Thinking about our new challenge & I have an idea I'd like to share.
Research says that to make a new habit, you need to do the activity for 90 days. Our current challenge ends on 11/14. What if our next challenge goes from 11/15 to 2/15? The challenge is to form a new habit. Everyone could pick the new habit they want to acquire. 1 point/day for posting progress + 1 point/day for doing the activity. What do you think? Lynn |
Lynn, I would like to get a copy of the address book. But maybe wait a bit and see if there are any more here that would be interested. I know I got a PM from Freda and she would like to be included in an address book. Maybe put it out there for a couple weeks and see if there are any takers. I will PM you with my new address. Thanks, Karen

How come it takes about 2 seconds to form a bad habit and 90 days to form a good habit? This is from personal experience.

Winter 09-10 Challenge
Question I received - I'm interested in the challenge, but please go over the "how to's" for us newbies?
Answer - On the 1st of November, I will post a message in the Main Forum titled, "Winter 09-10 Challenge." I will ask our moderator to move it up to the "Sticky" area - above where our thread appears. The challenge will actually begin on 11/15 (the day after our current challenge ends). The challenge will end on 2/15 (90 days later). The reason for a 90-day challenge is that it takes 90 days of doing a particular behavior to form a "habit." Anyone who wants to be part of the Winter Challenge will post ONE (1) message indicating her interest. NOTE: this is not a thread where we discuss stuff with each other. Each of us gets just ONE (1) post & we edit that everday to post our progress. In our original post, we will include whatever information we want and indicate the new habit that we want to form. [For me, it will be eating 6-9 servings of vegetables/fruit per day.] I am suggesting that we can earn up to two (2) points/day. One (1) point for posting and one (1) point for actually doing our proposed habit. At the end of the challenge (February 15) the person with the most points will win our virtual award – http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:S.../06/winner.jpg From the day of winning until the end of the next challenge, the winner will post our virtual award as part of her signature (or as her avatar if she prefers). She will be known far and wide as the WINNER of the Winter 09-10Challenge until there is a new winner to take the trophy from her. Let me know if you have other questions about this. Lynn |
Good Morning Girls!
This week sure flew by fast due to leaving the comforts of my home every day, today I have a hair cut appointment. DH is taking me into town since we have rain and 50 mile an hour wind gusts. Lynn...I'm very interested in the new challenge, and one post per person is perfect. That way we can check out everyone's post quicker. I ate two of them but recorded them and still stayed within my calories. I'll have to pretend the homemade peanut butter cups taste like cat do-do. Have a good one... |
Hmmmmmm, Lynn. That winter challenge sounds like something I NEED to be involved in. I'm not sure which habit I want to focus on (there are so MANY that I should be forming) but between now and when it starts, I'll narrow it down.
In the meantime, I am home today, "sick of work". I have so many sick days built up that it's ridiculous. 3 personal days, too, that are lost at the end of the year if I don't take them. And some leftover vacation days, too, which I'm not sure about. If my son is coming home for Christmas, then I will naturally take them then. If he can't - which might be the case this year, because he took on a project management position a few months back and really can't leave his team hanging during the busiest part of the year (videogames + Christmas = questions and trouble shooting, even though the design & testing is long since over with). His SO is anxious to move back to New England (although I can't for the life of me, see why) so he's gearing up to getting his resume out in the Boston area. Naturally, I will love having him closer to home if they DO move back, but He's still working to complete his masters degree, and let's face it - higher education out in CA is a WHOLE lot cheaper than it is in Boston. ANYway, if he can't make it home, then I'll fly out to spend some time with him (and her...grrrr) a couple of weeks before Christmas. Hmmm. Maybe if I complain about the changing weather patterns in New England, and tell some real horror stories about driving the Mass Pike in blizzards, she will have a second or third thought about it, and he'll be able to at least finish school out there instead of paying through the nose for every course he takes here in Massachusetts. Well, as I said, I'm home today - I'll be going with my daughter (and the little twins) over to my granddaughter's school after lunch to watch their little Hallowe'en parade. That'll be fun. In the meantime, I'll spend a leisurely morning dabbling here on the 'net, take a nice, long bubbly bath, wash my hair, and pamper myself outrageously. DH IS home, of course. This is not one of those "time to myself" events, I'm afraid. Even after having some discussion with him about it a month or so ago, and hoping against hope that he might consciously arrange to give me some time to myself occasionally, things are no better in that particular arena. Truthfully speaking, when I AM home off-schedule, so to speak, I feel a tad uncomfortable - like we get in each other's space too much when it's not during our normal hours to interact. Or I'm getting in his, and feeling resentful because I sense that I'm in his. So, then, where is MY space, I ask? Do I have to traipse up and down store aisles or find a spot to park my car somewhere just to be alone for a little darned bit? Okay, I'll stop whining now. :o DH had a flu shot at the beginning of the week, and has had a scratchy throat and stuffy nose, and just generally feeling tired and run down ever since. Blah. I hate those flu shots! I've had a few bad reactions myself in the past to various vaccines, and am a little up in the air about what to do about the H1N1 if it ever makes it to my segment of the population. I read an article recently, though, about how people incarcerated in prisons were on the priority list for the shots, and a lot of folks were outraged that *criminals* would be getting something that they couldn't get yet. Pretty shortsighted, from my perspective. Having a virus like that run rampant through the prison population would affect way more than just the prisoners, for gawd's sake! What about the corrections officers carrying it home with them and out into the general population? Or the cost involved if they have to quarantine whole facilities...doctors, nurses, social workers, office workers, etc? What about the visitors infected and carrying it home - and into the community with them - before the quarantine goes into effect? I swear, so many just have knee-jerk reactions, and don't even THINK past their first impressions! Blah. Isabella and Bobbi - I am SO with you on the bargain hunting! And am now picking up things for next summer, too, when I spot a deal. I got some really sweet open-toe black canvas sliders that normally go for @ 90 buckaroonies for $25. Gotta love it! :D Okay. Bad confessions. Last night, DH went to bed early because of his stuffy nose, etc., and I watched a couple of movies on Netflix all by myself. In between the two movies, I went out to the kitchen and got myself about 250 calories' worth of Sun Chips (omigawd, I LOVE sunchips, but usually give myself EIGHT in a little baggie to bring to work - that's 70 calories, which I dutifully add into my daily totals) and about 25 seedless green grapes, which aren't killers all by themselves, but with the sunchips, that was a good 350 calories more than I needed yesterday. Tsk. Mindless munching. That's what I was doing. I HATE it when I give in and do that stupid stuff! Hi Freda! (Glad you're still around...I sorta knew you were, but just hadn't caught up with you! :) Glad you're getting some decent fall weather, too!) Enjoy your time off, Gayle, Hi Donna - hope you aren't snowed in by now! Hi Karen - Hiya, Lindy and Judy! Y'all should come on back, now! Over and out (finally! :dizzy:) Z |
Good afternoon ladies. Busy day today, baking and cooking for the weekend and DIL's family. Her grandmother's funeral is on Sunday. I don't know why they waited so long unless family is flying home or maybe they didn't want the funeral on Halloween. But I have a tortellini casserole, raisin buns and homemade jam ready to take to them. DIL's parents live across the street from us so it won't be a long journey.
H1N1 furor is at its height in Newfoundland. There's so much information and mis-information going around it's hard to sort it all out. All vaccine schedules have been bumped up but I still don't know when it'll be where I live. Sometime next week but not sure which day. I wasn't sure if I was going to get the shot but my mind is now made up and I will be getting it. DH drives a school bus and is exposed to snotty-nosed kids everyday and who knows what germs and bacteria he'll bring home. Anyway, if I grow a curly tail, I'll be somewhat peeved. Must go and track my food on fitday. Have a good weekend everyone. |
Good morning! It's downright HOT here today, almost 39! There's just about 20" of snow in my front yard, and I'm no longer enchanted with winter. Even so, life is good! Isabella, you got fitday working again? I'm having so much FUN with that! Thanks! And you can hide the curly tail, if necessary; however, that NOSE is difficult! Snort snort! If I could figure out how to get a url address for a picture, I'd include a cute pig picture in here. Stay warm! Onward and upward!

