A quick fly-by from CA.

Jay - I so agree with your comment about the woods. I absolutely find nature therapeutic.

Jude - sorry you had trouble with your dental appointment. I abhor going and with my teeth, unfortunately, I spend a lot of time there.
I like the way you think - my knees give me a lot of grief - which is I'm sure related to the abuse I have put them through over the years with my weight - but still - I'm thankful I can move as much as I can, and that I FINALLY figured out that I needed to give them some relief. Better late than never...

Lori - get moving, girl! Seriously - even adding some steps and stairs. Maybe an extra stretch in the morning before work. Start slowly, but get in some extra activity every day if you can. Activity leads to more activity. Getting started is the hardest part. You CAN do it - and - it will ultimately make you feel a lot better. Needless to say - it will help your weight loss as well.

We had a great day today visiting the zoo. I'm a zoo-a-holic. Probably because we don't have any close to home. I am an animal lover as well - particularly giraffes, big cats, otters and penguins. Weird combination - I know.

We had dinner at an awesome Japanese restaurant in Oakland. I'm glad we walked there, because I probably ate more than I would have at home.

Hope you all had a great day!

meowee 10-21-2008 07:42 AM

Pretty cold and windy around here today and very overcast as well. All together not a great looking day. Oh well, at least there is no snow in the immediate forecast. :D

Have a great moving and shaking day everybody . . . :carrot:

hijude 10-21-2008 07:59 PM

I love Zoo's too. Where are you CD? I know you are on a trip but missed the location. Those are some pretty exotic animals. I love the San Diego zoo. One of the best I have been too.
I need to get moving too. If I do not I will never lose any weight. It is nice to have a buddy. But not always an option.
bye for now....Jude

Quick fly-in. We are in San Francisco - Oakland (Bay Area). Today was urban hiking and brewpub visitation. Hiked UP Lombard Street. Sure glad we took our hiking poles. We got a few strange looks, and lots of comments about forgetting our skis. Then, when we blew by everyone halfway up the hill, they changed their tune ;)

I'm afraid I went way off plan today. Too may pub stops and then tapas and we finished at the Cheesecake Factory. Need I say more? :o I'm hoping the 7 miles of hiking neuralized SOME of it.

Hope you all had a great day! I'm off to bed.

the slim me 10-22-2008 08:59 AM

Godo Morning all, I'be be doing ok, most of the time. I have had a few slips but nothing major. And I have been getting my exercise in too.

Jay, I always say I am closer to God in my garden than any where else. I often go there to pray.

Jude, It's always easier to do something if you have help. Glad you found the lady at work. But just because she isn't able to walk at lunch time doesn't mean you can't, because you're right. Having a buddy isn't always an option.

Laurie, Sounds like you're haivng fun and getting in some serious exercise! Shouldn't do too much damage that way. You sure showed those people whith your hiking poles, huh!!

Linda, Our weather sounds about like yours. Not doing anything yet, just getting ready to!

make it a good day, Freda

JayEll 10-22-2008 10:26 AM

A quick wave... We're on our way back today. Can't be a moment too soon--my pants are feeling like they fit instead of being too loose. :yikes:

I am really looking forward to getting back to my routine!

CD, I'm glad you enjoyed the zoo. I only went there once when I lived there. It is odd to think of you with hiking poles on Lombard St, but hey--whatever works! :)

meowee, the weather is starting to turn cold and gray here in New England, too. I'm looking forward to the southern sun!

I did make it to the swimming pool here yesterday, but living in Fla. has spoiled me. The pool seemed cold, and I didn't enjoy it.

I'll try to make it a good day, Freda!

Hi I'm getting ready to go to camp with the fifth graders. Lots of hiking and outside activities. The food won't be my regular healthy stuff, but I probably won't eat much of anything because it's really not anything I'm really interested in eating.

Laurie thanks for the kick to get moving your right I keep stalling. I guess I'm my worst enemy. Each day is a new beginning.

Freda- I hope it doesn't snow while I'm at camp. It's really getting cold here. I'll be out of touch for a couple days no computer at camp.

have a great day everyone. Lori

CountingDown 10-23-2008 01:23 AM

Lori - pack some healthy snack alternatives. In my experience - those outdoor events really make me hungry. And, if less healthy alternatives are at hand ...

