Good Morning,
Linda, Glad to see you back. You were missed! Laurie, The weather is beautiful, isn't it? We haven't gotten a frost yet, but I know it's comming. Every area has it's good points and bad. I love small towns (having lived in one growing up). Let us know how you like the new workout tapes. Flo, Yes, we are having nice weather. I'm glad because i'm out every evening at some soccer field or other. Bother the Grands play soccer twice a week, and of course it's on different days. Jay, got rid of those pesky little critters yet? Make it a good day, freda |
Another beautiful morning in northern NS . . . hope things are glorious in your neck of the woods too.
After I got home yesterday and started playing around with the computers again I decided I'd have to 'go to town' again today to find a book -- something along the lines of "An Idiot's Guide to Vista for Dummies" might be appropriate. Other than that -- SSDD -- see you later  |
The electronic device arrived today, and I have it plugged in. The instructions warn that you may see more bugs at first, because they will be driven out of the walls. Sure enough, I saw two tiny roaches where I've never seen any before. We do have roach traps down, though, so that should take care of them. They tell you to keep using traps and such for a couple of weeks.
As for the rodent interlopers, I guess I'll see tonight whether they are still gnawing. They (I think there's more than one) were around last night. I found the place under the house where they made their way in, but I'm not about to go under there. Besides, until they are gone, it can't be sealed up. On another note--I'm going to be off on a trip come Monday but I'll still be checking in now and then. Jay |
Help!!! I'm feeling a lot like an idiot right this sec. I'm trying to input my measurements on FitDay, and it's telling me one or more are "invalid" - Then, I try to start a new thread here on 3FC, and I can't even figure out how to begin my sorry ol' subject! Someone please help me navigate here!
|
Fitday - make sure you are entering just numbers with no "
Example Neck - 11.5 Waist - 31.25 etc. As far as adding a new thread, click on the forum you want to post in, then click on the purple link near the top (right hand side fo the page) that says forum tools. There will be a link to post a new thread. |
Jay - wow, those really are working fast! I hope you have wonderful trip out to see your sister!
Flowing - I'm looking forward to getting a lot of yard work done this weekend. We are supposed to get some rain, but it should stay cool. Freda - ah, yes, soccer games. I kinda miss going to them. I might have to use my fre athletic pass and attend some of the HS games. Linda - you are braver than I am. I really don't like Vista at all - I still have XP on all of my computers. I did buy my Mom a computer with Vista on it though. It seems to be working OK for her (she doesn't do much except word process, a few games, and surf the Net.) Gotta fly - DH says supper is ready. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! |
Ahhh . . . I've made it through some of this massive website, and got my info up on FitDay - only took all rainy afternoon/evening! This is quite a site! I've been in and around, and tomorrow I'll probably be lost all over again - but thank you - just for knowing what spazzing is like.
Confession: After I interrupted here w/my frustration over/FitDay and not being able to find a place to start a new thread, I forgot where I posted my question - Crap, I'm babbling. Too long at the computer. A great thing - Was told yday, I was, "the best teacher ever!" Sure, they're only preschool kids, but I felt wonderful!!! So glad I stumbled onto this website! |
 Here's a link to your thread Corrine . . . http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=151395 . . . BTW, take a look at the little tab at the top of the thread page called "Thread Tools". You can "subscribe" to a thread and then when you come to 3FC, just click on USERCP on the main navigation line (the purple stripe at the top of every page, just below the chicks) and it will give you a clickable list of all your favourite places that have had new posts since the last time you looked.
And a great big Good Morning for everybody . . . :grouphug: . . . The Weather Station jsut told me that IKE is doing lots of nasties in Texas right now . . . :crossed: for a safe day for everybody. |
:welcome: Renee - congrats on the best teacher comment - that is awesome! Fitday can be confusing when you start, but you will get the hang of it.
