Good Morning, gang . . .

hijude 03-13-2008 03:00 PM

Back today. Down 2 lbs this week. Heading in the right direction!!!

maryea 03-13-2008 03:17 PM

I've been a little unsure of whether I am "active" enough to join this group. So just kick me out if I'm not. I sit on my butt at this computer far too often and I have the housework thing pretty well down (my house is just comfortably clean to me..I"m not a perfetionist that way), so I don't have a lot of work to do, but I'm also not sitting in a rocking chair waiting for death either. :D I enjoy life and keep busy doing things I enjoy.

As far as exercise is concerned when at home I go to the gym 5x week and participate in stretch classes (30-40 min) and cardio circuit class (40 min). One of the stretch classes and the cardio are senior classes. I workout pretty aggressively for a senior class but doubt I could keep up with a regular class. I tried doing it on my own with weight machines but I get bored with that easily.

Currently we are on the road and we walk 5-6 days a week for 30-40 min at a brisk pace.

So if this is "active" enough, I'll post now and then. If not just let me know and I promise not to be upset. :D

edited to say:
Just saw the question about the music. I'm funny about music....I absoutely LOVE music and love to sing (around the house, in the car, even walking in a mall (quietly)) but I don't often listen to music. I don't like listening to a radio in general, have an ipod (won 2 of them) that I never use...don't know why. But I do love almost anyknd of music..from the past or curent. ...exception is the really hard rock/Heavy Metal stuff .but I do like some rap which seems to be unusual for my age My son used to be a rapper and kinda taught me to like some of it. My favorite music though is Christian...both old gospel and contemporary....and country. I like to listen to music when I don't have to stick something in my ears and it's stictly music (no talking) and I can sing along with it mostly. I love my church because we have wonderful worship services with lots of music and singing.

meowee 03-13-2008 03:32 PM

I'd say you definitely meet the "active" requirements MARY.

JayEll 03-13-2008 03:49 PM

I'd say your more active than some of us here, Mary! "Active" is more a state of mind anyway... :D

I just found out today what this one song is that I've been hearing for years. The radio never identified it when it played, I guess 'cause everyone knows it. It's "Kiss From A Rose" by Seal. Really interesting song! And I'm glad to finally know.

Went to St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Art today--hadn't been there before. It's a good museum--has some impressionists including a few Monets  and a number of works from other periods. Also a great modern art room. We went specifically to see some Indian and Buddhist sacred art; a small exhibit, but had some nice things--statues, small thanka paintings.

After that we took a long walk down St. Petersburg Pier. We'll have to go again--we would have liked to stay longer, but I hadn't thought to wear any sunscreen and it was going to be too much to stay out.

And, we had hot dogs!

Jay

Spinymouse 03-13-2008 04:55 PM

Welcome, Mary - Gosh, you are WAY active!

hijude 03-13-2008 06:29 PM

I argee Mary. I am not keeping up to you! By the way what are SAS shoes??
I am Canadian eh?

JayEll 03-13-2008 07:16 PM

San Antonio Shoes. :)

Jay

maryea 03-13-2008 07:33 PM

Well, thanks for accepting me. :)

hijude, I didn't know what SAS shoes were either! And I don't think I have ever heard that song JayEll. I will check it out.

My dh and I love to travel and I like to go to musums. My dh goes with me but is a bit reluctant at times. But he's a good sport. ;)

I forgot to mention another thing I do...kind of a hobby I guess...I like to enter sweepstakes and I have won some nice things. Any other sweepers here?

I've been hungry this afternoon but have managed to stick it out on one snack. Tonight we are going to the street fair in Palm Springs. We always go there when we are in the area. I'm taking a list and if the prices are good will buy some produce there. We are eating at a Chinese Restaurant that we like...we tried it in Jan when we were here and have wanted to go back since then. My plan is to right away ask for a box for at last 1/2 my meal to keep from overeating. I will allow myself to buy one snack from one of the stands though. So my calories may be up some but hopefully not too badly.

meowee 03-13-2008 08:21 PM

Sounds like a good plan MARY . . . but if you are like most of us, don't be surprised if the sodium in the chinese food makes you retain some water for a day or two; it will only be a temporary thing.

gailr42 03-13-2008 09:16 PM

The cultural event for me and DH today was a trip to Wal-mart, Home Depot and the DMV. I got a couple of kinda cute dresses at Wal-Mart. Actually this is a huge event in my life. I hardly ever find any thing that fits me, and these actually look ok.