Jay - yes - you are spoiled by swimming in FL. Cold MI lakes are one of the reasons I rarely swim. Brrrrrr.

Freda - glad you are getting in your exercise! It really does help.

Today was hiking in Golden Gate Park (more pole use). We hiked over to Ocean Beach. It really is a lovely park! I think we totalled around 7 miles today.

Then, tonight we went to a movie - Bottle Shock - a true story about the CA wine industry. It was quite good. It was a fun theater where they have couches and chairs and tables, and serve food. A whole new take on pizza and a movie.

Hope you all had a fun day! The 83 degree temp was a bit much for me, but I'm not gonna complain - we are supposed to go home to SNOW :(

meowee 10-23-2008 07:06 AM

Speaking of snow -- our first nor-easter of the season managed to just give us rain and very high winds -- today, still windy but it is supposed to turn sunny. Can't tell right now since it's still dark out there.

Going to do a major mall-crawl today -- not just because it's Thursday  Our Canadian dollar is dropping like the proverbial rock right now (as of yesterday it was down to US$0.80) so this is probably a good time to buy, buy, buy (Walmart is advertising DDR for Wii at C$70 today) -- before the stores start adjusting the cost of stuff imported from points south of here. May have to do it alone though because LouLou isn't feeling too well today (she just called).

Other than that -- I've gained 4 to 5 pounds since my return to shooting insulin a week ago -- Insulin is notorious for causing fluid retention. Since I have to keep the blood sugar levels under control, guess I'd better just get more diligent about the weight loss efforts.

Have a Thrilling Thursday everybody . . . :grouphug:

the slim me 10-23-2008 09:21 AM

Good Morning all, I woke up this morning at 3:30 with a headache, stomach upset..yuck! Called in sick to work.

Lori, I hope you have good weather and the snow is delayed untill you get back. I agree with Laurie. Those trips and the weather make me want to eat! pack lots of fruit and some good snacks to get you through. That, plus all the exercise, and you should be fine.

Laurie, Sounds like you're having a great time. Take lots of pictures to share!

Jay, I miss it when I get out of my routine too. We are such creatures of habbit. Now, if we can make those GOOD habits...

Linda, Sorry you're having problems with the insulin. But you're right, the BS has to be controlled. Does the water rentention stop after your body gets used to it?

Jude, Hi. how are you doing?

Freda

hijude 10-23-2008 09:45 PM

Just stopping in to say hi. Hope you are all having a good week.
CD: I wish I was out in that 80 degree weather. Afraid I would be at the pool though and not hiking.
Jay it is great to hear you talk about the fit of the clothes. I kept a good weight going in my life until I introduced the stretch material and elastic. At one time there was no such thing as stretchy clothing. :rollpin:
Here is to you Lori for taking the kids camping. Wow that is huge and a lot of exercise to boot. I agree with CD that I would be packing some healthy snacks. The stress level would be way too high for me. :twirly:
Freda I have to say that I am so not motivated to exercise. I am the one that you have to take kicking and screaming all the way but when I am done I love it. Go figure. :exercise:
I am on the west coast and the weather has been lovely and sunny which is great for the mood.
I am working on an article on optimism and some positive affirmations. It is a great article. I am sorta middle of the road optomist/ pessimist. So not completely off the deep end. It is a journey. Funny how life always looks so much better when we are making a concious effort with our health.
Food plan has been good so far today. I made it over that 5pm lull that I always have. Went for a nap on my break.
It worked. Have any of you heard of HALT?? Never get too hungry, too angry, too lonely, or too tired.
Had to pass all the Halloween treats to get where I was going but after my nap there was no problem. :sklol:
So I hope to have a good day behind me and success will breed more success.
I am going to get back to the gym next week. By then my jaw should be ok and not feel sore with every step I take. :sumo:
I would like to move my tracker pretty soon. :goodscale

Nite all.....Jude

CountingDown 10-23-2008 11:53 PM

Linda - hope you enjoyed the mall crawl. I thought of you every time I walked the mall with my MOM in TN :)

Freda - hope you are feeling better soon. I was out of work two days with this nasty bug last week.

