This is from our local Hy-Vee dietition, I asked her for the breakdown of % and grams. I asked her if she was familiar with Fitday and this was her email answer to my questions.
Quote:
I like fitday! I use it quite a bit actually.
Your percentages should be as follows:
< 30% of calories from fat
55-60% calories from carbohydrate (mainly from complex and whole grains)
15-20% calories from protein
Converts to:
33 grams fat (25%)
171 grams carb (57%)
54 grams protein (17%)
Your fiber is quite high and that is great! I can't get many to go that high - that is great. You must be eating lots of fruits and veggies. Water is important when your fiber intake is that high.

Good morning, everyone.
I'm home after five days in Tacoma. Went to see my grandson graduate - which he wasn't able to do - flunked one class that he wasn't able to make up. So, I had a nice mini-vacation with my older son and family. My grandsons are such good looking, tall young men and they treated me so well. The one who didn't graduate really didn't care - probably why he didn't. The younger one probably graduates in 2 years so I won't go back up for any period of time until then.
My daughter-in-law is a nurse midwife. I told her I am on low cal, but she seemed to have no concept of low cal - lots of carbs in every meal, so finally I gave up and ate whatever I was offered. So, I feel that if I haven't gained at least 5 lbs, it would be a miracle. I'm afraid to step on the scale right now. I am getting back in the groove so should start feeling better in a day or so.
Weather in Tacoma was absolutely wonderful while I was there, but now that I am home, the weather here is warm and getting warmer. I have to get my chores done before it gets too hot. The dog is still at the boarding place so I have to go get him in a couple hours. I missed him as my kids don't have any pets.
Today, I join my senior group for dinner at a nice place in Pasadena - Middle Eastern food. This group meets once a month and it is usually fun. Tomorrow, I go to Orange County to see my holistic doctor and have lunch with my younger son, and on Thursday, I pick up my girlfriend so we can drive to Stateline, NV for a day of playing slots - this is her birthday trip.
Sounds like lots went on while I was gone. My kids are proud of the fact that they never watch tv so I was isolated. I also didn't have much access to a computer. Next time, I plan to stay in a hotel as I don't like restrictions.
Have a lovely day.

Evening all...Just a quicky. Played bridge and won the Stac game for this club. It is a game where all the clubs in the unit play the same hands at the same time. The results are sent in and then everyone is scored against all the players. My partner and I came in first in our club and now have to wait and see if we got a state ranking. Came in 4th yesterday which won't be any good statewide......so am awaiting!
Bobbie...are you reading my mind? I have been on the South Beach Diet for 18 months and 2 months ago started cross checking diet against calories/fat/carb/protein intake using Fitday. It is a great way to twick my diet. Have been concerned because the more vegies I eat the higher my carb count has been going....and here you are with the answer. Guess I will study some more and increase carb count and decrease fat....protein was better than I thought...I strain to get 20% daily.....Thank you!
Welcome back Kathleen...bet your fuzz face missed you.
Off I go wandering in cyberspace looking for today's results...hugs Karen3

Really tired , so I need to hit the hay, but wanted to say "Hi"
Bobbi thank you for the e-mail you shared from your dietician, it was very helpful and congrats on being the fiber
Kathleen have a fun trip to the slots with your friend. It is hard when you are a house guest and you need to eat and the choices are not healthy. Sounds frustrating
Karen 3 congrats on your bridge standing, here's hoping you rank top in the state
Linda hang in . Your progress has been an inspiration to me. Thank you.
Hope that Wednesday is a beautiful day for all.
Tomorrow night I have my cancer support group, so I'll probably just log on the accountability forum. Thank you Lynn for that forum. It is a huge help to me. You are an

Hi there . . .
Boy is it every muggy and overcast today -- and I ache -- but things have been so changeable lately, who knows what the afternoon may bring.
A good rain would be very welcome since it appears there are still some little hot spots in the firea area -- and they found the ignition point. it appears to be a case of 'careless camper'. Will people never learn?
Spent 90 minutes in the waiting room for my 15 minute appointment with the gyn yesterday -- glad he didn't check my blood pressure. At least he changed the picture on the ceiling over the examining table since the last time I was there. Two of the cutest little chocolate lab puppies you'd ever want to see. And . . . his scale weighed me 1 pound lighter than my own. Always a pleasant and totally unexpected surprise.
This morning, the blip went in the downward direction again. Sometimes I know what causes the ups (too many carbs; too much sodium) other times . . . But, I'm so glad I decided to start recording every day and taking an average, because now the whole see-saw routine doesn't bother me nearly as much as it used to.
Have a great day, gang . . . see you later and may all your weight blips be downward . . .

Good Morning!
I just came back from letting our chickens out and didn't want to come in. What a beautiful day it is, I'm going to hang out two loads of laundry. Someone should bottle the smell of fresh air!
I had 4 hours of sleep Monday night, woke up at 2:30am and couldn't get back to sleep due to a nightmare. Tuesday I spent about 3 hours with MIL waiting for the doc (I hear ya Meowee), getting blood test, etc. So I went to bed last night at 8:30 and didn't get all my calories in, so any of you that belong to the "Accountability" thread, don't preach.
Karen3...I've been comparing my daily nutrition to your's just because we both eat about the same number of calories. So we must be kindred spirits!
Gotta go, lots to do and I don't like burning sunlight.

