poland/Germany. Then, found a new cousin (this cousin’s ancestor is my great-grandfather’s brother) and spent an hour on the phone with him.

Today, I got my new tooth/crown. My body is never very happy about the novacaine – came home and took a long nap.

Tomorrow, I’m going scrapping. My DD and SIL are in Disney World for their 17th anniversary.

Hope everyone is doing GREAT!

Lynn

Were there any treasures in your trove?

I don't know if I mentioned it, but we watched that documentary, "Food, Inc." a couple of weeks back, and were pretty disturbed by it. We've committed to one meatless meal per week, and I suspect that we'll be completely meat-free within a year at most. Also buying all organic fruits and vegetables (we buy at local farm stands in season) and buying recycled products wherever possible and recycling at home.
Oh, good, Lynn - about the glasses, I mean. Which reminds me - I'm due for an eye exam, and probably new glasses myself. I keep putting it off. Need to stop doing that. And, girl, I wouldn't have left that office until the glasses were right, either! I swear, it seems more and more like we have to fight just to get what we're entitled to in the first place. Tiresome. Z
Hi Zoe,

About the new diet – I have been trying to do some of the same things – not too successful yet. My motivation is the cancer. Everything I read recommends more vegetables, organic products, avoiding the hormones and antibiotics, and less meat. I have not yet found very good organic vegetables/fruit. Most is VERY over-priced and not very good. I need to do more searching.

About the glasses – I got pretty loud and adamant about NOT taking glasses I couldn’t see out of. I guess there is still some of the “redhead” left in this old GRAY mare!

Was experiencing some wrist pain this morning so I took another Aleve in order to row. But now I'm in even more pain. The rowing has exacerbated my injured wrist and now I've got to lay off the rowing. I'm very frustrated with this! I have to wear a splint now. The doctor's calling it tendonitis, and I'm off the rower until he gives me the all clear.
I'm going to switch to the elliptical, but I can't stay on that thing for 40 minutes like the rower. My knees don't like it. I'll see what I can do. I'll have to take it slow.
Having trouble cutting points to the level WW wants me at. I've reduced my points overall each day, so perhaps eventually I'll get down to the right number.
Hi Georgia,

Sorry about your wrist. Hope it gets better soon. I know what you mean about the elliptical. When I use that machine, I have to work up to 20 minutes. I always start at 10 and add a minute everyday. Right now, I’m avoiding that and the bike bc of my knee.

About the WW points – try to eat a lot of low-point foods. When I go on WW, I always make those point-free soups and have them (in addition to my meals) at lunch and dinner.

Hi Freda,

Somehow I lost your original message – I wish I lived near your brother. All of my grocery stores have lots of organic fruit and veggies – they are just too expensive and not very fresh. I can get the meat/poultry, but only at a Farmer’s Market (Amish) and it’s open only on weekends.

Hi Gayle,

I’m glad you like your new job. I think it’s always difficult to stay on an eating plan when there are major changes in your life. You will settle in and get back on track.

Hi Rosey,

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. A measley foot of snow! You can do better than that! We had 30 inches from 2 snow storms in February here in PA!

Hi Karen,

We were posting at the same time. Sorry you are still not feeling good.

I see your ticker is gone also. I finally went directly to tickerfactory.com to "reinstate" mine.

Hi Everyone,

I've been MIA for a few days. Bear with me please, it's going to take a while to get caught up. Anyone else having ticker problems and not being able to see the signatures? I've lost 2lbs (a total of 10!) but couldn't update my ticker. I've been busy with parental concerns which is why I haven't been here. My Dad had an outbreak of shingles about 8 mos. ago and he has been suffering so badly. He has been seeing a pain specialist. Mom is unable to drive him to appointments due to her own concerns. Plus I have my granddaughter two days a week. Also, planning an upcoming trip to Indiana in our RV. So, things have been a bit hectic.

