Hi everyone. I am still here.

Wanted to say to Lori what a shock and hopefully you are managing ok.
You are in our thoughts. Hope things pick up.

I have been trying to load my picture of my quilt for you all to see. It turned out amazing. But it was not fun to make because the velvet is slippery and frays. Laurie I ended up zig zaging every seam.

I shrunk the pictures to the size of a pinhead and the attachment still failed.
Kept saying not a valid image file. So that was that. I have given up in great frustration.

Now I have not been to the gym yet but am getting back into the mood. I know that sounds weird but the head has to be willing too.

I just realized that I sent a message yesterday that does not seem to be here. Hmmm.
Jay I was answering your question on the Food and Mood groups. It was great. I was thinking food then mood but no it was about eating the right things that can determine your state of mind. First one is omega 3 and it is the building blocks of the brain and the next one mentioned is folate (folic acid). There was more mentioned but it seems that the healthier your diet the less prone you will be to depression etc. It was all very interesting. It was put on by the dieticians from the local hospital.

Had a night on exercise by an exercise specialist too. Her expectations were very high. She hoped everyone would strive for an hour of cardio and weight training every other day. No excuses for age.

So I have my exercise plan all ramped up again. I have a chart called Eight Minutes in the morning that is off the internet. It does 2 weight training exercises every day. Moving around all the muscle groups. So I am going to incorporate that in with my cardio. Lately I have been only doing cardio but need to step it up a bit. It is easier to work 2 exercises everyday for me. More likely to get them done. Then I have this whole regime for my back as I have arthritis in my back. So that is supposed to be done everyday too.

Hard to find time to work!!!

Thanks for the instructions Laurie but just could not get it going. I was going to send my picture to you and see if you could load it but I could not load it to email either.
Sounds like you had a fabulous trip. Why Chicago? Never been there but sounded pretty interesting.

My food was good until yesterday and my weight was down but today not so good. Food again here at work and there I was munching on cookies. Jeez.
I am mad at myself now.
I have been doing so well and do not want to lose the momentum. My cravings are down. Not sure what happened today. I sure hate having to be tempted every single day at my workplace.
Oh well no one is listening here. Lots of overweight women here too.

Does anyone get that British show on tv called How to Look Good Naked?? Fabulous fun show. It is on the womens channel. Now I know the states brought out one as well but did not do near as good a job as the Brits.
It was on at 10pm on Tuesday.
Well I had better get back to work.... here is to an OP day tomorrow.
Cheers Jude

Jude - it isn't you - the site is broken. I have seen several other posts complaining of the same thing. Hopefully, they can get attachments working again soon. I really want to see that quilt!!

don't fret over the work eating, just get back at it. Have a plan for when those cookies appear - because, if your office is like mine - they WILL!!!! I buy myself special ON PLAN indulgences to keep in my drawer at work. When I get those cravings for free office food, I treat myself instead.

A good day here - the weather is still cold and rainy, but the gardens are loving it! No scooting all week and no evenings around the firepit either. I'm hoping the weekend is better.

Hope you had a good day too!

Thanks CD! I will try the picture again at a later date. I was wondering as I have loaded pictures before.

I finally seem to be getting over this free food at work. I was thinking what Jayel had said about only eating something that was really worth it.

One of the staff came over to my desk this afternoon with a plate of things while I was on the phone and offered me something. I took a piece of loaf cake without thinking. More to be polite than anything. Well this was nice of her but it was not the kind of food that I would chose to eat anyway. Just very processed bargain basement kind of stuff. I left it sitting there and when I went for water I took it to the kitchen and chucked it.

Wow this is getting somewhere. I am finding I am slowly taking the time to think about whether or not I want to eat all that sugar and fat and flour. Usually there is something else going on and I am realizing that no amount of food is going to fix it.

I am finding that the more I have control the less the cravings are getting.
I have been able to eliminate the so so stuff anyway. I did well on my holidays. I also find letting myself have the odd treat helps even if it is not OP. Then I try to remember why I thought it was so necessary.

I have a long way to go but I do feel like I am having some success whereas a month ago I just craving all the time.

It is great to be able to come here and share. I am taking control of a few things that are emotional and were my excuse for eating. Maybe I have just decided to be better to myself than I used to.
Anyway it is feeling better. I have set ONE goal to work on and that is me. That is a big enough job for now.

Hey Jay!!!!!! Where did you go????

I have a goal to lose 10 pounds by the end of June and it is coming along slowly. I will get as close as I can. That would mean being at 220. It has been ages since I have been there.