Same for 3FC - come back often, at it will get easier. Linda - hope you are having a good day! We have had rain all day. I cleaned and did laundry and my usual Saturday stuff. I did put together a wonderful concoction in the rice cooker. It is smelling yummy! Something about fall and rainy weather, I just like warm comfort foods. Jay - hope the packing for your trip is going well - and that the critters have up and left! Hi to everyone else - stay safe and dry!!! |
Good Morning -- not so nice here today; overcast and muggy -- good day for doing household chores I think.
|
Hi to all,
Jay I hope you get those critters. It's raining cats and dogs here. We have flood warnings and tornados. They say our weather is from IKE. Gas prices are outrageous. |
Hi All, I'm Pandora, I know some of you from other groups...but I guess this should be home...since I'm definitely 50+.
Its really struck me that as I get older weight loss seems more related to activity than just strictly to food. Last month DH and I went on an "active" vacation, Yellowstone and the Tetons with a group from Backroads. I ate plenty, even some desserts which I have been mostly avoiding, but I was hiking every day, much of it with altitude gain. (Here in the midwest we hike flat!) I got back and had lost 5 pounds in eight days, and when I again took my diuretic (which I skipped for the day before and day of our flights home) I dropped another 4 almost immediately. Since then my activity level has picked up and my weight loss has also picked up, although it is definitely not linear. Of course this weekend we got 8 inches of rain, and I was much more sedentary than I have been... |
Hi PANDORA . . . :welcome: . . . and congratulations on that weight loss.
We are having a return to the hot and stickies of summer today -- also very windy and threatening to rain on and off. Our little brush with Ike, I guess. Our gas prices took a major upward hike over the weekend too. |
Hi all - a quick fly-by. School meeting tonight :(
Pandora - WELCOME! Glad you joined us! flowing, we got rain, but not much wind and no power outages up here. It is lovely today. Gas is up to $4.19 :( Linda - sorry the rain headed your direction - I hope you didn't have a lot of outdoor activities to do today. Jay - hope you had a safe flight! Hi to everyone else! Gotta fly! More tomorrow (I hope). |
Drastic change in temperatures and wind direction overnight, but it's still pretty cloudy out there. Hey, most exciting things on my agenda for today are Laundry (what fun), Packing (for the little trip to NC), and a trip to the drugstore. Wowee :dizzy: Hope the rest of you have a fun day planned. |
Good Morning all, It's still damp here but at least it's not raining. I am one of the lucky ones that didn't get a flooded basement. I know a lot of people who did. what a mess. I haven't been as active this week either. I am keeping the "Grands" for a week while their parents are out of town. Running them back and forth to school (1 a 1/2 day and the other full day) is taking a lot of time. And getting 2 ready for schoo in the morning!! I think that should count as exercise!
Welcome Rin, Looking forward to getting to know you. Welcome also Pandora. I agree, exercise is important to any weight loss program, but maybe a little more so for us. As you get older you lose muscle mass and that makes it harder to lose and to keep weight off. So, exercise and weights. Linda, Have a wonderful trip to NY. Make it a good day, Freda |
Welcome Rin and Pandora. Everyone on this site is so supportive.
I've been on my elliptical machine 3 days in a row. I plan to keep this up. I'm back on South Beach cleaning out my system and feeling good. Counting it sounds like you missed the major part of this storm. The weather was beautiful today. I wanted to be out hiking instead of working. Hi to all! did Jay get rid of her critters? Lori |
Another fly-by :(
Conference out of town - no internet - finally home and dog tired- thinking of you all Hope you all had a WONDERFUL day! Off to catch some much-needed sleep! |
Greetings to all from the area of the Cimarron Mts. and San Juan Mts.
