Hi Freda,
Yes - I do weight machines 2-3 times/week + Eliptical 2-3 times/week.
Someone on my Diet Power site recommended a website to find the calories/day I need to burn fat (not muscle). http://www.freedieting.com/tools/cal...alculator.htm#
It's a GREAT site - you put in your height/weight/age/exercise & it gives you the appropriate daily calories. Mine came out to be -
Fat Loss
Monday 1401
Tuesday 1232
Wednesday 1682
Thursday 1401
Friday 1261
Saturday 1542
Sunday 1401
This site also recommended an e-book - Fit Over 40. It gives the cardio and nutrition regimes of over 50 different people who have achieved amazing fat loss and muscle tone. I'm going to check into that.
What part of your body is affected? My hip surgery was the BEST thing I ever did for my health. Relatively easy surgery & VERY quick recovery.
Take care,
Lynn

Hi GG's:
I went to urgent care on Sunday and was given an antibiotic and a decongestant to take for 5 days. The doctor said if I didn't see a difference when I finished the prescription then he wants to see me again. He will give me steroids to take and see if that helps. I haven't been able to hear out of both ears for 3 weeks now and I have an infection in my larynx and the tubes of my ears.
I had volunteered to decorate my church for Christmas this afternoon and help with the food for the Christmas play later on in the week so I hope I begin feeling better soon. It doesn't help with the weather being rainy and cold over the weekend and in the 80's yesterday and today.
I haven't been exercising this week and when I don't exercise, I don't lose weight. So, my weight has remained the same. I'm planning to get back in the groove as soon as I'm well and continue taking the weight off.
Below is a Christmas video that is quite touching. Please remember our service men and women fighting for our freedom and those who won't be home for Christmas.

Zoe: I'm terribly sorry to hear that your husband lost his job. You know I hear more and more people getting fired just before reaching retirement age. I think there should be a law that prevents companies from doing this. 61 year old is not old. People are having to, or wanting to, work into their 70's or older these days. I'm planning on working at something the rest of my life. I think I'd sue them no matter how long it takes. I know you must be stressed. Losing an income is a tragic thing and it must leave your husband feeling very bad too. I hope everything works out for you both. I'm glad you have your daughter to rely on for housing. My prayers are with you.
Cat: Wow, that's quite an accomplishment!!! I'm so proud of you.
Lynn: I bookmarked the website and will take a look at it. Thanks.
I've got to get back to work. Hello to all the Golden Girls I didn't address. I hope your day is a good one.

Hello, hello, hello....Omigosh, Karen, I checked out the short chicks! I can hardly believe all the instances of people losing jobs once they hit a certain age! What the heck!!??!! Well, I've got to say that I didn't expect anything like this, but now we'll deal with it - and hopefully with as much grace and good humor as all of you have. (Oh...and thanks for the exercise regimen; it worked perfectly! )
My DH had a GREAT conversation with MaryLynn's DH on the phone last night, and has spent this entire morning self-teaching something he downloaded (at MaryLynn's DH's advice) that should position him to get some contract consulting work. Thank you SO much, MaryLynn! (And thanks to your DH, of course!) I never realized, when I found 3FC that it would become so much more than just a weight-loss support group! When it comes right down to it, we've created our own networking arena right here...so many of us "of a certain age" (and older) are dealing with so many similar issues, and can understand each other so well! Children, husbands, jobs, and just what we are wanting out of life (including good health and fitness) are all, bottom line, something we've had experience with, and can empathize over pretty easily. I feel so lucky!
Oh, Freda, I sure hope there's something that can be done to improve that limp! I certainly agree that "learning to live with it" isn't the optimum solution!
Lynn, you are a strong woman, and that's all there is to it! You've been through so many crises, and yet you maintain such an optimistic, "can do" attitude! You definitely set us ALL an example worth following! I'm only familiar with the details of the Wendie plan - zig-zagging points, rather than calories, but I'm pretty sure I saw the calorie-counting one when I was Googling "Wendie". You can probably find it with a Google search.
Jo-annie, I'm just so happy that you are where you are now, as far as work is concerned - and that you're busy planning a wedding! Sounds like you're right back on track with the diet & exercise, too. Maybe you shouldn't jump too quickly at ordering your dress. After all, it could end up being way too large if you keep on the way you've been! (Congrats on the good work, incidentally.)
Thanks, too, for your kind words, Rosey. You have no idea how much all of your responses have helped!
And Cat, I really must tell you that I am becoming MUCH more daring when it comes to trying new recipes. You have really enticed me with some that you've posted. At any rate, I found a Vegan recipe for stuffed acorn squash (stuffed with a mixture of brown rice, faux (soy-based) sausage crumbles, apple chunks, raisins and onions with some interesting seasonings) and made it last night and it was amazing! DH and I loved it! I really need to venture out a bit from my normal cooking styles (plain) and with your prompting (by showing us what CAN be done) I think I'm going to do just that. I also made a nice version of chicken Cordon Bleu with spinach, cheese and ham a week or so ago (even pounded the breasts, which is something I never attempted before!) and that came out great!
Gayle, I hope all is well - these danged job issues are a pain in the rear end, aren't they? I DO think that we're going to go ahead and try filing an age-discrimination complaint. May go nowhere, but I think we need the satisfaction of trying, at least. The whole thing is so unfair, and they picked such a lousy time to do it. Maybe if they'd waited until AFTER the holidays, I wouldn't be so incensed, but this was just so inconsiderate.
Well, I guess that's all for now. Have a great day, all you Golden chicks, wherever you may be!
TTFN,
Z