Jude - hope you can get back to they gym soon - in the mean time, grab a stretchie band and some hand weights and do what you can :) I agree with you about success OP breeding optimism in other areas of my life. It really does spill over.

Jay - happy travel!!

We had a lovely day in SF. We hiked Land's End, then had a picnic lunch at the Arboretum and finished the day at the new Academy of Sciences - which includes a planetarium, aquarium, 3 story rain forest and living roof.

Attachments include:
view from Land's End, Labyrinth (DH) at Land's End, Rainforest, Living Roof, and Golden Gate bridge.

Hope you all had a wonderful day!

JayEll 10-24-2008 07:15 AM

Hi everybody!

I'm happy to be back home. I'm not up to speed yet, though. As for weight--don't ask. I did manage to drop a pound overnight, which is typical, but there are more to be dealt with... It was great to be back at the gym yesterday, although I didn't do much.

No more traveling this year! I've had it. I never thought I'd say something like that.

CD, thanks for the wonderful pictures! Makes me "homesick." One of the things I like about living in the Tampa Bay area is that it's like SF in many ways. Beautiful bridge, ships and boats, lots of cultural activity.

Jude, yes, HALT has been very useful to me! Helps me to realize where anxiety is really coming from--sometimes it's as simple as that.

flowingair, how was the camping trip? Camping is something I gave up several years back. I went on a two-week study trip in the Sonoran Desert, and it was rough camping out the whole time. I was so distracted by my physical discomfort that I missed a lot. Anyway, that was the end.

Freda, are you feeling better? I hope so.

meowee, I don't remember that you went back on insulin--I must have missed that. :( My mother was type II diabetic, and later in her life she lost weight such that she no longer had to take insulin. Did you enjoy the mall crawl? Not my idea of a good time...

Hi to all our other readers out there! :cheer2:

Jay

meowee 10-24-2008 08:15 AM

Good Morning . . . :grouphug:

Looks like this will be our last day of sunshine for about a week . . . on the good side though, temperatures are supposed to stay in the low double digits (low 50s F).

Another "on the good side" seems that 3 pounds of www left me overnight last night. :dunno: I'll take it.

Nothing exciting for me except a few more errands to run while the sun is actually shining. See you later.

the slim me 10-24-2008 09:52 AM

Good Morning all. I am feeling much better today. Yesterday was a total bust. The stomach thing lasted the day and seemed to slow down last night. So I was totally OP yesterday!! ha!! NOT the way to lose weight.

Laurie, Thinks for the pictures of the beautiful scenery. So lovely there.

Jay, always good to be home, isn't it? I like traveling, but I miss my routine after awhile.

Linda, Enjoy that sunshine that is left!

Jude, I have to say that I think motivation to do something is highly overated! I think that it's much easier to just have a set time and just do it. It becomes a habit after awhile. And you do feel so much better afterwards.

make it a good day, Freda

hijude 10-24-2008 07:03 PM

Good point Freda. I think you may be right. I go to work because it is something that I have to do. Might just say that every weekday at 10am I am expected at the gym.
I will get going again on Monday. :carrot:
My food plan has been pretty good so am happy with that. The odd slip but getting better all the time.

CD loved your pics. What nice weather. What is that thing your DH was walking in and why??

Jay are you going to share any pics with us?

Meowee I hope you can get back to the point that you do not need the insulin. Good luck with the exercise and weight loss. We are heading into the wrong time of year for outdoor things....

Have a good day everyone. I am REALLY struggling with this d@#m Halloween candy this afternoon. Hate this. May need a nap.

Jude

JayEll 10-25-2008 11:19 AM

Hello!

Jude, I didn't take any pictures! I don't own a camera... I just haven't made the transition into digital.

Well folks, without saying for which party or candidate, I am doing political action today. I've spent some time this morning contacting voters about early voting and voting by mail, and this afternoon I'm going to be out on a street corner with some signs... I think we should all get out there and vote this election! Millions of people don't, every time, and it could make a huge difference. :soap:

And on other fronts, I'm still working away here... But one of my clients forgot to put my last invoice in for processing. I'm really irritated because this isn't the first time... O the joys of the freelance life...