Also, DH and I have been kicking around the idea of adding a canine companion to our family for the last 6mos or so. Most likely, given our age, our last doggie. Anyway, we decided to go for it. It has been 8 years since our Corgi passed. We do have our cat Pandora whom we adopted from the shelter a few months after our doggie passed. She is wonderful, but I am feeling the need for doggie companionship again. Anyway, we are awaiting the arrival of an Airedale Terrier puppy. This may be many months in the future as we are on a waiting list from the breeder I selected.

I am still working out to my DVDs most mornings. I have been noticing some distinct changes at last. I see some muscle tone and I see a leaner me in the mirror. If I ever get this weight off of me, I can promise you I will never go back. I have made a promise to myself that if I gain 5lbs over my ideal that it's time to deal with it. I used to do that when I was in my 20's and 30's. It worked then and it can work now.

Thanks Lynn, I had forgotten about tickerfactory! Now that I have put up a new ticker I hope I can get over this "bug" and get back to some kind of plan!! My original plan was to have at least 25 pounds off before we were able to use the pool for the first time.......well... now my next first step is to get 10 pounds off in the next 2 months. Now if I could just get over this bug!!!

Here is a pic of Sissy----such a rough life!!!!

Good Mornng GG's,

Another lovely day yesterday. A bit windy but the sun was shining. Always makes you feel better. Diet is back on tract. One day, one meal, is not a deal breaker. Got my exercise in too, arobic and weights. Still building up to what I was before but getting there.

Gayle, good to hear from you. Happy to hear that your new job is working out. You sound much happier.

Karen, that "bug" does seem to hang on forever. My husband had it for a month! Hope it doesn't hang around that long for you.

Cndy, Missed you, glad to see you back. Life does have a way of getting hectic at times. Congratulations on the weight loss! You are doing so well. I think the 5 lb. rule is a good one too. It's one I use. There is always a slight change in weight from day to day, but when I see that 5 lb. mark, I panic! It's too hard to lose to let it get out of hand. And my clothes start getting really tight at that point too. I had a patient the last day I worked with shingles. Yes, they are really painful. I'm getting my shingles shot the next time I go to the Dr. And the pneumonia shot too. When help is there you just need to take advantage of it.

Lynn, lost my ticker too. It was here yesterday. what's going on. Guess I have to go find another one. Great. You know how great I am with these things!

