Morning Chickies
Hope that the heat wave lifts for you soon Lynn. Also I hope that the damage to your daughter's appliances may not be too costly to replace.
Isabella, I love Newfoundland and Twillingate is one of my favorite spots. I like it cool and got spoiled when we lived in PEI (Prince Edward Island ) back in the 80s. We have lots of Canadian friends too
Freda, thanks as aways for your near daily encouragement. It helps alot.
You are an
My check up today is with the thyroid oncologist. Fortunately in Nov '07 I elected for surgery to remove a thyroid nodule which could not be determined to be benign or cancerous. I decided that since it looked like a very small Adam's apple, it was coming out. Wait and see and more testing would not have worked for me.
The left half of my thyroid was removed and 10 days later it was confirmed that I had cancer....emphasis on HAD.... the surgery removed it all. Also the follicular carcenoma was only minimally invasive and did not get into my vascular system..... again more thank you prayers were said and continue to be.
In Feb '08 the right half of my thyroid was removed and was cancer free. Follicular thyroid cancer doesn't ususally travel from side to side, so this was expected but reassuring . Then in March '08 I had radiation isotope treatment and a body scan, which confirmed that the cancer had not traveled elsewhere.
My cancer experience has been so easy compared to so many others, so my heart is full of gratitude. I am extremely grateful to have been entrusted into the care of such a wonderful surgeon (she was fabulous) and onocologist. Today's appt . will be to discuss the ongoing follow up care.
Since I am on thyroid meds to make up for no natural thyroid left , I'm especialy happy that I can lose weight, if I try. I was afraid that my procrastination for self care re: weight loss, prior to the cancer , would have resulted in extreme difficulty trying to lose.
So I wish you all cool breezes and a wonderful day. Thank you for listening and I send you
Eileen

Evening all....Filled up my tank today. Will need to take a loan soon. The pump was in a glare and I thought oh good only took 6.? gallons. Yup for $30! Yikies
Did my regular Thurs errands and jumped in the pool. The sky was bright blue, no breeze and just plain hot. Then there was a clap of thunder so loud that I was out of the water in 1 nanosecond. Bet I could count that in my daily exercise....
Eileen...what a good outcome on your thyroid CA. I have a friend who was to be operated on for ovarian CA. She insisted if they were taking one to take both. Upshot of this story was the other one was the cancerous one. I've always said to listen to your own body. Wish I had listened years ago about stuffing my face.
Lynn....You be cool now? I hope!
Finally got caught up and feel rested. Took a nap this afternoon and Dash didn't wake me. Dash does not do oven well. I baked his chicken this morning and by the time the house smelled like chicken he was herding DH into the kitchen over and over. He got his dinner at 2pm. Guess that's howcome I got a nap. Yeah, our fuzzy face rules the house.
YoYo...MIL had what we called Reader Digest Disease of the month. They used to have "Joe's Body" stories. I'd buy the magazine just to stay ahead of her. Had to laugh when she got prostate problems.
Gonna run....hugs Karen3

Eileen, how fortunate you were to have caught the cancer so soon. Hope your check up is a good one.
Last night I had an interesting incident happen. I was up really late with my son and his girlfriend watching a couple of movies and taking mom to the bathroom every hour. By the time I settled down in bed it was 4 am and I had just put my head on the pillow when the phone rang. It was my neighbor across the street. She's elderly and phones me quite often, sometimes several times a day even though her daughter just lives up the street. She was very disoriented and not making much sense. She wanted me to come over so I asked her if she was sick or had fallen but she hadn't. Then she wanted me to phone another neighbor so I agreed and told her hang up and I phoned her daughter.
What I gathered from her daughter later on today is that she may have messed up on her meds. She is also in the very early stages of some kind of dementia. Her daughter spend the rest of the night with her and they had quite a row with Mrs. C yelling and screaming at her daughter until she finally settled down. Is this what old age comes down to?
Needless to say, I slept in this morning and missed breakfast. Anyway, the day turned out better than the night. DH has the patio doors installed and has to remove the window on the adjacent wall. He's quite handy when he starts. He started replacing all the windows in the house last summer and now we have all new windows in the house as of today. Now to get a deck build on. That's a long step down to the ground.

Hello Everyone,
Began teaching my course. AC is fixed. Keeping calories in control - NOT losing - frustrated.
Tomorrow is my Little Sister's Quinceanera - went to pick up tablecloths - they ordered napkins instead of tablecloths - they say they can get them by this afternoon.
Take care,
Lynn