It's bright and sunny today! :cheer:

Jay

CountingDown 10-25-2008 01:12 PM

Hi all - a quick fly by.
Linda - 3 lbs. :woohoo: Congrats!!!!

Jude - a labyrinth is a sort of maze that is usually walked in contemplation, meditation or prayer. There is a cool labyrinth at Grace cathedral too. The one at Land's End has been there for quite a long time, and although it is makeshift - done with rocks found in the area, it is well maintained :) It holds a special place in my heart. 1.5 years ago we visited the labyrinth for the first time. There are many stairs going down to it's location. I was terrified that I would get down there and not be able to get back up, so - while everyone else enjoyed the scenery and walked the labyrinth, I snapped a few pictures and started the trek back up to the top - just so the rest of the group wouldn't have to wait for me to stop every couple flights and catch my breath. It was one of those "DUH" moments for me - I couldn't lie to myself any longer - my weight WAS affecting my quality of life. It became one of those pivotal moments for me on my journey.

Freda - I so understand the weight loss with the stomach bug. For me, although it wasn't a great beginning to the trip, it really helped me start at the bottom of my maintenance range. And - so far - I have maintained the loss. But, not changing my ticker yet - two 3 more days of vacation to go ...

Jay - how disappointing about a delay in getting paid. Hopefully they can get the invoice through quickly. Glad you are back safe and sound. And - good for you - working for your favorite candidate. Florida is still a hot spot. Michigan seems to be a foregone conclusion.

We visited the Oakland rose garden yesterday and went sailing :) It was quite fun, but I think I got a bit too much sun - then again, we are going home to snow, so maybe not ;)

Hope you all have a GREAT weekend!

Laurie

JayEll 10-26-2008 12:40 PM

CD, I love the Berkeley rose garden! Was it wonderful? I love sailing on the Bay, too--as long as I don't have to work too hard.

Years ago I took a basic sailing course on SF Bay--I loved it! But one day it was quite blustery, and we were doing the "man overboard" drill--where one has to toss a life ring over, then circle back and pick it up again under sail. Well--I missed that ring five times, and by the sixth time around, I was getting seasick... Arrrrr... :p It was awful! After that I learned two things: ginger capsules half an hour before going out, and always carry chocolate, preferably dark chocolate. For some reason, the latter works if you're starting to get sick. I haven't had to try it since, though--and I had no chocolate that terrible day.

I agree with Freda--exercise has to be an appointment just like anything else, at least to start. If I had waited until I "felt like exercising," I never would have gone.

Standing out there on the street with signs was interesting. There are always a few folks, regardless of party, who have to yell that "______ sucks!" or worse, or have to flip you off. I always yell back, "God bless you!"

Jay

Sunday for me is weigh in day and I am down 2.5 pounds. I tried to change my tracker but I think you have to be a rocket scientist or something. :sp:
Having a quiet day here. Am going to get some cooking done for the week. Chili etc. I am following that FAA plan and it is tough and I have not been 100% but I can see life without sugar in it. Amazing!!!:cheer2:

Have a great Sunday everyone. I like the sound of the ladybrinth. I should build one in my back yard. :dust:
Cheers Jude

It was the Berkeley rose garden today (Oakland garden on Friday). Beautiful - even in October. Good thought about ginger and chocolate. I do get motion sickness fairly easily. Fortunately, the winds were very calm for our jaunt.

Linda - I hope things turn out OK for your family.

Jay - I admire your commitment to stand out there and be heckled. And - I LOVE your response!

Jude - 2.5 lbs!!!! That is AWESOME!!!!!

Well, gotta fly - we have to leave for the airport at 4 a.m., so we are heading out for dinner, then packing and bedtime :)

I should be able to catch up with everyone on Tues. night.