Everyone have a good day

Freda

Wow. I slept REALLY well last night! I don't know if I made up for any lost sleep over the past few weeks, but I got a solid 7 hours, and feel pretty well rested this morning. The combination of Melatonin and tea seems to be finally making an impact. Yay.
Well, yesterday was my "super high calorie day" on the Wendie/zig-zag plan, and I actually had a tough time getting all my calories in. I'm not sure that I actually did, but I filled up as much as I could. It's just that my plan was to have Fiber One pancakes with blueberries, sugar-free maple syrup, and turkey sausages for supper, which I did, but couldn't actually eat all my pancakes. What? Me, you might ask? Me, who possesses the appetite of a lumberjack and craves chocolate and sugar and fat and salt....etc., etc.? Well, yes. It all seems to be part of my mindset these days about eating nutritiously without offending the animal population and without laying down a ginormous carbon footprint in the process. Trying not to, anyway. I've been reading a lot of environmental articles lately, and I'm becoming convinced that, contrary to my previous feelings on the subject, one - or a few of us - really can make a difference. Kind of like voting; our votes, taken individually seem unsubstantial, but added all together, they actually determine the political direction of the country - and the world. Our way of eating has the same effect on the environment. Okay, I’ve got to confess, though, that Leslie and I haven’t been meeting for the past few mornings. I know she misses me, and I feel terrible about it, but I gave myself a break. No, I know I wasn’t doing me any favor by missing out on what little exercise I’ve been managing to get, but….oh, but NOTHING. Lazy girl strikes again .
And, stepping down off my environmental soapbox, I will also say that ANOTHER (important) reason for eating carefully is that I still hope to get out on the beach this summer looking - and feeling - human. Or not feeling embarrassed, at any rate, by various and sundry bulges and such. I'm terribly self-conscious, and often wish that I could be a little less so.
Oh, Freda! Isn't that ALWAYS the case? So often we "splurge" and it isn't even on anything we really like! Potato salad is such an individual kind of thing, too. We all have our favorite ways of making it, and once we get used to ours, we seldom care for the way somebody else makes it. I actually used to make a pretty good potato salad, myself. It was in high demand at cookouts and such. I haven't made it in a long, long time. Oh, and if I ever hit my long term weight goal, I think that I, too, will follow the “five pound rule”. Makes a lot of sense.
Omigosh, Karen, Sissy is adorable! What a life, indeed. Well, she & her little sis deserve it, that’s for sure.
Congrats, Cindy, on your great progress! (Now if I could just bring myself to get some serious exercise going…..I SWEAR, though, that when the weather gets bearable up here, I will get myself out of “hibernation” mode and get out there hiking and bicycling again!)
PT!!! Howz it going? Have you given any more thought to the Wendie plan? What’s shaking in your neck of the woods these days?
Rosey, well, you know we’re all sending you lots of supportive vibes, right? Hope everything goes well at your visit with the doctor.
Georgia, the best way that I’ve found to stick to point (or calorie) ranges is to eat lots of fruit & veggies and cut back on processed foods and meat. Well, I know you already limit your meat, but the other staple (and Bobbi will second this) is Fiber One cereal. I think one of the important formulas for getting our weight under control is to increase fiber and water, increase natural foods and decrease everything else. Oh, alright <looking around at room full of exercisers> – and exercise. DO be careful about the exercise, though. Straining or breaking something will definitely put a major dent in your mobility, y’know.
Don’t worry, Lynn, that “redheadedness” never actually disappears, it just gets camouflaged. I assure you that it’s still there, ready to erupt at a moment’s notice. My hair tends toward strawberry blonde if I leave it on its own (or used to, anyway) and with just that tinge of strawberry, I stay pretty feisty.
Bobbi!!! We’re waiting with bated breath, girl! Did you strike it rich at the Antiques Roadshow or what?
Isabella! Where ARE you???? Are you okay? I’m worried about those issues with your back. Come here and tell us that you’re okay, okay?
Hi Gayle. Glad things are going well for you.
Have a great day, GGs….we’re supposed to be having a really nice weekend hereabouts – temperatures in the high 40’s, maybe low 50’s. I think DH & I are going to go over to DD’s after we get our grocery shopping done tomorrow and spend some time with her and the twinnies and my little heart, Morgan OUTSIDE! Yay!

I'm here, Zoe, but feeling somewhat depressed over the back pain. It's feeling a little better each day but still not good enough for one of my long walks. Today I was able to dust and clean some but had to sit down afterwards and I always have that nagging ache in the lower back. I'm not usually so "blue" but the weather has been just awful as well. We had such lovely sunny days in January and February but haven't seen the sun since March marched in. Rain, drizzle, freezing rain, freezing drizzle and today we're in the middle of a snow storm. DH has a snow day and is out playing with his snow blower. I can't even go out to play with him as I'm afraid I'd slip and fall to complicate matters.

Bobbi
, your renovated bathroom looks lovely. You have such a nice decorating touch. Me, on the other hand, am lucky if I get the colors to match. I try.

Freda, you're not alone with the iron. My sister irons everything. She's been known to grab an item of clothing from my hands as I was going to put it on to iron it for me. She even irons socks!!! But all her clothing looks nice and crisply ironed. And about eating food we don't particularly like. I do that all the time. And I could shake myself afterwards. If I'm going to cheat, it might as well be something I love, eh.

Georgia, I'm sending you my sympathy about your wrist. I know exactly what you mean. What a bummer to be laid up and not feel sick.

Glynne, glad the new job is working out so well. You'll soon get into a good routine and start losing weight again.

Rosey, we're getting snow today, too. Our winters last a long time and I can't wait to actually have real spring come and last.

