Default "GOLDEN GIRLS" - May 2008

Well . . . Good Morning . . .

Looks like it's that time again . . . a whole new start for a whole new month.

We are about Fitness and Quality of Life after 50...
We are about Fun and Friendship after 50...
We are the Golden Girls...

There is Value in us
There is Power in us
There is Wisdom in us
And Laughter....
We are a rainbow of unique wonders,
There is love in us.
(poem by Dorothy Holmes)

Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark?

Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!

Hope May 2008 is a great month for all of us.

Any of those cute little May Flowers that show up today had best be carrying umbrellas.

Anyway, Good Morning . . .

Today, I have a million (well at least 5) places to go and things to do out there in the so-called 'real-world', so guess I'd better get moving around 3FC so I can get out and about; but, first -- another is needed.

See you later, gang . . .

Morning all..busy May Day for me.

My husband's aunt and uncle are coming to pick up my MIL to go visit with them on the coast for a few days this evening after they go to jazz fest. So I need to rush home, throw together some dinner and get the house in order before they get here. Think I'm going to do a chicken salad with grapes, toasted almonds and celery using a rotisserie chicken. Gawd, but I love "them chickens".

Hope everyone has a great May Day!!!

Good morning.
I have finally finished digging the pond and we even got the water fountain working. Next step, some more water plants that racoons do not like.
I feel so much better with my morning coffee and the munchies are GONE.
That is the best part of low carb for me because it means I am no longer burdened with the call of food all the time.
Sounds like everyone else is busy at work this first of May.
Have a great day.

Good Morning, Another cold day here, but at least the sun is shining. Nothing much going on, think I'll visit Trader Joe's and see what's new. I love that store.

Betsy, Welcome. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Karen, those husband just keep surprising us, don't they? Maybe that's why we've kept them around so long. I'm not at the 50 mark yet, just 44 for me.

Cat, They make it much easier for us now don't they, with the roasted chickens and all the convient, actually pretty good, prepaired food you can buy and just add your own touches too.

TZ, You have been busy! And with all that digging and planting you've sure gotten your exercise in. Sounds like the diet you chose is working really well for you.

Gayle, Hi. Yes, I love those days when I don't work! We had our computer classes already. Looks like everything is going "paperless" or so they say. since they said that i've gotten even more paper work.

Everyone have a good day. Freda

Linda, thanks for starting the new thread!

Default I Did It!!!!

This morning, I got on the scale and I am below the dreaded 300 mark First time in many moons. I thought I was 311 when I started low carb about a month and a half ago, but I went into my FitDay site, and it showed I was actually at 314. So instead of a 12 lb loss this month, I actually dropped about 15 lbs since I started. Forgive me for getting so excited, but you have no idea how hard I have worked with WW and Atkins to hit this mark, and it never happened. But with SB, here we go. And even though I am 71 years young with thyroid and pre-diabetes problems!! This goal was a real biggie for me, in case you didn't notice!!! Anyway, time to start on the next goal, whatever thate will be.

I told myself that when I got under 300 lbs., I would start exercising, so I will have to set my treadmill back down and hop on for a few minutes. Darn, I like being lazy. I know I'll feel better as I don't have much energy, and I have cruises coming up in a few months and I would like to be able to walk a little distance. Couldn't do it on my cruise in February.

Today, I go to sing with my little group. I missed all of last week's rehearsals due to the cold I got, but it is better and we perform next week, so I need to get myself there and prepare.

I do love those prepared rotisserie chickens. Between them and hard boiled eggs, I always have something in the refrigerator in case hunger strikes too soon. I have to go get another one today - used up my last one yesterday.

The weather was really cool yesterday, but is supposed to warm up a bit today, and start getting really warm for the next week - not as hot as last weekend, but not in the 60's like yesterday, darn it.

I hope everyone has a lovely day. Talk to you guys later. Go SB!!!

Default May Day!

I love a new month! May is always a fun one: beautiful weather and school is nearly out for 10 weeks!

Kathleen, congrats on your tremendous weight loss this month....may you never see 300 on a scale again!

I, too, love those rotisserie chickens. They smell so yummy when you walk in the door of the grocery store. The Costco near me has them and they are lots bigger than those at the grocery store and they are the same price. Such a deal!

My daughter came over yesterday with my 8 month old grandson so that I could teach her to make baby food....there goes my walk! It was light enough after dinner for my husband and I to take a 30 minute bike ride. It was wonderful!

Have a great day, everyone!

Betsy

Cat, thanks for the info on the new SB book. Looks like if I had found my old edition it wouldn't have been up-to-date. I found a lot of info on the web so I was able to print out the basics until I get the book. Your success at losing weight made me decide I needed to get on a plan that would work better for me. So far I am hanging in there but am getting tired of eggs.

Great job Kathleen!! Those are great results.

I guess I will have to check out Trader Joe's. They are always packed with people on weekends around here. Now that I'm not working full time, I can run over and check them out during the week. Groceries have really gotten expensive. Seems like even the things that shouldn't be affected by shortages or trucking costs have doubled or tripled. It will be nice when the "farmers markets" open again.

Thanks, everyone, for all your encouragement. It means a lot coming from my "buds".

Went to my singing rehearsal - they cut me down to one solo as they have several other people who are doing solos. I really don't mind as my voice still isn't 100% yet. But it was fun and we are making progress.

The next town over has a farmer's market on Thursday afternoons. It is just a couple blocks from the senior center, but I have never gone - until today. It isn't big but the produce looks so fresh and nice. I got a big artichoke, 3 boxes of strawberries and some hummus - ran about $15. Not cheap but good. I have to start making it a habit to go every week. It isn't very big - about 2 dozen stalls, but what is there really looks nice. And the stuff is left to ripen before it is picked. I had six strawberries for my afternoon snack and the rest goes in the freezer. I'll have the artichoke tonight with mayo, and my chicken. And the hummus is for a snack occasionally. I ran out of money or I would have picked up some wonderful looking asparagus. Yum.

Thanks again.

Evening y'all...Sometimes I forget how far South we are! Read on other sites how chilly it's been. We're starting early summer. Not bragging because come August and Sept you'll have to put up with me whining about the heat/humidity!

When DS was a teen and a bottomless pit, I would take one hugh steak cut into 3rd's for his dinner. He then had 1st,2nd and 3rd's.....satisfied him. So tonight cooked a small steak for us2 and cut into 4 pieces...would you believe have big piece left. We both ate enough.....hmmmmmm Not sure if I fooled me or it is part of the tv show. Will it try again.

Linda...thank you for starting our new month.

Freda...Cold! Why are the snowbirds leaving here for there?..brrrr

Kathleen...........For going below that *#+* nasty number!Take care of yourself, eat healthy and hugs, Karen3

Hi to all, I love May in Michigan. All the new spring floweres coming up and the flowering trees. It's such an exciting change from our dull time after the snow leaves and everything looks dead.

Congratulation Kathleen-your loss sure encourages me.

Have a great day everyone. Lori

It's still raining . . . wish it would stop . . . . . . Oh well, after my busy day out and about yesterday, I've got lots to do around the house today so hopefully I'll be staying dry.

Hope the rest of you have great days on the go . . . see you later . . .