Hope you had a GREAT weekend!

hijude 10-27-2008 02:02 AM

Did someone mention ginger and chocolate??? I am so hanging on by a thread here with this sugar withdrawal. Yikes.
I know when I start crying about anything and everything that is what it is about. :bb:
I know all about addiction till it comes to my own. I am missing my seratonin high I guess. Need to get off my butt and focus on something else.
Feels like I have lead in my feet. Will go to the gym in the morning and that should help.
Hope no one says boo to me at work tomorrow. I have a very stressful job dealing with the public all day. Most of whom can barely speak English. :?:
Looking to be a very long week. I do have the week of Remembrance day off so will have to just focus on that..
Hope everyone had a good weekend. Sorry for the whine but it is either whine or dine....!! Should get smoother sailing in about a week I hope. Jude

meowee 10-27-2008 05:01 PM

My day has been pretty boring compared to the weekend -- but I'm afraid I have done a little "over-dining" :o

Using my laptop at the moment and the slightly smaller than normal keyboard is driving me  Everytime I try to type and "a", I hit the capslock instead.

Tomorrow is another day . . . hope it's a good one . . . :s:

Well - I''m a bit jet-lagged - I really hate changing time zones by 3 hours. And leaving the house at 4 a.m. didn't help the situation much - but - I am home :)

We drove through snow showers to get here - which was majorly depressing. I'm missing California already!!!

I waded through the mail, paid bills online, and am in process of doing laundry. Yup - sounds like I'm back in the routine already.

And - I am thrilled to announce that all of the microbrewries and restaurants were balanced out by the 30+ miles of hiking/walking that we did - because I am still below 125 after 9 days in the bay area. :D

Last night was Ethiopian fare - a favorite of ours. There is just something about eating with my hands that makes me smile

In some ways, I may never grow up ;)

Hope you all had a great day. I gotta go fold laundry and ...

hijude 10-28-2008 03:06 AM

CD who is in San Francisco? Your kids? Sound like you had a wonderful holiday. Next time we are all coming...

JayEll 10-28-2008 11:04 AM

meowee, I sure hope you're feeling better and things are settling down!

Jude, are you getting past the sugar withdrawal?

CD, I'm sure the snow showers were not what you wanted as a welcome home from SF. But :congrat: on the weight! Wow! Wish my trip to Mass. had been like that. I was up 4-1/2 pounds when I got home. Two of those are gone now, but I know the rest will take longer.

It just seems to be a fact of life that I can gain in 1 week of mindless eating what will take 3-4 weeks to take off again. I didn't walk any 30 miles in Mass., that's for sure!

The slim me, and hello to all the others who are reading... c'mon in and post with us!

I'm behind on work, as usual, only it's worse because of the trip to Mass. :( :book2:

Hope you all have a great day!

Jay

meowee 10-28-2008 03:05 PM

Hi there . . .

I was up way too early this morning and consequently I just got up . . . for the second time. Do feel that the whole day has been wasted though. No great loss from the weather angle -- still raining and very windy, but quite mild for this time of year. As much as I'd like to see some sun, I know it will come at the cost of :brr:

Oh well . . . see you all later.

gailr42 10-28-2008 07:51 PM

Just a quickie here - we are back from Italy. Great trip, NINE hour time difference and we are having trouble readjusting.

Anyway...We climbed the leaning tower of Pisa!!!!!!! What a view from up there. I was so proud of myself for being able to do it at all. My legs were like jelly when I got back down and pretty sore the next day, but that was all.

CountingDown 10-28-2008 08:13 PM

Gail - :woohoo: glad you are back! And - congrats on the climb. I'm sure it feels great to challenge yourself like that - and know that you are older, but fitter NOW! I'm not gonna complain about 3 hrs difference - 9 hours!!!! - my body would be in total rebellion!

As much as I love traveling - you would think I would get used to this. I should have taken an extra day of work (like DH) but this is a busy and stressful time of year to be gone at all.

Linda - you are right - I'm already mourning the lack of sunshine. I think I would prefer cold and sun to gray and - well mid 30s isn't really warm - is it? We got more flakes today, but nothing lingered over a couple hours. I hope it warms up for the trick-or-treaters on Friday.