Good afternoon ladies.
Just got back from visiting DM. She is finally in a nursing home now after a long drawn out time (almost 2 yrs) of trying to explain to her that it was impossible for her to live in her own apartment. She is 91. I'm sure glad she is there as she just got over an episode with gout in her knee which was very painful for her. She still can't put any weight on her leg so they have had to move her around wih a lift. Anyway, I'm going to have to start journaling my food so I can keep track of what I eat. It's so easy to forget one or two things. DH and I have had the ordinary flu shot but the one for H1N1 may take a while yet. The lineups are so long, maybe next week if they don't run out. Going to see what I can have for lunch. Have a great day. L |
Hi ladies. May I join you? I joined this site in June at my daughter's urging. She lost 60 lbs this year and looks fantastic! I try to keep up with her support group, but really can't. They are mostly in their 20s-30s (kids!), and can run and drop weight like crazy!

ELLABELLA ~ How old are your daughter's twins? My daughter's twin girls were three in August. I hear you about "alone time." I always try to take a week off when my DH and kids are working and in school! I need it! I usually end up cleaning out closets and such, but that's fine, I'm all by myself and I love it! Don't know how we'll manage if and when we ever retire.
LYNN ~ I'll look for that challenge thread. BOBBI ~ Aw, how nice of you to make Halloween treats! I have yet to buy any candy. We get fewer and fewer kids each year. RETIREDONE ~I'm with you on the H1N1 shot. I want it, now! This is the first time that a flu epidemic has scared me. JESS ~ I checked your weather forecast as I am making a stopover there on Monday. Things are warming up for you! LINDY ~Wow, your mom was just recently living on her own? My dad is 88, and I think he will be moving in here soon (that is if I can get a kid or two to move out!). I just responded to this page. I'm looking forward to getting to know you "chicks" |
I'm on my way to bed but I saw your post Late to the game. Welcome to the Golden Girls. You'll love it here. No spunky 20 or 30 year olds here. :D
