I'm sure Lynn is enjoying herself in real life where ever she is.

Yesterday, I took mom shopping for the first time since May. We had a nice afternoon. DS and his GF came with us which gave me lots of help. We bought a TV and DVD player for the basement. This has been a big spending week for me with the stove, books and now the TV!! I also bought mom some chocolate (dark) covered ginger. Yummy. I had one piece and was it ever good.

I had zucchini and tomatoes cooked together yesterday seasoned with basil and with just a sprinkle of cheese to top it off. So good. I love the chocolate zucchini cake or bread. Here's a recipe I have that's pretty good for a family potluck. I'd make it 2x in a lasagna dish. I, unfortunately have to buy my zucchini. I also have a "Sweet Zucchini Citrus Bread" recipe that's so sweet I'd use it for cake. But it's good. If anyone wants the bread recipe let me know and I'll post it here. It's not healthy enough for losing weight.

Easy Zucchini Pie
1 cup chopped zucchini
1 cup chopped tomato
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2/3 cup biscuit mix
3/4 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease bottom and side of 9-inch glass pie plate. Sprinkle zucchini, tomato, onion and cheese evenly in pie plate. Stir together remaining ingredients with fork until blended. Pour evenly into pie plate. Bake 35 minutes until knife inserted in centre comes out clean. Cool at least 10 minutes before serving. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

As I recall, last we heard from Cat, she had just accepted a new position and had pretty short notice as far as getting her classroom ready. I'm guessing she's barely had time to run to the ladies room much less stop by for a chat. Of course, if she has a laptop she could 'multitask' while she's in there and let us know how she is...........

Happy day to everybody

Hey Bobbi...quick note went back and Lynn said she was leaving on 8/10 for Boston....she had a cold but was feeling better.

I have been on a roll. In 3 hrs have gotten nails done, baked the chocolate fudge cake with dried cherries, baked the brownies, made the pudding for the triffle and deviled 2 doz eggs. Oh and gassed the car. Gas here is down to 3.69 today. Am sitting here because my back is screaming.

House is clean and even vaccumed....but had the cleaning girl do that. Doesn't supervision count.

It is still pouring rain. The big storms are coming in waves but it doesn't let up. Finally going to get our local lakes filled. Think they are coming across the Gulf from Cat's!

wel, back to the kitchen and do the sandwiches....Karen3

Good Morning, Nice and cool outside. Good morning for a walk, before it gets too warm. I walk inside all winter, on the treadmill, so walking outside is a real treat! Still lifting my weights every other day. Read a really interesting article in Prevention about weight lifting. I'm sure all of you allready know how important it is to retain muscle as we get older.

Isabella, I have to buy my zucchini too but love it! Next year i'm planting some, along with some summer squash. Recipe looks interesting, i'm going to give it a try.

YoYo, Yelp, all "B" words. Beautiful, bold....

Karen, How do you lose weight doing all that baking? You must have some kind of will power!! I know i would end up "tasting" way too much!

Linda, Hope today is a better one for you.

make it a good day, freda

A really wet day today. Not just drizzly, light rain but a real down pour that looks like it will last for some time. It's only 15 degrees C. here so it's cool in the house also. No outside exercise for me today!

Karen3, as always my mouth waters when I read your "baking and cooking" posts. I'm a "licker" when I bake so some days I can consume quite a bit if I don't restrain myself.

Tomorrow is my weigh in and I'm always anxious a day or two before. I've been on plan all week so I hope I don't blow it today-I'm having macaroni and cheese for dinner and it's a favorite weakness of mine. I'm still making it though because there are some foods I refuse to give up and I have to train myself to eat a sensible portion of it for the rest of my life. (Potato chips on the other hand are still too sensitive to bring into the house!! I'll have to work on them sometime.)

Okay . . . Good Morning, everybody . . .

Two major (and a few minor ones, too) things that brought ruination to my day yesterday . . .

My kitchen sink self-destructed. The trap had been leaking slowly for a few days (probably longer from the conditions I found under the sink). But yesterday, the faucet literally broke off in my hand, while I was moving it from one side to the other and by the time I got the taps turned off, the ceiling had been washed. I have yet to hear back from the plumber even though I've left two messages and may have to start looking for another plumber. Don't mind that I'm getting some extra exercise carrying water from bathroom to kitchen (split level house; have to go up or down half a flight to 'find' water) for most things, but I'm concerned about doing dishes since I'm nervous about running the dishwasher since I really don't know the condition of the rest of the waterworkings in the kitchen and I do not have laundry tubs.