My sister and her husband live in an incredibly beautiful house with a view of the San Juan peaks right out the window. At night there are no lights whatsoever in any direction... and there is no sound other than wind in the trees... My sister is an equestrian rider and trainer, and has always been trim and fit. I spent the day with her today, and now I know why she is so trim and fit. She never stops to eat much! Went all morning until 1 p.m. on a bowl of cereal (I had two snacks). Then we ate lunch and went until 6 p.m. with only a few crackers and some iced tea. I took some work with me, so I wasn't just sitting around. And, at one of the places she was teaching, a full gym was available to me, so I got in 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer. By supper I was ravenous! But they eat healthy generally, so I'm not being tempted to overindulge. I had a small steak tonight with a salad, oil and vinegar dressing, and green beans. Tomorrow my sister and I are driving to Pagosa Springs where there is a Buddhist retreat center I want to visit, and then we're backtracking to Durango. The next day we'll take the narrow-gauge railway from Durango to Silverton and probably back again, and then drive back to her home. As for the rodent problem in Fla.... the electromagnetic device doesn't seem to have done much except make them avoid the walls (but not the floors). An animal removal company is coming tomorrow... Enjoy! Jay |
Hi . . .
Just a quick stop-in . . . busy day getting ready for tomorrow's trip to North Carolina. I may be able to pop-in over the weekend, but if I don't make it -- have a good one. |
Them gnawing little mousies sure can make a lot of noise in your walls! something about the walls amplifies the sound. I heard something on the roof about the size of a bear. I went running out to see what the heck it was and it was our cat strolling around on the roof.
You all were talking about tools a while back. I would love to have a power nailer. I cannot hit a nail straight to save my soul. I waste nails and time...I just don't want it attached to the air compressor because it is too much trouble to move the whole rig around. I watch all the home improvement shows and I see all these things I could do if I could drive a nail. Jayell, what do you do with your power washer? My DH has one that he uses to clean his lawn mower and other yard equipment. I am now wondering if there is anything I might find it useful for. We are gearing up for our trip to Italy in about a month. My son and his family are there for six months for his work, so we are taking the opportunity to visit. My DIL says there are many little shops within walking distance of their apt which sell baked goods, deli stuff, all food, of course. Yum. I am planning on walking to everything to make up for all the Italian bread and salami I intend to eat. I have been studying Italian. It's fun. Io non parlo l'Italiano. |
Jay - glad you made it safe and sound. Thanks for sharing your insights regarding your sister's routine. Those thin folks definitely are different from the rest of us! Organically - really.
Linda - hope you have a WONDERUL trip!! Gail - your trip sounds AWESOME! I can't wait to hear about it! We are heading to the lake Michigan shore this weekend for some hiking and microbrewery visitation. It should be a fun weekend and a good balance between activity and drink and food. I hope everyone is having a great week! Happy "hump day"! |
Jay-Sounds like you're having a great trip. I hope the mice or other creatures are gone when you return.
Gail- Italy is one of my dream trips. I'm anxious to here all about it Counting- Have afun time hiking and microbrewing. I love a nice microbrew- so much better than the mass produced beers. Beer is definitely a non no for me as I'm on the South Beach induction again. Hi to everyone, have a great Thursday. Lori |
Quick fly-by to say hello. I will be back online on Sunday night (hopefully). Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!
|
Hey everyone!
Yesterday we took the narrow-gauge railway train from Durango to Silverton and back again. What an amazing ride! It was built to connect the two towns during the mining era, and has been kept going ever since. Real old steam engines that burn coal take you through the amazingly beautiful canyon of the Animas River. This is wild Western country! We rode in an open car--had a roof, but was not enclosed on the sides (except about waist high for safety, with a railing--and of course seating, which was cushioned and comfy). It meant getting a bit of soot, and it's rather cool compared to Florida :yikes: but we dressed in layers and were quite comfortable. There is nothing like the spectacular views! And moving at train speed is a wonderful way to see the sights, instead of zipping by them at 60 mph. When we got to Silverton we walked around, had lunch, checked out the shops. I really like being slimmer--I could actually go for a good walk in between train rides and it helped get the kinks out. Today is a day at home, and I am ready for it. We had to drive for two hours to get back to my sister's place, after riding the train all day. :faint: Hope you're all doing well! Jay |
What a nice outting. We traveled by car through that area years ago. I remember how cool it was and how different than what we are used to.
|
And hey, gail! welcome back! haven't seen you around in awhile.
