Well here's a surprise

  • Alright so I figure I need to lose some weight for health reasons I suppose. I'm highly surprised that I'm past 50 because in my head I'm just barely out of my teens. I won't kid you that I like my snacks and they don't help because I work at a sedentary job and live a fairly sedentary life. But fat is fat and I'm finding it harder to stand up without pushing myself and I really don't want to let this get any further.

Today for the first time in probably over a year I weighed myself. I'd expected to be about 225lb and was amazed that I'm at 205lb. Somewhere along the line I seem to have lost 20lb without trying. That all cinnamon bun diet works! Just kidding of course. I thought it was funny that the other day I bought a skirt two sizes smaller than some of my other clothes but just figured it was more strange outsource sizing.

I guess I'm going to be complaining my way on down to 145lb but if my posts smell of cinnamon please turn away. It's medicinal.
  • That's a wonderful surprise to be 20lbs lighter! Yay! Keep up the hard work and you will see 145lb soon. Sweets are my weakness too...they are so tempting!
  • spinky Well, that's the kind of surprise we like! the other kind... not so much.

  • I tried the all chocolate diet, but didnt get the same good results you did! Must be that metabolism thing.....
  • The all ice cream diet doesn't work, either!
  • Hate to be a bit of a downer on this happy parade . . . but . . . if you really have no explanation for having lost weight recently, I have to suggest that you discuss things with your doctor. I lost about 20 to 30 unexpected pounds in 2004 just before discovering that my blood sugar was all out a kilter and I needed to start adding insuling to my other Diabetes meds (and the insulin helped me put it all back on in short order).

Not trying to scare you, but better to be safe than sorry later.
  • Jo, I'd like to say I worked hard but I hardly worked at all. Actually I haven't been dieting. That's what's so surprising.

Thanks for the suggestion, Meowee, but when my blood was checked I was in perfect working order. My doctor, a lovely man who is very slim, was convinced I had diabetes, heart, you name it because of my size. I only did the blood thing to humour him and told him that just because I was fat didn't mean I wasn't healthy. Actually many of the women on both sides of the family are medium to big and live to a healthy old age. The doctor was pretty surprised when I came back completely clear. Not to say I don't think that as I get older I probably would be better off at a lower weight just in case.

I haven't decided how I'm going to get the rest of the weight off but this site certainly has lots of information. No more browsing books in the grocery store for me.
  • I am very glad to hear that, Chickie . . .
  • Genetrics
Genetics can be a grand thing. My mom, who's pushing 80, has wonderful lab results. Dad's had heart problems and always had hi-col, hi-trig, high everything bad reguardless of medications.

    I'm hoping I got Mom's
  • Well congrats on the 20lbs gone, I want to know you secret LOL

Ya know my wine diet did not work either--go figure?

I too live a sedatary lifestyle but today I bought a used stepper that is going right in front of my TV so in the eve I can hop right on and take off...(in my dreams)
  • Genetically I take after Mum's side of the family. I still have smooth skin without wrinkles and it's pretty flexible. We don't noticeably age until in our late 70s. My Sister is like my Father's side of the family and although from a distance she looks very young up close she has lots of lines. I shouldn't feel good about this but I do.

Since I'm sitting at the desk I can't use a stepper. I was considering one of those pedal things but I'm considered eccentric enough at work. I'm sure the sight of me peddling away like mad with the contraption under my desk will ensure no one sits next to me.
  • You know I could almost do some things at work for exercise I wonder if I could get away with closing my office door at lunch and using an exercise DVD? Think they would notice? LOL
  • They might not notice you exercising but unless you have a shower in your office they might catch a wiff. However, if you did kick boxing for your exercise I'm sure all your co-workers would be very careful and very nice around you.
  • LOL don't think I could get my legs up high enough to do the kick boxing but it sure would be funny to try and watch. I did get out and take a long walk today it felt great I am going to try and keep that up best I can