Then, a major food meltdown occured -- so far no scale effect from my pig out yesterday but it will probably come -- it was really a 'final meal' kind of thing for LouLou -- her doctor finally (after almost a year of testing for other stuff) decided to do the blood tests for Celiac Disease (not one of the first things they seem to think of in a 68 year old woman, I guess) and, from the reading I've done, that sounds like a very likely answer for most of her ongoing problems, even the nasty flare-up of diverticulitis that she definitely has. She won't know for sure for another week when she sees the internal medicine specialist. But from the outcome of the very high gluten meal we had yesterday (pizza, pasta, bread, brownie buffet), sounds like a strong possibility to me -- she had to run to the washroom six times while we were in the restaurant; then she hit every washroom in every store we were in for the next hour; and as well as the ongoing diarrhea she also started throwing up the final two or three stops. So I gave here a bunch of reading material I printed off the www and took her home to bed . . . gee, this diagnosis would even explain the funny sores she gets on her arms, legs, and buttocks that have been going on for years with everybody trying to figure out what she's allergic to. Although I wouldn't wish Celiac Disease on anybody at least it would give her a direction. She is just about at her wit's end with these problems she's been having for so long.

Other than that . . . more of the same crummy weather . . . overcast, cool, and humid yesterday. It poured overnight again. This morning the sun is shining but the humidity is still sitting at 94%. Getting very tiresome.

BOBBI . . . I dug out the Zucchini Relish recipe and will post it in the Recipe thread as soon as I get finished with my normal 3FC rounds -- it is definitely a little sweeter than dill pickles, but no where near as sweet as bread and butter pickles. Has kind of a curry-like taste and is absolutely great with chicken. After re-reading the recipe, I'm actually thinking of some Zucchini and making myself a batch . . . just thinking because it is definitely not a 'quickie'.

Anyway, see you all a little later . . . have a great TGIF . . .

Good Morning!
Karen3, Thanks, I thought of doing that, I was just going by what Meowee said about Lynn's last post date on "Accountability"

Meowee, think I'll look up Celiac Disease, maybe that's my MIL's problem, she has the trots all the time too!

I'm going to be baking the Chocolate zucchine bread today, It would be easy to lessen the calories in this but since it's for a family reunion I won't bother. I don't usually get tempted to eat sweet baked goods, I'm a bread person. I sold my bread maker at a auction so that's not a problem anymore. I could eat a whole loaf of bread with just butter on it easily, yum!
Retiredone...Guess I'd have to put myself into this catagory, I used to love licking the beaters and bowl after my mom finished whipping up some sort of cake batter, real whip cream, etc. Now when I make something, I take the beaters off and instantly run them under water before temptation gets to me.

Freda...don't ya just love Prevention magazine.: It's the only magazine I buy.
Have a good one!

Poor Meowee. What an awful day you had yesterday!! And your friend LouLou didn't fare much better. I hope she soon gets a diagnosis for her problems. My DIL's mother has Crohn's disease and we've had some interesting trips to the local washrooms. I told her she could write a guide to public washrooms in her area. I hope your day just gets better and betterer.

. . . yes, LouLou knows the location of every washroom in the entire county.

Good Morning everybody . . .

I have a useable kitchen water supply again . . . and the good news is that less work was required than I had anticipated. All the water I'd been seeing over the past week or two was coming from the deteriorating tap situation.

Although I would have liked to get new sinks too, they actually talked me out of it. Gotta living in a small community where even the plumbers don't try to talk you into unneccessary (and expensive) work. Of course, I imagine the bill for what they did do, will be enough of a shocker when it arrives. Only down note, my precious little swiveling aerator that I bought years ago won't fit the new faucet so today I go hunting for another one. I seem to recall that it originally came with alternate attachement pieces, but I have no idea where they may have gone.

I did replace my bathroom sink . . . the drain had been giving me some trouble for a long time (very slow to empty). When they tried to remove the sink from the exoisting downpipe, the bottom of the old sink gave up the ghost. So I got my new sink -- just not the one I had planned on.

Things in the feline menagerie seem to be progressing okay except that 'somebody' (I have two possible candidates -- Frick and Blizzard -- both of whom are playing really shy around Sandy and have decided they prefer to live upstairs as much as possible) is using the bathtub as a litter box. Could be worse, at least it's easy to clean up in there.

Nothing much else going on for me . . . hope the rest of you are having a great weekend . . .