The rodent problem hasn't been solved yet, btw. I guess I'll have to see what's up when I return. We called one animal removal place that came out and said they can't do anything for us. Guess I made a bad choice with that one! Jay |
Oh how I love Morro Bay!!!
Sorry, Jay but I don't like San Francisco! I know all of the advantages of a big city, but they do not appeal to me. I don't like cultural stuff or football. The only thing I liked about it was dim sum!! I am ordering a dim sum cookbook from Amazon. Hi Pals, I'm back; got together with a friend I have not seen in over 20 years! It was great to see her again! But I could have done without the San Francisco thing! OK - back to lying down and recovering! jo |
gailr42, I use my pressure washer to clean the siding on my house. In Florida we get a lot of algae, especially on the north side. The pressure washer is 100 times better than trying to scrub it off by hand, and it doesn't use too much water, either. I have a small model that is electric and cost me $100. Has paid for itself!
Hey Spinymouse! Sorry you don't like SF. Bye for now--it's time for bed here in Colo. Jay |
Hi all - we are back :D The trip was great - we really need to schedule more of these weekend get-aways. We hiked about 8 miles and walked the beach and harbor area for another 5. DH loved the micro-brewery, and they had some really nice vegetarian food choices too :)
Jay - sounds like you are having a GREAT trip! Thanks for posting some of your experiences. Colorado is on my radar for a future trip - we have never been there (except a layover at the airport - which doesn't count). Jo - I LOVE SF! But, we really enjoy doing our own thing there - I love the botanical gardens and GG park, and the beach, and the ethnic neighborhoods, and ethnic restaurants, and so many neighborhood parks! I can't wait to see the new aquarium - it sounds fantastic. Hmmm, I think I am more psyched for our trip next month than I thought, sorry for the ramble ... Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! |
Hi A quick fly by. It sounds like everyone is enjoying their trips. I love San Francisco, but haven't been there in years. I really want to travel once I retire. Have a great week everyone. Lori
|
Good Morning, Sort of cool this morning, and seem like it's constantly damp. At least we're still getting some sun during the day. I'm so annoyed! My back is out again and i'm walking with a limp. Not only embarassing, but painful! And there goes the exercise for awhile, again! At least i can continue my weights. They are my saving grace!
Gail, italy, my dream trip. I'm looking forward to hearing of your experience there. Jay, Isn't it nice being able to move more freely. Makes you remember why you're going through all the agrivation of dieting and exercise, doesn't it? Continue to have fun and let us know all about it. Laurie, It's really hard to find good lf/lc food anywhere, isn't it? Do you have any favorite restaurants? I find it kind of difficult to eat out wityout ourdering a salad or soup. Jo, It's nice seeing old friends again, isn't it? I try to keep in touch but most of us are so busy it's difficult. Worth the trouble though. make it a good day, freda |
Iit was a really great weekend . . . but OMG, I am soooooo tired. Should have tried to do a little more sleeping and a little less talking I guess.
Definitely feels like nap-time, again . . . see you later . . . |
I am  at using the pressure washer to remove algae from the siding. That is one problem we don't have here in the desert.
The trouble with rodents in the attic is that they chew the electrical wiring. Othewise, I wouldn't worry about them. I kind of like hearing them running around up there at night. I know, I'm wierd. Since we haven't had any significant rain for a couple of years, the rodent population has diminished considerably. We went to the peach orchard on Saturday. It is always fun to pick peaches and they are so yummy! I want to make some more peach chutney, but we will probably just eat most of them. I like San Francisco. I grew up in Berkeley ( think I already mentioned that), so I spent plenty of time in SF. Before I was old enough to drive, friends and I took the commuter train. Then we drove. It was safe for kids to do that then. |
Gail - I forgot that you were from Berkeley - DS1 is still at PSR. We are heading out next month for another visit. I can't wait to get out there again. The rose garden and all the GREAT ethnic food and sunsets and well - just FUN!