Good morning, everyone.
Another beautiful but hot day here. It's about 70 degrees now but supposed to get up into the high 80's, or low 90's in my area.
I went to dinner with our senior center group last night - we meet once a month. This time, we went to a Middle Eastern place - service was slow and there were too many carbs. I overate as I got too hungry. But it was fun. I wonder where they will plan to go next month. Hope I can get just a salad or I probably will not go.
Today, I go to my holistic doctor and then meet my son for lunch. I always enjoy sitting and talking to him when it is just the two of us. My DGD plays soccer this weekend so I will have to be in San Bernardino for her 8 a.m. game. It gets really hot there so I'm glad they will play an early game.
I was supposed to go to Stateline, NV with my friend tomorrow, but the woman who usually babysits her husband had other plans, so we are postponing it for a week. Her husband has Alzheimers and can't be left alone as he does stupid stuff like trying to cook a hot dog on a paper plate on the stove. Next week should be fine. I'll go whenever is best for her.
Finally got some groceries in the house so now I can get back OP and try to dump some of this new weight - I haven't weighed in as I am afraid of what I will see. But I can sure feel the extra weight. Hard to move around.
My pup is so glad I'm home. Lays at my feet and is my little shadow. He turns 9 months tomorrow. My groomer told me I was overfeeding him, so I am cutting back and don't keep the food out all day. But I do give him an extra cookie or so as he is so good lately.
Anyway, time to get ready to get out of here. Hope everyone has a nice, cool day.

Hello everyone. The weather man just reminded everyone that summer will be here in a day or so. The weather here has been so bad this past week we needed that reminder, ha, ha.
My DH sister and family (husband, grown children and grandchildren) will be visiting for two weeks starting this weekend. Fortunately, they aren't staying with us, although I wouldn't mind except we're still in a state of upheaval with the patio doors. We'll be having a big family potluck weekend after next where there should be 30-40 family members in attendance. That should be a bit of fun. DH and I will take turns attending as someone needs to be with mom. The hall that's rented is only a 5 minute walk from our house so it won't be too inconvenient for us to do that. There should be lots of food choices so I'm not too worried and if there isn't anything I want to eat, I'll go home with the excuse I have to watch mom.
Looks like the sun is trying to shine out there. Must do my exercises and try and get a little fresh air.

Hi All,
Teaching the online course - taking 2 online workshops - TV broke AGAIN (luckily I had service contract - they will replace my 4 yr-old set). Have a rash - maybe from shingles vaccine? Getting ready for trip to NY - next week - with my sister to do genealogical research.
Take care,
Lynn

Evening all...Just found the Stac scores and we came in 13th in the state. I'm tickled pink...The last game Friday is my day to direct. So that's the last Stac for until Dec for me. A pair from our Monday game came in 7th so they will be so excited when I see them Friday. Since we only play to accumulate points it never makes sense to nonplayers.....
We have had thunderstorms every day now and Dash comes for his dryer pad rub down with 1st clap. A friend says it doesn't work on her dog. Wonder if creme rinse would. It's the static electricity.....Hmmmmmmm Dash can smell like Aussie sun-touched shine.....yeah, like a Roo. blah!
Got the electric bill which included our friends plug in days. Wow did that thing suck up juice. Day and half about $40 worth. Well there's one more thing on my list. I did tell you that they had 2 Jack Russells and at one point they ran down the center of my pine dining room table. Must go back and print out my company expectation list and post by front door.
Isabella...that sounds like the perfect way to have company with an exit cause....
Kathleen....you have been back from DS and have been giving us excuses. No more lov...time to get serious and start watching your diet. We are watching you.
Linda...who did you pay to have the doc's scale be so kind. I have never had that happen. They are always showing heavier. That is a great moment ....double wow!
Bobbie...okay lov, now I will watch you in Acc't. Gotta work around and change my fat/carb/prot scale but won't change it on site until next month.
Gotta get things done so I can watch the wonderful young dancers. Take care of yourself, eat healthy and hugs, Karen3

