Jay - glad you don't have to evacuate I hope you find the right combination to help you get that scale moving down again. I admire your patience and ability to be a wonderful for everyone, regardless of how your plan is going!
Freda - We were more concerned with getting the dog back by us - he has been skunked way too many times. We have a black and white cat that he loves to chase. He just can't seem to figure out that those little black and white critters AREN'T for chasing
Spiny - I saw that rice link. It looks really interesting! I did find a couple Trader Joe's cereals that we like fairly well (usually dry as a snack, but sometimes with our homemade soy milk). I like Wasa crackers too, and the kids like Ak-maks, which I can't get around here.
I'm actually struggling already this week - Low fiber diet and no nuts or seeds allowed until after the "procedure" on Friday. It is actually a NSV for me to realize how much my eating has changed from a year ago. Almost nothing in my cupboard or fridge is allowable this week - and I'm mourning not being able to eat foods that I would have found yucky before this journey began.

Just wanted to say GOOD MORNING while it still is. After a very stormy evening and night, today started out to be absolutely glorious again -- sunny, dry, cool -- but it is starting to cloud over again as the afternoon approaches.
Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking day ahead of them . . .

Jay- sure glad you didn't have to leave your home. I too am struggling up- down -up -down. I know I'm not eating right no time to cook or chop vegetables. Today should be the last day of this project, we should have all the trenches filled, dirt leveled, and the bark down. Then, I plan to really work on my food choices. I haven't gained this summer, but I've lost so little.
Spiney-Sometimes I put fiber one in my salads and it adds texture to my salads.
Counting- I know what you mean about the skunks. We had one walk right up to our fire last year. We just froze and it walked right on by. It's quite an experience.
I've got to get to work. have a great day.

Good Morning, I just finished up my walk. So nice out today. I think it's supposed to be in the 70's. Warm days and cool nights.
Jay, hope you're ok with the weather there.
Laurie, Sorry, must have missed it. What procedure? I know, ater awhile your body gets used to the "good" stuff and actually craves it. Why don't we lsiten to our bodies more often?
Flo, Congratulation on finishing all that work. it really was good exercise and you got something important done! Now you can take more time to plan meals. But don't forget to find some other type of exercise too.
Make it a good day, Freda

Hi, everyone!
Yesterday we had, oh, ten minutes of rain. Less rain than we get in a normal, non-tropical-storm type day! Today it's cloudy and breezy--but the wind direction is changing as Fay continues her do-si-do with Tampa Bay.
Thanks for the good wishes! for storms and also for ups-and-downs with the scale, speaking of do-si-do's.
We'll see whether things change on the weight front in the next week, or whether I'll go around again...
Spiny, is it because most breakfast cereals are too sweet?
See y'all,
Jay

Laurie - good luck getting through this week and with the procedure!
Jay, I just don't like breakfast cereals, some of it is because of the sweetness, yes, also I just don't like eating boring crunchy stuff like that. And I won't eat aspartame, (fiber one has aspartame) because of 1- the taste and 2- I am sensitive to it; makes my tongue feel uncomfortable.
I'd rather have my grains unsweetened and cooked, like people do for dinner: brown rice, barley, etc., and so I do that but it is still a challenge to get in all the recommended fiber. Most servings of fruits and vegetables have about 10% of the recommended fiber so that means 10 servings a day to get all the fiber from those sources. That's a lot of grazing!
Beans, beans, I'm back to the same answer: beans. (as in red beans, pintos, garbanzos)
I hate breakfast food. I just want my freedom, starting at the break of day. Doesn't that sound like an old protest song from 1958?