Linda - oh, for a nap - I'm jealous. It was one of those days where a nap would have been glorious! Freda - I actually like trying mom 'n' pop restaurants rather than chains. They usually are willing to "altar" menu items to my taste. DH and I always split an entree or appetizer so we can mitigate the damage. It is like a scavenger hunt - to find something we both like, feel like, and is healthy. And - it must be our age showing, because we are a LOT bolder about asking for custom items. Can we have xxxx without the yyyy or with zzzz on the side? And, I think it is pretty common these days - many places actually bring the "split entree on two plates or in two bowls. :) The weather is still beautiful here in northern MI - I am trying to soak up every single bit of it while it is here - winter is coming much sooner than I care to admit :yikes: Hope you all had a wonderful day too! |
Yeah, you're definitely weird, gailr42. I think I'll send my rodents over to your house since you like hearing them! I got up yesterday at 3:15 a.m. to catch a 6 a.m. flight to Denver, and now the *&#@^$)*@^% gnawing rodents have awakened me at 3 a.m. here in Florida. I'm just about at my wits' end.
My partner said she thought the electronic repellent device was working... all I can say is, she must be going deaf. Jay |
After sleeping a lot yesterday, I'm finally beginning to feel alive again. Good thing, too since I must get out and about to do some grocery shopping at least. It's going to be a wonderfully cool and sunny day, so after I clean the litter pans and have a shower, I'm outta here. See you later . . . :carrot: |
Good Morning all, Another lovely day here in Michigan. Brisk morning and sunny afternoons.
Linda, Glad that you are back and feeling better. Traveling is fun but exhausting! Take advantage of these beautiful days and get out there and play. Laurie, Yeah, i've noticed that too, that i'm much bolder about asking for what i want. . I even take my own salad dressing to restaurants sometimes. Embarasses my DH but I know a lot of restaurants don't have diet dressing, or not the kind I like. Jay, still not happy with the rodent problem. Hope you find something that works. I'm with you. I hate the little things running around. Mickey Mouse is cute, the rest of them, NOT!! Make it a good day, Freda |
Jay - sorry that the rodents are still a problem :( We certainly have had our share of mouse issues until we got our current cat. She is a Godsend! Glad you made it home safe and sound - and we really missed you!
Linda - glad you are feeling better, and we are sending WONDERFUL weather your way! Freda - Agreed - right now - fall in MI is GLORIOUS! Today was perfect! I am loving that I can still ride my scooter to work and for errands! I know that winter is way too close and I am not taking our fantastic fall for granted. We had another fire outside tonight. Beautiful, clear sky, light wind and the smell of fall in the air - well - and a nice bottle of wine - life is GOOD! Hope you all are having a great week! Miss our MIAs! Happy hump day to all tomorrow! |
Hey folks,
I'm hoping I get some sleep tonight. I'll use my earplugs. Tomorrow a pest company is coming to evaluate the problem. It's probably rats. My cat would take care of it, but he can't get to them. They are in the walls and the floor--haven't made their way into the living space, thank goodness. I just hate this and it's driving me crazy. :( The repellent device does seem to keep them out of the walls more--but it's the gnawing under the floor now... At night and in the wee hours. But I'm done with the repellent device. It works for some, but not in this case. There aren't wires through the floor. I called the number for customer support--the man told me that he knows one guy who ran an extension cord all under his house to carry the repellent field. I said, "I am not going to be doing that." He said, "I didn't think so." Sorry to be so one-topic, but there you have it. I think it's time to take my Geritol and head for the earplugs. Jay |