Hope your weather picks up Laurie. I love to sit around a fire outside. What a nice place to be....

Talk to you tomorrow.....Jude

Hi, everyone!

I'm still here, Jude! Glad to hear that you passed up those "treats" you didn't really want. Nothing makes me madder at myself than eating something fattening that I really don't even enjoy.

I don't work in an office, but there are foods in the house I could get into trouble with if I chose to. Fortunately they are not the only choices--and that's an important strategy!

It's been raining every day here, but that's kind of par for the course. It's rainy this morning, though, and usually it's sunny in the mornings and rains in the afternoon. Makes it kinda gloomy to get up. But I'm happy we have it!

The 545-mile SF to LA Bicycle Ride to end AIDS begins on Sunday, and my friend who is doing it is both excited and nervous! I can only imagine... She's been doing training rides on the weekends for months, but still... it's a long haul in 7 days. Also she's only a year younger than me, and 3 years older than when she did it the first time. She's many pounds lighter now, but still, she knows she's not the swiftest or strongest rider in the huge bunch that are doing it. I really admire her!

flowingair, I hope you stick around! Let us know how you're doing.

Bye for now,
Jay

Hi Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts. School will be out June 15 th and my daughter's wedding is June 27th so I'm really busy. I'm packing up my classroom and bringing things home. There is still a possibility that I'll be called back. My new saying is Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. I think it will help me on my weight journey too! I will try to stay in touch as much as possible.
Hey Jude have you ever tried Picasa. It's a free download from google- I love it you can fix all kinds of things on your photographs and then e-mail them or send as attachments.
Talk to everyone soon.-Lori

Jude Girl, that was AWESOME dumping the cake! What a victory! I'm betting that you are well on your way to ONEDERLAND!

Jay - I'm with you - I have a friend that is older than me that bikes several thousand miles each summer. A typical evening for her and her husband (in his 60s) is to bike 50-100 miles for fun. I can think of few things less appealing than spending hours with my backside on a bicycle seat I admire anyone that can do that consistently!

Lori - I am hoping that the $500+ cut in student aid doesn't happen, but I think you are wise to prepare for the worst. I am very hopeful that they will figure out a way to give schools the money they need to operate, but Lansing isn't known for pulling out miracles when it comes to the budget. Who knows, with so many people leaving MI right now, there may very well be fewer layoffs than we are expecting.

Busy Saturday here - being gone last weekend means that I didn't get anything done around the house. So, I have two weeks worth of chores to get done. And, two contractors were here to measure the roof. This old house is need of a new roof, badly. And, with the current tax incentive - it makes sense to get it done now.
Not that we really have a choice, anyway

I'm happy to report that the Chicago lbs. have disappeared and my ticker is accurate again

I'm off to finish washing the inside windows. The hail has stopped and the sun is out. I might actually be able to see all the streaks I leave

Enjoy your weekend all!

Hey! CD, good for you in getting those Chicago pounds off again. Gosh, that wasn't bad at all--and it sounds like you had great fun!

Quiet days here. Yesterday I trimmed bushes. It's hot and sunny today, but not too humid. I haven't been out yet.

I'm really bummed out that Susan Boyle came in second on Britain's Got Talent. But, I can't fault Diversity--the dance troupe that won. They were really good. Still, it's not fun to see someone with talent get chewed up by the media the way she was. I hope she goes on to make an album and gets a tidy sum from it. I'll buy it right now.

Later, we're going to a concert of Broadway tunes! That should be very fun. It's the last concert of the current season. The next season starts in the fall, I think.

Enjoy your time!

Default P.s.

I wanted to share this post by member MistyRain. Read her post and then my reply and her reply to me, below it. I think she is really on to something about maintenance.

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/show...2&postcount=81

The thread is about maintaining by eating everything in moderation.

(I guess the link only takes you to her post--but click the thread name in the upper right of the window and you'll be taken to the rest of the thread.)

Jay - I agree with you about Misty's post. It absolutely represents the "aha" moment for me. I don't agree with most of the chicks around here that are in maintenance, because "all things in moderation" has been my mantra from the start of this journey.

I thoroughly enjoy eating now - I restrict no food. That being said, I make much smarter choices now. I've changed my relationship with food and find that I actually like and CRAVE healthier foods. That being said, I DO eat things that aren't so healthy - just in moderation (Triple Chocolate Cheesecake comes to mind ).

I think that is why I was able to dump the Chicago lbs. so quickly. I think they were mostly water weight from the high sodium content of some of the foods (Chicago style pizza on the last night - most likely).