Jay - I'm betting that getting back on plan and to the gym will have those couple extra lbs gone soon. It was much harder for me when I went to TN. Taking DH with me and splitting entrees EVERY time really helps me keep the calories under control. I try to do a 1/3 - 2/3 split - where I eat about a third of whatever we order. I still don't have any kind of satiety sensor that stops my eating naturally. I eat until the plate is empty :o

And - since DH love microbrewery crawls, I either share his, order smaller glasses, or even order herbal tea and taste his beer.

I do wish that calorie counts on menu items were mandatory for all restaurants. I think there are many times where what sounds like a healthy choice ends up being way more caloric than we could have imagined.

Jude - my oldest son and his wife live in Oakland. She is a math teacher and he is in seminary in Berkeley and also works part time as a hospital chaplain in SF. He will graduate in May. We were surprised to hear the kids talk of staying there. Previous discussions were around relocating to the Pacific Northwest when he graduates.

Time will tell, I guess. DH and I pretty much keep our opinion to ourselves, though - when they mentioned they might like the Chicago area - we couldn't hide our delight. We LOVE to visit Chicago as well.

I'm bushed - getting up at 5:30 this morning was rough. My body said - WHAT - 2:30? Are you CRAZY? I am gonna enjoy a glass of wine and then try to get to bed early.

Hope you all had a wonderful Tuesday! Jay - send some warmth up here if you can! Brrr.

hijude 10-28-2008 10:29 PM

Hi everyone.
Nice to hear about your family CD. You look way to young to have a son that is married etc. Hope they end up in a place that you enjoy visiting and is not too far away.
Well Jay I am working on the sugar withdrawal. This is tough going. This food plan is sorta like AA in the sense there is just no sugar allowed and everything you eat is balanced with protien and so your food digests in balance. :spin:
Yesterday did not go well. I got into a mood and it lasted all day. I remembered this morning that when you push down one addiction another one will often raise up. That would be my addicition to my kids - Alanon. Man I could spend a lot of times in a lot of meetings. It makes it easier when you start to put all the pieces together. :cp:
Someone said to me to stop trying to go to the well when it is dry. Hence quit trying to get support from the family when they do not have it to give. I need to give them a break. :rollpin:
So I guess I will just work on my own stuff for now. :write:
That should keep me busy.
But I have lowered my sugar level way down from what it was. I will be a lot better when Halloween is over. I can not turn a corner here without candy everywhere.
I have got my meals down great. Have all the portions under control. It seems like too much to eat sometime but though I am full there is this sense of something not what I wanted. Sneaky business this addiction.
I certainly will not starve to death between meals.

Hope everyone is doing well. Time change is so exhausting and I agree CD that you do need a day or so to recover. You sound like you have a very busy job.
I am at work so I best get back to mine.
Night all.....Jude :tied:

meowee 10-29-2008 08:55 AM

Good Morning . . .

Still pretty mild around here, but the forecast says the sun will be coming out this afternoon and (as expected) the temperatures will be falling. Can't decide if that's good news (the sun) or bad news (the cold).

Glad you had such a great vacation, GAIL, but glad to see you back, too.

For anybody that's interested, I just set up the ACCOUNTABILITY thread for NOVEMBER up in the sticky area.

See you later . . . :carrot:

hijude 10-29-2008 06:37 PM

Well my buddy here at work just brought me a huge donut. Now she is not trying to sabatoge me as no one would know that I am trying given my daily enjoyment for sugar in the past.
I am just getting started but she has heard me say before I am trying to stay out of the sugar. :(

But the good thing is that after she left I was on the phone about a meeting in FA and I told her about this thing sitting on my desk. I made a commitment to throw it out and so after I got off the phone I took it to the kitchen and put it in the huge garbage can. No going back from that.
But you know I opened up the baggie she brought it in and was just going to break off a bite. Broke it off but stopped. Huge thing for me.
Did not take that bite. But I am still feeling it as the saying goes. :T
But I did not eat any....:faint:
That was a first in a very long time. Today I am doing it hour by hour. Place is littered with Halloween candy. :?:

I hope to make it through the day. I am going to go at dinner time to Sears and buy my Clinque as they have their bonus gift on. That will be nice to do.
This taking control of ones life is very hard work.
:dust:

ciao ....Jude

CountingDown 10-29-2008 08:20 PM

Jude - :o Thank you for your kind words.!

Hang in there with the sugar thing. It IS hard, but you can do it.

I make sure I keep healthy snacks (lots of raw veggies, Wasa & Laughing Cow, V8 Juice, nuts, LF crackers, herbal tea, coffee with SF syrups, even SF hard candy and the like around my office at all times.

I had to give up the "free food" at work, which I had never realized was a typical part of my day. I made it a rule that I follow, thus - I don't have to think about it - no free food at work - period - no exceptions.

I work at "Central Office" where we have meetings involving school administrators, board members or community members almost every morning and afternoon. So - left over cookies, bagels, muffins, and donuts are plentiful almost every day of the week.

Can you believe that I never really thought about how many calories were in those oversized bakery muffins! They were really hard for me to pass by the first few months, but - I promise - it does get easier. And again - having healthy alternatives really, really does help.

I'm too old to do suffering and deprivation - but healthier choices - that I CAN do :)

Happy hump day all!

Hey!

gailr42, what a great thing! Italy! Tower of Pisa! You'll have to tell us more once you recover... 9 hours... We missed you around here!

CD, your trip sounds wonderful to me. Someday I'll get back to SF Bay for a visit. I'm glad that I work out of an office in my home, because the snack situation is under control here. Can't eat what isn't here. Yeah, those big muffins... argh... and if you read the label, a serving size is 1/2 muffin on some of those! Tricky deal.

the slim me, where are youuuuu? I hope you're feeling better now.

flowingair... C'mon back!

meowee, what's going on with you other than the brrrrrr weather?

hijude, good for you in passing up that donut! :yikes: I'm wishing I had passed up a few of those things on my trip a week ago. I didn't, and now I'm having to deal with it. Fortunately I do like the foods I eat. Baby carrots go a long way with me!

More work today... I'm making headway, and one project has kind of stalled (not on my end) so that gives me a little breathing room to catch up. I'm going to do a little political action Saturday (no, I will not say for whom!)--Florida is still in a dead heat, so everyone is hustling on both sides.

Have a good one day at a time! :book2:

Jay

Hi All, Just been terribly busy. Always glad to read the posts and find out how everyone is doing though.

Jude, Good work on dumping the donut!! it takes awhile, but I have little trouble now. It's just not worth it. But like Laurie said, have something there that you can eat. When I feel most deprived and most tempted is when I'm hungry anyway.

Linda, It's cold here but I think the sun was out yesterday. When I work I don't always see outside. And working 12 hours, I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. It is supposed to be nice this weekend though, in the 50's.

Gail, You climbed the tower! Way-to-go!!! Can you imagine being able to do that a year ago? Tell us about the trip.

Laurie, I'll cross my fingers that your son and DIl end up somewhere close. Chicago would be nice, huh? Great place to visit, not too far....I know what you mean about staying away from food at work. There is always something there. If I had just a "taste" of everything brought in it would a disaster! I do have something occasionally though. It has to be really special and i have a really small piece. I agree about eating in restaurants. You can try to find the best alternative on a menu but you never know what you are going to get. A piece of broiled fish will come swimming in butter.

Jay, I'm sure you will get rid of those unwanted pounds quickly!! Traveling can be a real challenge.

Make it a good day, Freda

Freda - hope things slow down for you soon. Hope you are enjoying our warm (er) weather :)

Jay - glad you got a bit of a respite from the work load. I'm betting that - now that you are back home - those vacation lbs. will be gone soon. I'm actually thankful that MI seems to be "settled" regarding the election. It makes life a bit more tolerable around here. We were getting so many survey calls that the phone was practically ringing off the hook. Once one of the candidates admitted that MI was a lost cause, things have quieted down considerably.

We have a couple hot topics in MI though, so there are still SOME of those pesky survey calls. Glad I have caller ID!

Jude - hope you had a great day - and that the scale rewards you for your perseverance - you are doing so well!

Linda - hope the snow is still far away!

Hi to everyone else - hope you had a fun and OP day!