Good Morning Girls!
It's finally sunny today in Southern Minnesota, we've had so many tornados, high winds, rain & flooding. We were 1 month behind in planting our large vegetable garden, DH just finishes putting the zucchini in last week. One good thing about all the rain, it makes pulling weeds in my flower gardens easy. I'm on my way out to weed our shade garden now. I just wanted to say a couple of things, Meowee, what a great start you had on the "Accountability" thread. (2 lbs. down in 9 days, WOW)
Isabella, my MIL was diagnosed with Dementia last summer and it progressively gets worse. 75% of the time she's living in the present world. ( She lives in an assistent living apartment.) She must have had another T.I.A. because the nurse called DH and said they caught her packing up everything 3 times, she said she was moving to our house.
DH and I would move out before that happens, DH puts on a good front when around her but has never liked her. MIL and I mix like oil and water! Unfortunately DH is an only child so we're running into town often. Two days ago we were there and she said she'd just gotten back from Chicago. She claims she went on an over night trip and we couldn't convince her otherwise. Yesterday I dropped off all her summer clothes that we stored for her over the winter. For the 4th time she had all the cupboards boxed up, all pictures taken off the shelves and boxed up. She said her friend was coming to pick her up and take her to her home. We told her this was her home, the house she lived in was auctioned off. She was shocked and wanted to know why she wasn't informed about it. She was there at the auction but doesn't remember. Then she told us she went to the gambling casino last night with that same friend that was going to pick her up. That friend has been dead for many years! I asked the nurse if we should correct her or go along with it. She said neither, just change the subject. It's so frustrating, any of you have problems with demenia in your family and how would you all deal with it?
I'm burning sunlight, gotta go pull more weeds.

Good Morning . . .
Sunny, cool, very windy -- but not bad for Friday the 13th, all things considered. Nothing big in my plans for the day anyway.
Thanks for the nice "atta-girl" Bobbi, but this morning both the weight and the blood sugar took an upward 'blip'. C'est la vie -- especially for me. Not too worried about either. You will hopefully retain your 3 pounds in the first 7 days, Chickie, and definitely add (subtract?) some more too.
BTW, I understand where you are coming from about your MIL's dementia, Bobbi and you, too about your neighbour, Isabella. Went through that with my Mother for awhile. It's not a fun time for anyone. Best bet is just to agree with them and then continue doing what you have to do anyway. BTW, just a little something to think about . . . turned out my Mother was a lot better after she moved to a new nursing home. Seems that the original one was over-managing her asthma with too much oxygen and that was causing a kind of though-process intoxication.
Sounds like your day is shaping up to be a bit of a stressful one, Lynn. Sure hope things get better.
Glad to see you baaaaack, CountryGurl . . .
Well, better get myself moving and shaking . . . hope everybody has a great day . . . see you all later . . .

Hi Bobbi,
Toward the end of his life, my DH often said weird things. One time, in the hospital he asked me where this ship was going. I wasn't sure if he was being delusional or metaphorical. Turned out he was delusional. When I told him we weren't on a cruise, he was in the hospital, he got mad at me.
His cousin told him he could be mad if he wanted, but he still wasn't on any @#$%^ cruise!

evenin all...Another afternoon of booming thunder storms and much needed rain. Again the worse was below us and we got a gentle rain instead of belly washers.
Bobbi...we have all had family members who get confused or delusional. My grandmother was a pip. As she fell farther and farther into senility she became younger and the old guy she was living with became that dirty old man Charlie and she was waiting for her tall handsome husband Charles to come home and save her. My dear PopPop was never tall and they had been married over 50 yrs. Our myna bird become Athur Godfrey who we had captured and caged. She was happy and we stayed confused.
Lynn...Did you get the table clothes? Wish her a sweet 16 from all of us!
Am totally turned around and somehow today feels like Monday. Guess having company in the middle of the week did me in. Tomorrow am going curl up and read until my eyes fall out. Leave my hearing aides out and have a me day......
Take care of yourself, eat healthy and hugs, Karen3

Hello everyone. I've been busy all day doing little odd jobs here and there around the house. I also washed and set mom's hair which is a workout in patience and physical endurance. She loved it though and is quite pleased with her hairdo. That's mainly why I didn't get in any exercise today. I was beat by the time the last curler was in.
My neighbor, Mrs. C. phoned me twice today. Once she was furious over the way her daughter was treating her and figured she and her husband were plotting to take her house from her. The second time she was docile and almost happy that her daughter was making arrangements to place her in a seniors home where she would be safe and taken care of. I just agree with her either way. She seems to have gone down hill over the past few months. I'm glad mom is lucid most of the time. She gets really contrary with me at times but that's usually because she's unhappy about not being able to walk and get around and she'd rather be at home with my sister who cannot take care of her because she works.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

A quick note to Lynn, sorry! I didn't know you lost your DH, he couldn't have been very old.

My MIL is very happy too, she loved to travel, went on many trips all over the country and to Europe. She is remembering happy times in her life and believes she is still traveling. You're right about granny being happy and you stay confused!
I have a question about the correct amount of grams/% of Fat, Carbs, Protein and Fiber in our diets. Where can I find that information?

You might take a look in General Diet Plans . . . but, I really don't think there is any one set of numbers -- sort of depends on the plan you are following.

Hi Everyone,
Yes, Bobbi, my Donald died 2 years ago - June 29th. I'm actually starting to think I'll get through this. However, although I have happiness in my day-to-day life, I no longer have the passion/joy.
Yesterday was a HORRIBLE eating day - basically, I ate whatever I wanted (almost 1600 calories!). I was just so frustrated at that scale, I decided "What the H--L!"
Today, I want to get back on track. However, tonight is my Little Sister's quinceanera. Hopefully, there will be some salad & diet soda.
Take care,
Lynn

Hi . . .
Darn old Scale- went the wrong way again this morning. Calories where okay yesterday, but the carbs were too high and that probably added more water instead of getting rid of some from the day before.
Our weather has definitely changed again -- still cool (15C/59F), but today it is raining -- but the wind is calmer, at least.
Have a good Saturday, gang . . .