DH likes those ready-done pots of various flowers that they sell in the nursery department at HD, but this time we bought the plants and came home and made a couple of arrangements ourselves. Look pretty darned good, if I do say so myself.

meowee 03-14-2008 08:02 AM

Hi there . . .

:sunny: and :brr: today and I'm going to get myself moving and shaking out there really soon. The long-term forecast tells us this is just a lull between storms and things are going to be pretty awful all through the weekend, so I want to get as much stuff done today as I can.

Congrats on those clothing finds, Gail . . .

Anyway, hope everybody has a wonderful day and I'll see you later . . . :carrot:

maryea 03-14-2008 04:16 PM

Well, I didn't do it perfectly as planned...I did with my dish but ate a little of my dh's and a little more rice plus I had a glass of plum wine. Also got sme cinnamon nuts before leaving. So with all that plus the sodium, my weight was back up 2.5 lbs! But tody I'm doing well so hopefully it will come down petty fast again. We ejoyed the meal and had a nice time at the street fair.

It is VERY windy here in Desert Hot Springs today! We ate a lot of sand while walking this am, but we got in our 30 min. The door is open for the cool air but it is blowing in a lot of dust. My dh is trying to get the sat back up so he can watch his TV shows.

Hope you are all having a good day..

Mary

JayEll 03-15-2008 07:13 AM

Hi! Y'all having a good weekend? Anything different planned? I'm mostly having to work this weekend. :stress: But I did get that "day off" during the week.

Jay

meowee 03-15-2008 09:19 AM

Good Morning . . .

Afraid there's nothing exciting on the agenda for me today -- just going to sit around and watch for the lastest snow storm -- probably do a little Gazelling and maybe a little light weight work to while away the time -- can you stand the excitement.

Sorry you will be working, Jay. Tax season will soon be over.

Hey . . . hope everybody else has good weather and a great moving and shaking day . . . :carrot:

Dinahgirl 03-15-2008 09:23 AM

Good morning everyone. I was a member a couple of years ago and then got lost. LOL Now I'm back and hoping to be more committed. I know that's what is necessary for me to get this 3-year-old quit smoking weight off.

A little about me...I'm 58, work full time and go to school part time getting my Master's in teaching English to speakers of other languages. I have two grown sons, one in Mexico and one in New York. I live in Florida. Three years ago I quit smoking and put on about 15 pounds (I'm just under 5' and weigh nearly 130). I started walking a lot and watching what I ate but I've not been able to maintain that. My dietitian friend has told me that I have to become compulsive, but my problem is that, now that I've started school, I don't seem to be able to find the room in my life to also be compulsive about diet and exercise.

So I guess I'm taking step 1 here...admitting that I need help. Thank you all for being here!

Dinahgirl

meowee 03-15-2008 09:28 AM

Hi there DINAHGIRL . . . :welcome: . . . You've definitely taken a really important first step to getting that weight knocked off again by coming back to our little cyber-world. We are soooooo ;"all in this together".

gailr42 03-15-2008 07:54 PM

Yep, it's a windy day in the Southern California desert. The dogs just walked in from their evening walk with a bit of hail on their backs.

I forgot to mention that we got up on the roof today with a bucket of tar and a brush to work on the leaky areas. One place is underneath the cooler. It is very hard to reach in there, so squirming around on my back with a brush full of tar was my exercise for today.

meowee 03-15-2008 08:09 PM

I can definitely imagine things that would be more fun . . .

get fit in ky 03-15-2008 08:22 PM

Sometimes getting house chores done can be a great exercise with the distraction of it not "seeming" like exercise. Plus you feel twice as good to have gotten something done as well as exercise.