Good Morning!
We have a tech coming over this morning to help us with the DVD player. We purchased a big screen HD T.V. last winter and have never used the DVD player, shows what interesting lives we live huh?
DH was on the phone with our dish server for about an hour and he couldn't help us, they were the ones that installed it
I purchased through ebay the 4 DVD collection of "Left Behind" and haven't been able to watch it.
Has anyone that uses zuccini notice the weird film it leaves on the knife and your hands? The hand that holds the zuccini gets a film on it that doesn't wash off very easy. I started using a rubber glove on that hand, anyone experience this?
Meowee...thanks for the recipe, I'll try it.
Retiredone...thanks for the zuccini recipe, I don't buy Bisquick, can I substitute something else?
I gotta go pick apples and get busy, Thursday I made another batch of applesauce and used a new spice I picked up at our local food coop, it's called "Apple Pie Spice". It's yummy!
Have a slimming week-end everyone.

I had to share this, so funny. It was posted in the "Lighten Up" thread by Manick.

Quote:
I was due for an appointment with the gynecologist later in the week. Early
one morning, I received a call from the doctor's office to tell me that I
had been rescheduled for that morning at 9:30 am. I had only just packed
everyone off to work and school, and it was already around 8:45am. The trip
to his office took about 35 minutes, so I didn't have any time to spare. As
most women do, I like to take a little extra effort over hygiene when making
such visits, but this time I wasn't going to be able to make the full
effort.

So, I rushed upstairs, threw off my pajamas, wet the washcloth that was
sitting next to the sink, and gave myself a quick wash in that area to make
sure I was at least presentable. I threw the washcloth in the clothes
basket, donned some clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment.
I was in the waiting room for only a few minutes when I was called in.
Knowing the procedure, as I'm sure you do, I undressed, hopped up on the
table, looked over at the other side of the room and pretended that I was in
Paris or some other place a million miles away.

I was a little surprised when the doctor said, 'My, we have made an extra
effort this morning, haven't we?' I didn't respond. After the appointment,
I heaved a sigh of relief and went home. The rest of the day was normal ...
Some shopping, cleaning, cooking. After school when my 6 year old daughter
was playing, she called out from the bathroom, 'Mommy, where's my
washcloth?'

I told her to get another one from the cupboard.

She replied, 'No, I need the one that was here by the sink, it had all my
glitter and sparkles saved inside it.'

Never going back to that doctor. Ever.

Good morning all...I started a post last night and lost it and was too tired to redo. Yesterday was the toughest yet. Food was fine! The head director and her husband blew in and took over the computer and to make a long story short killed the computer. Won't boot up. Nada. So I called DH and he drove 30 miles to bring my old one. So game of course got screwed up and had to stop it three times to make changes. Ended up going into the program and making deep fixes which I haven't had to do in 10 yrs. So surprised when I looked at the notes and found I had written in the correct order everything I needed....boy that came from beyond the back of this old brain. Got everything done and posted by 6pm.

The food went like wild fire. The ham and cheese of course, but they loved the roast beef/bleu cheese on potato hamburger rolls. When I pulled out the triffle at 3:00 They went bananas. In 10minutes it was gone. Bowl was almost licked clean. Great way for me to stay OP.

All in all the day was okay. I didn't loss my cool and say what I was thinking about the computer zlitch. The players enjoyed themselves and I only walked 3.5 miles. Still wondering what i did Monday. I even got my water drunk, but screwed up on food by not eating.

This is my day...ain't doing nuth'n for nobodys...veging out. Not even talking on the phone. gonna lurk around 3Chicks and crawl into my chair and read. ..d'ts it. Wanna bet it doesn't happen?

later...hugs, Karen3

I don't use Bisquick either. What I do is measure a scant 2/3 cup flour and rub in a couple tablespoons margarine or butter along with a teaspoon baking powder and a pinch of salt. That should do quite nicely. I haven't tried using whole wheat flour but I'd bet that'd work well, too.

I haven't noticed a film on my hands when cutting zucchini but I don't cut much up. Must take notice next time.

And I got quite a laugh out of that story you posted. Mom was watching me read and wanted to know what I was laughing about and then she got a good laugh when I told her the story.

I lost 1.5 pounds this morning when I weighed in but went to a potluck lunch today and ate way too much macaroni and cheese. I haven't gone over my calories but I feel too full. It's my weakness...sigh...I won't eat until tomorrow at breakfast now and I'll be full until I go to bed. It's that kind of full! This is a non-exercise day for me but maybe I'll be able to get in a little walk later on this evening. Should have stuck with the salad.

Karen3, have a nice uninteresting, non-stimulating, boring, inactive day all to your self. Everyone needs one of those days every now and then.