Jo - LOL, I can hear Woody singing it now Actually, I have grains and vegetable burgers for breakfast quite a bit. I'm not a big cereal with milk (even soy) fan in the morning. Having never eaten breakfast until this last year, I figure that I don't have to eat "traditional" foods. I've been eating a lot of quinoa lately - decent fiber content and good protein source
Jay - glad the storm has missed you so far! Keep us posted.
Flowing - not gaining and losing a little is a successful summer in my book!
Freda - I froze on the way to work today - that cold front was - well - COLD! But, it turned out lovely again. This has been one of the nicest summers I can remember. But, maybe it is because I am actually out doing so many things this year???
Linda -
I'm trying to decide what my last snack will be before the liquid diet tomorrow. Procedure is a simple colonoscopy - which is routine - you all knew this, but for me it was a rude awakening that doctors want to do all these tests when you turn that magic age of "50". UGH. This is the last one, and I am done
I gotta get some work done outside - it is too nice out there!
Enjoy your evening all!

Good Morning all, Another lovely day! I love this weather! Wish I knew somewhere it was like this all the time. I would move in a heart beat!! Got my exercise in yesterday and am headed out right after this. Something about the cool weather just makes it so much easier.
Jo, You can hae anything you want for breakfast! I seldom eat cereal either. Too many other things. Bean buritto?
Laurie, Good luck with the procedure. The prep is a lot worse than the actual precedure. Yelp, turn 50 and they start hitting you with all the "standard" tests. I got a rude awakening when my doctor suggested I take the pneumonia shot. WHAT!! the shot for old people!!
Jay, remain safe. just keep us posted.
make it a good day, Freda

I'm still alive and well and well sloshing my way around the house
Freda - I'm afraid I will be a snowbird when I retire. I always poo-poo'd them when I was younger - but now ...
Jay - hope you are dry!
Have a GREAT Friday everyone

Hello! It rained for 10 minutes today, but it's a bit windier now. We might get some rain. Fay is off to the north, moving west... but weakening.
Hey CD, you can be a snowbird! Come on down, and bring your money!
I moved to Fla. because I couldn't stand more winter, and I couldn't afford two places. So...
I'm really sorry about the bad luck the U.S. track team is having. Good grief!
Have a good Friday! I go to get my hair cut and out to lunch. I hope the place we're going is good--I don't know it, don't know whether it has any online menu...
Jay

Hi . . .
Off for lunch today too -- Chinese -- I'll stay away from the breaded stuff, but not much you can do about the salt -- wasn't my pick. At least there will be lots of vegetables.

Hi Pals -
Yes, Slim Me, a bean burrito is one of my most common breakfast choices. I guess I get all whack-a-mole over the whole thing once in a while, like after I've had to travel (recently) and ran into some breakfast inconvenience. And, I have plans to see a friend whom I haven't seen in about 20 years, and I am very excited about that, except we made plans to stay at a b & b so I have that second "b" to dread. Sometimes I feel that my plans under such circumstances are like someone who has to take their secret stash of crack and needles with them, only more people would understand that, because it is more common, than someone like me who simply wants an eggless burrito in the morning.
Thanks for your support!

A friend was playing guitar at a wine tasting room yesterday where fancy food was served, so I had things made with jerusalem artichoke chips and truffles and squid ink and grape leaves and some kind of spicy pink sauce of unknown content, which was all fine. I passed on the kahlua-cappucino-tiramasu, though. I think tiramasu is one of the most overrated foods. I mean, it's just ladyfingers soaking up some other stuff; what's so special about ladyfingers? It seems to not "fit" in with the other fancy stuff somehow. I don't see much difference between soaked ladyfingers and twinkies.
Well that's my most recent food report. Peaceout.

Jo - I'm with you on the tiramasu. I don't find it very appealing. Though, to be honest, I have really lost my taste for sugary foods.
I find that I have to carry some backup food with me when I travel. Most restaurants have SOMETHING I an eat, but not only.
Jay - hope you like your haircut! And that lunch was spectacular. I'm not sure where we will snowbird to. Nigher of us like the heat, so it might be somewhere a bit further north. Time will tell. Gotta get the economy balanced and see where the kids are at.
I'm a bit groggy so I think a nap is in order.
Have a fun weekend!