We ate exactly what we wanted on the trip - no guilt, no agonizing - we thouroughly enjoyed every bite. But, there were some ground rules we set at the beginning of this journey that have dramatically changed the way we dine out.
1. We ALWAYS split ONE thing. It can be an appetizer, entree, side or dessert. If we are still hungry, we order more. That almost never happens
2. We take a plastic container with us for leftovers. And, when the food comes - we decide what a portion is and package up the rest. Even when splitting an entree - we often have leftovers. Restaurant portions can be large enough to feed a family of 4 sometimes!
3. We try to stay in places where we have access to a refrigerator and microwave - that way leftovers become breakfast or lunch for another day. Though, in big cities - we often pass them along to one of the colorful folk we meet on the street (panhandlers). If we decide against having them for a second meal, we dump them. It is easier to do than to leave them on the plate (card carrying clean plate members here - with all the usual guilt messages deeply ingrained in both of us)

I hesitate to post much about maintenance around here because I really don't seem to be like some of the others that still plan, plan, plan and restrict, restrict, restrict. But my experience has been like Misty's - I really have a different relationship with food now. I do eat like a thin person. I'm not 100 percent there yet - I still need to control my portions, where a true thin person would be able to just stop when there is lots of food on the plate - but, I'm working on it!

I agree with you on Susan too - one of the reasons that we no longer watch TV is the whole tabloid mentality that permeates every show - even the evening news! I feel badly for her, but I do believe she will profit dramatically from the whole experience. Simon signed her to a contract, and we WILL be seeing an album. And given all of the drama and publicity - it will become an international best seller - not just in Britain.

I'm off to get some gardening done. It is still cool here (55) but the sun is shining. Then, I need to call my mom for our usual Sunday chat. I bought some Numi flowering teas that I serve in my English tea cup when I chat with her. A funny ritual, but I enjoy it.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Laurie

Hi, I call myself Musicgal and I've been a member of this website for about 9 years or so. It seems I am always struggling with my weight, usually with 10-20 lbs. I'm usually content when I am in the 130's, whether it be 131 or 139 (usually it's 137 and above!). Am trying right now to get in the lower range and possibly the high 120's. I have a small frame and stand around 5'4 1/2. I am in my 50's now (going on 52) and still going through occasional hot flashes. Most of my weight seems to be in the belly and below area...except I have to admit my legs from the thighs down are still pretty hot ! I used to run a lot in my 20's and early 30's but now have knee problems so I don't run much anymore although I do intersperse walking and jogging. From the ages of 23-30, I have competed in 9 marathons, my best time being a modest 4:09. I completed my first mini (sprint distance) triathlon right around the time of my 50th birthday. After I finished having kids (at age 37) I went back to exercise...first running and then I found out I had osteoarthritis so I joined a gym and took various cardio and strength training classes. I also use a home treadmill and elliptical machine and recently discovered yin yoga which I like to do at night to stretch and calm myself.

Nice to meet you and I will be reading all your posts.

Musicgal Glad you joined us! We are the same age (I'll be 52 in October). I hope you post often so we get to know you better!

I'm soooo impressed by your running! I've NEVER been much of a runner, and like you - I have knee issues right now. I DO like walking and hiking however

meowee! Gosh, it's about time you went to a specialist! This is nuts! I don't understand treating you with steroids right off the bat like that. I hope you get better evaluation from the respiratory specialist.

CD, I like your rules for the road--or for eating out--they make sense and help avoid some pitfalls.

I agree that some of the maintainers here sound like they are "white knuckling" it, and I can't foresee living life that way myself. I hope I don't have to...

I suppose you've also seen that Susan Boyle is hospitalized with exhaustion now. I feel so bad--I hope that having some rest and TLC will put things right for her. I could tell watching the announcement of the winner that she was in bad shape--she was visibly trembling before they named the winner. I think she had just been run into the ground. It makes me angry!

My food plan has been good--allowing myself to have a decent calorie target and taking loss more slowly seems to be working.

Musicgal, you still with us? Where's BillBlueEyes, Hijude, flowingair, and our other buddies?

Linda I'm with Jay - you've been sick with this thing way too long!

Jay - thanks for the update on Susan - I hadn't seen it. Work was crazy busy (it always is the last week of school) and I haven't been online much all day.

Congrats on 17 days on target I like slow and steady myself. I'm betting that 12 lbs will go this summer. Keep on doing what you are doing!

I'm off to grill some veggies and then get some yard work done. I'm behind DH in miles in this "Lets Get Moving" contest. I can't wait until school is out and I don't need my car for work. Then I can walk to work like he does One more week!

Hope you all had a good start to the week!