Now, I hope you aren't too stiff in the morning!

Sue

gailr42 03-15-2008 11:31 PM

Putting down peel and stick flooring is what has made me the sorest, so far. Something about getting up and down off the floor to cut the stuff and squirming around the toilet to lay it.

meowee 03-16-2008 07:52 AM

Good Morning . . .

Well, we are having another "lull between" day of lovely, lovely sunshine . . . a good day to go out to play before storm number 3 comes along tomorrow. Actually, we only got about another inch of snow (if that). We have been lucky with the past few storms and I sincerely hope that holds true for tomorrow as well. :crossed:

Hope everybody else has a great moving and shaking kind of day . . . :carrot:

A quick flyby to let you know that we made it home safe and sound. It was a WONDERFUL trip to Chicago, and yes - DH did go with me. St. Patrick's Day weekend was an interesting time go go. While we enjoyed frequenting the local microbreweries (DH has been a home brewmaster for over 25 years & he likes to sample other's wares for ideas), I felt sooooo old. The crowd last night in every establishment was 20 something. I don't think there was anyone else that was within 20 years of our age. We got carded - lol - he said he was under orders to check EVERYONE. I don't think they expected folk our age to wander in. Every place we saw had a line of young adults waiting to get in - and standing room only inside. It was a great opportunity to people watch :)
I've attached links to a couple river pictures. It was quite fun to go watch them dye the river "green". It is kinda weird that they use orange dye to do it though!

Welcome Back, Chickie . . . glad you had a good and very GREEN time in the windy city . . . orange . . . hmm. must be something to do with combining with the natural things in water that makes it look sort of blue? Glad you were able to show proof of majority at the bar; you sweet young thing, you. :high:

Anyway . . . Happy St. Patty's to everybody. Hope you all have great days on the go. . . :grouphug:

gailr42 03-17-2008 05:27 PM

 Makes all that dieting worth while, doesn't it. Ah, so young, so thin.....

CountingDown 03-17-2008 09:02 PM

LOL - it IS good to be back. I missed all of you! But at $13 a day for Internet access - I'm way to "thrifty" to pay those prices. I swear - the higher end the hotel - the more you have to pay for. $10 for a bottle of water in the room - and room temperature besides. $35 per day to park your car - I'm so glad we took the train. It was only $68 for both of us. That is less than 2 night's parking.
OK, rant over ;)

I didn't gain, but I didn't lose anything either - so I'm back on track this week. I only have 2 weeks until spring break and the TN trip, so I need to get crackin'.

Hope you all had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day!

meowee 03-18-2008 08:10 AM

Such a wonderful word -- SPRING -- and I know it will eventually get here -- but right now, it seems very non-Spring-like around here.

Anyway -- Good Morning . . .

KCbytheC 03-18-2008 06:13 PM

Spring

Boy it must be windy everywhere today......ehhh meowe...at least it was here on the south shore. But it was sunny and in the afternoon quite quite pleasant.

I wasn't around yesterday but missed seeing what was going on. Let's just say it wasn't a stellar day. But tonight DH is downstairs making roast with onions, baked aspargus and smashed potatoes.

Another good nights rest and another good workout last night and today. Got to the gym at noon and ran into some nice folks all the way around, did 75 minutes of cardio on various machines.

Tommorrow I'll get back to doing some weights again, I haven't since Saturday. Just feeling so much better today.:carrot:

meowee 03-18-2008 06:38 PM

Sure was KC . . . from the weather news tonight I think it got windier the closer you got to Cape Breton -- but nothing as awful as what Newfoundland got. :yikes: Good to hear that you are feeling better.

CountingDown 03-18-2008 07:44 PM

Hi all, quick flyby again today. I will get caught up sooner or later.

I'm back on track - particularly with exercise. Which makes me smile. Yoga at 6 a.m. and aerobic dance after work.

More cold weather here - yuck. I'm wishing for tulips and daffodils! I'm glad spring break is just around the corner :)

JayEll 03-19-2008 07:10 AM

C'mon over to the new thread! :cheer2:
