Jay - hang in there with the weight loss. You are probably still seeing some of the effects of the trip. That pesky scale will move again. I know it is hard - I have the same problem after a trip. Stay OP, and keep exercising. You are a wonderful role model for patience and tenacity and grace while dealing with a plateau!

Cat door - he will get the hang of it soon. I used treats to coax our cats through the first few times. It worked pretty well. Our door is huge - since we have a 75 lb golden mix. Thus, it takes some effort for the cats to open it. I love our door - it really is nice that the pets can go in and out as they wish while we are at work

Etta - I like to walk too! I try to walk to work whenever I can. It really helps keep me on track if I can get in a good walk each day! I look forward to more of your posts

Linda - glad the forecast is improving for you! It got quite hot today (nothing like what Jay gets, than heaven!) My walk home from work was slower than usual. I am waiting until after supper to get the weeding done.

Jay and CountingDown,

Thanks for welcoming me to this new thread.

I was a bit worried about broadcasting my intentions to work at losing weight at my age but this thread makes me feel at home.

Thanks again for the encouraging words.

Etta - I kept it quiet at work too. It was a double-edged sword though. On ONE hand - it was great that people weren't "keeping track" and I didn't have to worry about people noticing how fast or slow I was losing. On the other hand, it was kind of a downer when I lsot 40 lbs. and no one noticed. But, overall - I was glad that I didn't broadcast my efforts. It took some of the pressure off.

Finding 3FC and this forum has really, really helped me on this journey. The folk here are wonderful, and kind, and wise. I have learned so much about weight-loss, and maintenance - particularly as it applies to folk my age. It is harder this time - well - I mean slower, really. In some ways it is easier. My expectations have been more realistic. I don't have a sense of urgency about how long it takes meet my goal.

Keep posting and letting us know how you are doing, what plan you are using, and any questions you may have. The combined wisdom around here is astonishing

ETTA . . . so glad to have you joining us, and it sounds like you are on the right track.

Speaking of things that are right . . . looks like a good weather day for northern Nova Scotia -- warm and sunny, but much, much lower humidity.

Thanks for noticing!

For 3 straight days - it has been 130.6. It is taunting me, for sure.

I'm glad it is Friday - it seemed like a long work week. It is hot and humid - the rain is drying up as it crosses Lake Michigan, so the storms we were supposed to get aren't coming. I need to get out into the garden and get some weeding and watering done. It is looking pretty good right now, maybe I will take a couple pics and post them this weekend.

Enjoy your Saturday all! Maybe Spiny will pop in? I miss her!!!

You GO girl! GO!!!

Hey everybody, I've been stuck in the house almost all day, trying to finish up a manuscript on deadline. I did manage to get out to the gym, but not until 4:30. I just couldn't work anymore! My brain and eyes had turned off!

Well, I'm stuck again at my nemesis weight... It's been too long since vacation now, so I don't think that's it. I got down, then I bounced up. I'm sure glad that none of my family members are being held hostage unless I lose weight!

I miss Spiny, too! And what about BillBlueEyes, and hijude, and the others we haven't seen? Helllllloooooo out there!

Well, I hope they're having a good summer!

I've been lurking for months, but don't post regularly, so I kind of know you but you don't know me.

I just hit a milestone of 2 days <150. Haven't been that in decades (and for once, this is a group that understands that!). What motivates me is seeing retiredone and counting down. What losers!

The accountability thread has helped me too as I can post in seconds if I'm short on time.

JayEll: I had a two month plateau followed by a 8 pound spike after a spring break trip to London! It's taken me three months to recover!

Three years ago when DS went to college I gained 5 lbs. at spring break, 5 getting him ready that summer, and 5 while he/we stressed out over his first semester. I vowed not to repeat it this year as DD (and last child) leaves for college! So the first 5 are now gone and no increase has occurred this summer!

I'll keep reading even if I don't post all the time. You guys are great motivation. I give myself "permission" to "waste time" on the computer, but only AFTER I've done my exercise!

Hey get fit in ky!

Thanks for posting! Yeah... plateau can be awful... But what's a loser to do?

Had some work leftover to finish this morning--did the kitchen floor awhile ago--Now just king of wondering what to do next... It's day off from gym. Hmmm... makes me want to go anyway! But I don't think my knees would be happy with me.

Hope you're all doing good this weekend!

Sue Glad you decided to post - and thank you for your kind words!
Congrats on your loss You are doing GREAT! You are really close to your goal! The last 10 lbs. has gone very slowly for me, but - it has gone

Jay - wow - you are the picture of ambition! Does your gym have a variety of equipment? Maybe some stretching, or ball work, or something that doesn't put stress on your knees. I would hate to waste a good exercise craving (I don't get them very often )

Well - today is the "BIG" day. My weigh-in this afternoon was 130.0. I'm working on putting together my new avatar and goal pics. The latter is painful, and hard. FINDING pictures of me at my high weight was very difficult. I avoided the camera like the plague.

Hope you are all having a great Saturday. I'm off to finish my collage.

CountingDown, I was on here earlier and saw your regular avatar etc. I noticed you said you had .2 to go, and now you have done it. Huge congratulations to you! I know how you felt when no one noticed that you had lost forty pounds. No one has noticed that I lost 40 lbs, either.

JayEll, I am absolutely cracking up over the cat door. We put the same kind in our sliDING door. Turns out our sliding door is out of square somehow, so it's not perfect, but OK. We pretty much stood on our heads trying to teach one of the cats to use it. Then we figured out that she was using it, just never when we were around - she didn't want us to see her. She still does't like it a whole lot. Especially when the dog is lying across the opening. She tolerates the dog, but doesn't want to walk over her to get out.

My DH is in GA visiting his daughter. I am in charge of the cats, dogs, chickens and watering the yard. It has been really, really hot and smoky here. The neighbors are going away for a week and I will be in charge of their chickens, cats, dogs, and garden too. I hope all this farm work doesn't make my hands rough.

I am trying to learn how to use my MP3 player that I got so I could listen to electronic library books. I have also spent some time trying to program a remote control for the tv. I have no natural talent for this kind of thing and get really, really, frustrated.