Good morning all. What a night we had here. We all settled in nicely at a fairly decent hour, even DS got home before dawn and got to bed. Just after 2 am there was an ungodly roar that woke everyone up. I was almost paralyzed with fright but jumped up to see what it was as DH was telling me to turn the alarm clock off. Some alarm clock!! DH's air compressor that he uses with his air hammer went off as he forgot to unplug the thing after he used it yesterday when he finished putting the framing around the patio doors. That of course woke mom up who wanted to go to the bathroom. She couldn't get comfortable afterwards, although I fluffed her pillows and tucked her in and she was crying and moaning for almost half an hour which got DS out of bed to see if he could help. By this time DH was feeling sick with a sharp pain in his side and back. I rubbed his back and stomach until I finally fell asleep. But before I fell asleep I went into a fit of laughter at the thought of DH telling me to turn off the alarm clock. All this time my stomach was totally upset from the fright I had received when the compressor went off. Mom woke again at 4 and then at 6 to go to the bathroom. At the 6 o'clock bathroom break she cried for almost an hour which again woke DS who tried to get her settled. She finally cried herself back to sleep. DH went to work with pain (which he tells me is a bad gas attack), DS is gone back to sleep and here I am typing. Some nights are so peaceful and quiet and then you have nights like last night. We're going to be crooked and cranky today.
I have a new lentil recipe I'm going to try. I got it in the UK thread a few weeks ago and ran across it last night when I was doing a little closet/bedroom organizing. We'll have it for dinner (lunch) today. I should really have breakfast before I think of dinner!

You really did have a busy, busy night . . . hopefully the day will be calmer.
Looks like a busy one for me too . . . the Bengal twins have to go to the vet for their annual shots. Will probably take two of us an hour to get them caged up. Then they will screach and complain the whole time. When they get back home again, they will disappear from sight for at least two days and will take about 3 months before I can get near them again -- they are definitely not the most tractable cats I've ever shared house-room with and boy are they ever great grudge holders. No idea where they are right now -- haven't seen either one since I brought the cage in from the garage. After that, guess LouLou and I will do our normal Thursday afternoon shopping "thing" -- if we've got any energy left.
To top it off, it's cold and very overcast . . . difficult to believe it's only two days until Summer is officially here . . . I'm still waiting for Spring.
Hope everybody else has a good day . . .

Good morning, everyone.
The heat has arrived again - should be up near 100 today. All I can do is close up the house and stay near the air conditioner. Supposed to last through Sunday. Yuck.
Woke up feeling dizzy. I got up a couple times and had to hang on to the walls to keep from falling. I just made some coffee so hopefully, as soon as I am awake a little longer, this will pass. I wonder what brought this on. I always take a baby aspirin so I don't expect it to get worse.
Went to lunch with my son and DGS yesterday. So nice. I had a nice chicken salad and ice tea. We sat and talked for about two hours. Lots of good news for him. Looks like I might be able to buy my house next month. We'll see when the time comes.
I was supposed to take my friend to Stateline, NV yesterday, but she doesn't have a babysitter for her husband with Alzheimers so we had to postpone it a week. It should be a little cooler by then anyway.
Two firetrucks just pulled into my trailer park. Looks like one of the men who lives alone on the other side of the park is having some kind of health problem. Hope he is okay. He seems to be sitting on his stoop. He's a weird guy so we don't talk to him very much. He must be okay as one of the trucks is leaving, thank goodness. Three of the guys in the park are over there so I'll find out later what happened. I can't tell if the ambulance took him away. Now I hear a siren so they must have.
No plans for the day - just try to stay cool and watch the food. My pup sure feels good. He is nine months old today.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Hi all
Tried to catch up on reading posts but ended up just skimming a few.
Looks like I'm not the only one dealing with aging Mom/MIL issues. MIL is playing her broken foot for every shred of attention she can get - putting on the pitiful face and sending me or DH all over the house to fetch this or that for her. She can't seem to grasp the idea that she still needs to keep as mobile as possible - the foot is cracked so she does need to keep from putting all her weight on it but the doc told her it's not a fracture so she could use the walker to get to the bathroom or the kitchen and we've got a wheel chair for her so she can get all over the rest of the house or in the back yard if she wanted. She's fine with standing in the bathroom for half an hour putting on makeup and combing her hair, but she can't stand in the kitchen for 5 minutes to make her own sandwich . I did put my foot down and refused to give her a sponge bath - I understand that she doesn't want to stand in the shower or try to get in and out of the tub so I set her up with lots of towels, wash cloths and a chair by the sink in her bathroom but I still got the pout like I'm cruel and evil because I wouldn't actually wash her. Well, at least her mind is still sharp as a tack so we don't have to deal with anger and confusion.
And, I'm getting really frustrated with losing and gaining back the same 2 pounds. I've read enough posts that I thought I was mentally prepared for hitting plateaus but after cruising along with such steady losses I have to admit I'm really angry with the bloody scale for not moving anymore - or rather moving down one day but being right back up the next. Admittedly, I think I've slacked off on the water intake but still stayed dead on plan as far as the eating - not even slightly tempted by MILs ice cream and chips (she refuses to hear that she might not have to spend so much money on meds if she ate better food - she thinks eating one nectarine and putting non-fat milk on her Cheerios counteracts bad stuff). Sooo, I think I'm going to have to do a little tweaking to get myself back in the groove. Think I'll try cutting back on the dairy - I'd been gradually increasing the low fat cottage cheese and organic yogurt but I think I'll cut those back to a couple of sevings a week and add a calcium supplement instead and see if that helps.
Gosh, I meant to pop in and say hi and wish everybody a great and healthy day but it turned into something of a rant Thanks for letting me vent