Karen
, I hope you soon start to feel 100%. Nothing worse than feeling sick and dragged out.

Lynn
, congratulations on finding new relatives. Did you find you knew lots of things in common about family matters?

Cindy, hope your dad feels better soon. My mom had shingles when she was living with us but fortunately they were a very mild case and she didn't have much pain. I'll be getting the shingle vaccination as soon as I can. My aunt wasn't as lucky as mom and had lots of pain like your dad.

Hi Donna. How's it going today?

Gone to get DH his lunch and go to the store. Hope getting out will put me in a better mood. Have a good day, gals.

Good Morning, All....
Good posts. I missed yesterday, for the first time ever... and I had withdrawal.

I'm hanging in there. Nothing to report. Up a pound, down an ounce. Same ol', same ol'.... no, PT, I haven't put any foods to the Wendie chart yet, but it's on my list of things to do.

Karen, your dogs are TOO cute!! I hope you're feeling better soon!

Rosey, be sure to remind us of your doctor apptments closer to the time, so we can send up good thoughts for you.

Lynn, how's your DD doing?

Everyone, have a safe and warm day!

Hi Everyone,

We've had a beautiful day today. Lots of sunshine and temp in the 70s! I really needed that after all the gloomy rain we've been having. I filled the birdfeeder and the cardinals and bluejays are enjoying the buffet. I managed to get caught up on a lot of housework. Nice weather tends to get me motivated. Since the house is caught up I'm hoping for another nice day tomorrow to spend in the yard.

Donna: I had withdrawal too. Nice to see you today.

Isabella: Hope your back heals soon. That's no fun at all.

Zoe: You are so close to your goal weight! I know you'll have those last few pounds licked in no time.

Freda: Glad to hear you're back on track. You have the right attitude!

Karen: Sissy is adorable! We are looking forward to using our pool also. I just hope I can fit into the nice suit I bought last year. But, I was at least 10 lbs lighter. It's a swim dress and really hides a lot of faults!

Lynn: Thanks for recommending the ticker factory. I'm up and running now. I love to watch Antique Road Show on t.v. Did you have any luck?

Have a good evening everyone!

Good morning!!!! Oh, yes indeed - I am quite Perky this morning! Okay. sort of perky. Okay, not as lethargic as usual. I don't know what it is about the GGs, but you all sure seem to bring out my honesty monitor. Quite perky is beyond me at the best of times. I AM rather pleased about the weather, though. It's supposed to maybe hit 50 degrees! Oh, Lawdie, Lawdie - shall I pull out a halter top?? (Yeah, when pigs fly! ) DH has headed out with my car for an oil change, I am luxuriating in being alone here, sipping coffee, checking my email, checking in with the GGs and all...when he gets back, we'll do the grocery shopping, and then spend the rest of the day with my DD and her little brood. I have been a VERY good adherent to the Wendie Plan this week (since Monday) and am feeling pretty good. Feeling less bloated and marshmallowy. I shall not weigh myself until NEXT Saturday, however. I'm scared to death of getting on the scale this morning, perhaps seeing no loss and becoming discouraged. Discouragement tends, in my case, to lead to "I don't care" and "I don't care" leads to eating to excess. I was going to say "eating whatever I want", but that's not it. Too often, when I'm eating out of frustration, I eat stuff that I really DON'T want, and that makes it doubly hard to take when those extra pounds and ounces show up on the scale.
Soooooo, I'm nearly through the first week of my two month campaign to lose ten pounds. I've changed my goal to reflect an EXTRA ten pounds, which means I have fifteen to lose, but will take ten in two months and be more than satisfied. So far, so good. Baby steps, baby steps.
So where's Bobbi?
Isabella, are you better? Oh, I hope that the weather, at least, is prettier for you this weekend! Warmer weather is a lot kinder to body aches, too.
PT? Hiya!!
I am off...not to see the wizard, but to search the supermarket for edible foodstuffs that don't do horrible things to the environment OR to me!
Have a GREEEEEEAAAAAAT day, GGs!!!!