Hi GOLDEN GIRLS. I promised myself to get here each day -- its all part of my success and seeing other people's successes and helping support other people is a great way to go through this lifestyle. I stumbled a tiny bit yesterday but was able to recover with a secret stash of sweet and salty nut bars. I hadn't eaten enough calories and it resulted in a huge horrible headache. As soon as I was able to eat the bar it took about 10 minutes to feel much much better. I hate when my body turns on my like that. I would never be able to do a low low calorie (nor would I want to) diet it would just be a miserable time for me and everyone around me LOL.
Lynn -- that is exactly how I feel on looking back at the "worst thing that could happen". Little did I know a few years later I would be living through something that made that period of time like a picnic in the park. I have resolved to feel that way about most material things (jobs included), they can be replaced its our loved ones that are precious.
Karen -- phew that wore me out I could have used that workout yesterday when I was unable to get to the gym LOL.
Freda -- there has to be other options. Not sure what is wrong but there are alternative solutions for just about anything. Try not to discount surgery -- my mom is refusing a knee replacement much to our dismay. My sweetie works as a physio on the orthopedic ward and the results are amazing. Keep us posted -- you just never know what we have gone through and maybe there is something out there we know of to try.
Linda -- I sure hope you start to feel better. I know when I was suffering with my back and neck problems and then bronchitis my whole lifestyle went right out the window. I must admit since basically recovering I have a renewed interest in eating and exercising (now on day 16!!!). Just to repeat what you mentioned about 61 not being old. They have just changed the laws here and 65 is no longer an obligatory retirement age. As a matter of fact my future father-in-law just retired from one university (I think he was 68) and is now working for another university. We suffer from a real lack of manpower here in BC and very very few people are retiring unless they absolutely want to.
Have a great day everyone!!!!!!!

Zoe - we crossed!!!!!! How wonderful that Marylynn's DH was able to help. You are so correct there are so many wonderful women with so much diverse knowledge we just never know when or where the next piece of important information might come to us. I just know things are going to be wonderful for you both and as I have stated I just love the attitude you are with it all.
LOL I still love the dress I found online but still looking -- I feel good but still feel so dumpy when I look at myself in my winter gear. But I guess the fact that all my cheap pants are getting so old and so worn they just look horrible. I just can't spend the money on really nice clothes - they have never been nor will it ever be a focus for me to purchase expensive clothes. I am too hard on them LOL. As I mentioned a while ago my only goal before the wedding is to be able to shop in a "normal" size store.
Hugs again to all the GOLDEN GIRLS

Hi gang . . .
Just peeking over the top of the snow drifts for a quick little hello. This is getting downright annoying. Oh well . . . as long as I've got power at least I should be able to get my Christmas wrapping done. Of course, it remains to be seen when I'll get to go out to the post office with the stuff that needs to be mailed.
Have a great afternoon, everybody . . .

Hi Meowee-Linda - don't worry. There's plenty of time for gift-wrapping. (Note: I'll still be saying that to myself at around 2:00 AM on Christmas day!
Have a great night, all!

Good Morning . . .
We are supposed to be having a litte respite from snow today -- and boy do we need it. This is my bi-weekly garbage day and unless my plow guy shows up pretty early, I'll be hanging on to it for another two weeks because there is no way I'll get anything to the road right now. At least this bitterly cold temperature will help to keep the smell down, if I have to keep it in the garage for another couple of weeks.
I've been up since 5:30. A little worried about my diabetic cat, Jazz. But, he appears to have pulled another miracle out of his stash of extra lives. He had a couple of very nasty seizures last night and was still quite 'out of it' when I finally went to bed ; poor little guy. Honestly didn't expect him to greet me this morning, but he is pretty much back to his normal self again. Not moving around too quickly, but eating and drinking and steady on his paws.
Nothing else going on around here . . . hope to finish up my Christmas wrapping -- regardless of what ZOE says -- and (if I can get the car out) make a post office trip later on this afternoon.
Have a great day, everybody . . . . . . See you all later.

Good Morning!!
Zoe, I was wondering how things were back there in Boston. I saw the news story about the explosion of the truck with all the fuel. Are you alright? The pictures looked really scarey!

Good Morning GG's:
It's a beautiful day here and it's supposed to turn colder and rain toward the weekend and snow in the mountains. Finally, some Christmas weather.
I agree with Zoe, I never knew how much all of you would come to mean to me when I began posting on 3FC. It's so nice to know people really care. All of you ladies are terrific and I'm honored to know you.
Linda: So sorry to hear about Jazz. I hope he feels better soon. It's hard on us when our 'babies' are ill.
An uplifting video for your enjoyment:

Afraid my exuberance over Miracle Kitty this morning was a bit premature. Jazz had a massive seizure/stroke this morning and has gone to that wonderful place where nothing will ever hurt him again.

Meowee! How perfectly rotten! I'm so sorry.
Karen, the truck that rolled over and exploded was nowhere near me. So glad, tho, that nobody was badly injured, or worse. Lots homeless, though, and the company that owns the truck has gone on record saying that they will help them relocate, etc., which is a good thing although it may not prevent lawsuits down the road.
Get better, LindaD.
Hey Jo-annie, yep we crossed. I know what you mean about clothes. I have some decent stuff for work, but my at-home stuff tends to get chosen for comfort rather than looks, and the older and saggier, the better I like it. My kids actually get annoyed with me because my jeans are so baggy, but I hate anything tight around my waist, so that's just too bad. As far as you are concerned, my dear girl, you are lovely just as you are, so any weight loss before or after the wedding is purely your choice.
Okay, back to work for this old gal...Have a great day, Golden Girlies!!!!!
